Megagurius imo is definitely one of the more underrated kaijus. Such a shame that she starred in probably the most underwhelming movie of the Millenium era.
Honestly, I don't understand the dislike of Godzilla vs Megaguirus? I thought it was a really good film both narratively, and figuratively. Plus the fact the big-G couldn't hit her due to her super sonic speed and agility was really cool. Even that parasitic screech, mixed with feral facial features, is enough to give any kid nightmares!
@@nine_tails137 Compared to other films during the time period like GMK, GXMG, and FW, it just feels like a sleeper with the whole black hole plot (not saying that part is bad, but one problem with that is that I feel like that took away most of Meg’s screentime despite literally being in the title). Not to mention this film’s timeline also probably rubs people the wrong way as despite them using the MireGoji suit, the film does not take place after G2000 but rather in an alternate reality where the 1954 Godzilla was never killed and was simply kept alive (which imo they should of made a different suit as obv people who watched G2000 before this will believe “hmm since Godzilla looks the same in this it has to be a sequel!”). It’s just overall not the most memorable as the only things most people remember from this film is Mega stabbing Godzilla in his family jewels or the infamous bodyslam scene. Tho the main female protagonist did kinda carry the human side of the film (tho I still do think Akane’s better) Imo I think this film would of been much better if it was presented more as a horror film as we should have more scenes Megagurius and the Megalunas devouring people similar to the Legions in Gamera 2.
@@GojiBoiEarth1964 Okay yeah, I can definitely see where you're coming from with that argument. I too thought this was a sequel to G2000 in terms of continuity. Although GMK was confusing to me continuity wise, only to find out that movie is stand alone. And yes, the lack of screen time for Meganulon and Meganula is a pretty big flaw IMO. As for what I remember about the film, aside from the parts you mentioned, I also remember Megaguirus' hyper frequency shattering buildings and her sadistic grin, before dropping a building on the Big-G. As well as the Big-G grabbing her abdomen with his tail, and chucking her into a building. Which was basically the Big-G saying: "Oh no! I'm not falling for that trick again!"😆 I also remember the scene of the two people getting eaten by the Meganulon. Although it went by so quickly, I barely got a good look at the creature. I also remember the Big-G fighting off the Meganula swarm, and the Meganula giving their energy to the giant Meganulon before dying, and the adult Megaguirus slowly emerging from the carcass(or whatever the shell piece is called?). @@nine_tails137 For me the film is underwhelming but the fight between godzilla and megaguirus is one of the best in the franchise and definitely gets overlooked. It's a prime example of how godzilla can go from fighting casually to fighting more tactically very quickly
@@Kaiju-bm4ts Yes the fight between Godzilla and Megaguirus is one of the best fights in the series. She would definitely be an annoying enemy to fight, due to how fast and hard to hit she is. As for story, I really liked the character development with Kiriko wanting to avenge her commanding officer. As well as the idea of defeating the Big-G with an artificial black hole. Which I always thought was Japan remembering the chaos caused by the monster form of the Oxygen Destroyer, so they tried thinking of an alternate option. Even though, like you said, there's no continuity in this film from G2000.
You know, it just occurred to me that, for a majority of the Millennium era, Godzilla was fighting versions of himself. Orga was just the Millennium Aliens mutated by Godzilla's DNA. Megaguirus was mutated by his DNA as well, hence her reptilian appearance. And Kiryu is quite literally him fighting his predecessor, considering that Kiryu runs on the basis of the OG Godzilla's skeleton. Mothra is just Mothra, of course, and GMK/Final Wars are obviously their own thing, but still.
Heisei had even more, Biollante: Created using Godzilla's cells. King Ghidorah/Mecha King Ghidorah: was mutated in place of Godzilla due to time travel shenanigans. Mechagodzilla: Made from Mecha King G's parts, and built in Godzilla's image. Moguera: Made from Mechagodzilla. Space Godzilla: Born from Godzilla Cells carried into space. Destoroyah: Mutated by the weapon that killed Gojira 1954, then mutated into perfect form using Godzilla Jr's DNA.
I mean the heisei era wasn't all that better I mean there was biollante who was a human plant Godzilla hybrid then there was mecha Godzilla and even space godzilla
She could make a good villain for a Rodan solo film. Maybe for the MV. Megaguirus should have her own symbiotic predation relationship with Rodan (It’s hinted that the Rodan’s are her natural predator in the original Rodan film. I’d love if that got explored). Megaguirus lay their eggs on or near Rodan nests, using the Rodan’s heat to nurture their eggs, many Meganulon are born per one Rodan egg. In turn many of the hatchlings are consumed by the Rodan infant when it hatches while a few escape and grow. Likewise it can be why adult Rodan will specifically hunt adult Megaguirus for food and why Megaguirus will look for Rodan nests for reproduction.
Here’s a pitch for such a movie, The Meganulon are a new species that Monarch has discovered near the volcano that Rodan was found in King of the Monsters. when the giant insects start eating the village crops, and grow into Meganula, they swarm the area like locusts, which attracts the attention of Rodan, as they are their the native predator to the colony. After driving Rodan off from causing any more damage, Monarch realizes this fact and decides to use this to their advantage, locating the “hive” of these creatures, to lure them out into some place far from any people in the area, and letting the big fire turkey finish the job. This plan actually works but with added side effect of also releasing the swarm’s queen, Megaguirus. They and Rodan have a fight, Rodan wins, and the day is saved.
Megaguirus is a terribly underrated kaiju and this video was a truly excellent way to showcase her and her babby bugs. Also, I'm really enjoying ZaGorudan as a presenter. Does a very good job.
Godzilla's fight with Megaguirus is unironically one of my favorite in the Millenium Series. It's always refreshing to see the Big G use a strategy he formulates to defeat an opponent instead of a power up or a super strong move.
Agreed. Also, one of my biggest motivations and favorite parts of the movie, is the music tracks: Fatal Confrontation, Godzilla vs Griffon, and the End Credits. Yeah, I know they're all variations of the same music, but it so cool! Especially the tribal drums mixed with the trumpet sounds.
From a bug who got nerfed by a baby pterodactyl in the 50s to a draconic dragonfly who challenged the King of Monsters. Man, these guys have come a long way…

You!!! This was my first Godzilla movie I watched! I should try and rewatch it!
FINALLY, I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR YEARS
I never noticed there was a pre cursor to the skull crawlers in King Kong and same with megagear never knew that’s what the original rodan was eating
About time!
Yes!
Do the Showa Godzilla as two videos, history one, and everything else in one.
I’ve been waiting for so long for this
This is a good video! Could you do Showa Gamera kaiju profile next?
I like the gags in this one. Like the cow killer and Soviet Mega
Those prehistoric kajiu dragonfly’s are more scarier than most Hollywood/anime alien kajiu and mech cadet’s sharg
Just in time for me to have finally watched Vs. Megaguirus for the first time yesterday!
Great video Wikizilla!
Thanks!
Someone had fun editing the trivia section lmao
I fought against this bug today at an arcade, this is pretty cool to experience
Can you maybe do a kaiju profile on the troll from the new troll movie from last year?
6:03 That style of puppetry reminds me of what the filmmakers of Walking with Dinosaurs, Beasts, and Monsters used during filmmaking.
I’m very happy that there are making these informative videos if you don’t wanna read through the website.
This was probably one of the earliest Godzilla movies I watched
Adorable Channel
Great Art and Branding
Good Editing
