VieViaPaVria well, Ireland went nearly bankrupt in 90s and they said in 1995 that if they were to win again, they would not host for the fourth time in a row

TCar Great songs, great winner, great staging, great predication. But the hosts I can comfortably say are the worst I have witnessed in my 16 years of watching this contest.
So many comments about "I hope X country wins next year" *insert flag here* but I just hope the best song wins and we can finally move away from certain countries voting top points for their neighbours every year.
The BBC saving everyone's ass. That's the reason why they are a Big 5 country. I'm glad this is no longer a problem for the hosting countries. Kudos to Ireland for holding on to it during the 90s, their last hosting show was very sweet.
ZeroOfficial [Eine offizielle Null] Because at the time they hadn't developed the current protocol of the winning country hosting the competing the next year.
ZeroOfficial [Eine offizielle Null] That is also true. But we know that the protocol wasn't developed yet because the 1958 contest was originally going to be hosted in the United Kingdom, when the Netherlands had won on 1957. The United Kingdom withdrew from the contest at the last minute, and so in search of another broadcaster to host, they chose the previous year's winner. The EBU liked the idea of the previous year's winner hosting the contest, and so that is what they've kept today.
I know it's ALMOST happened. However, Iceland almost winning wouldn't really be cause for much logistical challenge; not as if it would mean a lot of people would have to almost go to Iceland...
I wouldn't call it a logistical challenge. Reykjavik's international airport is already a worldwide hub and of capacity. There may be a shortage of hotels, but this can be solved using temporary accommodation in cruise ships. The only issue would be the main venue. As their national arena merely seats 5,500. But it states to have a concert capacity of 11,000, which is sufficient. I'm sure many local Icelandic companies would jump on board and help finance the event.

"The 1980 contest was the last contest that was not hosted in the country that won the year before." This already became untrue with the Netherlands hosting in 2021 since it said the *year* before. But if this is taken to mean the previous contest, it might be untrue with 2023 because nobody even knows which country will host it in 2023.
Really? nothing about thousands of pounds invested, new roads built and phone and electricity cables installed to host the contest in an equestrian centre in a village in rural Ireland in 1993?

It's lucky Ireland haven't won it recently as RTE have no money. They've had to sell part of their land off and it doesn't help that they pay some of their presenters outrageous salaries for a country with a small audience.

It's as if Russia was even in second place, and it's as if the actual second place, Australia, was not a favorite either. As if, in addition, that Ukraine was not among the top contenders of the trophy because Ukraine was. I mean, people can just generally say that Ukraine beat all the other favorites, instead of emphasizing on just one particular "non-winner" (or "loser" some people may actually pointedly say) to juxtapose with Ukraine.
