But then on the third day, his mom gave him Resident Evil 4 for his birthday. It had actually just come out that week. We immediately started taking turns playing it, and my mind was completely blown by just how insanely awesome it was. Even 15 years later, it's still in my top 5 favorite games of all time
RE4 is one of the best games ever made... original and creative, taking the risk of trying something new. Also contributing to the success was the fact that the developers really had fun doing their work (rather than worrying about pleasing the audience)...

As this guy says, the old games kept recycling the same idea and it was getting boring. It was going the way of the Megaman series where nothing ever changed. I love the old REs (except Code Veronica X), but going back and playing them, there's no comparison. RE4 is the best BY FAR! Best gameplay, best controls, scariest, most fun, and longest. RE5 and 6 lost the edge of horror and excitement by going with all action.

One of the most masterfully designed games of all time. The developers of RE4 are extremely talented and they clearly knew what they were doing. They went all out with a green light from Capcom, didn't copy other games, didn't conform to whatever the trend was at the time, didn't go into it with the mindset of screwing over the consumer, etc. It FEELS like an "all hands on deck" kind of effort and the ripples are still being felt to this day. They made exactly the kind of experience they wanted to make, perfected the base gameplay and never strayed from it, paced it to near perfection, never tried to repeat the magic of any one scenario, rarely took control away unnecessarily, made it supremely replayable, etc. It's a masterpiece.
They really had it going with this game. Innovative and intricately made... with its influence it obviously created both a positive and negative in the series, and game industry itself, but almost 15 years later I still find it to be much better than 80% of the games that have emulated it, and were directly inspired by it... so almost any third person/shooter experience since then. for those who want a more hardcore/survival experience: play this game on professional, kill/ignore the merchant, and have fun!
Resident Evil 4 was to Resident Evil 3, as Grand Theft Auto 3 was to Grand Theft Auto 2. To say that it was anything short of phenomenal would be an understatement.

Once you chose weapons, you were stuck with them. Terrible game. And 6 was just 3 shitty games sold under the RE Moniker.
KINDLE the source of our misery was Shinji leaving at Capcom's behest i.e. out went the talent. Capcom is remaking RE2, stands to reason 4 might be in the pipeline. Or make the the 360 version backward compatible with xbo. Again about Shinji, I purchased Evil Within, less all out action versus 4, however it satisfies.
It's crazy for a game that went through as many revisions as RE4 did over a development cycle as long as it had to still feel so meticulous. RE4's level design, variety and creativity in encounters, which are then tied together with the best pacing ever, are simply unmatched in my opinion.
Seeing Leon in later levels with his Jacket is such a tease. It's always been my dream to see him wear it through the entire game, sure I could just use PC mods, But I mean the legit game its self. Seeing it here makes me wonder WHY THE FUCK they removed it? It looks like a last minute detail as you can see this is the main game so they had to have taken it out late in development!
I agree. My most recent playthrough if RE4 I used mods to have his jacket on the entire time. Here's to hoping that they include an option for that in the remake!

Resident Evil 4 is my favorite game of all time. I love the settings, I love the gameplay, and I have played through the game about 8-10 times. I am still playing it.
One of the things that makes RE4 such an amazing game is the high degree of replay value. This is the only game I've beaten more than 10 times in a row, more than I can say for any other game. Fun as hell and can be beaten and replayed in just a few hours. Amazing.
Even though the only time I felt genuine fear was when dealing with the regenerators, I think this is the best survival horror game I've ever played, and the best that was ever made.
DragonStar to me it has more of a Alone in the dark 4 new nightmare vibe 1 of the best most iconic true survivor horrors of all times & also a very Silent hill vibe but of course, it is created by shinji mikami so is going to be like a spiritual successor to Resident evil series

(not to mention the development hell they just went through) Little did they know they crafted a masterpiece that went on to permanently influence third person action games forever! Absolute bravo to the team and their incredible efforts, one of my favorite games of all time.
Resident Evil 4 changed the face of the franchise. The enemies are much harder now and the environment was much expansive/ interactive. Leon and Ashley had an intense escape throughout the game. This game revolutionized the new features of both PS2 and Gamecube. Hopefully, RE5 would be a new unique adventure.
I've beaten this game about 5+ times already. It never gets old and I'm always gonna have this game in my life. Thanks to these awesome creative game developers!

I have a lot of trouble with survival horror and puzzlesolving but I beat this one rather easily and had a great time. Glad one of the best RE titles was accessible at my skill level.
