Good to see you look at more Cougar stuff. I've had good experiences with their parts. I just replaced the front 140mm white led Cougar fans I've had in my case since 2014 running 24/7. They still worked fine but one of them would have a rattle noise off and on. But mainly they're a silent model limited to 1200rpm and they couldn't keep up with my 3080ti. Also used a few of their budget cases.
Hey Jay, I almost never comment but had to inform you! At 16:15 you said "because right now you can only get interconnecting fans in RGB". That is not correct because Corsair (of all brands, one of the most rgb focused brand does make this lol) does make the "Corsair iCue Link RX120". It does use the Link hub, which is great when you use multiple Link components, (Fans are available in black and white, 120 and 140 variations.)
This was a very good video Jay! Honestly, seems like a really solid set of fans from Cougar. Very cool and impressive. Regarding non rgb fans that interconnect, I believe Thermaltake and Corsair has non rgb fans with high static pressure and airflow. You should look at those as well! But great video Jay, Nick, and Phil!
How cool it would be if the RGB did motion photos, like during Christmas you can change it to have snow, Christmas tree, etc, or for seasons like Autumn and it has leaves falling.
would actually be dope. but REALLY hard to implement and youd need WAY more LEDs. Also i guess it would only kinda work with a specific RPM. Free RPM and it working at ever 1% speed increase or decrease would be insanely hard to do
@maxzett actually the fans know where they're in the rotation offset to the extent that they can trigger the motion frame animation at the start of each turn thus creating the pov (persistence of vision) effect that I assume you guys want, however I don't think it will sell enough to be profitable, it costs a lot to creat such things at decent resolutions in such a lightweight application
Looks like the small orange spacers could be removed and replaced fairly easily by just undoing the screws that go through them, of cause it would be better if they were just the same colour as the fans to start with. If you've got a 3D printer then it would be very easy to make your own spacers too.
The RGB on those TEAM Group RAM sticks on the test bench went crazy. This has happened to me quite a few times. In fact, some time ago, this is how I burned the RGB of two MSI Z170 and one kit of the same RAM memory. It also happened to me on an Asus Z170 with G.Skill memory when the software was still Aura instead of Armory Crate, but then nothing burned.
To me the Thermaltake Swafan EX are still the best due to the ease of maintenance. They're interconnected too, but the best feature are the removable fan blades. You can also re-apply lubrication when needed. Only downside is that they're not as powerful as other high-end fans.
Personally, I'm waiting for Noctua to do some snap-on/daisychainable fans like this. No RGB, no nonsense, pure quality... That thought is so delicious.
I agree the time has come for fans to all have some simple daisy chain system. In fact I do not buys fans anymore without it, the convenience to me is worth the cost.
your note at the end to Be Quiet about NON-RGB fans, is really a thing i want, i prefer no RGB in my systems since i feel like they're just waste of electricity and i do have a Be Quiet CPU Cooler... air cooled and had NO complaint there... might be overkill though.
I really want hot pluggable Noctuas. I might be waiting a very long time, but I'm sure they'll do it eventually. People often use 40 fans in 1000D builds (my case) and wiring everything cleanly is a nightmare
I think the interlocking clips should be located outside instead of inside. Having it the way that it is have more risk than having a clip that you can just pop in/out on the edge of the fan. Also, if it's outside it'll be easier to replace if the interlocking clip is damaged at some point and it'll be easier to manufacture and sold separately as well w/ a lot of modding potential to boot since it can also be potentially 3D printed for custom color variations or even have an image or logo if you so desire. But either way this is a great start.
Yes, this should be a standard. I feel we should move to reversible fans as well. Finding white reverse direction 140mm fans for the bottom of my O11 Vision was harder than it should be.
@@FastSloth87 My point was, if they are in the bottom, how are they visible... I don't own one, so curious. I haven't seen a case where they are visible in the bottom.
Seems pretty nice for the price. I like the click and sturdy interlocking tabs. Seems like a fair amount of effort went into making sure you've got good connection. Lian-Li could learn a thing or two from Cougar on that front. (The interlocking tabs on Lian-Li's TL LCD fans are absolute garbage compared to these. You can easily disrupt the connection on those, which in itself usually isn't a problem, but becomes a real pain because it messes up connectivity with the Lian-Li software, so you end up having to physically disconnect and reconnect all connection points to "reset" stuff.)
Noctua needs to do this too back in the day fans were either really cheap and just terrible or they were Noctua and now RGB fans cost more than the high performance Noctua's which still outperform just about every fan out there in both acoustics and airflow. I for one don't see the point in spending money for RGB fans that will not cool as well as a similarly priced Noctua. But this new trend of daisy chain interconnects is amazing especially in a SFF build where you just simply don't have the space for any extra cables. Its the only thing thats had me consider anything aside from a noctua fan in over a decade which i still have some of the OG fans i bought back then in my PC right now.
Good that you mentioned the thickness, will not work as a center fan in a typical dual tower cooler. You should start covering how easy it is to remove the rgb cables. Now THAT is what fans need, those to be removable to reduce clutter if you don't use rgb.
Not to discredit these fans, but just did a build with the Lian Li TL120 and their implementation of the daisy chain tech is next level. They thought of everything, the fan modules only need one cable, then you connect the hub to PCIe and a usb header. Love mine
Jay, I'm pretty sure that those black rubber "gaskets" or "pads" that came with the fans you showed in the begging that you were not sure what they were for are going to be black replacement dampeners for the orange ones that come pre-installed on the fans. That's what it looked like to me to be the case anyway seeing how easy those corner brackets look to remove with those nice stainless bolts. I would be shocked if cougar just forced you to live with the orange but looks like they accommodate you with a set of black dampeners. Also would be very easy for anyone with a 3d printer ( like yourself ) to print out a set of dampeners for the fans in any color you could buy TPU/TPE in.
Arctic Liquid Freezer 2 AIO (non-rgb) with one cable off the AIO pump and interconnected fans would be bloody awesome. I would also loooove to see slim interconnected fans as well as that's where it makes most sense as in small form factor builds space is at a premium. Less wire clutter means less restrictions for airflow.
As someone who once used TWELVE Antec ARGB fans in a Phanteks NV7, I understand the struggle. Thank the deities for for the D30 fans...and daisy-chainable fans in general.
There are some fans that can interconnect that don't have RGB. Arctic Cooling's fans can interconnect, although not as neatly. But they come in non-RGB versions.
Hey Jay, I just stop using any 3er party software to control my RGB. I'm just controlling the RGB via Windows Dynamic Lighting. I'm the guys that I set my RGB to one color and that it, but it's working, and I'm loving it.
Oh yes, I definitely like the bequiet fans. The ARGB of the Light Wings are good and fit nicely on a radiator and the Silent Wings 4 are so quiet that I wondered if they were defec at 3000rpm (they are intact, they're just quiet)... But you have so many cables and the extra connection outputs (3 pices/cable on the light wings), it's no fun to hide the cables and connections or arrange them in such a way that the back panel doesn't pull out the ARGB plugs when you close it. Sure the focus is on the performance of the blades, motor etc., noise, but I would like to buy them with a daisy chain connection.
Jay, you’re always saying that you don’t have the tools to do these particular measurements, like for the airflow for example. Honestly, I think that you are one of the best tech RUclipsrs and are very good at explaining things. I think it’s about time you invest in some new machines, like the type of stuff Gamers Nexus or LTT have. You deserve it too. In my opinion even more than some of the others.
16:23 spot on. thanks for video i was just looking if this is possible. I have only 1 space left for fan on MB and was looking if possible triple fan. Yes it is.
Anything that can move air/fluid is NEVER boring! I find it interesting. Granted I care more on the heat transfer / fluid flow area. Not so much with the lighting. I just bought a 3 pack of Super Flower MEGACOOL 120MM fans. I am going to see if they cool my Artic LF2 360MM AIO better than the included fans. From Jay to Jay.
Great review, I went with ARCTIC F12 PWM PST (5 Pack) - 120 mm for $30 bucks. I'm using Fan control got rid of my fan controller. Running 10 fans inside the Antec C8. I would or will buy be quiet or anything (non) RGB - like this in a min.
Do these types of fans come in black on non-RGB? I want the cordless connections between them but I don't want the lights. I don't want to pay for something I will not use
What would be needed to make variable pitch blades on a PC fan? So the pitch could be adjusted as needed? 🙂🤷♂️ Might be worth revisiting the Fan Control app as it's changed a lot recently. New features! 🙂👍
Daisy-chained non-RGB fans do exist - the Lian Li UNI FAN P28 is quite a good performer (and can actually have RGB added to it if someone wanted to). And they're not even very expensive - a triple pack can be found on Amazon right now for $57.
I'm curious about the allen head screws in the corner pieces, because it seems the washer/spacer bits are removable so you can change them to match what ever you want - or leave them out entirely? Surprised you didn't even try to see what happens when you unscrew those 😊 Thanks for the review, these seem pretty neat 👌
Although the single cord connectivity is an attractive one, unless each fan has a dedicated ID chip, and a way to be detected individually, they will only be seen as one device with software like Razer Chroma. The Razer Chroma ARGB hub uses it's ports to determine the device, and LED count. This means You'll only get one effect through all 3 fans. I have my 3 front fans in 3 separate ports so I can do custom light schemes on each fan. It might be different on other, more expensive devices though. Also keep in mind that only one Razer hub is currently recognized by the system unless they've finally fixed that. We've been waiting for years to have multiples of the same devices be recognized by Synapse 3, but the last time I checked they hadn't coded for it.
Jay, mention to Cougar and all other fan manufacturers that they also need end to end connections to continue the signal thru to another set of fans. ie: Corsair Link. (they are the ONLY ones that have this)
PWM) fans do not adjust their speed by varying the voltage. Instead, they utilize a PWM signal, which rapidly switches the motor on and off to control the fan speed. This method provides precise control over the fan's performance while maintaining a constant voltage. Noise from some fans, it is likely due to a poorly designed PCB with inadequate noise suppression or filtering mechanisms.
Those orange accents seem to be rubber dampers and not just color accents. the whole corner is isloated from the frame. Could be worth pointing out if that's the case.
Jay, Lian LI has interconnected fans with no rgb LIAN LI UNI Fan P28 120 Triple Pack. Thermaltake also with the Thermaltake TOUGHFAN EX12 Pro PC Cooling Fan, Magnetic Connection, Swappable Fan Blade or 140mm
These fans are actually pretty decent priced , considering the fact regular → NON-RGB ←fans can go up to 30$ each. Not only that. It's a very clever design to have the possibility to stack the fans and only have to use 1 header port and 1 fan port to get em all to work 😁👌. I like the idea of more modular fans in the future. Meaning, less cables more connectivity 🙂. Very convenient for people that use motherboards with only 1 or 2 rgb ports like me. I just might buy these in the future to use as case fans , this tube is actually helpfull for wich i give my right thumb Up 😉👍
I recently got a new case and found out how horrible my cooking was... Im shocked nothing burnt out in the like 10 years I've had that case. Its way better now with the new case i have, 5 total fans now and it runs super silent

Also used a few of their budget cases.
Tip for the editor. Keep being the Phil. Your edits are awesome buddy.
Remember when fan companies were obsessed with nothing but performance of the fans? Pepperidge farm remembers.
Also Lian Li Uni Fan P28
and the corsair qx series
I have Corsair. It's ass.
Nice fans and good video hope to see more videos of cheap fans and cases and other things to use for ur pc
The white and orange with the raw metal screws would look great with a space/nasa themed build.
I must say, impressive fans!!!
They seem to be made of rubber, I suspect they act as noise dampening. You'd need TPU for that stuff.
There was some black rubber stamped in a sheet in the beginning, might have been for this?
@Bratfalken Nope. I thought the same, But Just looked at the manual. It shows them being used under the heads of the 4 mounting screws.
@@staples4335Vibration dampening which would lead to less noise in some cases.
@@farmeunit Obviously. But it seems pretty redundant when the corner mounts are fully dampened from the fan anyway by the orange rubbers.
@Cougar
You folks are really coming along. Nice fans. 140mm versions are desired.
your note at the end to Be Quiet about NON-RGB fans, is really a thing i want, i prefer no RGB in my systems since i feel like they're just waste of electricity and i do have a Be Quiet CPU Cooler... air cooled and had NO complaint there... might be overkill though.
I really want hot pluggable Noctuas. I might be waiting a very long time, but I'm sure they'll do it eventually. People often use 40 fans in 1000D builds (my case) and wiring everything cleanly is a nightmare
don't worry, Noctua will release some in 9 years
thermaltake already have the swafan gt and ex fans that are interlocking and no rgb
Serious question, but why does it matter if they are reversed when you can't see them? Or even if they are visible, you can't see the logo.
Much cleaner look. You see the infinity mirror (on the model I got) and no frame.@@farmeunit
@@farmeunit the fan hub with the 4 spokes coming off it looks "bad".
@@FastSloth87 My point was, if they are in the bottom, how are they visible... I don't own one, so curious. I haven't seen a case where they are visible in the bottom.
@@farmeunit literally all O11 derived cases.
Been waiting for this to be more common place for a while now. Will definitely be making sure my next build has daisy-chainable fans.
It’s gonna be pretty difficult to get me to change the Lian Li fans, they just soo sexy
Barely noticeable noise to me unless you intentionally listening to it. Great great product.
About the Linkable fans without RGB, Corsair already has the RX Link fans without RGB
Hey Jay, I just stop using any 3er party software to control my RGB. I'm just controlling the RGB via Windows Dynamic Lighting. I'm the guys that I set my RGB to one color and that it, but it's working, and I'm loving it.
Things I wish companies did are: 1) Daisy chain power and 2) Easy way to dismount fan blades to wash them or something.
I personally like the fact the RGB mimics and isn't continuous
Can you guys (or a subscriber) please link the video to the fan software? I'm not sure what it is called & can't find it in search.
It’s an okay deal, I like the side lighting
I would recommend them if someone was on an extreme budget and couldn’t spend the extra $20 for Lian Li
I have some really old Cooler Master fans that have lasted as long as some ball bearing fans, which had the "Rifle Bearing"
16:23 spot on. thanks for video i was just looking if this is possible. I have only 1 space left for fan on MB and was looking if possible triple fan. Yes it is.
That is a good catch about the rgb behavior mimicking each other instead if treating it like one large rgb.
Interconnected Noctua Redux fans would be... Amazing. Id buy 2x just to have backups lol
Lian Li P28 is a non RGB fan that connects like this...sadly only 120mm...but they do come in both black and white!
Yeah, I love the LightWings and would 100% move to a daisy-chained version next time I needed fans.
Do these types of fans come in black on non-RGB? I want the cordless connections between them but I don't want the lights. I don't want to pay for something I will not use
not by Cougar. But Lian-Li sells a non-rgb variant of their Uni Fans. Uni Fan p28.
What would be needed to make variable pitch blades on a PC fan? So the pitch could be adjusted as needed? 🙂🤷♂️ Might be worth revisiting the Fan Control app as it's changed a lot recently. New features! 🙂👍
it would expemsive i guess... but definite great idea... you'd be able to adjust the fans exactly to you setup..
Daisy-chained non-RGB fans do exist - the Lian Li UNI FAN P28 is quite a good performer (and can actually have RGB added to it if someone wanted to). And they're not even very expensive - a triple pack can be found on Amazon right now for $57.
How add rgb on it?
These do look quite nice, very.. cosy color saturation.
Thanks for the info
I loved the case, and now I know which fans to get to light it up.
There are great non rgb daisy chain fans out there. I love my Seasonic Magflow. Extremely well built, one cable, affordable and reliable
I'm curious about the allen head screws in the corner pieces, because it seems the washer/spacer bits are removable so you can change them to match what ever you want - or leave them out entirely?
Surprised you didn't even try to see what happens when you unscrew those 😊
Thanks for the review, these seem pretty neat 👌
What's the name of free fan software Jay mentioned in the video?
I love these! If designs are patented I don't think every fan company can do this though. Unless their designers can really be unique with things.
The orange doesn't bother me or the rgb being independent. That price is worth it, and I agree the non rgb with just one cable would be dope.
Nice fans, but you really should shut down all other rgb programs and run Signal RGB. It's way better and more flexible.
I like the orange spacers!
