    Very good find. I found one of those about 2 months ago. Apparently carrier must have gotten a hold of some bad sensors. I've never seen that on any other unit where the short is actually inside of the snap- disc and shorting because it's clamps onto copper. Pay attention guys. You can learn a lot from this channel. 😎👍

    Good find. I have learned in this situation if it's a bdp heat pump to always look down inside unit for wire shorted to copper. So at beginning I was thinking that from experience. Our meter always tells us the culprit.

    So I just learned something. I always thought that the defrost sensor was like a regular temp sensor that you would measure in ohms , so when the sensor reached a certain resistance value from temperature it would close and then when the board reached its time to check then it would allow the system to go into a defrost. So know I know that there is 24v going through that defrost temperature sensor.

    • @HVACGUY
      @HVACGUY  2 года назад

      On a defrost thermostat like that yes. It has to time out and get 24V on the other side of that defrost thermostat in order to go into defrost. Many newer ones use a sensor though.

    • @sknight0391
      @sknight0391 2 года назад +1

      Old style defrost like this one is "Time & Temp." With one single sensor that opens and closes. The newer style defrost is "Demand Defrost" with two thermistors, one sensing outdoor temperature and the other sensing coil temperature. And those sensors are measured with ohms resistance and compared to a ohm resistance/ temperature chart for proper readings. 😎👍

    I am confused about one thing. You pulled the thermostat off the wall and then jumped it to the float switch. How did that make it blow the fuse if the float switch had nothing to do with where the short was at which was the unit outside?
