    I’ve been in the HVAC business for 25 years and the thing that scares me the most , the thing I never ever ever do is roof penetrations.

    Curtis, have one of your buddies who does roofing to come out and redo that flue collar. It will leak the way it is. Needs to be redone. Should have those top 3 rows of shingles removed around the flashing so that it sits level with the row that's on the bottom of the flashing. Then put the shingles back in place all the way to the hips on the top. It will need sealed around the outside on top and bottom with some sort of mastic as it's probably too cold for silicone to cure.

      We didn't see the finished product to make that call. I don't like that roofing silicone, you can buy the roofing tar in the caulk gun tube. The shingles on the sides should go over the flashing too, bottom, nah. He may be ok like it was, that is a pretty big flashing.

    Curtis I have to give you a little constructive criticism. I love the videos but...... I've installed a lot of those furnaces. They're designed to go in between the framing of an existing wall. They measure 14 and 1/2 inches. Your 16 in center is really 17 and a 1/2. Your framing was off. Shouldn't have that gap in the studs. A better way of installing it would be to pick an outside wall and cut the drywall out in between two studs. The furnace would of slipped in there beautifully. No need to add framing. Then they make a 90 degree vent termination kit that exits through the wall instead of going through the roof. Just make sure there's no outlet or electric behind the wall. Still a fan. Lol

    Nice project there Curtis. Someone else comes in to purty it up, it will be the best looking thing in the house. What gets me is how there is 0 insulation. Those things put out the heat though, I didn't think they made them anymore. I figured that they go into the wall itself, but when you climbed up, I could see why you did it that way. Great Job

    I needed to reroof my house in Wy, and I waited a little longer in the fall; I finished late in October and my hands were almost raw meat due to the cold and rough shingles. Roofers in the north really are hardy folks.

    To me a gravity furnace was one of those old coal octopus furnaces with a gas conversion. They had huge ducts and wall registers. Great heat. Sucked gas.
    I suppose any gas burner without a fan is gravity. Thanks. Liked.

    Electric bill with no insulation in that attic with the summers you get down there must be stupid high . A few hundred bucks in pink insulation would be worth every penny

    • @jthonn
      @jthonn 3 часа назад +1

      Indeed, and heating with that oven like that will do a number to that electric bill, plus ruin the oven. They do make some nice electric heaters for heating, where you don't have to go through all of that. If I were the slum lord, it would have been electric and the water heater too.

    Good job bro! I hope you bubble checked all your gas connections prior to firing that bad boy up. I used to install those Williams wall gas furnaces a couple of decades ago and an old timer drilled into my head before my 1st install to never leave a job without checking fittings with some kind of gas leak bubble solution. He shared that he learned the hard way and had a minor fire breakout. I enjoy all of your videos so keep them coming. Happy New Year!

    Curtis you better get a roofer to redo that job correctly, you're going to have some major leaks that will cost u a lots of money for damage the wind is going to blow rain & debris under the flashing and ice will build up under flashing from flute pipe heat, also why such a big hole in the ceiling? Maybe you should watch some roofing videos or just get a roofing contractor to do job, is going to be cheaper in the long run, this is not 1 of your better installs.
