    小時候學英語, 只要不確定是Plural, 一律當成single處理便成

    which不能放限定子句真是前所未聞,原來是地域性差別啊。不過想來也挺合理的,這樣口說的時候才不會語意不清。

In the case of: Half of the [noun], the verb agrees with the noun, i.e. if it's a singular noun, use "is"; if it's a plural noun, use "are"
Example: Half of the apple is rotten. Half of the apples are red and half are green.
Similarly, None of [xxx], the verb agrees with the [xxx].
Example: None of this is true. (a book title, as a matter of fact)
None of the students are attending the assembly.

    还有一个所有中英字典和华人英语教师都译错的单词:interesting!
    这个词不能译成“有趣的”,而是“引人注意、令人关注的”,是个中性词,既可形容负面词(比如灾难),也可形容正面词。
    2008年女影星Sharon stone用这个词形容她对汶川地震的感受时,引发中国人民愤怒声讨,骂她幸灾乐祸。
    上个月川普用这个词形容洛杉矶火灾,并没有引发美国人举国骂他幸灾乐祸。

Either, Neither: the verb agrees with the second subject.
Example: Either you or I am going to do the dishes.
