      Well my friend, I’ve bought the Omega Seamaster the ( James Bond) automatic, blue Bezel, in 2001. It’s been through the wringer with me, in tool times and luxury times. It keeps perfect time, very well made, and does everything the Rolex sub does, just without the price tag. But loved by and known through the world as an exceptional time piece. I’ll never part with it and will hand it down to one of my boys. But if you want a change in color and are seeking another piece, I would highly recommend this one, if you’re looking for variety. Can’t go wrong with a Seamaster, great video, and good luck in your work and endeavors. Cheers Matt

    Speaking generally, I think that you should wear a watch that is dialed in and specific to your style, personality, and lifestyle, not necessarily focus on what’s classic. The Submariner may be timeless and classic, but if it doesn’t actually suit you as a person, you’ll just end up looking like the people who wear Rolex just to say they wear Rolex.
    My .02 cents, if I had your kind of lifestyle, I’d go for the Explorer II, black or polar dial, instead of the dressier submariner. 👍

    • @cheynewalls
      @cheynewalls  3 месяца назад

      I agree, wear what suits you. Now I do think the Rolex Explorer II suits me a bit better, I do have to say tho, my Submariner it the perfect fit for when I'm going back and forth between ocean diving and black tie affluence events. The polar dial Explorer II could work for this, but the Submariner just feels custom build for these exact occasions.

    Boring is, as boring does... Glad you saw light in the end! For me, only Speedmaster and Explorer (1) get close to the breadth of use and stylistic versatility of the Submariner. Which is why they form the core of my collection. All of them can go from their specialist use (diving, performance timing and outdoors respectively) to a great restaurant, gallery or concert without change. I truly value that, because that's what I like to do and I think watches should reflect you and your values, not what randos say in bars or the herd witters online.

    "Every other person has one."

    I live in one of the most affluent parts of South Florida and can assure you that 50% of the people aren't wearing Submariners. Don't confuse iconic and famous for being run of the mill.
    The stainless Submariner is the epitome of a luxury sports watch. The iconic design is classy and extremely versatile. By the way, when the stainless bezel on your Expoler 2 is trashed, the Submariner will look good as new. I'm fortunate enough to have other high-end watches in my collection, but I can absolutely tell you there is no other watch that is as versatile as the Submariner. I can take it boating, go to the shooting range, or wear it on an evening out with a sports coat, and it rocks. The Submariner embodies what quiet luxury is about. Dude, why worry about envious Rolex haters, say anyway? Haters are gonna hate. If you can only have a one watch collection, you'd be hard pressed to find a better choice. I truly enjoy sharing thoughts with other watch aficionados.

      @@cheynewalls Thats the "functionality" if your diving legibility is everything (the lumed bezel as well). If he means its the "king of deskdivers". I can agree with that. But i think he really meant "diving", so no, a good one, but "the King" is stretching it. IMO. In the Early days most watches were small, so the (functional dive watch size being a bit larger was revolutionary for the industry). Afterwards the dive watch has evolved with the sport/job. Rolex didnt evolve with it. Nowadays all true divewatches have a larger size because its just better if your actually diving. The sub has become more of an "all purpose watch" than a king diver imo.
      And "all purpose" means your good at everything, but not the best at anything. Nothing wrong with that either. Being well known does not factor in the equation for me, there are "perfect products" that few people know about. That does not make them less good, just as popularity not making anything better than it is.

    I think I have the similar feeling of being misunderstood by people wearing my rolexes. For me, when I am going on to social meetings, I wear something that I feel comfortable being seen with. Like you said, you can wear a sub wto a luxury setup, but that mindset is looking for an allround watch. If you can change your mindset for a watch to something similar to what you would wear for clothing, then you can excuse yourself for searching for another watch that you feel would express yourself well besides a rolex. If you wearing a jacket to those social meetings, think of wearing something that won't give the too wrong of an impression to the average joe. If you insist on wearing the sub everywhere, think of why you wear a jacket or a suit to that occasion and not wear a suit or a jacket when your working creatively out in the woods/mountains. Once this mindset kicks in, and you find that sociable luxury watch, you might start considering the 43mm seadweller, or the very wearable deepsea d-blue. The sub is not boring, but probably the most versatile watch ever. But once you know, you might start to think you want more than one decent jacket or a suit, and start collecting for specific usages.

    Your real world view on the Rolex is total, thank you. I, as a ROLEX owner since 1988, (was just a late teen when I got my first), know for one thing...a watch like ROLEX is not boring..that is the subjectively objective mind...especially where TOOL watches as such are concerned. It is exactly this conversation piece that we love to talk about because ROLEX stayed with the basic idea: functional, devoid of unnecessary ornamentation, the way it transmits legible and aesthetic urgency of purpose to the eyes of the viewer! Purity of minimalism and purpose, built just as the 70s Adverts in TIME & NEWSWEEK depicted...SUBMARINER is not planet ocean - those have no provenance because they are trying to follow trends, Rolex does not do that.....Design DNA is legendary, and as such, any redesign attempt must be approached cautiously with utter delicacy down to even the way the graphics and the font style is used and positioned. Once there is the movement at all, the most important aspect is the LOOKS...aesthetics, if it were not so, OMEGA would have had another story. OYSTER CASE true to purpose!

But both perform within the same parameters on my timegrapher (so tie). The FF has 3 barrels with a longer power reserve (point FF). Resistance to magnetisme none have a metal balance spring, so both are antimagnetic for normal use (if you work with very strong magnets you should get the milgaus anyway) So another tie for me. The FF is way more expensive, but no waitinglist (so both get a point here). Servicing i had Rolex wanting to replace more than i want/need on some occasions driving up the price as well (so it might be cheaper in some occasions but other not so much). Intervals (point Rolex).Now for easthetics, the FF is BIG (i mean big!)but it flies more under the radar because of its look its a dive watch pur sang, it dispite of its pricing does not come of as a piece of jewelry to the untrained eye (so "saver" to travel with) point FF. Open caseback (need i say more?) point FF.
      Better resale value, might be. But i tend to keep my watches anyway. So thats not a factor i include im not an investor and i dont buy bulk (i always said:with 5 im done withe the "game"😉, so choose wisely)
      Dont get me wrong i really like both watches, but you cant overlook the fact the "bagage" and "hype" that comes with one of them, making it easy to overlook the quality of other Brands just to be part of it. I also l;ove my Seamaster Seaweed which keeps great time and also does not attract as much unwanted attention due to the colour i guess. But Omega gives you great quality for less of a buck. You can get creative if you want a Rolex Submariner. You can get the no date version. You can get a neo-vintage. You can get a different color. You can get a Sea-Dweller. They all look (somewhat) the same, and yet they're all different.
    My grail watch is the 116600 40mm Ceramic Sea-Dweller. It's a Submariner Date without the cyclops and 4x the depth rating.

      @cheynewalls hey, man, thanks for your reply. In short, emphatically, yes, I do. They milked the cow dry for me with that one. I had just bought a brand new 3861, my grail, it was beautiful 😍. But then the moonswatch. I was ashamed of my speedy, it felt cheap and dirty. Still took me a couple of years to move on, but in reality, it was never staying. Rolex would never do something like that, a plastic homage.
