To propagate, take the cuttings/stems you are trimming off and just put them in a container of water. In a couple weeks you’ll see roots popping out. When the roots get some length to they, pot them. Very easy.
I’m new to Pennsylvania. Just found you today on RUclips. Your awesome. Thanks for doing your video’s I just bought my first mums today. But have learning to garden here in PA for a year. I figured I would learn to garden here cause it’s moist in the air a lot and rain comes randomly.
Wish I had found your channel last year. I planted my mum in the ground late last year and wasn’t aware I was even supposed to prune them much less 3 times before July 4th. It did happen to get pruned once thanks the help of my puppy who chewed part of it off. Lol It came back a little fuller but started flowering in April. I left it alone but later learned I should have pinched those buds off before they bloomed. To my surprise even though I didn’t pinch them off in April they are still blooming now in November.
I winter mine in a unheated greenhouse the icy wind causes branch die back. They all still bloomed thu the winter but not as heavy as when i first got them. I found out the original soil was root bound and didn't get much water right to the trunk. So i changed the soil to akadama and aquarium gravel, perlite, crushed red lava rock, and pine bark all equal parts. There now thriving much better.
Just came from your previous mums video - thank you for also doing a follow up! I love your energy btw. This is my first year living in a house with a yard & porch, so I bought mums to decorate but I want to see if I can get them to last for next year. This will be my first time gardening :) Thank you for all your tips!
I do not subscribe to many channels , but you are so funny and you get right to the point and don't babble like some of these women do. I don't have time for all that babbling. I did subscribe to your channel. Hope you have a great day!
Thanks so much for knowing a ton, sharing it and being so fun to watch! I’ll never forget when I realized that most ‘mums are perennials, and I was like, “Wait, what?!” That was the last time I threw a ‘mum out, but my care routine has been basically watering, and over the years they’ve gotten scraggly. I kept reading about pinching, but your time-lapse demonstration convinced me - OK OK, I’ll pinch! By the way, I’m sitting here staring at ‘mums that are blooming in late May - I read somewhere that you can let them, sheer them back and they should return in fall. Guess I’m gonna find out!
I'm not paid by them, but Sluggo Plus gets rid of pill bugs and it's organic. Lovely video, thanks you for taking your time to show what happens when less pruning too.
Thank you for your video. I just got 2 mums today from the 50% off table. They are a bigger containers with 3 colors in them. I'm definitely going to try to overwinter them. They are in full bloom now so hope you keep posting so I can follow along. I'm always going to have to make something to put them in near my vegetable garden. Love your truthfulness and energy. Also going to go back to the clearance rack for more and try to propergate some.
I planted my chrysanthemums in soil/dirt in the ground. I did not pull them up or anything during the summer. I cut them back I deadhead them, etc. I even fertilize them. My question is now I dug them up and transplanted them into another yard. They look really good so far. When shall I fertilize them, it’s just March. We’re going into summer really fast here in North Carolina. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing this my first time it's early spring in Virginia and my mum s that I planted in the ground came back beautiful and I want to keep them that way so I don't have to buy any in the fall so thanks for the information.
Thank you! I’m in Texas. It’s my first year with them and it seems I am not going to be able to make it to beautiful bloom this fall. I did have pretty blooms in the spring and will keep trying for next year though
Thank you so much for sharing. I live in Queens, New York, and I'm starting to Chrysanthemums this spring. My plants will arrive in early April. What happens if you don't over winter? I read that Chrysanthemums can be winter hardy for zone 6, what would happen if I leave them outside in containers in my zone 7 environment?
It's a 50/50 chance of the plant coming back if not overwintered up in NY. The winter can be very harsh to the plant roots. In zone 7 just a very heavy mulch around the plant base should help keep it warmed up for winter. U can even use a cold frame or a simple plastic covering for a lil added protection but zone 7 is def better than 6 and below
When I was bought the mums it does look good and then when they die and regrow they do look ugly and I never like no more. Maybe I will it another try. Trim, trim…. Thank you for sharing.
Hi! I just discovered you channel! I have ADHD as well, and I felt so related with you ! I own a little mum plant, but unfortunately, I repotted it in a bigger pot, and still, it thrived. Not as beautiful as I would have expected, but it’s giving me flowers from time to time. My problem is that here in Mexico, we don’t have the classical four seasons, I have lavenders and my mums blooming in winter! And my question is, how do I know or recognize the dormancy period ? Aaaaand about pruning, mine is kinda leggy… if I start pruning, can I have mine become short and bushy ? Thanks for your videos !!
Welcome! Ha! I just germinated Lavender seeds cuz its winter right now here. It's still super warm where you're at right? Dormancy happens only in winter. What's your coldest times of the year? The shortened daylight hours is what signals the flowers to bloom. When my plants start to go go dormant the plant looks like it's dying. Pruning your plant will def help the plant bush out. Ya got to keep cutting it. Cut one stem and it turns into 2 stems etc keep pruning until it widens out. Try to do this earlier b4 your fall period so the plant has time to produce flower.
Pruning is not necessary. If you manage to keep it alive all winter then next summer you'll get Really BIG bouquet style flowers. Assimilating it's natural habitat is the best thing to do.
Depends on your zone. I'm in zone 6a/b border n have to start pruning early as I can to have enough time to keep bushing out. I cut at least a few times(3 minimum) so they need time to bounce back n grow

Omg! Me too Jessica! This is my second season planting flowers. It's a lot to learn lol. 😅 but I'm enjoying it thus far. I loved this video.
Thank you, for this video. I am going to use this information to help me take care of the ones I already have.

Thank you! I'm Alaskan and I always see "you pick mums" signs by farms and I always thought "Yupik mums" and to this day I still giggle at that
That's an awesome name! 😆

Hello from Tucson AZ
You are awesome!❤😊
Thank you! I’m in Texas. It’s my first year with them and it seems I am not going to be able to make it to beautiful bloom this fall. I did have pretty blooms in the spring and will keep trying for next year though
It's OK we try again with the next mums!🌻
I have Roly poly’s everywhere. I still can’t decide if they are good or bad. They eat some plants but they also make good aeration pockets in my soil.

Great info and straight forward and true!
Thank you
What do you do for those rolly pollys (don't know how to spell it). I have them bad.
When I was bought the mums it does look good and then when they die and regrow they do look ugly and I never like no more. Maybe I will it another try. Trim, trim…. Thank you for sharing.
Happened to me too! Yes try again next time. Call it an experiment 😁
I love thé examples
I have those same bugs which i think are killing my mums. What do you do in this case?
How often should I water them if keeping them in a pot at the porch?
