When I started wish I would of found a channel like this 4 years ago. Sometimes when you are just starting you feel overwhelmed with all the languages and frameworks, but if you know the trifecta Html, css, javascript thats all you really need, and jquery is the icing on the cake.

scrolling through the list of JR Front-end developer i can definitely say it's not enough to learn basics Html, css and JS. Lots of requirements are needed - Git,PHP, tons of different frameworks, Angular/React, Node, etc. Imho this is too much for JR position, the only hope right now we, beginners, have is an employer adequacy who can give you a chance.

They're fronting. Alot of companies bloat up the job requirements meanwhile you'll only need 1/3 of what they've written. Just apply!!!

Hey I wrote Chris this question...maybe you can provide some clarity also? I know it isnt addressed to you but any help you can provide, I would really appreciate. Thank you in advance for your time :-)
Hey Chris, thanks so much for this video. Question for you... I have been learning how to code on FCC and Code Academy, I'm going to check out Treehouse since you mentioned it. Anyways, I have been learning since january of this yr 2017. And when I started building my portfolio I keep coming across tutorials that use tags and other code that I have never heard of at all, and of course I proceed to learn about it. But my point is, ALL of these things I've never heard of keep popping up... So how can one ever be 'ready' for a job??? You said you learned html and css... did you learn ALL of it?? Or just enough to build a basic website?? Please provide some clarity if you can. Because I feel like with so much to learn and new things popping up daily, how can I as an aspiring developer ever be ready for a job...?

This truly made my day and my life. I was kicked out of college for low grades and have been working at jobs I don't enjoy. I keep telling myself and others that I wanna be a web developer I just need to go to school and learn, but 1. I can't go cause it's expensive and 2. I don't know where to start. Now that I see this I wanna do it. I'm so broke sleeping in my car as I'm writing this and I have been wanting to so badly to learn web development. My mom doesn't believe that I can do it, my friends think I can't do it cause they just don't think I can do it but I do believe that I can. So thank you for this video.

Direct to the point. I'm still looking for jobs right now, but this certainly helped me to become inspired to continue applying for jobs.
It is very discouraging when you start looking at job descriptions and they have so many requirements that you just become overwhelmed because you only cover atleast 1/8 of the coding language that they require you to have.
Certainly, this lifted my spirit to continue applying for a development job especially now that I feel like giving up.

This was very inspirational for me as I'm now learning how to code so I can switch careers. For me, I've been mainly going with Skillcrush (Front End Developer Blueprint) and supplementing with FreeCodeCamp and other free sources to fill in any knowledge gaps or clear up anything I may be confused about. I really enjoy Skillcrush and like the idea that you can build a site for a non-profit with FreeCodeCamp, so I hope by the time I'm done, I'll at least have HTML, CSS, Responsive Web, Javascript, jQuery, Git/GitHub under my belt before applying for a job. I'd like to also learn WordPress and back end languages at some point in the future, too. There is just so much to learn and since I'm in serious need of a job, I've been trying to learn quickly, but wasn't sure exactly how much would be enough to get my foot in the door. I just subscribed and I look forward to future vids!

Wow I’m so glad I saw this video. I’ve just now learned the basics for html and css and have started coding my first website. But I am pretty much studying everyday for at least 3 hours and I’m super motivated to get into the industry ASAP. Seeing videos like this really makes it less scary and makes me feel so capable. It’s hard when you approach a completely new subject, and feel insecure because you just don’t know what you don’t know. Thank you for this video, I’m feeling inspired 🙏🏼

I just Subbed! Just turned 23, and have been feeling so lost since high school. I have become so depressed working these simple jobs with their repetitive tasks. Life has felt so meaningless as a consequence of this, what I deem to be, pointless work. I have finally decided to take the plunge and started to learn html on CodeAcademy.com I had no idea what to expect but I am absolutely in love with programming. Knowing the possibilities behind knowing how to develop code has inspired me greatly, I have a fresh new perspective! Thank you for sharing your story with us, it is deeply inspiring and has me feeling super optimistic. Like you, I have told friends and family my plans and no one really believes in me. So it is very nice to hear from someone who experienced the same feedback and persevered! Power to you!

Chris when you say all you need to do is to be able to make a basic website. Could you please tell someone like me in detail? How would you describe what you mean when you say a basic web site? Because I understand the basic of HTML now. I understand the basics of CSS, but I still have a hard time putting imagines at the center of the page. Or I still have a hard time centering the tag. I don't know flex box yet. But I do understand how to create the basic lay out using divs. How to assign tags by using the id or class from HTML to CSS. So, I think I have the basics down. How would you describe having basics skills? Also, I do understand the fundamentals of JavaScript, like loops, conditionals, variables, operators, but I am weak at control flow, functions and I am decent at objects. I just don't know a framework yet; I haven't started my learning on a framework because I don't feel ready yet. So, when should I begin applying for jobs? From what I have told you already, am I ready or should I continue for another 3 months or so and learn a framework then apply? thank you for readying my message and sorry for the very long rant.

This is very encouraging. I just spent a month learning JS and the past week learning jQuery (not done yet) and I already know HTML and CSS.

I feel more relieved after watching your videos, because I'm currently learning FEWD through thinkful.com and it's way more expensive than treehouse which I wish I would have just gone with that route, but with thinkful I have a personal mentor to help me as well as live Q&A sessions to ask questions when i'm not meeting with my mentor. I learned HTML and CSS for 2 months and felt that I was okay but then moving into JS and jquery, I struggle with it and I still struggle now. Because I took a 2 month break to finish up my Bachelor's degree and hoping back into it after a break, I'm struggling to remember what I've learned and I started feeling like being a web developer isn't for me. But thank you for sharing this with me, it means a lot that I know that someone has also struggled as well and made it so I know I can do it too. I just have to put in the work.

Hi Chris! Very good video! I am learning from freeCodeCamp, Lynda, codecademy, is quiet slowly, sometimes I feel down because is not easy. I had only one interview and didn't go too well as I was not confident, maybe next time :)

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I have been so scared to apply because I don’t feel confident I know enough based on job descriptions. I finished my Masters in Information Systems Management with programming focus in June of 2016 and I am still at my same old accounting job. I let fear stop me from applying. I just didn’t feel like I knew enough because job descriptions often say proficient on practically everything and I move on. You’ve now given me confidence to start applying cause your living proof. I’m doing treehouse now to build my skills and in a couple of months, I’ll be much more confident. How many interviews did you go on before you got a job?

Hey bro. Super grateful for your videos man. Subscribed and been catching up on your path. Awesome 👏🏽
    Congrats on the success!
    Question,
In this video you mentioned that as you apply for jobs the requirements will say languages you don’t know but you should apply anyway… How do you handle that question when presented?” Do you simply say that you’re not familial with it, or do you bend the truth a bit and say something like you are slightly familiar with it??
I’m currently learning CSS and am considering a 9 month part time boot camp and I’m excited!
Thanks again for videos, info, and advice.

Great video. I mostly like how slowly, and calmly you speak. It’s very honest, positive and straightforward. I have a question for you. I have a few schools that charge anywhere between 9-15k for a full stack web developer. Do you think that the average person can teach themselves the basic programming languages for example through let’s see treehouse without having to spend thousands of dollars going to a tech school?

Thanks in Advance for your time Chris :-)

wow..I am more than comfortable with HTML and CSS and understand JavaScript and jQuery and yet for some reason I don't get a courage to apply for a job because of all these information out there about all the new Frameworks and techniques that makes you feel like you know nothing even though you know more than what an average junior developer knows... good luck to you in future and hopefully I get a job soon

    Hi, I have a question.
You said to start applying for a job once you know enough to create a website. But, what if you DO get hired, and you quit your current job for that opportunity, only to start working there and have them realize you're not qualified and fire you?
That's what I'm scared of. Sure, you can apply because you have nothing to lose, but what happens if you DO get lucky and they DO hire you, but you aren't actually ready? You then have something to lose, because you are quitting your job to accept this opportunity.
So, you say once you can create a website, but I don't think that's enough skills to ACTUALLY be a web developer. So on the off-chance you actually do get hired, there's still a very real possibility that you don't know enough to do the job and you'll get fired. Then you'll be left jobless.

yeah, don't listen to people saying you can't.
because of global market crash after i graduated high school as electrical technician i could only get a job as waiter.
i last year i enrolled in college, few months ago i've started learning web design. only handful of my friends that are programmers had positive feedback, everybody else thought it's bad idea. after semester finals i got myself job interview.
i even think i will continue doing web after finishing college, i'm studying for civil engineer
