I just graduated university with my degree in CIS. I was considering studying and pursuing to become a software developer, but you made it so clear to me that I should start at Database Developer. I have exposure to SQL and Tableau from prior classes, so I'm excited to pursue this career path. Here's to the next 3 months of studying like hell 🎉 Thank you!!
This video has provided an almost a perfect roadmap for me to becoming a software developer. I'm an accounting graduate just like you. I wish I saw this video two years ago. It's been 6 years since I left college. I love teaching style, thank you.
I know I'm PMS-ing but this video made me cry. I have put 6-8 hours a day for months now into learning Python (just strictly Python as a language) from zero CS background and I feel completely unemployable and lacking so many skills I see listed on job postings. This video made me realize I am simply learning the wrong thing to START with. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
A lot of these skills carry over to each other. SQL is different than traditional C programming languages. But Python will definitely help you learn how to think the right way.
@@Ms452123 This is true. I did 6-8 hours of studying for an IT cert. By the end of it, I was having severe panic attacks. I did achieve my certification, but I likely would never do that again unless I was starving and needed to get certified for more money.
i love your voice. you're not yelling or acting crazy. calm and voice is soothing. Makes me want to pay attention even more. :) Also you get to the point. not like other videos where they go on babbling and divert people away from the content. - Keep up the great work, we need more people like you on RUclips :D
Thanks man, I am 20 years old right now, turning 21 this year. And since I have a entrepreneur degree I am still looking my ways into the IT and development. Since I am not really a school type person I started learning at home, doing some courses and watching vids on youtube and I really start to learn more about it. I hope I can get a career out of this since I am not planning on doing another study for 4 years. Thanks for you're advice man.
Hi Imtiaz, same thing happened to me as well :), I have graduated Accounting & Finance but from 4 years by now I'm working as a software developer, best decision I ever made. Your courses are the best. Thank you for everything. :)
rlukinn I use Google all the time for more depth into specific aspects of programming. Plus experimenting to see what happens is sometimes the fastest way.
rlukinn if these courses went into those kind of details viewers would get too bored to go on. these courses are meant to provide a structure to begin exploring. every project worth anything will have things to research and learn about. actually, even those projects worth nothing will... not knowing and having to find an answer is part of learning.
A coworker got her Accounting degree at night school. The jobs in the accounting dept(large company) paid less then the current job she already had, so she never applied. :(
Hi Imtiaz, thank you so much for the absolutely brilliant advice I got from you from this video 3 years ago and now I am working as a software engineer-salesforce. Thank you so much you changed my life.

Oh man! I was looking for this perfect video for the last few days. I finally decided to where I start my career in IT. Thank you so much brother Imtiaz.
A year later and I'm very thankful I watched this video when I did because since then I have developed employable skills and the grit to keep going. Thanks for your advice, Imtiaz. You opened doors for me. Anyone who is wondering about his course - take it. It's inexpensive, comprehensive, and will help you on your journey.

Thus, my motivation to learn software development, so I can write our own software. Good advice, thx. MD in Internal Medicine here, grinding to learn programming, just started with javascripts, dream is work as freelancer in European Union, I live in Germany.
Good video. My advice to people that are just starting or don’t have technical backgrounds is to build things and not just read and memorize stuff. That will not work in this field. You can’t just read a book on programming you must program often and create things. Build an application through the entire stack, everyone has an idea for an application just build it. Pick one scripting language, pick a framework, pick a database and get started.

It's an awesome video, and the points are completely relevant. But living in Africa, Nigeria specifically, the tech climate here is a little different. Employers don't want and would likely not give a job to someone who knows only a subset of the general work most developers they have already do. They want someone who can build a feature from the database right on to the client side button that needs to be clicked. So I had to learn Java, SQL, HTML and CSS before (GWT let me avoid going in too deep) before I started my first coding job. Later on I added Python and JavaScript to my toolbelt. It's really great advice, but sometimes it doesn't fit perfectly into the tech climate in some geographical locations.
@@jackjohnstone7841 right now it isn't. And it's not at all easy getting out. Sometimes I wish it came down to just my skills, then I'd get a shot at leaving. But the name Nigeria scares the rest of the world. It's like a label we can't seem to take off. But we do what it takes to survive, even if what it takes is learning a bunch of languages and frameworks to earn a living.
I’ll be graduating in a few months and my concentration is in CIS - Database Management, but I’ve learned JavaScript and really enjoy it so I’m considering front end development. This video is so helpful. Thank you! Subscribed.
I was a Linux Engineer for some 5 years. One day the company needed a Ticketing System, so I wrote one over the weekend in PHP/MySQL and presented it to the Directors. They liked the demo, and basically said "OK, you're now a Software Developer, please create these projects as well" and I've sort of been a Developer since (now an x++ Developer).
@@samimahmed3822 It's used exclusively on the Dynamics suite of applications. Imagine, if you will, C# but with SQL integrated. So, you can write SQL selects straight into your C# code, and store the output in a variable, and then play with that output using C#. It's actually a fun language.
I don't understand about the people who dislike such great vlogs which actually someone gives us a favor. Unless some cultures thumbs down means they like it :()
I have my Bach in Computer science already but being a person that’s a jack of all trades I’m finally considering getting back into my major and breaking down what exactly i want to do i graduated 3 years ago so i need a big mind refresher on data bases etc i wouldn’t mind branching off into doing front end web development
0:25 or what if you were smart and never went to college. I’ll tell you how to become a developer very simply. Go to some meetups and find a friend/mentor. Then take advantage of the billion resources online (for free). Ask you mentor to help you figure out things as you progress, and when you’re ready, start building things. Then get a job/intern.whatever position - just get your foot in the door and that’s it. Don’t let anyone ever tell you you need a degree to be a developer. The end.
Obviously u dont need a degree to be a dev just like how u can be homeschooled for ur K-12 education. It aint rocket science, college provides you a FRAMEWORK while you can do the same and spend more time trying to find the right tutorials and lessons from 10000+ sources out there

Omg, finally i found a nice explanation. I went through the same path. Currently working as senior software developer. I would like to expand and go global. Now is the right time.
Working on LAMP stack using WordPress as foundation. I've built my own frameworks in the past but these are expensive to maintain. I have to say it was kaos all these years. Because of limited technology understanding of others.
As someone who is a developer, I honestly think someone can start with HTML as well. Its easy , its fun and you will be able to use your imagination with the code and see it in real time.
I am interested in being a GIS/geospatial tech expert. I took one course already and would like to know how I can quickly ramp up with the right technical skills to get in the door quickly in this area. Thanks! Great video!
Start learning one thing and master it. Then learn other things if time, money and circumstances let you do it. I wish you good luck and be consistent. You will learn anything and you can do anything.

I’m so confused on what to do, I was looking at doing the network+ but then I’ve seen this video of yours, I’m an English teacher by profession and have a BA and MA in education. From London, 33 and want to change profession. I’ve read here and there how the market is changing for someone coming into to IT, do you still stand by the database route? Thank you in advance
Mate, I don't think you should focus on databases only, I am a web developer and I can tell you, if you learn HTML+CSS and a JS Library such as React / Angular etc, you can go really far! Starting salaries for those roles in London are between £40K - £50K if not more. And if you like me want to make extra money, you can always take on side jobs, charge for a basic site around £1.5K and create the site within a month after working hours or weekends ;)
*I stumbled upon your video after realizing I have to explore other opportunities and educate myself before I commit to one of these expensive coding bootcamps costing upwards of $25k. Glad I did*
@@hemaselva3894 If you have the motivation, then of course it's possible. You should enjoy programming, because it's gonna take a huge part of your life if you go that direction. With the world on the brink of an economical depression, now is the best time to learn especially since tech sector has the best chance of surviving. Learn the basic stuff first, I would recommend reading a book or watching tutorials on react (javascript, typescript), and maybe Java/Scala, Python, C++. Great perk if you can master Git as well, which will also take some time. Most important thing is to start as soon as possible with actual programming, just create a repo on Github and make a simple app in react to get yourself started. It's very tough in the beginning, but eventually your workflow will be smooth.

I just graduated university with my degree in CIS. I was considering studying and pursuing to become a software developer, but you made it so clear to me that I should start at Database Developer.
I have exposure to SQL and Tableau from prior classes, so I'm excited to pursue this career path. Here's to the next 3 months of studying like hell 🎉
Thank you!!
He looks so much like a gym trainer rather than a software engineer lol
Lol
😂
same i was wondering
Dude he sounds like Mark Ruffallo
That's what he really is.
Yeah data analysis using python is as high paying as software development
A lot of these skills carry over to each other. SQL is different than traditional C programming languages. But Python will definitely help you learn how to think the right way.
Thank you so much for the info and encouragement!
6-8 HOURS, that sounds excessive. 3-4 hours of solid focused learning will be higher yield in my experience. 6-8 hours is medical school levels.
@@Ms452123 This is true. I did 6-8 hours of studying for an IT cert. By the end of it, I was having severe panic attacks. I did achieve my certification, but I likely would never do that again unless I was starving and needed to get certified for more money.
Thank you so much. I just get started with "C" language. The foot in the door. Good luck everyone
it passed a year now_ where did you arrive_ have you learned the c langauage__

Hi Imtiaz, same thing happened to me as well :), I have graduated Accounting & Finance but from 4 years by now I'm working as a software developer, best decision I ever made. Your courses are the best. Thank you for everything. :)
rlukinn I use Google all the time for more depth into specific aspects of programming. Plus experimenting to see what happens is sometimes the fastest way.
rlukinn
if these courses went into those kind of details viewers would get too bored to go on. these courses are meant to provide a structure to begin exploring. every project worth anything will have things to research and learn about. actually, even those projects worth nothing will... not knowing and having to find an answer is part of learning.
Kevin Parsley Also the most interesting way to learn is pick something personally fun or fascinating + SIMPLE to you as a project. 👍
Me too. Accounting industry sucks.
A coworker got her Accounting degree at night school. The jobs in the accounting dept(large company) paid less then the current job she already had, so she never applied. :(

I'm a CPA with 30 years experience on that side of it. I tell my friends (truthfully), that I'm a 10th degree black belt in accounting. The problem is our current software provider for our Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (aka CAFR) is significantly raising their prices.

How difficult would it be to move from Nigeria? I can't imagine it being very fun living there.
