I am going to do this now. Cuz I have lost my job at my restaurant due to COVID-19 crisis.
Jasper Lim same. When my job closed down( i work as an auto tech entry level), i started to rethink my career path and started to think about jobs where i can work from home in case anything happens
I am so sorry to hear that! But you are doing so good looking into using this time efficiently! I quit my job to dedicate my days to a career change and maybe this is your chance!
Same here! This is an awakening for me!
Is there anything specifically I could make a video about to make this time a bit easier for you all? I plan to make one soon about Interviewing tips and how to get your first developing job with no experience.
Jasper me too I’ve been in the restaurant industry for 14 years.. never really thought how unstable the industry is
I am a single mother who wanted a good job for my son. I was tired of the min. wage jobs I was getting. I started learning code last week and I love it. I am learning myself by free online courses. I'm so greatful to find something I care about and after my son goes to bed I want to sit down and code for hours. I hope this helps me land a good job finally
Hi Kim, hope you are doing well. Can you share those links for the courses?

How's it going
@@CeeTee469 it's going good I can do a website, product landing page I use codepen for the coding tests and I'm on free code camp for learning I really enjoy it and I do it at night while my son sleeps I take notes and am on learning JavaScript now a bit harder but if you motivated you can do it.
@@sandracorte8652 I used free code camp and codepen for the projects. Iike both programs
I'm a computer science student and I chose this major because I love to learn to code. I learned Java and C so far in college, but I did not enjoy it at all. However, when I joined Codecademy pro, I'm loving every step of the way with web development. Codecademy is way better than my professors at the University.
I feel the same way!!!
I’m currently using Codeacademy, and I love the structure! I haven’t taken any other boot camps, so I have nothing to compare it to. However, it seems very beginner friendly so far.
Also in university and planning to join codeacademy when I finish.
Love my sister in law! Extremely proud and happy for you!

I did the same! 3 month bootcamp coding every day, 2 months unemployed then I finally got a job as a junior. Still out of my depth but if you love it it will all work out dedication is key! Well done :) x
Thank you for sharing your testimony! It definitely is not easy, but definitely is possible!
Go girl!!! I’ll be there soon with you. So happy for you ❤️
How many hours did you put into coding a day? I really don't have the luxury of quitting my job (I help my stepdad with roofing company) but I also want to learn as effective and efficient as possible. As of now, I am coding 5-7 hours daily..
@@bamxuberant Actually, coding that long isn't so bad if you take breaks. Keep it up 🤜🤛

Technology is accelerating at an exceptional rate, why shouldn't our learning? You joke, but it might just happen!
2040 how become red coder in 1 minute lolz. These videos man. Isolation and trasaction processing alone takes months to properly grasp. Lets not even get into operating systems kernels, threads, locks, semaphore etc. Dude, maybe I'm dumb as fuck. I speak Portuguese. This is how I commenced mastering Computer languages.
First . I start with:
1. HTML and CSS
2. Python
3. JavaScript
4. PHP
5. Perl
6. Java
7. C#
In addition, everything is going excellent ... I went to public college and I had hard time to learn coding . When I took a year off. I mastered coding on my own. I decided to go back to college and graduated in 2018. At the moment , I major in Computer science with a double minors in Economics and French at public university in Canada.
Additionally , I contain a few certifications( A +( Hardware and Software), Network +( TCP/IP), Cisco, Security+ , MCSE, MCSD, MCSA, and SQL Server 2016)
In short, practice , practice and practice.

Wow, that's amazing! I'm a teacher thinking of leaving the profession because of the lack of respect and pay for teachers. I love what I do, but it doesn't pay enough to have a family.
Data science concepts, I subscribed to your channel. Could you take about your transition from non CS background to machine learning? I'd be really helpful and inspiring for me.
I don't think any video has spoken to me the way this did. I kept saying "MEEEEEE" in my head for EVERYTHING from missing a semi-colon, to giving up because nothing is working, and most importantly losing interest because I could't see how things connect in a real situation. Very inspirational. I'm currently learning backend development and it's kicking my butt. Thank you for the encouragement and keep up the good work!!
Hi!! Have you had any improvement with backend?
Currently going through the web dev program from Codecademy on the first section of JavaScript. I went to a coding boot camp and 2019 and took about 9 months off after struggling to find a job in the field. This video helped me get back on the horse and I’m 8 days in on #100Daysofcode!

Hey there! Do you have an update? Are you working as a software developer now? I also left a career in healthcare to learn programming
Beautiful Face and beautiful Brain.
Will like to learn more from you...
Are u a full stack web developer or front end web developer. What are the front end technologies u learnt . If u learnt back end too.. What are the technologies.
I am a front end developer, I definitely want to do fullstack soon. I learned HTML, CSS/Bootstrap, JavaScript/JQuery, Node.js and SQL/MySQL basics.
I love this video! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I’m still in college and want to get a job in tech so this was very encouraging. Also, it’s amazing seeing other women and minorities in tech!!! You’ve now just become one of my role models ❤️✨
This means so much to me!! 😍😍💜💜
Hey Kim!, wow what a great story! im in the same situation currently, i quit my job because i completely lost passion for it, and recently decided that I want to become a Software Engineer/ Web Developer (not sure if they are the same thing...shows my level of knowledge on the subject lol) but I wanted to know if you think i should take Codeacademy right away....or if there was material i should read before! thank you for the great content, its nice to be a new subscriber and look forward to more content!
I would recommend to get more background information on the jobs and tech scene in general. See what the different between Software Engineer/Web Developer is and look over job descriptions to see if you feel one type of job would be better for you and then you can focus on learning those things that employers are looking for. Best of luck!
Well this video came into my feed in an interesting time. I just quit my job (after 10 years) and ditched my apartment to live like a... well student I guess, and sacrificing pretty much everything to get into coding, with codecademy as my main course for all the basics I need for front end developing :) There is no turning back now, all or nothing. here we go. Your video did calm me a bit though, feels good to know it's doable.
I am so excited for your journey, please promise you'll keep me updated! I am more frequently on instagram. If you have that, follow me @Kimcomplete_
How’s it going now Jonathan? I also left my career of 10+ years and took a semester of programming now hopped on codecademy pro a month ago and finished html, css, and JavaScript! Now almost done with intermediate JavaScript then onto command line, Git, and then to finish the full stack developer course!
@@ToddsDiscGolf Well, all things considered, its going well at the moment. I’m starting to get a good grasp of javascript and all it’s concepts. I have played around a lot with github, node.js, and some API calls. I’m doing the front end path on CodeCademy and it’s fun!
With that said, there has also been moments where I feel like maybe this is not for me, then I solve the problem and feel empowered again :p I’ve learnt that if I just break down the problems and solve one line at the time, it works out in the end :)
@@KimComplete Well, I just finished my first month as a front-end developer 😁 It was the second job I applied for, and somehow I ended up developing mobile applications in react native. But it's fun and I'm learning so much everyday right now! I also already made my first major f---up relating to a big release :)
So basically I ended up only doing about 60% of the course on codecademy, then I started solving "real" problems from mock assignments my developer friend gave me. And I think that really boosted my debugging and developing skills to get me ready for the real world. Anyways I made it! And thanks for giving me inspiration through the darker times 😊 I have learned that I'm not alone thinking maybe this isn't for me, maybe I'm just not smart enough etc. Perseverance is key.
Btw, if anyone is wondering, the learning process took about 6,5 months before I felt ready to apply for jobs. Well actually I didn't feel ready, but I felt I couldn't really learn any more effectively without actually working with it .
I must also say that codecademy really taught me really good lessons, aside from coding. Like using git, branching, coding conventions, how to think when solving problems and other stuff that would really stall you otherwise when you start working in a team of other coders.
I just started a web dev course on Udemy 1mth ago. It is definitely an immersive occupation. Loving it!
I learn coding, now im in javascript and I know that minimal i need for udnerstanding 1year hard working, realy hard, everyday after job I learning, and she say 3 month, lol, so joke.
Pls guys dont beliave everything what is on yotube. And many this youtube coders they lost, because can U inmage how they can have time for create vidio on yooutube and even that working on IT? lol, of course no, who working for IT, he havnt time for stupid youtube channel.
So everything about how coding fast, how I learn in 3-6 month coding its bullshit.
One important thing, I was learn in 3month basic of english, in 6month I was know speaking with ppl, and in 9month I speak fluently english, even with gramar mistake but I do. Now in corona time I migrate to Austria, apsolutly diferent language, and U know what? I learn in 4 month basic germany, and now I know speak germany, but of course many mistake, but I try and I do. But code language is absolutly diferent.
For coding I know i need 1 year for java script, in html and CSS it was for my easly 3 month and I can create web, what in similar way look good. But even that I must still learning. PPl dont be ships and dont fallow btch yt.
If you paid attention to my videos, I said I didn't need JavaScript for my beginner level JUNIOR developer job. I got an easy job at first but continued to work hard to move up in IT. But everyone deserves to be encouraged to get that first foot in the door because the fear alone stops most people before they begin.
I wish everyone would stop perpetuating the narrative that once you get into I.T., you have no time for anything else in your life. I work a normal 9-5 and have hobbies and interests outside of I.T.
But then again, I'm one of those rare people who only worry about what goes on in their own life, no one else's. So, I understand that you can’t relate 😢🤷🏽♀️
This is very inspiring... i have recently developed strong interest in coding simply because i wish i could setup a website for my photography side hustle.

Glad it helped! I noticed a discouraging comment above and I just want to say that a professor of mine in College literally told me that same exact thing and told me I would hate being a programmer because I would never have a life. That was SO FALSE. If I had listened to his terrible experience, I would have never began my journey. I work a typical 8-10 hour day and then I come home to my family. The only reason I don't do much more studying outside of work is because I have 2 kids and I put them first always. But it is VERY possible!!!!!!
Thank you KimComplete for your encouragement.

The codecademy pro sounds really cool. Currently I'm doing only the free introductions to HTML, CSS and JavaScript, but as soon as I'll be able to afford the pro version, I'm gonna do that cos I'm really loving it so far. I've thought about choosing a different career path than what my field is for a while now but the whole covid situation made me really think aboutthe fact that I want a job that I could do from home, or that I wouldn't lose so easily.

Yes, Adrian Java Script, Python and SQL. Everything, then you represent the whole package.
Adrian Balasa Adrian-ai inceput vreun curs? Sau esti deja vechi in acest domeniu?
Cantari Crestine Sunt nou in domeniu, am inceput sa studiez de 2 luni insa nu aloc un anumit numar de ore in fiecare zi. Sunt zile in care pot invata 2-3 ore, sunt zile in care nu invat deloc, pentru ca si lucrez (domeniu diferit). Tu esti deja in domeniu? Ai inceput sa practici?

Thank You. I really needed to see this. I worked as a network administrator for eight years that i truly enjoyed, but knew that i wanted to break off into my own path. I've been back and forth with coding aspects of Java, Python, CSS....and like you, i found myself not as driven as i first set out to be. So coding has always been something i knew i ultimately was going to venture into but i just couldn't put my finger on which type of coding i wanted to do. Watching this video of your journey to accomplishing your goal through CodeCademy sparked that drive that i needed to start this journey. And this time...I will finish the journey!! Again, thank you!

Love your story. Hoping I could make it too. Love from Philippines :)
i wish i could've got a job after my course. I also left my job to work on doing a 12 week programme in cloud computing but the only problem is that i struggled with jobs and interview my program offered and i honestly feel like being a devops engineer isn't for me (as more of a creative individual). I now just started a front-end and I hope to get a career out of it
Edit: also it didnt help that COVID-19 and lockdown happened right after i finished my course so its become even harder to find a job
I understand that it is rough but I would encourage you to look at these setbacks as tests of your perseverance and resilience. Both are needed to manifest your dreams and your hard work will pay off in the end. Best of luck! Stay strong! 💜

This seems to me like a CodeCademy commercial. Trashing Treehouse in order to praise other website, and right from the start story is directed to buy pro membership, the reason is there is tons of these so called self tought devs. I will tell you to anyone out there who really wants to learn, learning HTML and CSS is easy, after if you want to take webdev route, and after that take Javascript, prepare yourself to work just in that language for about a year, then consider to take some of the frameworks. Javascript will kick you in the guts. Don't believe in this scams. It's for the reason that we are paid that much money. Somebody give you a job in Javascript after you learn everything in 3 months, LOL !!!! With all due respect lady, spare me !!!!
Hmm, not sure what video you watched. Treehouse just didn't work for me, that was my personal experience. I mentioned in the title what platform I would be going in depth about, full transparency. I got a Jr Level position that didn't require much. Since then, I have learned JavaScript on the job over the years. I never said you become an expert in 3 months. But I did get a Junior Level job, and this is how.

Web developer bootcamp by Angela Yu
How did you manage to get a job with no experience? I’ve been struggling for a year since my entire professional background is in another field. I list my personal web development experience first, but they don’t seem to care because none of that experience is professional. Not to mention that all the “junior” positions out there require 2+ years experience smh
It is not easy, I get it. I got my degree in 2012 and didn't get my first tech job until 2017 so I feel your pain. It's hard to break into the tech scene but there are always beginner positions opening up. You just have to keep searching and keep applying as rough as it may be. Best of luck!
KimComplete Thank you so much. I’m glad I’m not the only one struggling. Your videos are excellent btw. Keep up the great work 👍👍
Right know it's been weeks since i started to learn javascript and go back to html and css and review some stuff but suddenly i felt like i want to give up i don't know what happened to me. But i know to my self that i must continue to learn no matter what happened (by the way i'm a 1st year college student and ,as much as possible i want to learn things about web dev.)
Cute girl. With that being said. Love the real honesty and the links included with what you used for video. Thnx
Glad it was helpful! Thanks!
I love this video. Which is the exact class you took on Codecademy? Is it beginner friendly?
Super proud of you!
Jay Perrine Thank you!!

i ahve time to seat 3 months at home i can do this. :D COVID19
It is a bittersweet time but that's a great attitude you have. Using this time to learn a new skill is a great way to stay distracted and may help you stay sane and happy. Good luck!
What path did you take with Codecademy? I see it has a Web Development Course or you can just learn different languages. What did you do?
This is really inspiring and full of knowledge....
Thank you! I tried to be thorough 😊
@@KimComplete yes you did....And one more thing i wanna ask you....I am going through the same kind of problem as you did......last week i quit my job of sales profile..as a fresher.....to be a developer.....though i tried to learn to code during my college days.....but it didn't go well....I kept on quitting it again and again......but now i am really serious towards it as i have no option......so could you help me out in it.....or may be suggest some tips.....so that i can be accountable.....Thanking you in advance.....
Hello Kim, How are you? How did you prioritize and manage your time to learn to be a web developer? I believe you taught yourself! How did you stay focused and committed?
Very motivational! Thank you!
No problem, I'm glad I could help! 😊
Hi Kim, I am currently going through the Codecademy Career Path course, I am putting a lot of hours co I can complete the course as soon as possible. I have a question, when you first started applying for jobs, what positions were you applying for?
Did you get a job or not yet?
@@mohammedalnamer9758 no I am currently working on my Portfolio and organizing my Github repository. But actively looking for work as well.
@@paulonivar5678 nice good luck

I understand that it can be so difficult for some. There may be nothing that you're doing wrong, sometimes things just take a while to pan out. I would say to never give up hope. I pray something comes along soon!
Try edureka it’s good
You forgot to say that "this video is sponsored by Code Academy" , lol just kidding, this is a lovely story and your progress is inspiring.. subscribed:-)
7:25 I was like, hey! don't touch your nose no matter the year you posted the video. This COVID is unpredictable!

Heya, why not have a chat with code academy, treehouse ect..- and get live links with a discount in the info and get affiliate payments!!! You deserve it!
and thanks ! great info!
Stay tuned ;)
Love your journey, and how thoughtful and well done the production of this video is also! :)
I'm glad you recognize the effort I put into this, thank you!
Amazing testimony. I suppose I will have to take a look to CodeCademy too.
Thank you again.
Hi Kim,
This is really motivated. After a long period of struggle into my life (personal and professional), I believe I finally found my career path with coding (preferably front-end/web design).
I have recently started learning and I would like a little push but haven’t find the right option for me at the moment. This video definitely help me stay motivated!
Do you really think it is possible to find a first job without lots of experience (with a few little projects as you said) ?
Also, could you explain me how to create a portfolio ? How to integrate you projects into a portfolio (when we consider your projects aren’t live website yet)
Thank you so much 😘
Thank you so much for this. I'm a single dad and been struggling to find a great paying job...coding has caught my eye cause I love tech and everything about it.
Glad it was helpful!
Is codeacademy 'pro' the same as 'pro intensive'? I can find the pro version but not pro intensive.
I recommend that you watch my video: "Top 10 Questions I Get Asked" as I discuss this and other things you may be interested in.
The course title, cost, structure and features have changed since I took it in 2017. Pro and Pro Intensive are different.
Thx 👍🏾
This literally blew my mind🤯🤯....you are amazing 🙇
One question, can i also apply for remote software jobs.pls reply.
Also,if you dont mind pls share the approximate figures of your first salary (asked it just out of curiosity).
😂Also,if possible share a platform where i can mssg you (gimme your id for the same).
Yes you can apply remote, check Glassdoor.com for market salaries, and my Instagram is KimComplete
Thank you for your legitimate life story about coding
I'm watching this video coz I saw a pretty woman as a thumbnail haha I've watched lots of these but she caught my attention haha
Please, what course should I take on codecademy? I've no prior knowledge. I see full-stack Engineer, Back-end engineers, front-end engineer and a lot more. Hope you don't I ask which of them you took?
Awesome!! Thank you for this video, very helpful
We are sometimes afraid of how great we can be. I think it's time I get back to it. Thank you! 🙏🏾🙏🏾 This video came at the right time in so many ways.
You were very encouraging. I too am a student. I want to be a developer. But the income worries me. I do live in Silicon Valley but being a nurse at. $40-60 an hour makes me reticent to divide into the computer thing. FYI I'm older, much older and that also makes me reticent. What are your thoughts? Any suggestions? Thanks. Craig
I say - GO FOR IT! Anything in life worth having, is worth fighting for. Just don't quit your day job in the meantime. Learn on the side, if you're passionate enough, devote more and more time gradually.
I’d like to know what you think about codeacademy vs team treehouse now.
Do you please have a pattern for some who will like to become a Python developer? Thank you.
You can take a CS50 Intro to Computer Science course form Harvard. It's free. Then take CS50 Web development with Python and JavaScrit (It's also free). By the end of this process, you will gain skill set about Full Stack Python developer.
@@n2ab38 Those courses available on Edx. You can take it free and you only pay if you want to earn verified certificate via Edx. But if you want to earn certificate for free, you can take the course on this site www.cs50.harvard.edu/x/2020/
I'm beginning to doubt these videos.
I tell no lies. I'm an open book.
@@KimComplete what programming language(s) are you good at?
I've been trying to learn how to code since 2017 and your video has helped me a lot to get inspired because I get distracted and bored pretty easily
I am a computer science engineering student and don't know web development
And to think they still always ask for a degree over here... They're pretty hung go over degrees in Belgium.
You got a job offer. Was that as a direct result of Codeacademy or were you sending out resumes or going to events etc. sorry for the dumb question. I know you said that they do not do job placement but I want to better understand how to actually get a job and not just train train train. I am taking courses and doing projects but that isn't resulting into job offers.
Not a dumb question, I was networking and sending out resumes and then a recruiter contacted me about the position I ended up getting. I was very lucky and they only did 2 phone interviews before I got the offer.
The programs that offer job placement usually charge you wayyyyyy more in the long run.
