your boss isn't just an awesome boss, he's also a great human being. he gives people a chance based on their potential, not age or education. i'm hoping to find an employer who thinks the same.
I'm 59 and started development professionally at 35, this was a very relatable interview. My manager resigned last month so I assumed her role too. However, it's right in the middle of pen testing and NIST certification with the company. Time management has never been more paramount than today. For every year I've been in dev, I've read article after article about people worrying if being 30, 40, or more is to old.. Pfff... Having the right "WHY" and hunger to learn, I think removes the over the hill argument in most situations.
Coming from a person that is learning code now and is sometimes feeling self-doubt. I wanna say thank you for posting this because is something I needed to see, and this video probably is motivating me more now, that I have a shot in this career.
That is exactly what I felt man, hope. I really love development, and I stopped for 6 months because I needed an income fast. This weekend, I decided to do I little coding every day to get back in the game. So I went back to see my favorite web development youtube channels, and I find this video. it was refreshing to find honest answers and tips to land my first web dev job.
As a 33 man starting with web development (for now) I find this video very touching and hopeful. It gives me strength to keep going without giving up, and when the time comes I'll get the job I'm hoping for.
I want to work for your boss one day, the level of compassion and understanding he possesses is so great to see, I'm currently stuck in what you use to experience in your pass life, dead end job. I've always had and more so now than ever especially after watching your videos to learn how to code. Your videos are truly inspiring, Thank You. Btw, i currently live in Cypress, CA. not too far where you use to live Buena Park.
This is like one of the best interview on programming in the world. It contains all the syntax and semantics of programming success. Very inspiring, very positive, very encouraging. Great boss you've got there.
Dude awesome video! Thank you for putting this out. I’n in my early 30’s learning to code and super encouraging to hear it’s not too late. Sometimes it feels overwhelming but I’m enjoying putting in the work. Your videos are super helpful to keep motivated. Thanks again man.
Keep going dude.I started learning to develop web applications when i was 38,two years ago.Don’t waste too much time just going through tutorials(“Hello world” types),learn by building something functional. Python/Django was the easiest for me to learn.
What a reasonable dude is your boss. Very likeable. The fact that, when looking for a potential employee, he's looking for someone that will be 'happy' in the role and with the team is really interesting. It's almost as if we all need to do a personality inventory before applying for jobs, because if we aren't a good fit it might end up being an unhappy situation. I think your boss really understands what things can get in the way of productivity (workplace interpersonal issues etc). Great Interview.
I'm 36 years old. I have a small business and I hate it. Last year when the pandemic was raging I decided to go back to school. Finished my 1st year with a 3.8GPA, doing FT school while also managing a FT, struggling business. This whole summer I've been learning Vue, Node/Express, and a bit of React, and I can't figure out why I didn't start sooner. This video speaks to me so much ;) Thank you.
I'm 49 and I am so grateful for this video. I went to a tech conference in late 2019 and I was told that I would never get a job because they only hire "fresh, new faces" out of college. Yeah, it was demoralizing. I taught myself how to customize Squarespace. And now I'm on learning AWS but I am self teaching myself how to code Javascript. Thank you.
Man I hope I can find a boss like that eventually! A friend introduced me to coding recently, after he watched me sit around for hours just messing with different mods for skyrim. He told me I should look in to front end development since I like to tinker. I've been hooked from that day. I've been making 15 bucks an hour for the past 2 years as an e-commerce tech and I have 3 kids. For the first time ever I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Videos like this help keep me engaged and motivated because I'm used to getting shit on at every turn. Thanks for the boost and keep up the great content man!
At 32 years old I too am making the change to dev , almost like I was meant to watch this video at this time. Doing web dev material all day took a break to watch some practical conversation about jobs. Thank you, congratulations on all your success
Dang! Your last question killed it man. I‘m 43 now and try to get in tech self-taught. It’s so encouraging what Jonan said about this 65 year old woman that she will get a job. I will make it. And hopefully see you at any tech con anywhere in the world where we can talk from one colleague to another. Super excited!!! Thx, Chris for your incredible motivational content! ❤

38 year old woman changing career out of customer service to IT and it is, indeed, terrifying. Lots of doubts going on. But I *want* this. The fire is there. I have shelved all excess life time sink hobbies. I have been hungry for every course and will continue to study and learn whatever I have to to make this a reality. Hearing Jonan say "She will absolutely get a job because she wants it" hit on such a deep level. Motivation kicked up a notch. Thank you year-ago Jonan.

Totally agree with what he said here - "If you're happy, then you'll be more productive..." It resonated well with me cause it's true in whatever work you're doing. Cool interview!
I am so happy to hear that its not too late for me.. I am 33 years old.. For as long as I can remember I wanted to be a developer.. I just always felt it being such a cool thing to develop and app or software out of thin air.. Now at 33 I am doing a career change from manufacturing waterproofing and being in the logistics industry to a web developer and app developer. These words "she will get a job" have given me hope.. My goals is to work from anywhere in the world for someone like Jonan.. You can see he understand life and wants the best for other people !! I admire him as a boss.. Hopefully, perhaps a future boss for me..

Chris, please tell your boss he gave a really great message for us who are trying to get into industry. Everyone who wants something he/she can make it. He is positive and down to earth person. You both are great men and thanks for the great vid.
Really inspirational. I was about to give up because I get overwhelmed with all the new tech and college doesn't make sense either. Hopefully, I make it and everyone else will too!
I work for my dads business for over 20 years now. he is retiring in 5 years. so I will have to get moving on to find a different job soon, sadly. that's why I'm here, nearly at the age 37, thinking I'm too old to learn , too late to learn coding. been married for 10 years with 2 kids, been having panic anxiety depression for 2 years. been very very sick. but I can't give up, my parents told me to not give up and learn coding so that I can feed the wife and kids. my dad is rich, but I'm the pooring guy in town, coz he pays me below minimum wage, he is my dad, and what can I do, I have nothing, no qualification or certificates , no nothing, no hope. thanks Chris for giving us hope, for making us stronger, that one day we can all become a dev, and earn some good living, rather than being homeless , and wife less.
Thanks for this man! I was wondering if I should even question why I got into this…. I was curious if I should be doubtful of myself because I’m not the best dev I know I can be yet haha!! Push in the right direction to help me build more to learn more so I can get in somewhere and grow more
I am so glad your video appeared on my recommended list. I started to learn a programming language last week and I am actually enjoying it versus when I was studying CCNA. Hearing that your boss started at 32 just made my week and now I feel more determined to put 100% effort on learning the language I chose. I am also 32 and my goal is to hopefully build my first app within 3 months and start applying by December for a developer position. Thank you and your boss for sharing this video. Hey Sir Chris! Thanks for this video! ❤
This is one of the best video you ever made 🔥I will be in web development soon in a company who hires and gives me a chance to be part of their team even though I'm new in web dev. This gives me confidence and fire to strive more! 🔥

"Welcome to Software, I am glad you're here" man that hit me

Awesome! Thank you for making this video. Very helpful
This interview is very insightful and informative . Definitely taking notes for future interviews and using this to fuel my motivation . 🙏💪
Your bosses thinking about everything is so much like mine it is almost scary. I love it. Keep up the great content.
Definitely needed to hear this stuff. Trying to move from junior to mid-level this year and I'm struggling with interviews
You got this!
man.... is this a great video for someone trying to get into web development. This guy is a awesome boss.
Bro, this video was so good and also very helpful! Thank you Chris and Jonan!
Glad you enjoyed it!
That is such a cool boss, man! You are so lucky! So happy to see you are happy with your new boss!
Thanks!
More videos like this please.
I love your boss.
What a great video. Found it way too late, but thankfully came to all the same conclusions. Very good advice for new developers.
This video was super helpful and encouraging. I've been learning since may and I needed this boost
Chris, please tell your boss he gave a really great message for us who are trying to get into industry. Everyone who wants something he/she can make it. He is positive and down to earth person. You both are great men and thanks for the great vid.
Just did :)
Really inspirational. I was about to give up because I get overwhelmed with all the new tech and college doesn't make sense either. Hopefully, I make it and everyone else will too!
That boss is a unicorn, I'm glad your in great hands
Wow. 32. This is probably the best video I have ever watched Chris. Thanks for putting this together!
You guys don’t understand how much I needed to hear your boss’s story.
Woooo!! Let me know when you do it! :)
@@RealChrisSean I saved your video on my Watch Later list. If I do land a developer position, it will be because of this video and I’ll reply back here.
@@akhrorkhamidov6405 was not able to finish studying because of personal distractions. But I am still determined to learn Swift to become a iOS developer.
Wow! One of the best bosses in the world! Great interview! I’m so sorry encouraged.
Dope video
