note to MobileTechReview, at 11:41 where you say vram is under heatsink above MXM card, well that's wrong. VRAM is always soldered around the GPU chip, so VRAM is soldered on the MXM card together with GPU. Small heatsink above is for other components that get quite hot, which is why heatsink is mounted ontop of them.

Nice one. If only it had an IPS display, I would consider it. TN is just a deal breaker, no matter what. Also Lisa, It'd be very nice if you could speak about the fan noise when you review notebooks. I'm very sensitive to noise, and that's often a real problem with some notebooks. Had to return the beautiful Spectre x360 that I bought recently because the fan would just never shut up. Infuriating! Finally, is there some hope that you might do a review on the new Asus Zenbook Pro 15-inch? Keep up the great work, I really like your channel. :)
osgrov These new TN panels honestly beat out alot of IPS panels, it's not like it used to be. Plus this MSI is probably the quitest gtx 1080 laptop you'll find except for possibly the Sager laptops. With an undervolt and upgraded thermal paste and set to quiet mode I bet you'll almost forget it's there doing light work or productivity.
At the moment only TN panels can go at these speeds of 120Hz, 144Hz and 240Hz. So you won't find any IPS panels or OLED/AMOLED panels with such speeds.
Id point out at 1052 where you (her) goes over the interals. That big open area to the right of ssd heat is the area for the sli 1070 gpus. At least for the gt73 vr -id assume it be the same the gt75.
Yeah, i noticed in a teardown video of this GT75 that when you remove heatpipes above empty space, then you will find another PCIe slot similar to first PCIe slot as current GTX 1080 is sitting in. So this laptop is for sure SLI compatible some how.
Now that you have reviewed the Alienware 17 R5 and the MSI GT75 Titan 8RG could you try to get a review unit for the ASUS G703 GI Chimera? And Maybe the Aorus X9 DT so we have all 17 inch laptops covered (They cost so much I wanna do an informed pruchase =P). Cheers!
With no options of two gtx 1080 in SLI (700+ watt power supply) and a socketed desktop CPU, sorry to tell you that it's not the most powerful laptop ever made.
I'd like a new line of portable computers that are basically a laptop minus keyboards and touchpads. Using that space to increase the performance of the unit. And just allow us to use usb keyboards and mice.
Lisa it would be cool to hear your thoughts on this GT75 vs the GT73 because they do have different designs. Also how do you think the 7700HQ will fair in the future? I'm torn between the GT75 and the GT73 (7700HQ) both have the GTX 1080.

Hmm the display metrics aren' really that good considering the contrast ration is 920:1 at 7000K and 2.0 Gamma. If you calibrate that to standards like 5K and 2.2 Gamma at say 80-100 nits that contrast ratio will probably be below 800:1 and that's close to unusable...
Hi, if you planing to give a gaming laptop to a needy so here i am needs a laptop for my IT work graphics etc. Cant buy 1 by my own... any way nice video :)
Hey lisa.....why is it these gaming laptops are still putting a spinning drive bay when i thought with windows 10 you were better off to have solid state? There must be some reason?
This is a CPU overclockable up to 4.3 ghz. How much were you able to overclock it? cooling should allow it pretty well, even a much thinner Aurus laptop handles 4.3 for all 6 cores very well.
TabalugaDragon The difference is the aorus will be in the 90c range when overclocked. This MSI is huge and thick but that means you can overclock and it'll still stay in the 80's at most, no where near throttling. Put on the max fan and you'll be in the 70's. I'm willing to bet if they have an 8950hk model with upgraded paste you'll get 4.7-4.8 GHz on all cores and STILL not thermal throttle.
TabalugaDragon I will say the new aorus lineup really has improved their thermal design, much better than before. Quite honestly I would buy the aourus over this with the thermal upgrade and undervolt if I wanted something more slim.
It never said it looked like a mecahnical keyboard, but it has similar tech towards mecahnical keyboard. So when you type on it, you will hear and feel the feeling from a mechanical keyboard.
I found someone selling this laptop with the following specs : 8th gen core i9 CPU 8 cores 16 threads, a GTX 1080 GPU, 32 Gb of RAM and 2Tb of SSD storage for approximately 1800 dollars. Is it a good deal?
In the future, hipster gamers will ironically use these laptops...dear god they're ugly. Was really hoping MSI was kicking the red with their last stealth model.
How is the power brick? I it single or dual? And as someone who've always carried plenty of books on backpack. Even collage massive books 2-3 and a laptop every day. Yeah, I could throw that in my backpack and I'm not 1/3 of Arnold XD If I could afford such thing. That would be great for me.
You forgot to mention that this model brings 2 220w power brick now, just like the GT83 with dual GTX 1080. The I7 model only had 1 330w brick, but this model with the I9 has the pair of bricks. For me thats a deal breaker in relation to the I7 GT75.
wrong, GT75 comes in multiple versions, the one in video comes with x1 330W power brick for i7-8750H, only the core i9 version comes with dual brick of 2x.230W.
@@tseyksuli4541 thanks for clarifying that. Though im curious with the i9 variant if it can work with just one PSU operating at economical mode sort of thing.
This type of system should not have a trackpad in the first place it's clunky to use so it being a bad one is like kind of just it forcing you to use a mouse which is going to be way better anyway
JoUxY YoUsEf I’m checking their website almost everyday. MSI is extremely reliable, planning to get my third. I hope they release a 3rd Gen GT75 with the same specs but even more cooling, if that’s possible.
Keith the mobo, and the chassis size to decide what mobo it can fit. this actually has 4 slots (max of 16g per stick) where normal laptops have 2, some (ultrabooks mostly) only 1 soldered stick
I prefer my 2017 razer blade pro with gtx 1080. It’s slick and thin. Not embarrassing in corporate situations. Bringing this msi laptop in corporate meetings will get you the lol looks.
But like she said that’s not really the intended use case, it’s for people who want a full fledged desktop replacement that’s semi portable not “slick and thin” laptop.
Not sure why you would buy a gaming laptop for a work environment in the first place LOL...however they're all going to be like that, all the gaming laptops seem to have some pretty weird looking designs...but then again the gamers are pretty weird to begin with so these ugly laptops fit right in with them.
William Todd if you look at the gigabyte aero 15 or a new Razer blade stealth it'll fit fine in a meeting and with upgraded paste and undervolt it won't thermal throttle.
justin beamon throttles like crazy? Is that a fact? Or you heard it from somewhere and stated it like a fact. It throttles, how much? A little. I don’t believe in smt processing anyway. I usually disabled the hyperthreading, which helped the thermal.
@@dududadadede96 Absolutely. Mine is the Alienware 17R4 with a 6820HK Skylake processor , GTX 1070, 1tb hdd + 256gb SSD, 16gigs RAM, UHD display My laptop was 1st Gen Alienware 17 R4, back when the thermal throttling issues were rampant, but I took some steps to prevent any of that from happening to my lappy. 1st I undervolted my laptops CPU, and 2 I place my laptop on my cooling pad whenever I game to ensure adequate airflow. I've also overclocked my CPU and GPU, but my CPU temps NEVER go higher than 83 degrees (averages around 70), and my GPU never goes higher than 71 celcius (do keep in mind that's during GPU hungry games like Witcher 3 on ultra 1440p). Nowadays, the new Alienware laptops are produced with a MUCH BETTER cooling solution which, for the most part, has eliminated most of the overthrottling issues. Do keep in mind though that should u look to get the 1080 GTX with the overclocked core i9, ur laptop WILL get VERY HOT (it's due to the nature of the core i9). I'd recommend getting the 1070/1080 with the 8650HQ processor instead
Varun Vesuvala thank you very much for the reply. Must be a real pain to have to deal with the first gen issues. I was looking to get the i9 but many have still complained of throttling even after undervolting. I’ll definitely go for the 1080 with the 8750hq, as I’ve had one too many laptops die in fewer than 2 years due to my high demanding rendering and CAD. Thermal repasting doesn’t seem to solve much after the cpu is fried. Again thanks, you helped narrow my search drastically.
I don’t see the point in getting a huge laptop like this with a GTX 1080 without a 1440p or 4K display. It’s complete overkill and no point being as big as it is. I’ll just save the $1000 and get a ge73vr with a full GTX 1070 and the 1080p display or an aorus x7 v8 super thin and light with a GTX 1080 also and a 144hz 1080p display.
actually, it will take another year for mobile chip variants to come out, especially the higher end cards. This is why I don't see the problem in buying one, the gtx 1080oc in dragon center with i7 at 4.4mhz oc will last you years upon years at 1080p. Right now you can hook up a 2k display and play any game at 100fps or more, so this thing will be perfectly fine at 1080p. God forbid you lower some settings and you can get right back up on 2k gaming with the latest games. People are so afraid of lowering a setting or two, while the return on investment for fps is enormous.
robob221 who told you that? last time it took 2 years for the new series to come out, also all rumors talk about the end of summer-begginign of fall this year. Why the heck would they delay the mobile variants so much if last time they came out almost at the same time?? where did you get that info? "People are so afraid of lowering a setting or two, while the return on investment for fps is enormous." I am not one of those people, however, I would rather buy a laptop with gtx 1170 with the same price and performance as gtx 1080 but much thinner and lighter due to less heat, or would get something like 1180 if I don't care about mobility for 2 years more of future proofness.
@@TabalugaDragon Robob221 has a point, all the new RTX gpus are overpriced and only crazy people would purchase these, even linustechtips said you should stay with a GTX1080 since GTX 1080 will hold for many more years. Since there is no games out there that requires a RTX 2080 yet as it's minimum gpu.
@@tseyksuli4541 look at the date that comment was posted, I had no idea the 2000 series cards would be such a fail for laptops. The RTX 2060 is decent though, almost on part with 1070 but with lower power consumption

And as someone who've always carried plenty of books on backpack. Even collage massive books 2-3 and a laptop every day. Yeah, I could throw that in my backpack and I'm not 1/3 of Arnold XD If I could afford such thing. That would be great for me.
Single 330 watt with the Core i7 and GTX 1080. It weighs 3 lbs.
Holly sh..! Lisa reply to me >.< I love you Lisa! And thanks!
Do Acer Predator Helios 300 and 500
Is it the most expensive one by msi?🤔
Can it play cs 1.6
Ouch! 17.3 inch and $2800USD but only a 120Hz screen? I think someone at MSi screwed up...
There's no place like localhost.
Haha love the t-shirt!
Hey babe this my personal computer .i have this little toy its amazing it liable great
Tacky look, but all that power on a laptop! Time to save the fuck up!
You forgot to mention that this model brings 2 220w power brick now, just like the GT83 with dual GTX 1080.
The I7 model only had 1 330w brick, but this model with the I9 has the pair of bricks. For me thats a deal breaker in relation to the I7 GT75.
so with 2 x 220w brick, does this means carrying both make it work? or one is sufficient but on power saving mode sort of thing?
wrong, GT75 comes in multiple versions, the one in video comes with x1 330W power brick for i7-8750H, only the core i9 version comes with dual brick of 2x.230W.
@@ejsanjose3608 Laptop only has 1x 330W for 8th gen i7-8750H version, only Intel Core i9 version has dual brick 2x230W.
@@tseyksuli4541 thanks for clarifying that. Though im curious with the i9 variant if it can work with just one PSU operating at economical mode sort of thing.
@@ejsanjose3608 answer would be no, 1 psu brick wont give enough power to the cpu and GPU
This type of system should not have a trackpad in the first place it's clunky to use so it being a bad one is like kind of just it forcing you to use a mouse which is going to be way better anyway
Guys if I bought the 4k display one with 60hz can I change the settings display to game at 1080 with 120hz?
JoUxY YoUsEf um no. Doesn’t work that way. With 4K you’re stuck at the unbearable 60Hz.
Yes I just discovered that :(
@@dududadadede96 do u know when msi will launch a new laptop?
JoUxY YoUsEf I’m checking their website almost everyday. MSI is extremely reliable, planning to get my third. I hope they release a 3rd Gen GT75 with the same specs but even more cooling, if that’s possible.
JoUxY YoUsEf no because 60hz screen cannot become 120hz its the screen itself and not the setup
So, this system supports up to 64 GB of RAM. What is the determining factor in terms of whether the machine supports 32 or 64 GB?
Keith the mobo, and the chassis size to decide what mobo it can fit. this actually has 4 slots (max of 16g per stick) where normal laptops have 2, some (ultrabooks mostly) only 1 soldered stick
Keep in mind that you can use 2x 16GB = 32 at 2666MHz or 4x 16GB = 64GB at 2400MHz, on this MSI GT75.
I prefer my 2017 razer blade pro with gtx 1080. It’s slick and thin. Not embarrassing in corporate situations. Bringing this msi laptop in corporate meetings will get you the lol looks.
But like she said that’s not really the intended use case, it’s for people who want a full fledged desktop replacement that’s semi portable not “slick and thin” laptop.
praystation True but your Razer blade pro thermal throttles like crazy. This MSI doesn't even come close to throttling in any scenario.
Drool Worthy laptop if I ever saw one :). But I'mma stick with my Alienware 17 :)
Varun Vesuvala I’m planning to get an Alienware 17, can you please explain your specs? And if you ever suffer from thermal throttling?
@@dududadadede96 Absolutely. Mine is the Alienware 17R4 with a 6820HK Skylake processor , GTX 1070, 1tb hdd + 256gb SSD, 16gigs RAM, UHD display
My laptop was 1st Gen Alienware 17 R4, back when the thermal throttling issues were rampant, but I took some steps to prevent any of that from happening to my lappy.
I’ll just save the $1000 and get a ge73vr with a full GTX 1070 and the 1080p display or an aorus x7 v8 super thin and light with a GTX 1080 also and a 144hz 1080p display.
review thinkpad t580 pls
like it put on the battle against predator
And there isn't really a reason to buy a gtx 1080 laptop with Volta about to come out any month now.
It's probably going to be Turing the arquitecture's name
actually, it will take another year for mobile chip variants to come out, especially the higher end cards.
"People are so afraid of lowering a setting or two, while the return on investment for fps is enormous."
I am not one of those people, however, I would rather buy a laptop with gtx 1170 with the same price and performance as gtx 1080 but much thinner and lighter due to less heat, or would get something like 1180 if I don't care about mobility for 2 years more of future proofness.
Do Asus Rog703gs 8th Gen 🔴
why cant msi put in a 120hz 1440p display...omggg
Why do these things still have such a hidious display/bezels design ...
ten years from now we'll say "damn this was chunky, who would pay alot for that?"
Dell XPS 15 9570 please :D
I wish the design wasn't so "gamery" even though it's a gaming laptop--I don't mind it being huge, but even without the decal on top, it looks a little too much like a toy for my taste.
Holy shit, look at the size of that thing. It looks like the console of a star fighter lol...
just wow
Omg a monster....
lol, I am talking about the laptop mate
In Brazil, i'd have to sell my house to buy that thing.
