I know this video is 5 years old, but youtube just fed me it in it's algorythm. Just want to say I have this laptop since 2019, and it really has been a great laptop all these years. It's really survived. During 2020 I gamed apex on it for 8+ hours a day during quarantine, in 100 degree temps during a heat wave with just a little fan blowing on it to cool it down. I spilled a whole glass of water on it and it survived. Still playing apex with little issues and now diablo.

so let me get this straight we should reconsider buying this gaming laptop because its a fingerprint magnet??? and it flexes allitle bit near the power button??? i think i can live with that 🤔
ive just noticed after watching it a 3rd time .. but everytime he picked it up at one of the bottom corners, the laptop did flex like crazy :D .. i guess thats what everyone is talking about when they say the aluminium feels thin
Now, imagine there's a newer version, looks exactly the same, has a newer cpu and gpu, and doesn't flex at all... Basically they updated it and now it's near perfect imo (it does attract fingerprints but it comes with a small cloth that wipes them off easily. It does get hot but idle is around 30 c) I would extremely recommend it
I had mine since it came out two weeks before Nvidia's GTX 3000 series, it is still in peak condition, although Linus was right about the CPU throttling. The CPU cooling fan already wore its bearings down a little since just 6 months of use, but it seems to remain operational even if it sounds like a hummingbird. Technically it still runs like a jet engine without the bearings being worn down with cooler boost, but I just don't recommend using it anyways, that's how I ended up wearing the bearings in the first place. You can customize the fan speeds through the pre-installed dragon center 2, which is quite essential for easy OC. I recommend buying replacement CPU fans with the first purchase for new users just in case you plan on doing high CPU intensive activities. I also got a cooling fan to go underneath the laptop, which further helps keep the CPU fan at bay. Since there are no air intakes at the front of this laptop, it's sort of useless to get extra cooling fans that cover the entire bottom. My suggestion would be to get two high power cooling fans and replace some stock ones in a cooling stand. Another way to increase airflow would be out the back, which I found to pump out most of the heat.
@bobthecar Personal recommendations: a laptop fan from amazon, specifically IETS for like $50. It uses a single massive fan that can hit 5000 rpm, so it basically does cooler boost for you. Buy multiple stock gs65 replacement fans ahead of time, it's guaranteed to wear out every 2 years coming from personal experience. You 100% DO NOT want to cover the keyboard when doing intense clocking. I learned that even though the airflow is max out the back, the actual thermal venting by both air and conduction happens at the keyboards. You can feel the air from the spaces between the keyboards as well. I found this out the hard way just the other day when I decided to use a silicone keyboard spill protector over the keyboard while gaming, and it blue screened on me from overheating. I also recommend buying battery replacements every 5 years or so because it will naturally expand. Bonus, you can fit a couple 1tb samsung nvme in there with a 1mm icepc ssd heatsink, with just a touch of pressure. There shouldnt be any problems with this since it comes with rubber bands and that's really what's making the chasis bulk up a tiny bit. By now, the performance still haven't changed, which is probably the answer you're looking for. I also recommend replacing stock cpu thermal paste with a high performance one from the market. This should be a 1 time installation (unless you gotta change those fans), so whenever you do it, it wouldn't hurt to clean the motherboard as well.
Whether they're lemons, pineapples, corncobs, or something else, it's a big improvement over the old blue/purple flowers (which looked like bruises). Thumbs up (ahaha).
basshead You don't have to be a "fanboy" to be mad about GPP. Competition is a good thing. Nvidia is trying to create a monopoly on gaming hardware. I got a GS70 when it was the thinnest gaming notebook. Unfortunately, MSi doesn't really respond to customer service inquiries for their most expensive product at that time, and they block you on social media when you can't get someone by the more official means.
It's called GS73 for now on the Amazon page, although that will probably change. www.amazon.com/GS73-STEALTH-014-i7-8750H-Windows-Notebook/dp/B07BVK3V1F/ref=sr_1_9?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1522839984&sr=1-9&keywords=msi+GS73VR+uhd

I'm no sure if people in the comments realize what previous gen's prices were. The GL502 or the GS63 or the Alienware 15 R3 look more affordable now, but back when they initially released, the pricing was ~$1500-$2000 with worse equivalents than what's presented here. I'd argue MSI did a pretty good job for shooting first, the package IS attractive compared to what the industry has offered previously on a specs to pricepoint comparison.
I’ve got this exact model and I love it. I got it for Premier Pro video editing and it doesn’t disappoint. It’s amazingly quick handling the work. Their customer support is amazing. Right after I got it, I couldn’t get the webcam to work. I called them and they didn’t even ask for the registration or my information. It was just some guy that answered with “MSI, can I help you?” I told him the issue and he told me, “Press FN+F5”. The support was that quick and easy. It was quicker then the time it took to type out this comment. It’s the first computer that I have had no regrets purchasing (other then having to use an external optical drive). I’ve had it about 6 months with no issues and it’s still not outdated.
That intro into the sponsor section would have been perfect for IFixIt. This video is brought to you by IFixIt, while you can't fix the letter with IFixIt, there are many other things that you CAN fix with it.
so why do people want vr ready laptops? i don’t see it to be common for people to pull out a vive at the coffee shop. i would think people would much rather have the more powerful and cheaper desktop where they can have a better setup and more immersive experience. i mean maybe you just want a compact device for at home, but i’d like some input in case i’m wrong.
Yep, just like 6gb of RAM on a phone, like seriously, 3gb is plenty for Pubg, are you guys doing CAD assemblies and renders on your phone or something? I highly doubt Angry Birds needs 6gb of RAM...
I want a laptop that I can take out with me if I decide to, and then use at home as well. No point having a desktop that has to stay at home and dont get the choice, or worse, having a desktop and a laptop as well. Would only use VR at home, at the risk of knocking over other peoples drinks.
Still using mine today 08/21/22, works fine. Repasted the GPU AND CPU a week ago and get great temps. Love getting the most out of older tech, thing still plays most games at 60 fps easily. Got it in 2019 for 1200 with the Max Q, Probably still has another 2 years left for most 1080p gaming
hey, I'm planning on doing the same with mine (gs 65 stealth 8se) any advice or problems u faced? I'm also adding more ram cuz mine only came with a single 16gig stick.
@@senurasenaratne5782 just go slow and take your time, took me almost 2 hours. I got a tool kit for laptops first cus the screws are so small. Find a video on youtube that shows all the steps. I get 65 C on most games now on GPU and CPU
What GPU do you got? I just got a GS65 used with rtx2070 max. Not looking into heavy gaming, just some EU4, HoI4, CSGO, Dota, and at max some Total War three kingdoms. Not sure what to expect yet.
Quick note to anyone doing this, my laptop didn’t turn on after the upgrades. You have to plug it in and it will reboot multiple time to reconfigure itself. After the upgrade I didn’t notice any drops in temps BUT, going from a single stick of 16gb to dual sticks totalling 32gb boosted my fps on r6 siege from 80 to sustained 160
I have this laptops grandfather(at least 2 chassis models ago with 6th gen cpu and a 970m) overall it has been a pretty good laptop but the battery and power brick size leave a bit to be desired. One thing to note is that using it on your lap will produce a heat that is hotter than the surface of the sun. Basically if you want to use it as some form of desktop replacement for intensive loads, get a cooling pad and plug it into a monitor and it should do pretty good. As far as taking it to class and whatnot it does fine as well. I would for sure buy again
I have just bought the msi gf62vr 7rf for 1500 euros (i'm in Holland, so shitty prices) but i can still return the laptop and i am doubting to go for the 1060 version of the new laptop. Should i go for it? Let me know!
Great video, no complaints. Good music, camera work, audio, Linus is great, silly props that didn't overstay their welcome. This is the sorta video I come to LTT to watch. The sort where I am not in the laptop market and don't expect to be in it for a few years, but still watch this video because I like the work you guys do, and I like staying informed on tech stuff.
Was in market for new budget gaming laptop this was awesome. I am now a subscriber to your channel and like you build video cause soon to build a new desktop. Keep up the good work
Could something similar to the ROG Rig Reboot be done again. It was nice to see those who can't afford the top of the line equipment getting a chance to have high end PCs.
Depends what usage you'll have :P I just want a laptop to be sleek, lightweight, and long battery hours. Simply for being a LAPtop to carry while travel and couchsurfing. So yes... a maxbook is STILL better imho :P
Yes because some people buy computers of this price not only for gaming and the Macbook pro has a much better finish and can run Final Cut Pro. I know people with gaming laptops that mostly use premiere and casual gaming. Also. laughing out loud at your own comment is kinda weird .
MSI GS 63vr is my daily driver, I'm so hyped over this one. But, Linus, do a review on the Aero 15x and also the Rog Zephyrus M with G-sync! Maybe even a show down video. Awesome overall!
Hey there. I am in the fifth year studying architecture and I really needed a new laptop. I need a very good laptop for efficient rendering but I also need to travel in my Scooter 20 kms daily to reach and come back from my university. I really like this model. But I like Asus GL504 Scar II model too. What do you think is better? I really hope you give me a wise suggestion. :) I 'm really caught between choosing a high performance laptop and a portable laptop.
Linus can you make video about low $ gaming pc_s do to the rize of price because of gpu miners , like something that can run overwatch/fortnite in 50-60 fps low 1080p
Sapphire Destiny na na na 100% will make a lot of $ for it because other people that are not subed will watch it because everyone is looking for a low end good pc this days
SubaruImpreza i know but i dont understand what works whit what and in my countury people are dum and selling ddr4 for 5$ and seling gpu for half the price IN 2017
Please tell us that you'll be going over Dell's G series laptops when those release. You never did do the 7577, so this could be the yearly Dell video.
Hey Linus, I bought this ~ week/ week half ago on Amazon and I see there's 2 dead pixels already... Does this mean this will increase further? Show I give it back/ get an exchange? Thanks for the help!
At the price it is hope you returned/ replaced! Mines been fine but pretty let down with the overall display brightness 😕😕... I was upgrading from a 2012 macbook pro so I foolishly assumed being 6 years ahead I didn't have to worry about screen brightness. Other than that it's a beast. Just need to repaste the CPU to get the temps down to 80- 85 underload instead of 93!
Iv owned this laptop since release, it is a piece of trash, the build quality is horrible, after 3 years of use the heat has caused it to curve to the point of of not being able to close the lid fully. The battery swelled to the point the touch pad delaminated its self after 2 years of mild usage. It is now a battery less, touchpad less compact desktop with yeah a good screen. I should have bought a more durable workstation like the ThinkPad P series or dell precision, or just built a damn desktop. Thinness isn't worth it.
@@fitah47 lol no. Build a desktop if your priorities are power and gaming and you don’t absolutely need portability. If you absolutely need portability ask your self why. If you still absolutely need portability ask you self do you really need the performance. After all that of you really need both than look into professional performance laptops like the MacBooks with apple silicon or dell xps, or Lenovo stuff is decent. If you need both than I think your best option is both; a powerful desktop paired and a ultra portable laptop can be had for less than most gaming laptops worth owning.
@@TheJman5520 i have a prebuilt workstation which even if i upgrade the desktop i wont get a powerful graphics card.. and for where im from, importing desktop parts to build is quite expensive..so i was thinking to buy a powerful laptop which i can use as a desktop and connect to a monitor but also portability when i use it in public....so what laptop do you recommend if u dont mind
@@fitah47 if you can afford it and like Mac, the M1, M1 max/pro chips offer insane power > battery ratio than can’t be over looked. But for windows stuff I’d recommend older Alienware (r3 gen) if you can get a good deal. Lenovo makes some great gear and I’d highly recommend the legion series (this is what I wish I bought instead of the msi) for new stuff I’d stick to the same brands and try to get something with an amd cpu.
@@TheJman5520 i saw a review on the HP omen 15 someone said its better in terms of thermals than the msi....what do you think about the hp omen and what do you have now
so the only problem i see is where is a dedicated usb 2.0 port, i mean even today after nearly 10 years after usb 3.0 release, so many devices still have problems with anything above usb 2.0
Wow, they brought out a mobile variant of their already released mainstream processors. Calm down guys, it is not like a big surprise to anyone. NDA and so on, but I don't care at all about that shit. If you show a Notebook with a Vega 64 and AMD 2700X, then we can talk again.
MSI already has similar to what you want, it has the desktop 1700 in it. When the 2700X comes out, you should be able to just drop it in, though I doubt their will be much of a difference. Only major downside is it has an RX 580 instead of Vega, but the whole machine is $1500, and lets be real, Vega by itself desktop version is $1000, so you're looking at probably $2200 ($650-700 price difference between RX and Vega). Still barely more than this laptop was though...
Jake Garrett yeah but that is something new, that I did not see already. You got all kinds of Nvidia GPUs with up to Titans and 1080 TIs already in notebooks. I haven't seen any high end Vega GPUs in Notebooks... for a good reason. This coupled with the new AMD processors would really surprise me.
Thats true to a certain degree, there is an Raven Ridge Mobile APU called 2700U with a Vega 10 graphic in it, but that is nothing that goes into the high-end. I'm talking about about a desktop grade GPU on Vega basis, coupled with the top model of the Ryzen 2 processors.

I told him the issue and he told me, “Press FN+F5”. The support was that quick and easy. It was quicker then the time it took to type out this comment. It’s the first computer that I have had no regrets purchasing (other then having to use an external optical drive). I’ve had it about 6 months with no issues and it’s still not outdated.
that s why i read instructions first lol

OTC Gaming, mine was about $1900 US dollars at Best Buy. Yes, I was able to get this system at Best Buy.
That intro into the sponsor section would have been perfect for IFixIt. This video is brought to you by IFixIt, while you can't fix the letter with IFixIt, there are many other things that you CAN fix with it.
How about fat, silent, cool laptop? I had one with Vista couple years go, ofc only dualcore 1.6ghz but still.
There is a plus to this laptop that the others don't have: the premium audio jack output with a "HiFi" DAC. And the optic audio out.
I was so interested in this until I saw they removed the num pad. I NEED THAT FOR 3DMODELING
I recently bought myself a GS65 about two months ago now, and all I can say is, it's freaking good.
How bout now?
@@agps4418 I have the 1070 max q version, I love it. After undervolt it's amazing
so why do people want vr ready laptops? i don’t see it to be common for people to pull out a vive at the coffee shop. i would think people would much rather have the more powerful and cheaper desktop where they can have a better setup and more immersive experience. i mean maybe you just want a compact device for at home, but i’d like some input in case i’m wrong.
Kevin The Memer backpack with no cables
it sucks tho and isnt more than a marketing move
Kevin The Memer its just for marketing, people will want to buy a laptop that has "VR READY" on the box
Yep, just like 6gb of RAM on a phone, like seriously, 3gb is plenty for Pubg, are you guys doing CAD assemblies and renders on your phone or something? I highly doubt Angry Birds needs 6gb of RAM...
Jake Garrett phones need that much ram because the shitty developed apps in the Google store keeps eating your ram
I want a laptop that I can take out with me if I decide to, and then use at home as well. No point having a desktop that has to stay at home and dont get the choice, or worse, having a desktop and a laptop as well. Would only use VR at home, at the risk of knocking over other peoples drinks.
Nice to see a MSI review. Been waiting for the review of other models. Guess I’ll be waiting a while.
Please make a laptop recommendation guide for different price points
@@MisterTipp I have the 1070 max Q so you should be good for awhile with a 2070 max

Wow! That's the laptop that I wanted since a long time! Thanks for the review!
Capta1n Oh sure! Thanks for the suggestion. We'll I didn't get the laptop yet. ✌
This is a good video it has a nice flow, the background music helps a lot
"Its also got this nifty difty little-"
*My RUclips App Crashes*
Oh, that's.. Neat I guess
Those scratches on you razer blade 14 breaks my heart. FeelsBadMan
I think you forget to mention figure print sensor on this laptop.
hit like if you agree...
I disagree
Easton Williams 😂😂😂😂
Some of the review units didnt have one like Dave Lee so Linus might have not gotten one either. Or its just not activated yet on the software side.
Which figures does it print?
Wow that webcam mic sounds astonishingly clear on it.
I have just bought the msi gf62vr 7rf for 1500 euros (i'm in Holland, so shitty prices) but i can still return the laptop and i am doubting to go for the 1060 version of the new laptop. Should i go for it? Let me know!
Sound on that cam is really good
Linus’s forearms are vainy lmao ;)
Great video, no complaints. Good music, camera work, audio, Linus is great, silly props that didn't overstay their welcome. This is the sorta video I come to LTT to watch. The sort where I am not in the laptop market and don't expect to be in it for a few years, but still watch this video because I like the work you guys do, and I like staying informed on tech stuff.
I just returned my MacBook Pro 2018 and I want to buy this laptop will this be good for world of Warcraft, and learning to program?
Eric Lopez yes it will work great for both of those 😃
I'd really love if they include a dB meter reading when it's on maximum load/stress test.
1:11 if anyone sees me wearing that shirt, they will think I am nuts...
You should really take a look at the newest video of DIY Perks. He made a beautiful wood PC which could be an inspiration for your next builds.
Imagine having an 8 core MacBook Air!
That Cinebench score is quite a bit lower than what people where getting on the Gigabyte laptops with the same CPU.
Do the Asus 1 next!
Was in market for new budget gaming laptop this was awesome. I am now a subscriber to your channel and like you build video cause soon to build a new desktop. Keep up the good work
how about fan noise in a quiet room?
Scott Lee if I remember correctly it’s around 44db the aero15x is 41-42 it’s not noticeable if game sounds are on.
Shouldnt care abt fan noise in a fully decked out and slim laptop..
at 6:22,when they're showing how thin the plastic is. Suddenly there's nailpolish involved xD I was like "Wait, is he wearing nailpolish?" xD
Prefer it thicc
Anyone else experience the audio not syncing correctly and some glitchy video?
Nice !
I have a GS73VR that has overall been quite good. You should review their larger screen one too when they refresh it.
And this video is sponsored by tunnel bear
Could something similar to the ROG Rig Reboot be done again. It was nice to see those who can't afford the top of the line equipment getting a chance to have high end PCs.
mac book bro is a competitior ? to the msi gs65? ok. seems legit
*lmao*
Please make a video of asus zephyrus M and gigabyte aero 15x v8 please
Sultan Ahmad You're right! Pls do it, Linus
6:29 that was one of your worst puns yet.
GS65 is better! Check reviews of scar 2 !
Please start uploading in 4K again.
No numpad on a 15.6 inch laptop is a no go for me.
Agreed. This looks to be the first MSI GS6* series laptop without the numpad. I wonder why they dropped it.
Because it’s on a 14.1” body
macbook doesn't have a numpad like since forever..
I'm the same way but i think imma just get a number pad attachment for it
Raman numpad isn’t necessary 😂
1:05 we all know linus wanted to say Tunnelbear
Linus can you make video about low $ gaming pc_s do to the rize of price because of gpu miners , like something that can run overwatch/fortnite in 50-60 fps low 1080p
Sorry. Its impossible for Linus to touch anything mid-range or lower without saying its trash and should of never been made.
vitez simunkovic A 7770 should do the job with a decent phenom x6/x4
Sapphire Destiny na na na 100% will make a lot of $ for it because other people that are not subed will watch it because everyone is looking for a low end good pc this days
SubaruImpreza i know but i dont understand what works whit what and in my countury people are dum and selling ddr4 for 5$ and seling gpu for half the price IN 2017
Still salty about that video huh, fun fact! Those GPUs were trash and if you buy trash you should be ashamed.
There are some great laptops launching this year
Dude, literally nobody cares about the webcam😂 You and Dave Lee will never understand.
those FBI agents do
you should then
I have a GS65 as my work laptop and wouldn't mind a nicer webcam for video calls. Maybe that's just me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@sethmp333 I understand this isn't supposed to be a "business" laptop or whatever but I need GPU power for VR work :(
that mic was quite good. why not mention it with the webcam?
Looks like a lambo.
Would like to see the internals of this laptop. How easy is it to upgrade the RAM, NVME slots..etc.
Kicks the new MacBook pros ass for less than half the price
strange that on their website they don't advertise it as maxq
"MacBook Pro"
"Competitor"
Lol, k
When he said "And this video is brought to you by" I was expecting "TUNNELBEAR" but the excitement was gone it was just the merch store lol.
Thinness isn't worth it.
i was thinking about buying it, so according to your experience should i buy it
@@fitah47 lol no.
No thermal / throttling testing... this is not a serious reviewer.
I saw the trailer for this thing yesterday
and I was like why the f*** hasn't
Linus covered this yet ?
2000$ for basically a 1060? I mean...no.
Kurgo it was 1070 tho... max Q
I think it is actually 1060...
no that is at $1800
Aiman Hilmi welp... still going to cost more than 2000$ in most places, especially Europe.
well yeah can't avoid taxes and markup tho
How long will this laptop last if i buy it in 2023
Wow, they brought out a mobile variant of their already released mainstream processors. Calm down guys, it is not like a big surprise to anyone. NDA and so on, but I don't care at all about that shit. If you show a Notebook with a Vega 64 and AMD 2700X, then we can talk again.
Joshbert & Friends Looks like we got a amd fanboy in the house!!!!
HDDoggyStyle using an I7 7700K atm. I am not a fanboy. It is not as simple as that.
Thermal throttling after thermal paste drying
I love the clarification they had with "6"
The mic on that sounds great, makes up for the 720p
