6:02 That startup time makes me wet. My laptop takes at-least 15 minutes even after I restored windows with all data delete. Update: - For people telling me to get an SSD. First of all thank-you. That is good advice but I'm going to be changing the computer soon so It'll have an SSD or even an NVME. - I have cleaned my disk of all data and re-installed Windows 10 but the time is the same. I think the disk is worn out by now. - Also, I take extremely good care of my laptop. Clean it, defragment the disks, check for errors, have no malware and don't overload disk as well. Also, I don't have any programs on startup. My desktop is clean as well. Still don't know why it has come to this.
Linus is so harsh on Razer, but I think it's because he has hopes for Razer. If you think about it, Razer has steadily improved their laptop everytime Linus complained about something. That aside, this Razer looks amazing. Really a big fan of the bezeless screen. I am always a fan of having more screen in a smaller form factor. PS. Is that an MSI gaming tattoo? :P
I am so offended this doesn’t have a finger print scanner. At this point I really feel I’m just buying the name. Razer use to push boundaries but it seems like they’re missing basic features we simply need. I can’t enter my password 20 times a day, my notebooks have a finger scanner on the on button and I don’t even have to think about it. I wish they had just out a few extra dollars into this design. Regretfully, I think I’m out. For this price, and the amount it needs in upgrades for 4K video editing, I deserve a finger print scanner. Lol. Also what’s with no SSD slot! For the price I don’t want to have to buy and lose a $3 SSD reader all the time. Grrrr
Just judging by size and specs, this seems to be the perfect laptop. Thin, light, GTX 1070, 6-core CPU, expandable RAM, (hopefully) decent cooling, large battery and modern, non-"gamery" design. If only it weren't so expensive...
IMO the problem with all these products is that the dedicated gpu doesn't automatically switch off when its power isn't needed and switches to the intel igpu. This makes for pretty poor battery life which imo makes it pretty poor as a mobile device.
Hey Linus! VERY good first hands-on impression, the best I've watched so far for sure. I like how you really go into it as a real user would, really getting a feel of every little thing, such as keyboard keys feel, noticing the cable on the power brick, etc. I'm looking forward to your full review, but what would be really great is a comparison video between similar laptops like the MSi GS65, the Asus Zephyrus and the Aero 15x. Like you said, that kind of products has evolved a lot in the last couple years and competition is stronger than ever. Those are the laptops I've been waiting for for years now and I can't believe we're finally there. Please an in-depth comparison video would be awesome! (don't forget to compare the speakers, as that could easily be what makes me go to one product over the others!)
Linus said this in reference to un-soldered RAM. It's not sad because it's 2018 and RAM is still being soldered to boards, it's sad because it USED to be un-soldered, and is now usually soldered. It's sad because what once used to be guaranteed in laptops (modularity) is now considered a feature.
AbuBakr Akram yes and on other side APPLE DID BEGINN THAT SOLDERED RAM SOLDERERD SSD AND SOLDERER BATTERY SH*T IN 2012 WITH RETINA MACBOOK PRO SO THE OTHERS DID DO THE SAME WAY AS APPLE DID . I REALLY WISH APPLE NEVER BEGAN OF THINKING SOLDERED RAM, BATTERY , AND EVEN THE FREAKING SSD IS SOLDERED to the freakin MOTHERBOARD SO WE CANT UPGRADE TO ANOTHER SSD OR PUTTING IN A STRONGER FASTER AND COOLER FAN WE CANT EVEN DO THAT .
I'm summing up the comments, in couplet form. Is that a new tatoo? Where is the full review? Is that a new tatoo? Where is the full review? Is that a new tatoo? Where is the full review? Is that a new tatoo? Where is the full review? Should I publish it?
Daggnabbit Linus! You young whippersnapper! When grandpa gamed before the war, it was on 300x240 at 256 colours and we were happy shooting nazis in Castle Wolfenstein and demons on Mars at 60Hz! 🤪🤘🏼🤫
Anders Enger Jensen Oh you lucky bastards. When we grew up, colors weren't invented yet. We had black and white, manual slide show games. The latency was epic. And there were no people (or animals) of color. We were all 50 shades of gray. Then my friend Nicodemus imported one of those hot new Dodos, with an orange beak. It was the talk of the town for weeks, before the elders burned both the Dodo and Nicodemus at the stake. Harsh times man. Never saw a Dodo again.
Xo3 =Face ID is the Apple marketing name for facial recognition, so do you actually mean facial recognition when you say Face ID? Kinda like Windows Hello, which is already here.
I love that ltt can use or build everything they want. No limits. Everything just somehow goes through.. :D Want to build a Dual-8k Productivity Setup? Sure. No problem. Want to build an insane four way sli gaming pc? Everything's to your disposal. Want to use the new unreleased Razer Blade? Sure. Give me a sec.
Dat love-hate relationship :) Seemed a bit too harsh, starting from the title, to packaging jabs...The laptop is very good, happy they finally stepped it up - it, realistically, has everything you could want from a gaming / high-performance work machine - thin, relatively light, very powerful, good display for either gaming or creative work, and really well built. Yeah, competition exists, but it's not so abundant, even the pricing seems ok-ish compared, so he should cut them some slack :) For example, bezels on Zephyrus are a huge turn off now - also worse I/O, only 1080p monitor with not very good accuracy, TB3 also on right-hand side etc...As I said - Linus, be objective :)
Just because they share some cultural traits do not mean they run their businesses the same. Forbes ranks Singapore at number 9 in the world for doing business compared to China which is number 66. Chinese businesses are sooo heavy regulated compared to Singapore and closely tied to the government if they want to trade internationally. Judging by your comments it's pretty obvious you don't like the Chinese, how about you actually visit China with an open mind and a little bit of critical thinking. I can't believe that someone that spent 30 years in a country like Singapore can't see the huge difference between China and Singapore and it's people. You are either lying or ignorant, it's a world of difference.
the charging brick with the curved cord is GREAT in the backpack, takes less space and it doesn't get bent in there, when using it just place where it doesn't get bent, not that hard. Also if the thermals are better, a few mm doesn't change anything in the backpack, as long as it's not thick it's ok!
One of the best generation-to-generation upgrades I've seen a company do in a long time. I'm a little dumbfounded by the lack of biometric readers though. A Windows hello IR camera would have made this a nearly flawless machine (considering the form factor and target market).
You'd think they'd put the trackpad on the far right side since it's a 'gaming' laptop so you could actually game with it in a pinch (like the Predator laptop). I use my computers for heavy image editing/processing as well as gaming, and I can't go back to 1080p unless I'm playing a game. Once they have a 4k 120+hz model I'll be getting one. (or at least a 4k that can go up to 144hz when playing at 1080p). Sounds like they're probably using the same screen manufacturer that makes the HP Spectre 4k touch screens (which are very nice).
I always watch Razer reviews with mixed emotions. I bought a refurbished 2016 Razer blade stealth 4k from newegg for a really good price. it was shipped to me with a defective and already under recall power adapter, that left my RBS bricked, until they shipped a new charger two weeks later. A few months later, the motherboard fried, had to ship it to Razer to be fixed, got it back three weeks later. A few months later it wouldn't charge properly and sometimes not at all, so back it went to be serviced. Three weeks later it was shipped back to me from Razer and worked properly for an entire day before it was clear it was not fixed and unusable once again. I sent it back, this time Razer decided to replace the laptop. Two months later I finally received the replacement Razer blade stealth, it was even a newer model. The late 2016 model was really impressive and I was super happy with it. For a month it was total laptop bliss, then it happened again. It won't power up or anything, so back it goes. I began to question my abilities to care for computer equipment, but my 2009 macbook pro has been under my care without issue for nearly a decade. Razer support have been apologetic and professional with each encounter, but it doesn't change the situation, the warranty requires the unit to be shipped to Razer to be serviced. In my case its been unimaginably awful. Im shocked that this is how they are handling it and would not wish this on anyone looking to pick up a new laptop.
Maybe i just got a bad laptop, which happens, I can understand that. What really grinds my gears is that their support and technical support is so inept. The SSD failed. I sent it in. Had they bothered to actually power the thing on they would have seen that. Instead I got is sent back saying everything was fine. I eventually gave up fighting with them and went and bought a new SSD and replaced it myself. You'd thing spending $1900 on a laptop you'd expect decent service ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm looking forward to the full review. I've had a couple of 14" Blades over the years and they've been great gaming machines for when I've needed to game away from home, especially because they don't weigh 3 tons like a regular gaming laptop used to. My only gripes with the previous units (apart from the price) seems like they might be fixed now, but we'll have to see. Never like the physical touchpad buttons they were too small and wobbly I'm glad they're gone, 14" always felt just a little too small (but one I was willing to put up with for an extremely small gaming laptop) but I'm glad they've gone to 15", I'm glad they've gone mini display port as well as HDMI now. The only remaining issue is fan noise, if they've got on top of the fact that their previous laptops sounded like a 747 taking off under a prolonged gaming session then this would be a perfect laptop.
i am thinking of buying it, its just a few things that bother me about installing the new hard drive. 1. When we install the new hard drive will drivers be on the original hard drive (the razer applications that give you the mode to be in gaming mode etc) 2. there is no windows hello log in feature and is there we can get that installed on the razer base model which is a hybrid meaning ut has both HDD and SSD. I really love the design of the laptop and want those features on them
Looking forward to followup. Selling our RV, which will get us fresh pc’s, and considering Razer Blade top of the line all around with a dock for desktopping,
Because you use the Razer Blade Stealth, can you tell me if for the price difference and everything. Is it a better choice to get the Razer Blade 15? Or the Razer Blade Stealth (with quad core)? I’m going to be using it for music production. I want it to run really smooth with no problems. What choice do you recommend? No gaming.
I actually suspected being an engineering sample, they might have foregone the battery entirely (to aid with international shipping). At the start you can see the shipping code on the box, though: UN3481; "Lithium ion batteries contained in equipment or Lithium ion batteries packed with equipment". Meaning probably not the case, here.
I love my 2016 blade. Though it's good they're doing more to adjust the design language for a more modern, less "mac book clone" look. Though I still love their super minimal ways.
Think we should be looking at larger screens now on laptops since they're suitably light and thin now, just a pound extra to improve the viewing wouldn't impact portability too much? Just like how when smartphones were developed and got thinner and gave rise to tablets, maybe it's time to bring a better personal viewing experience through laptops. Imagine getting the sort of experience from a good pc monitor in the more portable form of a laptop. Particularly wider screens would suit this, rather than keeping the same aspect ratio and increasing length too much as well. Having something like 21 inches would really appeal to me when playing a game with a high level of detail or watching videos, however not having the room for a desktop setup is a real limiting factor for me.
that is one beautiful edge to edge screen
its heating up because your blocking the fans!

Install an SSD, for around $60 you'll have the same startup times
You really need an SSD for the boot drive
Mustafa Ahmed that was my old laptop, even had an ssd, now that I have a newer laptop and a good pc it's pretty fast. Not that fast though

Kali Linux is my guess
An important part of reviewing a product is looking at it objectively
Elliot Kwan because the laptop is a rip off. Asus has better machines
Elliot Kwan no they haven’t! They make shit ass products and then they want you to jump through a million hoops to make you fix a simple problem.

Reported to be user upgradeable ram up to 32gb and m.2 hard drive
thedog556 the dgpu is unnecessary? Are you kidding me? This is a gaming/workstation laptop, the GPU is one of the main selling points
IMO the problem with all these products is that the dedicated gpu doesn't automatically switch off when its power isn't needed and switches to the intel igpu. This makes for pretty poor battery life which imo makes it pretty poor as a mobile device.
I really like the square design

1) Linus probably got a tattoo
2) Linus is going bald
Almost looks like an MSI dragon tattoo
the boy with a dragon tattoo
Roni Romero I watch it
Phone 120hz laptop 60hz nice Razer
Except that, as he went over in great detail, the laptop has a 144hz option.
Júlíus Þór Halldórsson 60hz shouldn't be an option in the first place
Not everybody buys these for 144hz gaming. More choice for the consumer is always better.
Júlíus Þór Halldórsson its gaming notebook so yes 60hz shouldnt be in first place
again, as explained in detail, they are likely targeting a creative/business market with the 60hz.

"It's 2018"
"IT'S THE CURRENT YEAR, GOD FUCKING DAMN IT!"
you're right, given how fast technology is advancing, we should be measuring our time by the current gen intel chips. "It's i8-3rdGen bro"

To-Do List that Razer needs:
Finger Touch Sensor
Face ID
Tunderbolt 3 on Left

Cookie Panda it is your fault if it broke
the first two is whatever, no one really needs it, thunderbolt 3 on left definite!

lol lol uh no, razers shitty qa is legendary. Love my deathadders but it's a toss up whether itll last two years or two months.
The new Razer Blade 2018 power block on the charger looks like the Razer phone lmao

How many organs will I have to sell to get this now?
Javed Denton if you sell your kidney you could buy about 120 laptops
CaptainCrazy500 so i could buy 120 laptops, sell 119 for more expensive and than buy myself a new kidney?
Javed Denton Just your kidney. If you plan to go for a Macbook you need AT LEAST to sell your heart.
Like all of them 🤣
You can sell one testicle, that's about $32,000. You only need one for everything to work fine lmao

TechKasco what is wrong with that..?
Corsair mouse, Razer laptop, MSI tattoo
dashmaul no issue.
That's called balance between garbage and good stuff, razer and corsair respectively, if that's not obvious enough
Silfur and who says that razer is shit?? You? Yeah thats why they sell good and their products are amongst the most popular... bcs they are garbage...
If you don't use Humble Bundle, there is something wrong with you
the right angle power adapter is good for storing the brick in a bag. Thats where you want it to not be strained.
When is the full review coming out, Linus?
How else watches these videos and never buy anything because they are broke??

The SSD failed. I sent it in. Had they bothered to actually power the thing on they would have seen that. Instead I got is sent back saying everything was fine. I eventually gave up fighting with them and went and bought a new SSD and replaced it myself.
You'd thing spending $1900 on a laptop you'd expect decent service ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Asteladric its is 4 years using it still standing like a champ
Are you recording in your kitchen or is this just a set? What a neat place.
Jorge Manuel Its a set
It's a set, Its such an awesome place. They have living room sets, futuristic sets, its absolutely crazy!
Did you drop It?
I am in the comments section to learn about the New Tattoo.. as everyone else
Wait, linus got a tattoo ?
Are you gonna do a review
Nice to see HumbleBundle sponsor spots.
since no more tunnel bear. I was hoping that tattoo is tunnel bear
Who watched yet the outro just because of the Intro?
Sophia I always watch them but this time I watched multiple times for easter eggs.
i am thinking of buying it, its just a few things that bother me about installing the new hard drive.
1. When we install the new hard drive will drivers be on the original hard drive (the razer applications that give you the mode to be in gaming mode etc)
2. there is no windows hello log in feature and is there we can get that installed on the razer base model which is a hybrid meaning ut has both HDD and SSD.
I really love the design of the laptop and want those features on them
Where's the actual review for this
WORLD: -Gaming on 15,6 screen?
RAZER: -Easy!
WORLD: -R u crazy?
RAZER: -Yes!
Looking forward to followup. Selling our RV, which will get us fresh pc’s, and considering Razer Blade top of the line all around with a dock for desktopping,

And has an MSI tattoo? ;p
I mean like.. He IS reviewing the LAPTOP...
Lol do you have a tattoo now?!
No gaming.
What's the battery life tho?
Pre prod model, and they just got it, so they can't really say.
zacpowerleon ok feranda
The way he's waving it around without unplugging it (yet unplugs the other one just to pick it up), probably 0.
TheTopMostDog if it can't survive a little man handling, I'm not buying it.
The real question is "When haven't they screwed up?"
mcopyright with lancehead blackwidow chroma v2 firefly man o war
mcopyright Is that question directed to Apple? I'm pretty sure it is.
Bought one, absolutely love it, but the backlight bleed is still there and a little bit annoying
why is linuses hair so strange to me
0bAm3 looks the same. Very high school gel messy look.
He's balding. He even made comments about that in the past.
SteelSkin667 yeah true. You can tell his hair is thinning.
Cuz he’s Canadian, eh?
Linus bald tips
When is the full review!.?!?!

I’m waiting too
And still waiting...
meelokun still waiting?
Stilllllllllllllll....

I love my 2016 blade. Though it's good they're doing more to adjust the design language for a more modern, less "mac book clone" look. Though I still love their super minimal ways.
nice tattoo of a ketchup
Did Linus get a tattoo? Since when????
What a good alternative for the $2199 Razer blade 15 2018 model? I'm thinking of buying it but a lot of people say you can get the same for cheaper.
Don't cut yourself on that blade.
6:08 FLAT EARTH CONFIRMED
if the earth was a sphere, how could it be displayed....... ON A 2D MONITOR
Plum_ Pie stop
Plum_ Pie 9gag commenter spotted.
So you're a man of culture as well?
I agree!

When did Linus get a tattoo on his right forearm?
