Hi Dan, Many thanks for recrafting my shoes and the important for me colour change. Rubber soles for grip as winter approaches, I really like the colour now and have been wearing them a fair bit now and had a few compliments. I liked the original colour but did not wear them much and felt they where to light for me, which it turned out to be true. They where sold originally as Water Bison by Crocket and Jones in the late 70's early 80's, so I hope that answers one question, I tend to look after my boots and shoes and when I am not wearing them, they all have shoes trees in. Cost wise for this ebay find , £37 for the shoes and £160 for Dans skills. As you can see £200 ish for a pair of new to me hand made English shoes from Crocket and Jones (est 1869) I feel was well worth it. I have enjoyed watching Dan work his magic ever since he started making youtube vids and felt I would have to find something exotic for him to work on. I enjoyed the new vid style but I also enjoy the longer ones as well but time is important to us all. Again many thanks Dan.
An excellent find. Considering that a pair of shoes of this make would be above £500, add on the extra for an exotic skin, after Dan's work they are as good as new. You had them very cheap, all in.
I think this one is on the stitcher, if you haven't seen it yet. Not big blue, but still pretty interesting. ruclips.net/video/4WfzK0N3bq4/видео.htmlsi=0CbY8BDRZnC1k87a
I'm an Auto mechanic in Latvia and I love the intricacies you show. It shows the pride and joy you take in the job, like i do when i fix and maintain cars. It doesn't care ir its a cheap car or an expensive one, all cars are cared the same...
Long time lurker. I've enjoyed your content for a while. Not sure if you've always used a videographer, but I loved this video. The scenes blended together really nice. Hats off to the camera person.
I remember that back 1980, my dad changed himself the color of a pair of boots from tan to black, but that when he was applying the color, he put the tint on fire, so that the color stick to it. Saludos from Mexico!!
Hi just found your channel. I'm 62 now and live in Seattle but I started out at 18 years old in shoe factories, as did my mum and grandparents. I have a real passion for good quality shoes and the art of repairing them.
Awesome videos! I actually was looking around RUclips for different things and saw your videos! I was wondering what does a church actually smell like! I’ve been in plenty of churches and don’t notice any certain smells! I guess it’s a British thing. I’m from the USA
Dan, the quality of your work is phenomenal, as always... but to be honest, I didn't like the choices, which I'm assuming, were made by the client. The color, the sole... They were so much better before.
I purchased a pair of red wing #435 boots. They were nu buck leather . I wanted dark brown doors so I oiled them with red wing boot oil 3 themes over3 days then I started using Kelly's shoe cream dark brown but I wanted a darker color so I went to tarrago #6 dark brown Great color but neither of the polishes buff to a great shine. I spent 3 years in the Marine Corps with 1 ½ of that in Vietnam so shine is important Please help. Love your utube repair show.Michael Marsh
Nice job mate! I wanted to ask you about the soles. Being the shoes a special kind of leather, wouldn't it be better looking to put leather soles instead? or did you use those rubber ones because they're more comfortable to walk? I just think leather ones would've look nicer BUT you're the expert!
£250 for a new stitching needle-that's daylight robbery! They know that you need that part to run your business, so they can charge you anything they like. It might be best to keep a spare one, just in case they get hard to come by and the price is bound to go up as well.
Sent you an email to the address displayed on your FB page few months ago, no reply...now the tringshoerapirs website is not available due to DNS error 😑😑
I actually partly trained this guy 15-18ish years ago! Always wondered what he was up to and then saw Dans smiley face randomly - he’s a fair bit better now 😂 glad to see things are going great for you 👍
i don't know if you did it .. Looked like you missed a hole when you gave the machine Oile.. top center part behind the top ridge under the push arm 9:46 (close to you)
I've heard pouring stripper on the soul doesn't do anything to loosen the glue that's what a very experienced old cobbler told me. Are you certain it works?
Hey Dan i recall in an older vid you were removing old stitches rather than just going over them and said something like it might be quicker but its not the proper of doing job. Just want u to know even though i hate my retail job sometimes, your words of wisdom inspire me to get things done the proper way even thou i could just say screw it sometimes..cheers, erin michigan usa
Hey Dan. Great result in the end. How do you prep the leather for dyeing? I've been thinking of dying a brown leather recliner black - do you use acetone or something to remove the old polish/finish before the dye project?
I'm just wondering how it's possible for a person to Google the term "jerkoff stripper" without encountering a plethora of embarrassing search results! 🤣
They look great, but wouldn’t it be better to replace the welt as well? Maybe the client didn’t want it replaced, but isn’t it nearly impossible to get the new thread into the same holes. Thanks.
Great quality! I was initially curious on the video title. There are no water bison, so I started watching and you mentiomed water bufallo, so all makes sense now.👍🏻
Excellent workmanship with high quality product. I have three pairs of Italian-bought shoes that I would like to refurbish. I wish I was in your country, Thank you for your videos.
I did not know that about tape. 67 years old, and I learned something new today, without having to leave home. Jay's a good guy; a smart guy, especially since he's come into furniture repair/restoration so relatively recently. I mainly watch him for the cats, though. NGL. Oh, and I love those shoes. I bought a pair of Crockett & Jones while I was overseas, many years ago - okay, decades ago. Them and a pair of Clarks that I bought in Hong Kong, but were stolen by shipboard workers in the Philippines. I tried car sales for a short time after I got out of the Navy (I sucked at it, and hated it). For that job, where you had to dress somewhat nicely, I did by a pair of used Crockett & Jones from a thrift shop. They looked very nice, but the soles were very worn, and I didn't know there was such a thing as someone who could replace it.
Those are beautiful shoes. I love the grain on buffalo and bison leathers. Those gaps on either side of the shanks triggered my OCD though 😬. I would have filled those with cork, or better yet, with some pieces of scrap leather cut to shape and glued in place.
I’ve just found you today and have binged watch a ton of your videos! I think I could even give it a go myself, but the shoes wouldn’t be wearable! You make it look so easy! 😊
Nice job, Dan. Two quick questions: Given that those were from the late-70s/early-80s, it's pretty apparent the owner takes care of his shoes. Do you often get shoes in for repair with trees in place? And, is it mostly the trees that keep the uppers in good shape or is there more to it than that (aside from cleaning and waxing)?
Cordialement.
I love getting exotic leather in, it’s always an exciting job! We tried a different kind of filming this time, did you notice?
The cameraperson did a remarkable job. I thought Ron was going to be the new host, though
Do you ever capture the customers reaction when they collect?
@@stevenyoung1999 it’s been known to happen a few times, very hard to make happen though

how much to resole a pair of meindl dovre boots..[you could do a video on doing them and give me a good discount.lol]

Would you consider doing a video on the different machines in your shop? In particular the large blue machine that is used for many functions?
Sure, that’s been asked before so may do!

And maybe a Dan...like the guy repairing the shoes.
great video and super awesome that he told us the cost at the end, i love that transparency!
Terrific job Dan. Shoes looks so different and brand new.

Who ever owns those shoes...if from the 70s.....they look amazing! The leather looked brand new from the start
What's the difference between a buffalo and a bison 🦬?
You can't wash your hands in a buffalo 😊
I'll get my coat...

I was born in Birmingham and grew up in the Black Country so I always wash my hands and face in a water bison ;-)
Too subtle for the vast majority but very funny nevertheless
Do you do ship-in jobs? I have a pair of new Loake Bedale Black and I want them with commando sole. Can you do that? Let me know your email.
I would over-cream them
with mahogany or red cream from sapphire and they would have a nicer touch,
so it's "very dull" chocolate color😉
Not too shabby !
I actually partly trained this guy 15-18ish years ago! Always wondered what he was up to and then saw Dans smiley face randomly - he’s a fair bit better now 😂 glad to see things are going great for you 👍

Hello. If I am not mistaken, that looks like an old fashioned "Singer" branded machine. What is it's function?

The Bi and Triceps detail is immaculate. Super Jealous of the Arms 💪🏽
U have put hours of hard work into that job for only £160. U should be charging a lot more.
I live in the US, can I send you a pair of To Boot NYC shoes to fix up? They need some love and Id love to have them on your channel!
Gotta say the other way of filming is better. The focus is off the way this video was done. Still a great video!
Wow looks amazing what a finish you have done would that be a expensive job
They make bicycle bells in Tring too don't they? 😂
Cool video, I've never watched anything like this before 😊
There's hope yet for good Bri'ish genes. Love Ozzy Osborne!!!
Ron just sitting there watching you struggle putting those gloves on lol didn't even offer help
Not sure why but your online web-shop appears not to be available. I get a cannot find server error.
How old is that sawing machine? Do they still make parts for it? I want to know more!
Wow £160 seems so cheap for what all you did! Great work.
Beautiful job Dan..Would have had an orange or lime green sole myself but they look fab..
Why no mid sole? Do you recommend adding a mid sole doing a rubber bottom?
Great video.. Can i ask how reliable is the colour change?
How do you know when to sand the nail, cut the nails, hammer then out heel through shoe, etc?
Hey Dan. Great result in the end.
How do you prep the leather for dyeing? I've been thinking of dying a brown leather recliner black - do you use acetone or something to remove the old polish/finish before the dye project?
You can use saphir renomat to prep the surface
Love your video's i sometimes see other shoes repair channel where they use heat on the kurk ?
Great job, they are way more current in dark brown. Having a camera person makes the video better. I’m sure faster to make and edit
The plan is to save time for sure
@@Dan_the_cobbler I emailed about such last week 😉
I think we prefer the old classic music of the channel
Looks like that stitcher could use some cleaning too, lots of gunk on there.
Great job and thanks for letting us know the cost!
Any time!
Can you run through the machines and tools you use?
Fajna faktura tej skóry.
Qual é aquela massa que se usa antes de colar a sola?! Parabéns pelo trabalho

Hi Dan is there away to make the leather on my shoes softer
Hello, last one is use cream or wax , Please clear sir
No such thing as a water bison. Bison and Buffalo are different animals. Weird that they call it that. Nice work though!
You're right!
They look great, but wouldn’t it be better to replace the welt as well? Maybe the client didn’t want it replaced, but isn’t it nearly impossible to get the new thread into the same holes. Thanks.
You are right, but that’s also over kill for a shoe repair unless the welt is worn out.
Nice shoes bison leather is great
Daym 😮 good funk music!
That is one beautiful repair!
Good uppers for 70s/80s shoes
Beautiful job!
Cracking Job 👍
Where was Ron??😢
nice, but no rubber sole

The rubber soles are much more practical, especially if you live where it rains a lot. But the leather soles look so much nicer, IMO.
