For the past 4 months you have completely changed my perspective on washing my car. The way you explain it really illustrates the picture in your head. I have now adopted your method of washing cars. I have great respect and admiration for people like you, Scott. Asking questions, testing theories and forming your own opinions and methods. Having said that, I only wash with "aggressive" soap once or twice a year. I cannot find a fast wax cheap enough that I wanna use it once a week on 2 cars. Autoglym Liquid Hard Wax is much more cost effective for me, and while it does take 30-45 minutes to apply, I don't need to re-apply it after every weekly Ph neutral wash :-0 Once a month is plenty, and the average time spent sealing isn't longer than a fast wax applied every week.
I have just recently found your channel Scott. I have been researching how to effectively clean and protect my cars, originally I almost fell for the OCD 3 bucket, ridiculous amount of initial investment methods seen on RUclips. Thankfully I had enough common sense to dig a little deeper passed the bullcrap and found you. I'm using your advice and washing and protecting my car the way you have described and I am very happy with the results. It makes so much sense. Thank you for putting this content out and teaching us a more efficient way or keeping our cars cleaned and protected!
Man...I’ve found my mentor, the depth of thinking you go too,i respect it so much.Thank you for putting your time and knowledge out there.I’m 17 just starting my business and your helping a whole lot.Thank you, your making my life much easier!
Thanks. For regular maintenance washing 1) Clean off traffic film using Purple Power Alkaline Soap. 2) Since this can strip waxes and sealants, reapply durable synthetic polymer sealant Meguair's Ultimate Fast Finish. Done. Meguair's advertises that Ultimate Fast Finish can last a full year, no buffing required, simply spray and wipe. That's impressive. What is the point of using those expensive ceramic coatings when they are washed off in the wash. Easier and better to use Ultimate Fast Finish after every wash. I wonder how many cars does that single can cover?
I just bought purple power vehicle and boat wash because of you and tried it this morning....and it did a good job cleaning my car. After i rinsed my car there was still beading on my car. Shows me it's great to remove grime and safe for clear coat

You're incredible. You remind me of a guy I met when trying Car Sales, he went by the name Bob... taught me everything I know about cars and sales. I know a lot of people don't 100% love the extended commentary, but you're very easy to listen to when working out or detailing cars myself.
Another brilliant video from Professor Scott. He's already shown in his other videos that you have to use handwashing everytime. If that's the case, swirling is going to happen anyway. Strip the car with heavy duty wash, polish if you have to, then apply sealant/wax. No point in fighting the process by leaving on a half dirty layer of wax/sealant that only confuses everything. This is how it was in the bad old days, except back then (and I'm talking a long time ago) there were no buffing machines and no quick sealants/waxes. But you always stripped it back as far as you could to get back to base layer.
You are right on the money, regarding the removal of traffic film. I've been using Blue Coral Ph-neutral soap on my wife's 08' Mazda Tribute SUV for a long time. Based on your videos, I decided to give it a wash with diluted Purple Power. All I can say is wow - I always thought it was clean using the Blue Coral, but I was wrong! After washing with Purple Power, the paint looked factory-fresh, with zero haze and traffic film.
Scott thank you so much for thinking outside the box, for pushing us to not just accept the status quo. Been watching you for a while I think your right on with this method. I'm definatly going to give it a try. Keep pushing us! Love you brother.
This is a great recommendation and I use this product for the traffic film removal. My question is how often do you wash your vehicle with this? Once a month? Twice month? Will Purple Power Vehicle and Boat Wash damage the paint in the long run? I have switched to Bilt Hamber Auto Foam, but getting that product is very difficult.
A contact wash with a pH neutral wash will remove traffic film etc. A detailer with any experience will tell you that before doing any paint correction or proper waxing, you need to prep the surface. How? Well some use isopropyl, or a wax/sealant remover after claying and iron decontamination. Maguire’s fast finish requires all that to be done as well if you want to use the product as instructed. Using it every time you wash is a massive waste of product and your time even though it’s cheap per use. If it’s the first wash for you, prewash with a snow foam or prewash rinse if you don’t have a pressure washer, contact wash with a pH neutral wash using two bucket or multi mitt method, iron, clay then use a wax/grease remover to get rid of all the old sealants and waxes. Apply Maguires Ultimate Fast Finish since that is what is being used here. All future washes should just be neutral pH washes to maintain your work. The aggressiveness of Purple Power over time is not great and is completely unnecessary for regular washes. Do it once properly then maintain!
I love your videos!!! This video makes a lot of sense. Being it is 3 years old I'm curious if you still use this process and are anti pH neutral soaps. I'm also curious how you can use traffic film removers with a foam gun. Do you know any non pH neutral traffic film removers that are designed to foam?
I use this method as well. Cars have been coming way cleaner! You can tell the difference and I love it. I'm applying opti seal while drying the car and that's the only real difference with what I'm doing. Works amazing
Hey Scott just found your videos, do you recommend doing this every time you wash your vehicle? or is it only when you want to get everything removed so you can apply a new paint protectant/sealant before paint correction? Thanks and I enjoy the videos and info!
Its a slow process for me. I bought both products. Here are my thoughts. The purple Power soap feels less slick than Chemical Guys that I've been using. I have a suspicion this will lead to more scratches using by wash net. And I also have to use twice as much to get the same amount of sudsing on my car with a foam Canon. The purple Power soap is the only one I've ever used that definitely strips off all of the waxes and protectants on my car. There is no beading afterwards. Because of this I'm finding it is very hard to dry the car enough to apply the Meguiars sealant. I try to leaf blower but the water just kind of smears around rather than beading and blowing off. Before I used to use a spray wax as you dry product and I think that is quicker. I guess the real question comes in, how long does it take traffic film to eat through a proper paint sealant that has been maintained with spray wax before it reaches clearcoat and sticks to that. I would assume any wash with ph neutral soap is still going to wash away most of a spray wax but leave the sealant underneath alone. Then I would continue to do a twice-a-year strip claybar reapplication of sealant and wax.
I used the PP yesterday on my car looked great and followes up with griots garage show detailer looked good. Used 3 ozs of pp for 3 gallons of water and also used it with foam gun what a great car wash Thanks Scott
I love your work Scott im from Québec Canada and i have a pricelist like your video interior Price detailing and exterior price! I charge more and it’s your work I do at my shop ! Tank you so much I like all of your video ❤❤❤
Another way I use to keep the paint clean all the time is after I wash I use a waterless product. They clean deep and leave existing waxes and leave some more. Using hard chemicals removing waxes can and will degrade the plastics and trim and spot them all over the car.
Scott people call you Howard Stern he revolutionized radio you have revolutionized auto detailing and big companies l think are watching your videos and thinking what new products can you put out to make Scott happy your following keeps growing keep it in high gear keep the fire 🔥 🔥 🔥 !
Scott this is an amazing video. Great thoughts great logic. Im thinking of getting my car a glass coating to protect the paint..and then wash my car using traffic film remover soap.. The idea is..TFR soap wouldnt remove coating, since coating chemically resistant and as far as i know the only chemical potent enough to destroy coatings in one single attempt is paint thinner... I think its a winwin, TFR will ensure all dirt grime and road film be gone from the coated paint..while coatings are impervious against TFR..so the final result is a totally perfectly clean and also protected car paint. What do u think Scott? Thx for ur response..and again this is an excellent video..im glad someone like u who can think outside the box..exist on youtube and save us all from all the BS and the crap.
Scott, I've been following this debate with interest and I love your videos. In your opinion, will a Traffic Film Remover such as Purple Power Vehicle & Boat, or Krud Kutter, or whatever, compromise the silica- (Si02) based coatings that seem to be in vogue these days? Disclaimer, I'm not a professional, just a guy that tries to take care of two cars the best he can (but I do believe I have more professional equipment and products in my arsenal than some pros out there). I can't help myself when there's a sale on one of the big websites; just trying to do a descent job, preserve my cars, and have fun at the same time. Thanks!
Hey Scott. Love your straight to the point, no bs videos. You talk a lot about waxes and sealants but I can't find any content from you about the "coatings". I would love to here your thoughts and how you rate them in a video. Keep up the good work.
Hey 👋 Scott were do I get purple power from the one you used on your customer ? And how much of this do I put in the bucket?? You should show everyone step by step !! Great video !! You keep it real 👍🏼 thanks
I've been thinking about that ever since I saw his 1st video which I LOVE them ALL.. !!!I'd like to see 1 COMPLETE PAINT CORRECTION VIDEO that shows every single step from Dirty Car to Protected finish I don't care if its a 2 hr. video..
Feedback: I tried my first maintenance wash (NOT strip wash) with Purple Power Heavy Duty Vehicle & Boat Wash Concentrate using the Scott Bley Car Wash Method. The car was clayed, 1-step paint corrected, sealed and waxed two weeks ago by myself. I also topped it off with Meguiar's Ultimate Fast Finish. My intent was to wash the car and not intentionally strip off all the wax and paint sealant. I used 2 ounces of Purple Power Heavy Duty Vehicle & Boat Wash in the foam cannon and 2 ounces in the wash bucket. The foam was not very thick at all. Especially when compared to my go to pH neutral soap, Chemical Guys Honeydew Snow Foam Car Wash Soap and Cleanser. The suds in the wash bucket were not very thick either. I will have to get used to that. Overall, it seemed to clean the car very well. Same as your local industrial car wash without the scratch inducing tools and improper wash methods. Also, it seemed like I still had some wax and/or sealant remaining. How much is anybody's guess. Hopefully with this method, Meguiar's Ultimate Fast Finish will take a majority of the hit. Time will tell. I'm still amazed at how fast one can apply Meguiar's Ultimate Fast Finish. Especially when compared to applying a carnauba wax or paint sealant. In fact, I'm wondering if it's ok to apply Meguiar's Ultimate Fast Finish to the whole car and THEN wipe the whole car instead of applying and wiping section-by-section. After blow drying with the WORX TURBINE 12 Amp Corded Leaf Blower, I like to towel dry with Chemical Guys After Wash Shine While You Dry Drying Agent. This gives the vehicle some extra shine and gloss in addition to eliminating any water spots. Fortunately, there does not appear to be any chemical incompatibility with Meguiar's Ultimate Fast Finish. So far, I'm really digging the Scott Bley Car Wash Method. The car looks awesome!
Finally! Working the chemist friends to provide invaluable information. I've got both of your recommendations now time to wash and protect the wife's 2017 Toyo Camry SE this weekend. Oh, I can also use my HydroShot with the WG520 to dry it. Scott, thanks for the informative reviews and information. Now, if I could only find that squeegee for the carpets. :)
Hi Scott, I have been watching your videos and I started using the PP vehicle and boat about three weeks ago. I wash my GMC Terrain once a week. I had a coat of Klasse AIO and Klasse SG that I applied about 2 months ago. Based on what I could see from water beading It seemed that it took about 3 washes to fully strip all the sealant off. I applied Fast Finish after my wash on Sunday and it looks great, you really have a great system going here! FF is so easy I could apply it every wash but do you think a fresh layer of FF could survive 2-3 washes of PP before it is completely removed? I know there is no real way to answer that question because there are so many variables, but what is your best guess based on your own experience with PP and FF? Thanks.
yes purple power wash will take a few times to remove a fresh layer of wax or sealant..i guess you could go a few washes before putting a fresh layer of fast finish ...for me since cost really isn't an issue i just apply fast finish every time i clean with purple power vehicle wash
Hey Scott, I have Jescar power lock plus on my car. Do you still recommend purple power?? I try to wash my car every week. So what would be the point of a long lasting sealant if I'm just going to strip it off next week? Please help. Oh btw I love your videos.
I think the point is that you're supposed to use a cheaper wax or seleant because you only need it to last untill your next wash because you will reapply it.
So do you recommend Purple Power boat and car wash over Meguiars Car Wash Plus - PP is much cheaper but in one of your videos, you rave about Meguiars Car Wash Plus. So, IYO, wash with Meguiars Car Wash Plus and finish with Ultimate Fast Finish for a quick wash and wax (assuming you do not need any polishing)?
i love both soaps..you just have to decide when its best for you to use them..purple power vehicle wash allows me to know i have removed all traffic film from the car and thats important to me..megs wash plus can be very helpful when someone has lots of sap and tar plus bugs all over the car from a long period of neglect and you want to use a soap with a fine polish within it to help remove those problems...hope that helps
Scott, will pp vehicle and boat damage clear coat??? Saw someone in another channel say this. I'm sure you have used this process long enough to give us an answer we can trust!! You are without a doubt the simplest, most informative detailer You tuber!!! Thnx for all you do to help the industry and keep people informed!!!
@@melinasparks3268 Really!! It's diluted?? Thought you poured it straight out the bottle on your wash medium!!!! I'm sure Scott knew what i meant. I know he's a busy man so i should not have left the question hoping he would answer!! I was referring to the diluted ppvb that he used in other videos as well.
Ive been using meguiars gold class for years, but i just did my first paint correction and looks like ill be switching to purple power since i also like using the fast finish. Once again, thanks for all the great tips!
Scott I love purple power what your doing. I just don't like that purple power does not foam. What do you think? Foam it using a ph neutral soap, full bucket with purple power and go over the foam with the purple power?
So to clarify, you use the purple power soap on the car, then you clay the vehicle, and then you apply the wax? No polishes or AIOs before the waxing process? Thanks for the helpful videos, Scott!
Thank you Scott, your video been getting me motivated on open an auto detailing business in C.A. I started off with a simpson pressure washer, 100g tank, honda 3000 generator, quiet air compressor, 5hp vacc and some polishing tools. Now i need my solution and how to find clients. Any tips on a good foam cannon and soap?
Hi Scott. Love your transparency man. Do we know if paint coatings can prevent the accumulation of traffic film, or have you surmised that they, like waxes, will just allow film to accumulate or penetrate to the clear thereby you would rather just "clean" your car and spray a wax on rather than try and protect the coating/wax? Also, this video is like a year old, do you still stand behind this methodology and fast finish? Thank you sir.
Scott, thank you for your videos. Would you know if ONR removes traffic film? I've been using it for weeks now with DI water and it'd be really difficult to sway away from it.
only you can tell because ONR will not tell you the surfactants within the soap since its a trade secret..it also depends on how much traffic film is on the car and how long its been on the car..i have done my own testing and i find many soaps fall short of removing traffic film completely ...i would say if your being diligent and washing your car right after driving in the rain you will probably remove a lot of the traffic film with ONR but thats not always possible in the real world so i become concerned the longer you go in between washes and the longer you have traffic film on the car...i hope that helps my friend:)
Great video Scott. Would it make sense to periodically alternate Purple Power with Megiuiar’s Wash Plus to minimize the need to clay bar as often? I understand it’s similar in that it also removes any waxes.
Does the Purple Power Heavy-Duty Vehicle and Boat Pressure Wash Concentrate require a power washer? Can you use it like regular carwash soap in bucket? Thanks!
very good question John...if i can guarantee myself that my car hasn't hit traffic film or driven in the rain since i CLEANED it last i may use a ph neutral soap that can't strip a wax or sealant..but if my car has hit rain or has traffic film on it all bets are off:)..i hope that makes sense..i always enjoy your comments:)
I agree with you 100%. Wax is a "sacrificial layer" of protection. Stripping it off is part of the cleaning process. Anyone who thinks they never have to strip-wash a car that has been waxed is missing the point of wax altogether...
Scott Great videos. Have learned a lot about the proper way of taking care of a cars finish. Thank you. My question is how to wash and wax in the winter. When temperatures are low. 50 degrees or colder. Thank you any information you can give me. Sonny
Question for you Scott. To get maximum gloss out of a customers car that they don't want any sort of paint correction would you use the fast finish in conjunction with a carnuba spray wax?
Scott, somewhat off topic but here goes. Here in MN, roughly 4 months out of the year I have to rely on auto washes. Lots of debate about touchless vs soft touch. Preference or neither? Sadly, wish I had more choices in winter! Thanks!
Scott, I love your wisdom and enthusiasm! This soap or the Meguiars wash plus soap with the polish in it? Why not take it a step further and need to clay even less often?
the surfactants within purple power vehicle wash is fine for all exterior plastic or rubber trim...like any car soap, don't allow it to dry on the vehicle and rinse fully after use..i hope that helps..and because all exterior plastics can do what we call VENTING which makes plastic turn white and often blamed on the sun, so its best to protect your plastics often and make it part of your routine maintenance on the vehicle...much love my friend
Dallas Paint Correction & Auto Detailing thanks for the info that helps a lot.as for fast finish in the can ive only seen in a bottle with some sort of sponge applicactor
Scott, I used the traffic film remover soap and did a claying which remove a lot of traffic film and bonded contaminants. I compounded the paint and my pad as you mentioned did have traffic film. So, my question is; can I reuse my pad on another car and will it contaminate the paint if I use the pad again? Yes I did wash the pad with the traffic film soap and a all purpose degreaser and the pad is still stained. And how do I remove the staining on the pad?
Scott, great video helps alot. question, so if I'd you'd purple power as a main car wash soap would it be safe to then use a like spray wax like Lucas Oil speed wax after each wash? Or would it be better to use a more detailed wax every now and then? basically I'm asking if that method would be good enough as a weekly wash?? would appreciate the response!!!!
What the heck do I do with the 2 cabinets full of useless crap I have for car detailing. And I dont dare add up the hundreds of wasted dollars I’ve spent. Thanks for the honestly Scott!

I love your work Scott im from Québec Canada and i have a pricelist like your video interior Price detailing and exterior price! I charge more and it’s your work I do at my shop ! Tank you so much I like all of your video ❤❤❤
Am thrilled I found this channel. I have always wondered about everything addressed in this video!
Ultimate fast finish says to apply in the shade. Is that what you do or do you have a different technique?
I can use this purple power with a bucket wash, right. I don't need the power washer and foam cannon.
New to your channel, not new to auto detailing, love your videos and knowledge. Thank you for sharing your experience.
I'm learning a lot from your videos. Thanks for all the uploads.
Thanks again for another honest and insightful video on car washes.
I have been led to the promised land! Thanks for the clarity Scott. It makes sense and is easy
Hey 👋 Scott were do I get purple power from the one you used on your customer ?
And how much of this do I put in the bucket?? You should show everyone step by step !! Great video !! You keep it real 👍🏼 thanks
Jay *** My local Walmart has it with the pressure washer accessories.
I've been thinking about that ever since I saw his 1st video which I LOVE them ALL.. !!!I'd like to see 1 COMPLETE PAINT CORRECTION VIDEO that shows every single step from Dirty Car to Protected finish I don't care if its a 2 hr. video..
Jay *** you can get it at the local Walmart Jay. Peace brother.👍
3 oz per gallon. 3 oz in foam cannon. & 10:1 for leather & plastics. He states this is previous videos about this whole PH thing.
Can you get purple Power in Canada
Scott your awesome, can i use the Ultimate Fast Finish every time i wash my car,
your video are awesome
Hi Scott,
I have been watching your videos and I started using the PP vehicle and boat about three weeks ago.
I wouldn't use Boat soap on a car unless it was an old Cadillac or an old Lincoln 😎
i had a Lincoln years ago and yes it was like driving a boat...i loved this comment and much love Steven:)
My van handles like a boat.
My ex gf handles like a boat!🏊🙃
Ah Umm unreliable and a money pit?
I'll take best RUclips comment I've ever seen for $500 Alex.
I told you Scott.. You are the best.. My regards from kingdom of Bahrain
much love my friend...blessings to Bahrain:)
Thnx for all you do to help
the industry and keep people informed!!!
Richard Johnson no, it’s diluted
@@melinasparks3268
Really!! It's diluted??
Thought you poured it straight out the bottle on your wash medium!!!!
I'm sure Scott knew what i meant.
I know he's a busy man so i should not have left the question hoping he would answer!!
I was referring to the diluted ppvb that he used in other videos as well.
Richard Johnson it’s formulated especially for vehicles and boats and it’s diluted with water. Obviously it’s not going to ruin the clear coat.
Ive been using meguiars gold class for years, but i just did my first paint correction and looks like ill be switching to purple power since i also like using the fast finish. Once again, thanks for all the great tips!
What's your update after all these years, do you still feel this is the best way to clean the car by using a pH10 soap?
Scott I love purple power what your doing. I just don't like that purple power does not foam. What do you think? Foam it using a ph neutral soap, full bucket with purple power and go over the foam with the purple power?
Mix purple power with a car soap that foams well like Adam's Mega Foam.
Excellent video
Thank you for sharing with us your knowledge about tfrs from your hard work
I have been looking for a tfr
Thank you sir.
what soap do u use now> i love using the purple power soap here. it works much better than everything else
I wonder if the more aggressive soaps remove ceramic coatings as well?
One of your best videos. Thank you
after it rains how many days of sun do you have until the purple boat wash cant remove the film? 7 days?
Does the Purple Power Heavy-Duty Vehicle and Boat Pressure Wash Concentrate require a power washer? Can you use it like regular carwash soap in bucket? Thanks!
No power washer required
Scott do you use this for every wash or rotate with a PH neutral soap on your daily driver?
very good question John...if i can guarantee myself that my car hasn't hit traffic film or driven in the rain since i CLEANED it last i may use a ph neutral soap that can't strip a wax or sealant..but if my car has hit rain or has traffic film on it all bets are off:)..i hope that makes sense..i always enjoy your comments:)
Wow that's great information.... Scott can I wash my car with purple power then clay then seal wax?? Is that the process? Thanx
I got 4 jugs of PP V&B Wash for < $7ea. that's cheap.
Thanks for the tip Scott.
I agree with you 100%. Wax is a "sacrificial layer" of protection. Stripping it off is part of the cleaning process. Anyone who thinks they never have to strip-wash a car that has been waxed is missing the point of wax altogether...
Scott
Great videos.
Would you recommend using Purple Power as a maintenance wash soap if it's diluted w/~50% water from how you use it for a full wash???
Scott, somewhat off topic but here goes. Here in MN, roughly 4 months out of the year I have to rely on auto washes. Lots of debate about touchless vs soft touch. Preference or neither? Sadly, wish I had more choices in winter! Thanks!
Scott, I love your wisdom and enthusiasm! This soap or the Meguiars wash plus soap with the polish in it? Why not take it a step further and need to clay even less often?
Also does the soap fade black plastics being higher ph levels?also is the fast wax ok on black plastics ?
the surfactants within purple power vehicle wash is fine for all exterior plastic or rubber trim...like any car soap, don't allow it to dry on the vehicle and rinse fully after use..i hope that helps..and because all exterior plastics can do what we call VENTING which makes plastic turn white and often blamed on the sun, so its best to protect your plastics often and make it part of your routine maintenance on the vehicle...much love my friend
You answered a lot of questions this time thank you
Scott, love your thinking. Could you use Duplicolor paint prep after a wash to remove traffic film.
Love your vids Scott! Thanks
Scott would kill it as a public speaker
What the heck do I do with the 2 cabinets full of useless crap I have for car detailing. And I dont dare add up the hundreds of wasted dollars I’ve spent. Thanks for the honestly Scott!
Hi Scott...do you still use purple power vehicle and boat wash every time you wash a car and if so do you dilute it and spray it on ? I saw this video years ago and just ran into it again.
Hi Scott, I can’t find the Ultimate Fast Finish in Australia for less than $50!!
yo what are you using instead of the purple power? cant find any
This is good stuff! Thanks Scott. Do you cut the Purple power? Or use it full strength. I didn't catch that.
He said 4 to 1
Distilled water to product
Great video Scott
I use purple power boat and car wash works awesome! But should I wash my car with it everytime i wash it? I wash my car twice per month.
Thanks. Question: is regular purple power as effective at removing wax and traffic film as the purple power vehicle and boat soap?
