  • Does your lower back hurt when you do yoga? Or do you have low back pain and you want to do yoga to help it? This video will teach you how to build more strength and stability in your low back and the rest of your spine using Cobra pose. However! Cobra pose tends to be a pose where many people feel low back pain.
    This lesson will teach you two important principles for healthy backbends and spinal extension so that you are supporting your spine rather than compressing it. You’ll learn how to apply these principles not just to Cobra pose but to all of your backbends so that your spine stays mobile, healthy and strong. No more back pain in yoga!

    I'm a Yoga teacher and appreciate the imagery of pointing the tailbone towards the heels to anchor the pelvis. It's a small adjustment that makes a big difference. I'll be teaching future classes with this cue. I also love the cue of lengthening the spine, rather than bending it. Thanks for your insights!

      Those are my favourite- small adjustments that make a big difference. I'm glad this resonated with you and inspired your classes!

      Yes, I hear you! It's sadly not that common to have this applied anatomy knowledge for yoga poses. I'm glad this helped you!

    I tried this twice. I guess I'm gonna have to kept working at it to release the pain in my lower back. Thank you for sharing this informative video.

    So 1st off thanks for the video I always feel pain in my legs after cobra pose because I’m guessing It’s from my lower back. I’ve always use cobra to stretch my deep core muscles. Can you recommend other yoga poses for abdominal stretcheing?

    This is such important work for me! Its difficult for me to get any anchoring in the pubic symphsis - my ASIS however are grinding into the floor without even coming up into cobra! I tend toward an anterior pelvic tilt so practicing being prone with a neutral pelvis (and then maybe a baby cobra) is very big and helpful work. I appreciate this video!

    Hi
    I have question
    What is shoulder is doing in cobra is it internal rotation of external rotation. And if we using external rotation all we do is sretching the front and give morr pressure to rotator cuff muscles. That is ok or we should opt for internal rotation with rolling the shoulder down

    F*ck. I thought that the goal of cobra was to stretch the ab muscles out, meaning that the intention was precisely to bend the back backwards as much as possible. Meanwhile, I'm wondering why my lower back feels pain during this. Ignorance is not bliss, in this case. Thank you for this video. I found it googling "lower back pain in cobra pose".

      @HeartBonesYogaAnatomyMobility  5 месяцев назад +2

      Right? That's generally what we're taught about cobra pose but at the expense of the lower back. Glad this made a difference for you. The same principles in this class can be applied to all backbends as well.

      @@HeartBonesYogaAnatomyMobility I understand. Using the word "elongating" hits the nail on the head. It is a beautiful practice, that you are engaged in. Namaste.

    Are we not supposed to keep our feet together ??

    • @HeartBonesYogaAnatomyMobility
      @HeartBonesYogaAnatomyMobility  2 года назад +2

      No, you don't have to keep your feet together. In fact, many people find it more comfortable to keep their feet pelvis width apart. The feet in this pose generally should be gently pressing down through the tops of the feet rather than trying to keep them or squeeze them together.
