- Lure fishing a river and a canal with a ridiculously cheap and ridiculously awful setup. Ended things with a surprise catch which made the trip one to remember! This package included a rod, reel, line, spinner, float and hooks for the very modest price of just £5.99. Spent a while searching around on the internet and could't find anything cheaper! If you are aware of one that costs less let me know I'd love to try it out.
If you enjoy the video please don't forget to like and subscribe, it really helps the channel out and I appreciate each and every one of you that do! Drop a comment and I'll be sure to get back to you 🎣👍.
Ha Ha Ha what a laugh my missus bought something similar years ago from Lidl I think, I found it the other week in the shed and when I went to see if it worked the reel fell apart, it was completely plastic and just went brittle and collapsed. I now use the rod for loading line on all my other reels it works a treat. Fair do's George catching anything above a stickleback on that setup is a major achievement well done mate I was laughing me head off you are officially bonkers mate, never change, the channel is ace.
Thanks for the kind words mate I really appreciate it! Yeah the reel was a load of junk really started to pack in when that pike took the spinner. Fully thought it was about a 4 pounder 😂
🤣🤣🤣 love it George !!! You should team it up with ya crocs !!! Now that would be a set up !!! Well done buddy and all the best 😀😀👍🏽👍🏽🎣🎣
Haha thanks mate! I’d never combine the crocs with the £5.99 rod combo, it would be unfair on the fish I’d have to at least give them half a chance! 😂 glad you enjoyed the video
Another class video there - so many happy memories with my sports direct rod, fishing in harbours on holiday 😂
Thanks mate glad you enjoyed it!
I bought the exact same rod and the reel broken when I dropped it by accident if you want a decent rod then get one from home bargains £9.99 if had the same rod for 7 years and not one thinks when wrong with it one of the best rods I've had experience with
It's an awful reel isn't it 😂 Just used it out of curiosity mostly! Maybe i'll do a video on the home bargains one too, thanks for the suggestion
Gotta hold my hands up, I have a 5' children's rod, bought from Aldi a few years ago. Made by Fladen. I still give it an outing now and then!
I'd say this rod has definitely gained a bit of sentimental value, will probably give it another go at some point!
@Mark Finlay: One of the few things I would have against that rod is its' length. I prefer longer rods, especially ones that break into 2 - 3 sections. The ones that break down into 2+ sections are great to break down and store in a car.
My lad saw these rods in Sports Direct. Glad we got him a 3M Whip instead! He's now progressing up to his first 'proper' rod!
I'm glad you didn't go for this too, seriously questionable bit of kit!
My son has been catching carp with the 22 quid Matt Hayes frog rod from argos. Feeder on the end, he can cast it half way down the lake. Couple of feeding shots with the catapult and he’s reeled some decent carp in. He’s 8 and he loves it now. I think he’d enjoy some lure fishing, lots of action.
I've not actually seen those rods before i'll have to have a look. I think he would definitely enjoy lure fishing
Brillant concept and great video, the one thing that makes me freakin furious is with these cheap Fishing set's is that they always include at least one spinner but no wire trace.
These sets are there to temp people to start up the sport which is great, whats not so great is that you have to tie the spinner direct to the very weak line and you are able to temp Fish well into double figures to take something that clearly cannot handle it and potentialy kill it.
True! I imagine they aren't sold with the intention of catching pike. More trout and perch, still it doesn't help. I know i wasn't expecting a pike on it at all! If it's any consolation, i found the line to be a lot stronger than i expected. Maybe somewhere around the 12/15lb point, i agree there shoould be a wire trace though or at least a warning that it isnt appropriate in places where pike are a likely catch
Started watching your channel few weeks ago because taking up fishing again, and brilliant channel and worth a sub
Keep up the good work mate
Thanks mate I appreciate that! Glad you’re getting into it, it’s a fantastic sport 🎣
Had a similar problem with an old split cane rod I bought, for €2, in a kringloop (charity shop) in t'Netherlands. 6' rod, if that, and I hook a three foot Snoek (pike)! Luckily, for the fish and me, it got off. That'll learn me to be prepared when spinning for perch!
Bet it was good fun though!
Crackin video George quality entertainment and sick challenge!
Glad you enjoyed it mate and thanks for the comment!
I bought it today it's not bad I just need to change the reel and line
Yeah the reels are awful!
I'm collecting some stuff from sports direct tomorrow. I spent over 100 quid to get a 5 quid voucher when picking in store. Might use it on this if it's still a similar price lol
Haha don’t waste your voucher mate! It’s not a great bit of kit whatsoever
@@adventurefishinguk lol fair enough. I haven't used it yet but they sell some spinners for 5 or 6 quid depending on size. Decisiona, decisions lol
@@UnseenSpirit spinners are probably a better shout I’d say
I use the axact rod the reel was bad so I put a decent one on and just use it for float fishing
Yeah definitely the worst bit of fishing kit i've ever used!
The Reel sounds like a Brken chained moped. But he’s got a decent Jack pike . Lovely. I took an ARGOS telescopic rod reel line a few spinners £9:99p. Took it to Thailand. The Thais loved it because it could fold up into a tiny Bag. I caught a sea bass off the back of the boat we traveled on from Ko phangean to Ko Tao . Big one about 6lb from the back of the boat. The Thais. Loved it. The tip broke but I still landed a good fish. They helped tape up the end of the Rod. And we caught a Nice sized LIKE A GIANT MACKEREL about 16in long. After the Boat trip the hall wanted to my little telescopic Rod. For equivalence 4 times the ARGOS UK price. Lol. I kept it. We all had Thai fish curry. ( a bit BONEY ) lol. Honestly. Cheapo suitcase rods. Reels and I had a great time. And gave the £8 equiv rod reel away. They loved me. Loved it. It was a generic telescopic rod reel line and spinners great fun
An awful sounding reel isn’t it 😂 great story by the way, throughly enjoyed reading it! Thanks for watching
"What a time to be alive" 😂😂😂
😂 Hope you enjoyed the video Mark!
@@adventurefishinguk I love all your videos George. Nice blend of proper fishing and the unexpected!
@@markfinlay725 Thank you I appreciate that a lot!
Great video bro💯👊🧙♂️
Thanks man glad you enjoyed it 🧙🏿♀️
Well mate I would love to see you float fish for perch and roach Rudd whatever I think it would be cool and could wrap out a video ho to begin fishing
There are plenty of roach in my local canal it's been something I've wanted to do for a while. Float rigs tend to confuse me a bit 😂 what would you say the simplest way to rig one is?
@@adventurefishinguk pretty easy one is put your float on put 2 split shots top and end of the float and side 14 or 12 hook and maggots
LMAO it might not be the best rod in the world but it gave you £5:99 worth of fun .. you have to give it a go on a decent size fish now mate see how it doe's
have fun tight lines dude
Thanks mate! Yeah I definitely had my money’s worth out of it 😂 think if that pike was any bigger it would’ve really struggled haha
What a great idea for a video. 😁
Thanks Mike I'm glad you enjoyed it!
In fact I'm going to try the same thing myself on a small local river.
Looking forward to it.
Nice 1 👌👌👍
Thanks man!
Yes George Asif that clunking reel help up to the task great video though
Thanks mate! Yeah it got the job done in the end, definitely wasn't easy though
The lure must be more expensive than the rest of the gear combined!!
The lure was included in the bundle mate! So surprising that the full combination actually worked, very pleased with it's performance though! Just goes to show its not all about expensive gear
@@adventurefishinguk Awesome man!!
Jesus Christ that sort of kit just shouldn't exist - yes it opens up the sport for newbies, and yes you can catch fish on it, but you can't tell me that's lasting more than a few sessions. The reel already sounds like death itself!
Haha I agree it's a poor excuse of a fishing set up. Reel was already on its way out as soon as I opened the packet
Open the reel and add some grease. If its like the one we have its got none.
Definitely sounded like it could've done with some 😂
Result! 👏🏻
👍🎣
Great video mate! New sponsorship coming with sports direct?
Haha fingers crossed
Hi, what bait did you use on the hooks? I was really interested
Just a spinner I think mate!
Hi ! What license do you have for fishing? 😊
It just needs a bit of oil!!... And a big hammer.
😂 definitely didn't have a trip left in it
Mint
Thanks mate!
I love your pike😊
Thank you!
@@adventurefishinguk your the best pike fisherman
I think I prefer my cheap 3 meter whip from Decathlon , that reel sounds nasty 😂
But of course the whip would only serve to catch small fish .
Edit: I bought the whip a few years ago for 3€, it came with line , float , split shot and hook .
I’ve seen they now sell similar stuff for @7/8€.
Haha that sounds like a proper budget set up! The reel sounds awful doesn’t it, definitely the worst I’ve ever used!
Good piece of kit
Definitely good value at 5.99 that's for sure
our boat winch is quieter than that reel.
😂😂 I don’t doubt it
I buzz of using cheap gear because it has nothing to do with being a good angler
I like it too, not quite this extreme though! I don't think I even own a rod combo that costs more than £100. Thanks for the comment!
😂imagine you hit a big pike
Would’ve been a nightmare 😂
Jesus loves you❤️✝️
