That battle with the Barbel was epic, had my heart in my mouth when you noticed the line getting shredded, Had to fistpump the air when you finally had it on the bank, was well happy for you. Just to say my 14 year old son also is a big fan. Your videos help teach its skill and perseverance that catch fish, not exspensive tackle and overpriced baits. We have both emulated your tactics on the local streams , keeps mobile, uses tiny spinners and drop shooting to catch anything that swims. So much more fun than sitting behind bite alarms in a man made pond
Your smile says it all. Fishing need not be expensive or complicated. My wife has just bought me one of these rods and cant wait to use it. Have used a whip bought from Aliexpress for £6 and caught Rudd to 2 pounds as well as big perch and even a small Carp. I sit around a club water with blokes with thousands of pounds of gear and they don't seem to catch as much. Thank you for posting its a smashing video and nice to see the joy of Angling
Been stuck at the house this past month or so.(back pain issues) Been watching and living through your vids, thanks for doing what you do. You RUclips guys are stopping me from going too mental on pain meds! lol
Love it! Forget about spending thousands on over priced super tackle, forget about over stocked commercial ponds and lakes,..keep it simple and have fun! Love the forgotten streams, rivers and canals! Subscribed!👍
Brilliant Chris. I was cringing for most of it but glad that barbel got landed. Why not (with normal rod set up) just turn up on the bank and forage for baits and do a show! That would be brilliant!😉👍
I am not sure how i missed watching this totally brilliant video until now! I do feel like an even worse angler than before Chris so thanks for that because if you can catch Chub & Barbel on gear and bait like that jesus mate! What an amazing effort ...that's a Drennan Weekly Cup winner for me!!
Superb session Chris ! I wish things went like that for me when I have a day filled with mishaps !! Love it ! 'Things work out for the best for those who make the best of the way things work out!'
I love you caught those fish using natural bait, i.e. things that fall in the water regularly so the fish are used to eating them. Love your vids, pls keep it up!
It's a good job you filmed this. Cos if anyone tried to tell me the story of this fishing session I'd laugh them out of the room. 🤣 Brilliant, thank you for sharing mate. 👍
Cracking session given the Heath Robinson kit!, the boy done good!!!, quick cheap fix Chris get an old inner tube cut two pieces off that will go around reel seat and rod get two small jubilee clips put them over tighten em up don't go mad, snip off any excess couple of turns of electricians tape, job done rod and reel ready and together. Really enjoyed this one buddy. Any loose fixings on rod drop of superglue. Take care. Tony
The ginger fisherman shows you ways of fishing you’ve never seen before, I can’t even catch a barbel on pro setups, this guy has weak split line a weak ass pen rod the fkin reel is falling off 😂 and he catches a barbel 😂 the content in this video is just immense
Actually not that hard to get barbel on lures in such waters. Around April to May I get them regularly on small hardbaits and softplastics in my river. Sometimes even sight casting.
Just bought one of these,at a carboot sale, along with two other mini rods for £6. Thanks for the inspiration and finding out on my behalf that the reel seat doesnt fit a regular reel. I think the two other rods are for Ice fishing but no idea what they would be doing at Lebberston carboot.
Cool video even though I could only understand half the audio. Was fun watching the fish being caught. I bought a few higher end pen rods to work into my camping packs. Been fishing for almost 30 years and the potential of those pen rods, with the right line, and a couple upgraded reels on two of them, is absolutely astounding. I'm impressed every time I use them. Biggest I cought on a pen rod so far is a Striper Bass about 7.3lbs. so much fun.
If I saw a man with crocs, wet shorts with broken zipper, digging holes to catch worms and then stick them into his pockets, with cheap pen rod with "modified" reel to fit... I would have questions.
Great video Chris and the fish were awesome, the sound was awful half way through , dump the Crocs .😂😂😂😂😂😂. Stay safe mate all the best from Downunder 👍
Another good session, bet your glad you didn't give up at the first hurdle Chris, your perseverance paid off in the end. Good video, shame the sound quality wasn't up to your usual, loves the foraging for baits near the end, that would make a great session in itself for another time. P.s. when the next forgotten pond session???
I have one of these myself and I was thinking how the hell did he get his reel to fit the rod? I cut the sides down.. it fell off, I Cable tied it on, the cable ties slipped.. it fell off. After loosing my patience with it I went back to the original crappy reel. I used a tiny ledger setup. I caught perch, bream and a jack pike. Anything on these rods feels like a monster. Great fun!
Why didn't You run some line off. And wrap In around the reel to hold it On. That's what I would have done. I did this In our river at the Shallow bit that looks like this river. And I turned around, and there was Pike of about 30lb sitting right behind me. and You thought Jesus was the only one to walk on water. That Is the Beauty of the Autumn. lots of natural Bait everywhere. Never thought You were going to get that Barbel In, they are bad enough on proper kit. Nice one, great session.
I was splitting my sides laughing. Brilliant improvisation to catch some stunning fish. I hope you do your own washing though because blackberries and worms straight in the pocket sound like a recipe for divorce!! I had fun with one of those things too. I was actually trying to catch carp on one. You do need a tiny reel stem to fit inside the collars on the reel set. I think I hand to secure my reel with masking tape. But yeah the eyes are unlined, just chromed metal and you can’t get much use before they act like line cutters. Shame because the actual glass fibre in the rod is quite tough and you can apply some force with it as you found out with the barbel. Not much point in a dirt cheap rod if it trashes metres of line every time you use it. I somehow managed to land a carp on mine before one of the reel collars split, I could hardly land it for laughing so much. You should have tried the original reel. It’s like it’s made from jelly, everything bends, the reel stem, the body. At any second the bail arm could jump pop off. That adds to the excitement. But it is kinda a single use thing. You will have to show us how you tie those little jig lures, they worked great. With all the Otters about it’s nice to see you can still rove, fish light and catch from open waters and hidden unfenced ponds. Love it.
Was going to say the same. When i was a kid i watched McGuyver. Since then i always carry a piece of duct-tape and a paperclip with me... you never know when you might need it🤣🤓
Love the dedicated butchery on the poor abu. Quality mate Keep it up, my heart was in my throat when you hooked that barble! Edit... I always carry a small roll of gorilla tape with me. Believe it or not, once my penn 525 multi came off my kompressor beach caster cos the coasters snapped. Bit G tape, boom landing double figure rays and the reel was more solid than before. Sorry had to share that useless bit of info 😅
I Got Two Of Those Rods For The Grand Kids And I Had To Use Zip Ties For The Rods They Are Good Fun To Kill A Couple Of Hours When I'm Board Don't Pull them Too Far Out And You're Fine LOL We Are Like Big Kids Sometimes
Used them pen rods meself, they're funny. The second you said "I've decided to bring a different reel" I knew it wouldn't fit. The pen rod reels are shit but if you just swap out the line you can make do.

That's what I like you use your experiance and knowledge and catch great fish without all the mod cons, keep up the good work.
Amazing👏👏👏
I really did think the line or the rod would snap before you landed that barble.
A fine bit of fishing, credit to you!!!🎣😎
Rod is good
Love it! Forget about spending thousands on over priced super tackle, forget about over stocked commercial ponds and lakes,..keep it simple and have fun! Love the forgotten streams, rivers and canals! Subscribed!👍

Agree with that 100%

Brilliant vid as always. Join us next week, when Chris catches a Sturgeon using a crab line 😄
I caught a 12lb Conger on a Crab line, off Weston Super Mare Pier when I was a kid.
@@nodiggity9472 that's so cool!!
Superb session Chris ! I wish things went like that for me when I have a day filled with mishaps !! Love it !
'Things work out for the best for those who make the best of the way things work out!'
A most extraordinary fishing video. Blackberry bait catching chunky chub and that barble at the end as the rod was falling apart was epic.
This lake is incredible, your fishing was very good, with beautiful fish, CONGRATULATIONS you are a great fisherman.
Hug!!!👍🎣😉
My wife has just said you are flying low
Mate. Not all Superheroes wear capes. You sir are frickin awesome 👏
Crackin video.... even our lass laughed when ya reel fell off 😂😂... well done yet again buddy 🎣🎣👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

Brilliant, thank you for sharing mate. 👍
The reel flying off killed me! Deffo had this happen far too many times! Thanks for making lockdown bearable!
Possibly the funniest fishing video I have ever watched 😂😂😂
Chris totally unreal bud, just goes to show it's the angler and his skills that catch the fish and not ££££ of gear he uses.
Keep em coming 👍🎣
Spot on Adrian. I can’t do that little jig flicking technique, that’s what gets so many bites, not the gear!!
Brilliant, I don’t know how you do it but you do, well done and great video 👏👏👏👏👍👍
Mate them rods are brilliant me and my dad take them everywhere even caught barbel on it
We’re do u buy them
@@fraserwood8327 eBay or amazon
That was a great session! Let's see... what ELSE can go wrong! Way to persevere!!
Holy ..., Awesome video. Enjoyed every moment
Thanks for sharing
Now is the best time to catch sea trout and salmon. The season is not long over, and you are fishing for barbel and chub.
Nice film.

I doubt he packed inner tube, electrical tape and jubilee clips mate lol
@@dannyboy7386 lol for when he gets home!
Absolutely brilliant Chris.
Goes to show you don't need to be a tackle tart to have fun and catch fish.
Whatever next ?
Tackle tart! 🤣🤣

Dito yo
The waters you fish ain’t no good then bruva
Reel is to big. There'll foot broken.
Actually not that hard to get barbel on lures in such waters. Around April to May I get them regularly on small hardbaits and softplastics in my river. Sometimes even sight casting.
It’s definitely all about the waters you have near you
I think I actually stopped breathing while you were playing that barbel. 😂
That is an awesome spot. The waters here are similar to where you are. I think I may try a fly and see how it does.

Great video, love this sort of fishing on streams and small rivers.
This place looks so refreshing and those water soo clear.
Literally SCREAMING at you to tie that reel on all video
Wow increcible, fantastic job mate, well done loved this, hey nearly spilt my coffee, tight lines.
I have 2 pen rods, I've caught pike to 4 - 6lb on them, some perch as well using small lime green lures.
Fantastic video natural baits are my favourite and hand dig those worms awesome 👌
An essential piece of kit for those emergency repairs and lash ups - a roll of PVC adhesive tape. Weighs nothing and takes up no space.
From the reviews of these I thought even a neon tetra could break the rod but if you could pick up the fish that you did then they can’t be bad
Cool video even though I could only understand half the audio. Was fun watching the fish being caught. I bought a few higher end pen rods to work into my camping packs. All credit to you for experimenting Chris. Well done mate.
Never thought berries were so irrisistable to the chub. Then a great barbel on the pen rod testing you to the limits. I was buzzing watching this lol
That chalk stream looks amazing
Great catch, and what a awesome drill, good job mate 👍👍
If I saw a man with crocs, wet shorts with broken zipper, digging holes to catch worms and then stick them into his pockets, with cheap pen rod with "modified" reel to fit... I would have questions.
Fking hilarious when that reel went straight in, great video as usual though 😊.
Great video Chris and the fish were awesome, the sound was awful half way through , dump the Crocs .😂😂😂😂😂😂. Stay safe mate all the best from Downunder 👍
That river has to be one of the most productive in England.
Note to Chris, Pack some cable ties, they fix anything. Fantastic result tho' top marks
I love your video's 👍🏻👍🏻
Very nice👍🏻👍🏻
Very enjoyable, proper fishing
Carry on fishing 😂
Top class video
What a legend ...... proper bear grills fishing awesome 👏
Great video and great drill of the barbel!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, wonderful fish complimnts from Italy!
Very happy with this rod. Throws a 3 or 4 ounce sinker and rig easily for my surf perch fishing
How many times did you watched that broken zipper? 🤣😬
100 yards of line in your hand and you couldn't spare 3ft to lash the reel to the rod 😜
I’ve had sessions that have started like this and without the pen rod and reel that don’t fit! So we’ll done for your patience 👍
Another good session, bet your glad you didn't give up at the first hurdle Chris, your perseverance paid off in the end. Good video, shame the sound quality wasn't up to your usual, loves the foraging for baits near the end, that would make a great session in itself for another time.

Good days fishing, I should make another fishing video on my next trip. Tight lines lol
Well done! Overcoming adversity. And you’ll never forget that barbel!
Impressive stuff mate
Pen rod manafacturers are furiously trying to fufill 30,000+ new orders! 😂😂😂
Mate, that was mint! Take a bow Son! :)

Great catch. Its days like this that keeps us going.
Well done lovely Barble
That was well and truelly amazing !! Awesome barbel on such a joke of a rod , Who says you need top tackle to catch big fish .
Great Catch !

Cracking video and just a thought maybe you should of used some line to tie the reel on
I taped all my reels with electrical tape to prevent movements. Some are permanent lock with heat shrink handle
Mine came with a rubbish multipyer reel which doesn't cast, so will be buying a better mini reel when I next visit the tackle shop.
wow this barble is just freakin amazing wtf
Should of tied the reel on with some fishing line. Still a banging vid showing all the paid anglers up. Well done pal
Cool river Bro!))))
Are these the Aluminium pen rods? Also what length did you buy? Thanks for the great videos, love them!!
Against all odds... That looked like fun, still.
Don't suppose you have any videos on how to make micro fly jigs?
I was splitting my sides laughing. Brilliant improvisation to catch some stunning fish. Haha my record in the wild is 128fishes in 6hours 🤣
Bravo my friend Bravo very well done
Great play
Well done!
i was fishing the severn last week for 4 days camping, crap just bits and eels at night, stourport
"Not a bad fish for this tiny little pen rod" proceeds to land a barbel on it
You must go pike fishing with it! But really awesome video!
tips : use cable ties for reel seat..when you have bigger reel
Blackberries. Who'd of thought? 😳
Used them pen rods meself, they're funny. The second you said "I've decided to bring a different reel" I knew it wouldn't fit. The pen rod reels are shit but if you just swap out the line you can make do.
Yeah. No way a universal seat configuration would be used on a pen rod lol
Also, what kind of line is that? is it mono below 10LB?? or was it braid line?
Chris, have you already done a video of the jigfly
I from poland and i dont understand anything bat i like your chanel
To keep your reel on use 2 jubilee clips works great just make sure you have a Screwdriver with you lol
You should have ultimate handymans item, "" DUCT TAPE" that will help you out mate.
Well that's sold me that rod catching a barbell
