- In this Part 1 of our Alvord Desert Adventure, we make our way to this beautiful 12x6 mile dried up lake bed to camp for a couple days during Memorial Day Weekend. We cook some amazing meals, drink some good beers, put up with those annoying mosquitos, explore all sides of the lake, gazed at the amazing landscapes and enjoy being out in such a beautiful part of Southeast Oregon.

That area is gorgeous! How long was the drive? Don't know if snow on the roads or hella mosquitoes are worse 😆
From Bend, it was 4 hours, amazing, beautiful drive!! To be honest, they both suck, Lol. But mosquitos can crawl back into the he** hole they came from!! Hahaha!! 🤣
Were there as many mosquitoes in the middle of the lake bed at your 2nd camp?
Maybe a little less, but they were there too. The wind helps keep them away.
I've spent many many nights out in the SE Oregon desert including the Alvord Lake Bed. One thing for sure is that skeeters like dark colors. My truck is white and I wear light weight light colored long sleeve and pants. Never had issues with skeeters, like my friends with darker clothes and vehicles/tents.
