- The Alford Desert is a massive expanse of a dry lake bed in South East Oregon. If you want to find solitude in your 4x4 Sprinter van this is the place. It's quiet, peaceful and flat as a pancake sitting right underneath the Steens Mountains making for a very dramatic place to explore in your Winnebago Revel. It also features dazzling displays of stars on a clear dark night. This area shouldn't be overlooked for any overland expedition through the Pacific Northwest. It's a contrast to the huge trees and rainforests normally envisioned of Oregon.
This is part of the Southbound series where Peter and Kathy are driving the Pan-American from Dead Horse/Prudehoe Bay, Alaska to Ushuaia, Argentina at the very bottom of South America. This will be a 18 month roadtrip of a lifetime.

good on you to shame the litterbugs!
Yes! Love the Alvord playa. I'd say 'don't tell anyone' but one really has to make an effort to get out there. And it's worth the effort to enjoy a milkshake at fields Station.
I'm sill bummed with my choice of DEF over a milkshake at Fields Station... I have to go back just for that alone.
Love the Alvord playa area. We discover something new every time we go.
Me too! I can't wait to return. Thanks for watching!
Epic content thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it
My brother lives on the on the Oregon coast but I’d love to visit that area.
The Oregon coast is like a whole different world. I think the diversity of Oregon is what blows me away most. It's really special. When is your next trip out to see him? You should defiantly add a few days or a week to explore the east side of Oregon.
Love your very creative drone footage from all the different angles! Really brings life to the videos, to the surroundings, and the exploration. Great job! I just bought a DJI drone and have yet to learn how to fly it but want to do a lot of photography similar to yours. Any suggestions on web sites or videos providing drone tips for outdoor adventure flying and shots?
Thank you very much! I'm a self taught drone pilot. The most important part is just flying a lot in low stress/consequences locations. Just play with it and have fun. All the while try to imagine different perspectives your drone can provide.
Looks amazing! I hope to see it someday!
The kids clean up after litterbugs all the time. It’s so sad.
Can travelers bring their dog?
Thanks Hannah! Yes, as far as I know dogs are welcome.
I couldn't help but notice your Revel, Nice! Which rear bike/ tire/ box carrier do you have?
Hi, it's the Agile Offroad rear time carrier and the Owl B2 with the expedition Box and 1UP bike rack. I love this combo.
I want a Revel. I want a Revel. I want a Revel!!!! Have to sell my house first. I visited the Steens several times but never the dry lake bed on the east side. Must do. Just a little🧓🐕 old lady and her Schnauzer girl.
I hope you get your Revel and take it on the trip to the Alvord Desert. I think Schnauzer girl will like it too. I traded my house for my Revel. I feel like I made a wonderful decision... Thanks for watching!
