Rob, just fantastic. I was in a band 40 years ago in East Boston, MA, and this was our signature song. No one could play it like us. One of our lead singers could sing it just like Jim Morrison. I sent this link to our surviving band members and they all loved it. Brought joy and tears to their eyes. Thanks for the nostalgia.
Only about 3% of keyboardists can play this song correctly because the chords are so complex. And to play the baseline, A-C-E-B-D-F#, over and over again with your left hand makes it even harder.
yeh...no. Your average pub musician might have difficulty, but most trained musicians should have no trouble with it. Composing the song and coming up with the solo as the Doors did, then yes, genius!
@@calatria2949i never understood how people have trouble with coming up with solos like back in highschool me and my mates would just smoke pot then hum a “solo” in the songs scale then convert it into real life like its literally not that difficult you have to be a grade A retard if you cant come up with a solo
You make it look easy, the way your fingers move so smoothly from one note to the next. I just know that if I tried to play it, I'd soon make it look impossible to play at all, let alone well. Beautifully done, friend :)
Superb. I've never understood how they make it so easy to play such a complicated instrument. I look at his two hands executing those piano chords, and I'm in complete awe.
wow, this sounds very accurate. I absolutely love rock songs with organ. I think organ and synthesizer belong in rock music, and sadly, so called modern rock rejected them for the most part. So we are left with rock with minimal textures that sounds totally uncreative. Last time I remember liking a modern rock song was something from Jack White. Anyway, thanks for this enjoyable video. I own the Motif XF which I use to make my own music with and is my centerpiece of my setup ( I have to sequence my music because I can't play live well enough, and because I usually have 6+ tracks.) It's a total champ of a synth, and makes it so easy to drive my Prophet 12, Access Virus and Waldorf Blofeld.) It's pattern sequencer is so flexible. The new Montage is not a replacement for the Motif due to the lack of the pattern sequencer ( sorry, am rambling and off topic I imagine :)
Try going on Riffstation.com to learn and play along . I spend hours on Riffstation, playing along. They provide the video clips [which you can find on RUclips] and chords and we can do with it as we like.........We don't need sheet music for this. That will be good for ear-training. It's much better to develop your ear. You will thus most likely to discover you wonderfull talents.........
There might be a computer program that Rob on the Keys could connect to his organ that could produce a written score of what he plays. If so, Rob on the Keys could be paid much money by selling the score to organists who want to learn the organ part in "Light My Fire" who can read music!
he visto a otros pianistas interpretando este tema , pero a ti es al que mas claro veo los cambios , a ver si así me puede empezar a sonar, gracias , un saludo
Good job! I can get all the organ lead until the background when the lead guitar is doing his lead. Can't hear everything that is going on with the organ. How did you manage to hear everything?
Great and awesome tutorial. I've wanted to play this since I was 13 and now my band is going for it. I am a guitarist primarily and fake keyboardist, but your video has pushed me into taking this on. Again, my thanks. Steve
JESUS! I have to agree with just about everyone on here. Un fricking believable! I would fricking give anything to be able to do what you do man! Awesome job!!
This is excellent! I have tried to learn this song for a while now. This video is great because the organ is louder therefore I can hear it better and the view of the camera is great because I can see the keys. This is awesome man. Keep up the good work! :)
That was so great. Thanks. I've seen Ray Manzarek perform this a few times but he never does it the same any time. It's all improvised on the spot I guess, or he just likes to see how he can change it up each time to keep it interesting for himself. Playing it the exact same way for forty some years would really get to be a drag. Hard to believe but some of his performances are an improvement over the original recording.
Hey Rob! I just LOVE the job you did on this number! You are very inspiring, what a difficult and long song to transition through. Truly amazing and keep up the good work. We want to see you now! Makes me want to get my keyboard out right now and get busy!
Really amazing ! I just got back from a cover band of The Doors but i gotta admit, as i'm watching this it's like i'm watching Manzarek playing ... Excellent work, continue.
It's crazy watching the fingers move and the span of some of the chords and playing bass line with other hand ray manzarek was a fantastic musician I think live Ray and John were the most consistent Nice work mate
I'm not a keyboard player but this is the one of two tunes i've ever tried to learn. Your performance of this is dead on and I'm going to use it to correct my mistakes. Thanks for posting this. 5*
rob, your a star ...ive been trying to figure out whats going on keys wise underneath the guitar solo and youve nailed it !! from one player to another THANKYOU ...John
Dude, I have always liked this song, but I never knew how complicated the ketboard stuff was until I saw this video, great job and it sounded spot on ;)
BRILLIANT! Well done Rob, you're a talented player! And THANK YOU for publishing this, I've been trying to work the intro out on my own for months (off & on)!! Should have come to YT sooner. Even with 12 years of piano lessons behind me I still prefer to watch someone who knows how already. So congrats again and thank you for this inspiration, you're a star!! :)
Fantastic work man!!! You opened my eyes and made me realize that when I played this song 3 years ago I just played half of the awesomeness you unveiled here!! :) So much to learn! Need to get back to it! Awesome stuff!! God bless :)
I just watched a tutorial on this minutes ago and found this video... the tutorial I found was really good and all, but this is amazing- not only played perfectly, but exactly the song.
Great job rob ! I have never heard anyone play it EXACTLY like ray did but you're very close the only place I think people lose it is where robbies playing the guitar and ray is now in the background with rythym but these are only subtle differences AGAIN GREAT JOB rob and thanks Ive learned by watching you
You know... I would really love an Mp3 of this version. I find myself listening to this way more than the original. It has way more character than the actual keyboard used.
Rob, your work is fantastic, I've learned alot from your videos. I was wondering if we could get you to do a video of "I Can't See Your Face in My Mind". Thanks for adding the "How to" for Vox Continental sound. When the Music's Over is great as well.
You have a sensational cadence, this song is an icon in rock, and I see that you interpret it in a masterly way. You can see the hours and hours of rehearsal in your execution ... In good time, congratulations !!!
REALLY IMPRESSIVE! :|....the organ seems to be very very very very similar to the "light my fire"'s one....fantastic...but where did ya downloaded it? answer plz ^_^
Thanks for the reply. Hope I didn't sound harsh when I said 'I call BS' on you being self taught, after I read it again it seems harsh but I centainly didn't mean it to be. I'm just amazed by your playing...It really is awesome, I could listen to it all day. Once again thank you for answering my question and please keep posting new vids. Your new fan, Steve
Superb playing there! I am about to upload a 'Light My Fire' cover, and was wondering what notes you are playing in the left hand in the main verse (Am)sections? Its kinda hard to follow your left hand here thats all!
What I meant by "self-taught" is that I have never taken any formal lessons or read any sheet music etc.. everything I have learned is from a combination of watching other people play, and figuring out bits by ear. Some of the fingering that I use was learned from watching video performances, and the rest of it I came up with myself. I think it's pretty good because it works well for me, its not perfect though!
Nice job!! Do you happen to have a transcription of it? Am trying to learn it myself, but I'm more of a sheet-music-guy, and I can't really find it anywhere on the web..
Really awesome cover!!!! im about to learn this song and just looking at you... damn it its a hard song, almost the 85% of it is a giant solo. How long did it took you to learn the whole song?
Brilliant work, Rob. I'm learning this song for my (non-commercial, just-for-fun) band and have all the organ part down now except the backing fills during the guitar solo, which aren't published in the sheet music editions of the song. I see in the comments lots of people asking you for sheet music but also see your note that you don't read music. If you send me a midi file of your performance, I'd be happy to create sheet music of it for you (not too hard with the right notation software).
You must learn both parts individually, and practice them until you're rock solid and can't go wrong. Try playing the Right hand part along with the song while listening closely to what the bass part is playing and focus on that. Then do the same with the left hand part. Also try playing one part while humming or singing the notes for the other part. eventually, you can slowly start putting the two parts together a few notes at a time and soon you will get the feel for the song. Hope this helps!
@@coolramone Hey, I used Vox samples that I bought online. You could get a similar result but using the voice called Tiny Combo Bars 1 and playing with the EQ. Try cranking up the Mid EQ and then playing with the Mid Freq. A small bit of reverb also

Ray Manzarek is a genius.... How the hell did he compose the solo.....
Better than any guitar solo in any song in the world.
Jim composed the solo
I think he just played what sounded good to him
