    Just wanna clarify as I recently changed the timing belt on the Aristo vvti swap on my NA supra. You can still use the dots on the cams but make sure you line them up with the yellow (first mark as turning crankshaft clockwise) mark on the crankshaft pulley at 0 mark TDC. The next mark it on the crankshaft is white will definitely subsequently line up with the dash marks on the cams. Also make sure you rotate the crankshaft with the belt on while applying a little pressure on the belt to make sure everything line up properly before releasing the tensioner pin. Cheers :)

    Everyone crying about “he didn’t rotate the motor afterwards to insure timing”. Thats general mechanical knowledge. Hes showing specifically how to time this particular motor. He’s not doing a general “how to” time your motor. This was a great video. Stop trolling for no reason. If folks don’t know that they need to rotate it afterwards they shouldn’t be doing their timing belt themselves. 🤷

    I purchased a car which has a 2JZ engine swap. It's idling OK but has a huge flat spot on giving gas with no power at all. I checked the cam sprocket alignment at TDC. There are no dents or lines on the sprockets, only a v-shaped mark that somebody has drawn on there with a marking pen. Perhaps the sprockets were bolted on back to front. (if this is even possible?)
    Is there a way I can check if these marks are correct because I have the feeling they may not be.
    If you could demonstrate how to get both cams in alignment without having to trust these marks.
    i.e. by visually placing the cams in their correct rotary positions in relation to each other.
    Great video BTW. :-)

    Mr. Function,
    I’m in the process of doing a valve seal job on my auto mkiv. I’m in the step (following step by step Supraforum pics) where I just released the tensioner to the timing belt in order to take out my cams and get to the valves and seals.
    My question is, is it a good idea to replace the timing belt since I’m already in knee deep work? If so, I’m confused and concerned I will mess my engine up if I don’t do the timing belt correct? I noticed you stuck to aligning the dead center markings both on the gears and the crank. Is that basically all I need to do to install the timing belt? Is it that easy?
    By the way, the instructions fir the valve seals require me to remove the cams and gears. Do they need to be put back a certain way or a certain alignment?
    Any help will do.
    Thanks and Merry Christmas.

      If i recall correctly, the GE VVTI head has a much shallower recess where the valves sit in the head, the valves themselves sit closer to the piston heads. GTE heads are more recessed so the valves sit a bit higher. Someone correct me if im wrong.

      From researching the headgasket may play a part in this as the gte gasket is thicker than the ge gasket. So more than likely if you put a gte head gasket on a 2jz ge vvti engine it would then be non interference.

    • @vwbeaner
      @vwbeaner 4 года назад +1

      Turbo cars usually have lower compression. Less compression allows for more space in the combustion chamber. More space for the valve clearance makes it non-interference.

    My vvti gear did not have that 30 degree slack. Instead I was able to move it further clockwise and counterclockwise (with some force). I still lined up the line with the mark and put the timing belt back together. My concern is should I have turned the vvti gear as furthest I could clockwise? But that would also mean I was have to turn the gear alone a full rotation to get it back to TDC. When I turn the crank shaft 2 full revolutions (with belt on) everything still lines up perfectly but there’s also a bit of resistance as I do that. Did I do something wrong? Should it be a smooth rotation when I do the revolutions? Thank you!
