I've jumped on the emu ship thanks to all of Zack videos and n.america email response and support!! Was gonna go maxx ecu but their support was garbage. Thanks Zack!
I have a question, he mentions the failure point of the connection rods to be at about 650 ft-lb, does he mean 650 ft-lb at the wheels? Or at the crank? I really like to have an answer on this one if possible.
Zach at ECUMASTER is awesome man! He helped me start my 7MGTE engine in my Mk3 Supra 2years ago. And now he just gave me advise on how to setup triple fuel pumps for my 2JZGTE Mk3 Supra.
the 'E' in toyota engine codes means it's electronic fuel injected, Zack is super chill, cool dude, knows his stuff well and is not ashamed to say he doesn't know something. some background on me, i work as a tech in a toyota dealership so i get to use that magic rtv and it indeed seals everything to everything. god i wish engine swapping was legal in belgium i'd so immediatly start on a boosted E36 1jz... my god.
I loved this Aaron! You're a very good interviewer, I think your style in this video is something kinda fresh to the youtube automotive scene. I would personally love seeing a video just like this for LS's and RB's as well. Super informative content dude!
I have a '94 SC300 (2JZ-GE, 5-speed manual) with an aftermarket turbo (338 rwhp @ 13 psi). For years I was plagued by exhaust leaks between the head and manifold. I finally fixed the issue. Some of the studs had stripped out of the aluminum head and I installed Helicoils. The other issue was that the cast iron manifold itself was warped. It had to be removed and the mating face machined flat. I reinstalled the manifold with doubled graphite gaskets between it and the heads. I also fabricated and installed an 1/8" thick solid copper gasket between the manifold and turbo. Since those repairs I haven't had any further issues with the engine.
Great video Aaron good talk,This video makes me happy to own a jz, i have a is300 2jzge vvti sportcross/wagon here in the UK lexus only sold them as a auto here i did a manual swap 2 years ago using a W58 out of a mk4 supra 2jzge non vvti, got really simple drift mods works quite well just not a lot of drift days or events round my way so seat time has been low makes it hard to get it set up and dailed in.
Lex-Life Garage all the 2J vvti Alteza Gita variants in Japan are automatics too. The Gita does come with the 6 speed also but it’s only in the 3SGE version
Awesome video. Came upon a 02 is300 with a 2j vvti that a customer brought to us for a front wheel bearing. Was told dude was selling it. Offered $3000 and hopefully soon I'll own a sweet unassuming drift missle
This is an amazingly informative video and I appreciate the videos you do greatly. With that said, this is very hard to watch as you are interviewing him casting couch style and it is super awkward, as it appears Zach felt as well to a minor extent. My opinion for next interview style video you guys do like this maybe go a little more relaxed, between two ferns style type video, have a beer or two during, maybe smoke some crack. Anyways thanks for the upload!
hi everyone couple quick tips for building jzs as I have done a few, stock bottom end 2jzge non vvti are great just chuck a gte oil pump and crank trigger setup on them with a gte inlet cam with the cam trigger and you have a 9.5-1 comp 500whp reliable every day setup. personally I throw a 1jz head on them and run around 22psi of boost on e85 as when you put a 1jzgte head on the comp goes over 10-1. but there's a 500+hp setup for under 1k. happy drifting
I've used 5w-40 Rotella T6 in the turbo miata for a year or so and it's great stuff. Also, it ended my hydraulic lifter tick with it being a heavier weight than the oem weighted oil.
Hands down this is the best put together jz info I've seen. Like you were bringing up there is so much contradicting and confusing info ntm you just don't know if the source is reputable usually.
Any information as far as boosting a 1JZ-GE Non VVTI? I know it's not a very common boosted engine so I just wanted to see if anyone has done it and has any info on what would be interchangeable through the JZ realm as far as aftermarket parts goes for boost applications? Example: if I go single turbo NA-T could I use the same aftermarket turbo manifold from a 1JZGTE and it would match up to the head fine? I can't really find a whole lot of information on the 1JZGE Non vvti (1 Gen 1JZ )
do you need an oil cooler for a 2jz if your running about 850bhp? also what should the max engine oil temp/water temp go to without damaging the engine?
How is he working the GE's intake and exhaust manifolds? Custom fab or is there some kit I don't know about that doesn't utilize the cross over intake ?
They aren't really worth thinking about since they have to be swapped into everything and aren't nearly as good as the JZ platforms and others since they don't have as many available parts, and have 4 cams to deal with, etc. If they came in a useful chassis besides the SC400 they would be something to consider and think about.
You Need to make this a few part series. 1JZGTE GEN 1 GEN2 and same for the 2JZGTE GE VVTI AND NON . There are more pros and cons to having a Gen 1 1JZGTE than just saying get the vvti ... I have owned all the variants... since my JZX90 to my Crown Athlete VX I believe this was too quick ... like the guy was charging $10 a minute ... almost as frustrating of a video as its awesome.
Very good video, in fact I watched twice !!! Only thing I thought is not like you said was that the old twin turbo 1J is the one that has much chunkier rods than the VVTI therefore should be stronger than the VVTi
I am trying to install a 2jz engine into a 90 supra non turbo. Do computers match or do I need a harness and where do I buy as well as the rear swap oil sump. Thanks
For heavy sustained load, the piston squirters are excellent at keeping the pistons cool. Very important on a diesel or an endurance track car. Not critical for a street car that only see's WOT for short stints.
Since this channel caters a lot to drifters too, that sounds relevant, especially for people using engines where you can hotlap for longer periods of times (entire tire life for most high power cars) as drifters usually tend to rew hard for "extended" periods of time
I'm not a drifter and frankly, don't understand the powertrain needs of that genre of motorsports. That notwithstanding, my assessment of what oil squirters provide is accurate. Use your best judgement. Cheers!
I like the format on drift technology. I don't have one specific topic in mind. Maybe the same approach for turbos, transmissions, an LSX, or LSDs, steering setups, etc. The do's and don'ts. The limitations and potential trouble areas. I think new enthusiasts could benefit and avoid some frustration. Just my 2 cents
I personally would buy a sealed turbo JZ motor from the factory, the secret to the success of the motors is Toyota building them. Unless you have built a ton of them, then go for it.
Most of this is very good information but I do have a few things to add, #1 the Pistons on the vvti 2jzge crack on the ringlands over 350whp if you don't have a great tuner, #2 the ge's doesn't have oil squirters in the block so people that drift tend to want to run them because of the better oil pressure because of lack of them, #3 an the reason why 1jzge head's are so popular on 2jzge's is because the intake manifold front facing, #4 an this is very important the stroke on a 1j is 71.5 an a 2j is 86 so by All rights they shouldn't be interchangeable I've never verified this but I don't see how it's possible, #5 Journal 1 on the 2j is 23mm and the rest are 20mm an all the journals on a 1j is 20mm, #6 vvti is great for drifting but not so much for drag after 600hp or so it's not useful an that's why big hp guys don't run vvti an the big hp guys that bought vvti 2jzge's just because of there availability eliminate the vvti system an run non vvti cams.
Hi, I have a 97 sc 300 with a 2jz-ge engine it's a daily driver, I love the car, but I want a lil more power 350-400hp, what do you recommend to achieve that type of power?
William Lightner turbo, turbo manifold, exhaust, intercooler, fuel pump, bigger injectors, an electronic to control the fuel and possibly a bigger maf sensor not to mention getting it timed and tuned correctly. Oh, and RESEARCH. If done correctly these motors are indestructible, but if done wrong like any engine will be burnt toast. Oh, and do maintenance first(gaskets, seals, tune-up ect.)
Thank you for doing this video I learned a lot from it. I have a 94 land cruiser which engine of these would you put in and why? Thank you ahead of time. Also should I keep the same transmission?
Keep the land cruiser motor, it is a beast, I have had 8 of them. The 2JZ would be a downgrade for it. If you want a bunch of power out of the motor you can put a turbo on it, search for sand drag land cruisers and stuff on youtube and enjoy the hilariousness
Thank you for your quick response, Is a Turbo better than a super charger for my 94? because the Toyota Super Charger they sell is for 96 and newer also any brand you would recommend in either Turbo or Super charger?
Honestly, just leaving it alone is the best answer. I believe the 1995 OBD2 cars can bolt on the TRD super charger very simply, but I don't believe your year can due to differences. Just leave it alone and enjoy the thing. If it is a bit slow you can bump the timing up a bit when doing a tune up, and that is probably about it lol.
Is a 1st gen. 1JZ-GE (non-VVTi) able to produce 300bhp w/o forced induction? If possible to do a 300bhp NA build, what are the necessary things that needs to be modified?
Nick Amarit for a 1j? Probably not gonna happen. You’d need a crazy stroker setup, some humongous cams, itbs, and you’d need to rev it to like 11,000 to make that much power. The highest hp na 2j took like 20 grand to build and only makes like 500 hp. It’s WAY cheaper to make that much turbo’d
@@Matt_Lanzer_13 I understand what you mean totally. How much power would 11k RPM, huge cams, head porting, ITBs, performance exhaust system from header to muffler, uprated fuel system... and etc. be able to produce on a NA 1JZ, you think? And, from experience, I like the displacement (bore/stroke ratio) behavior of the 1JZ more than a 2JZ... the 1JZ just revs up more quickly... We have both 1JZ and 2JZ (but both NA though) at the house, but the 2JZ is in my dad's Merc (so I can't mod that lol).
Nick Amarit honestly? I have no idea. I’ve never done anything so serious. The most na jz experience I have is with my 2jz ge before I turbo’d it. It made about 170 wheel if it was lucky. I think you’d be pretty hard pressed to make that much power naturally aspirated from a built na 2j, let alone the smaller 1j. When talking na, displacement is king. You could definitely get a stout little na 1j that would probably make half decent power, but I don’t know about 300+. Good luck man!
2JZ-FSE uses direct injection with a higher compression ratio of 11.3:1, same power only offered with automatic transmissions and used In the Toyota Brevis, Progres, Crown, and Gita (altezza wagon thingy)
Lone Star Drift No I haven’t, would love too I haven’t even driven a a turbo jz motor just a 2jz-ge in an is300. I’d love to own a Toyota Progres it’s even more unsuspecting than a gs300 looks like a grandpa grocery getter.

I've read that the 2jz GE does not have oil spraying nozzles to cool the pistons, but the GTE has, would not that affect them in some way when tuned?

Honestly, just leaving it alone is the best answer. I believe the 1995 OBD2 cars can bolt on the TRD super charger very simply, but I don't believe your year can due to differences. Just leave it alone and enjoy the thing. If it is a bit slow you can bump the timing up a bit when doing a tune up, and that is probably about it lol.
I don't know if vvti is always a good idea. It makes some maintenance harder.
@@Matt_Lanzer_13 i'll keep the 300 number as an end/dream goal for my NA 1JZ build then... let's keep it at bhp tho, not whp. :)
@03:29 Dropping GE vvti Redpills on us!! I pulled my GE vvti motor out of the JY for 600 bucks!!!
this is an awesome video. . it needs a bump for new viewers
if you find a 2jzfse they have shim less buckets that fit in normal 2jz
I thought the first gen Aristo came first with the 2JZ.
First year of the Aristo was 1991 I believe.
Yeah.. Zach buddy the Mk3 Supra is nice... Finishing up mine with the 2jzgte single turbo.
2JZ-FSE uses direct injection with a higher compression ratio of 11.3:1, same power only offered with automatic transmissions and used In the Toyota Brevis, Progres, Crown, and Gita (altezza wagon thingy)
Have you ever driven one? I am very curious, I have never seen one in real life.
Lone Star Drift No I haven’t, would love too I haven’t even driven a a turbo jz motor just a 2jz-ge in an is300. I’d love to own a Toyota Progres it’s even more unsuspecting than a gs300 looks like a grandpa grocery getter.
Yep! The 2JZ-FSE is equipped on my IS300 SportX, which was only offered with an automatic trans.
Hahaha that's so true, CD009 swaps cost as much as a R154. Doing a CD swap for my 1JZ 😅
Yeah, I always think, why not just stick with the trans that comes with the car and fits everything lol.
cd009 is stronger
