@@LoneStarDrift i follow his channel as well, but your interviews are great, you usually ask the hard questions and pull out the behind the scenes stuff like what you asked in this video "who blew up engines and why"
The whole “rb’s are unreliable” stipulation is honestly due to people here in the states cheating out on parts and just lack of knowledge. Down under they’ve got a much better amount of parts and knowledge. Look at Jake drift squid. His s13 had a near stock neo in it for years and he never blew it

Honestly him comparing the 7M to the RB made my year. I am building a 12:1 7MGE Supra Mk3 for drifting. I already know the fun oil and HG issues, but 7M's are starting to become popular again and I prefer to have pure-bred Supra Mk3 as well.
@@jayveethreefive5214 They learned a lot of lessons on the 7M and used those to build the 2JZ, which solved pretty much everything you would need to fix about the 7M.

Toyota had help from a motorcycle engine manufacturer. And motorcycle engines are known to live happily in the high rpms reliably. Much like what honda has done for their engines.
I’m sure this is mentioned somewhere in the video and I just missed it but Rad Dan doesn’t just rev his engines lower but also he used to not run VVT so even if the rev limit was high it makes no power up there so would never be banging off the rev limiter

Adam was iron block 3,4 with wet sump and as I good remember he was not revving very high, but fast Dan's answer with front sump explains a lot....and overall, Worthouse engines in Peter's car were not so reliable as many think ;)
That was cool as hell. Its a good ? if some stuff is engineered and has full understanding prior of how good or bad it will be. So much goes into that, but a little luck for sure.

At the end of the video, Dan mentions that he knows the motor isn't the best in the series, but it's the motor that came in his car and he really likes to keep it pure bred. Is he referring to his motor not being the best of the JZ series of motors because he uses the Non VVTi 2JZ-GTE that came in the supra vs a VVTi 2JZ-GTE out of an Arristo or is he saying the 2JZ isn't the best motor in FD and there other motors that are better like an LS?
From the context it sounds like hes talking within the JZ line, because the interviewer asked if hes making any changes to his JZ setup specifically in the question. Could be wrong though
James deanes brother Mike built the 2jz engines. And both the fd cars have the same engine as when built. In a video in his channel you can see the internals were mint after much abuse. James deanes first proper competition car his rx7 won championships all over the world with the factory rotary still in her today. You should come to Ireland for drift masters round 1. Plenty of videos to be made there for you
I dont think they really engineered all that much. You can swap so much from the bottom end on a 1j and 2j the similarities end with a taller deck height. Mostly the head work changed
If Dan wants to stop having head problems maybe he should buy an rb haha rb26dett was designed for motorsport were power levels were more modest even toyota didn't use the 2jz in racing as it was to heavy for the power levels required
This video really opened my eyes on Rad Dan. He's very humble and knowledgable
i'm so happy Aaron is doing these with him, i don't think he gets anywhere close to the respect he deserves

Extra oil and a good baffle system in the sump go a long way

Make the same power with stock pistons
Mike Deane, James’ brother is responsible for the reliability. I’d very much put that down the the families rallying history.
A Tomei oil pan baffle installed in in front sump JZ wouldn’t have stopped the oil gravity situation?

A well designed gated / baffled sump will help 100%. It may keep oil at the pickup just long enough to save the engine
