  • Hyundais and Kia owners who are watching cars like theirs get stolen at alarming rates are taking the automakers to court, saying defective ignition systems on some models are to blame.
Car owners in Wisconsin filed suit in June 2021.
Just days ago, Kia and Hyundai owners in Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky and Texas also filed class action lawsuits.
Locally, thefts of some models of Hyundais and Kias are soaring.
St. Louis Police say in July alone, 1,000 cars were reported stolen - 301 were Hyundais and 333 were Kias.
That’s about two-thirds of every car stolen in July.
Police say thieves are using USB cords to start the engines on some models that are not equipped with immobilizing technology after breaking windows not connected to the car’s security systems.

Why blame the Automaker? Make the penalty for an auto thief more severe and you will deter the thieves....

This company is causing so much grief to innocent people. For most Kia / Hyundai owners, the car is the single biggest investment. It is so heartbreaking to see people getting victimized like this. The government needs to go after Kia/ Hyundai hard!!! I propose a full refund for anyone who bought these cars. This is criminal what they are doing, disgusting...

Are you serious? I feel so sorry for this generation. SECURE YOUR CARS FOOLS! Purchase an aftermarket alarm with hidden cut-out. Yall couldn't survive the 70's where hoods could just open from outside. They would just pop the hood and steal your battery. We had to buy chains and locks to secure the hood. Also had to chain the brake pedal to the steering wheel. Saved up money and moved out the high crime area. It's not the company's fault. It's your responsibility to secure your property. That factory 'alarm' is not effective. Better look for the steering wheel club at the minimum.

@@watchmenow0071Bro you are actually so dumb. Think about it like this. What if your phone had an exploit that allowed people to just get right into it without a password or get right into your bank account because you lost your wallet or what if companies never learned from the 1970s where you had to do all of that to secure your property. If companies refused to fix this obvious security flaws we would need to be paranoid about everything we own. How about this in your example you say what if people could remove your steering wheel club in 10 seconds with a usb stick. I think if any of these things would happen you’d be pretty mad that these security measures had such obvious exploits and the companies that make them refuse to do anything about it. These things are supposed to be the chains and locks of the modern day and if they are inherently flawed it’s the manufacturers problem to fix even if the flaw wasn’t created on purpose.

I'm so sick of these idiots getting away with this. They owe me 300.00 because a dang kid broke my window already. I'm loosing sleep watching the only car I have to get back and forth to work. I can't afford replacing stuff because my insurance is to high right now. 🤔 Had I known this before I signed the paperwork I would have asked for something else. 🤔🤬🤔🤬

Boss: Sure: We don't care about America as long as they send their money to us in Korea. They love a bargain.

Even my 2004 Toyota and 2001 Chevy have immobilizers. It’s too bad that the Korean auto makers lure consumers in with their prices and warranties and neglect to include standard safety equipment.

It blows my mind that nobody is blaming the thieves!
How about 20 years hard labor for grand theft auto? The country could sure use some infrastructure updates.
Let's blame the car companies for our car being stolen because they didn't make it harder to steal. The car companies should have X or X technologies it's all their fault.
It's the same as blaming a short skirt for the rape of a woman. If she had worn a longer skirt, she wouldn't have been raped. We should start a class action lawsuit against clothing manufactures.
    How did we get here?

Problem is the Korean selling cars without proper anti theft devices in 2023 when other companies corrected this issue. The thieves not all that easy to find after the fact the car is found abandoned.

companies can security experts to test their prototypes and avoid this issues but they are just too cheap and too stupid. and when I say security experts I mean someone like the lockpicking lawyer, bosnian bill, or the other youtube lockpicking creators.
