  • (Part 1 of 2) Join us on a scenic loop around Block Island, RI. After circumnavigating the island, we proceed onto Montauk, NY and then Danbury, CT for fuel. New York TRACON is saturated this afternoon and we’re unable to pick-up IFR clearance en route. We proceed to Danbury VFR and the flight terminates with a steep decent to runway 26.
    This is flight #1 in a two-part series. Stay tuned for the rest of our flight to Virginia including a trip down the Hudson River Corridor “Skyline Route”.

    My dad learned to fly at Danbury in the early 80's. Mostly Cessna's. I loved flying with him when I was a boy. But we always dreamed of flying a Mooney. Love your content.

      Thanks Gerald. I enjoyed flying into Danbury - neat little airport. If you get a chance to fly a Mooney I think you'll really like it. They have their quirks, but are some of the most efficient and tightest flying airplanes out there.

      @@keithmccormack6248 it's a combination Waterbury-Oxford airport. That was to our north, and Sikorsky field to our south.

    Hi So fun watching your videos as I went to CU, brings back memories of living in Boulder and the days of skiing the I-70 areas.
    I have the same year and model Mooney '64 M20C. I've been trying to find sun visors wanted the Rosen but not certified for pre-'68. I tried the Ram Universal but a very bad fit. What do you have in your Mooney?

    Great video Christian, I loved visiting your west coast a few years back but now, thanks to your vlog, I am going to have to visit the eastern seaboard for comparison! Like your wings - how old is the Mooney? Nicholas 🇬🇧

    • @ManandaMooney
      @ManandaMooney  4 года назад

      Cheers Nicholas. Marj is 56 years young (born in 1964). Both coasts are great, but the East Coast holds a special place in my heart.

  • @midlifeflyer
    @midlifeflyer 3 года назад

    Dunno if it would have made a difference but the Boston controller clearly thought you wanted VFR flight following, not trying to pick up an IFR clearance. I'm betting NY thought so too which is why they never answered your "VFR" initial call after repeatedly telling pilots they were "unable advisories."

    • @ManandaMooney
      @ManandaMooney  3 года назад +1

      I thought about that after the fact too Midlife Flight. In the end we were in VFR conditions and didn't need the advisories. I figured I'd stay out of their hair.

    Love the videos👍🏻 just stumbled across them. I’ve only just started my flight training. However I’m a big Mooney fan and wondered if you do any vlogs on your particular Mooney? I’m guessing a m20c or e? Did you upgrade the avionics or purchased that way? Would be interesting...there’s e model here that I’ve got my eye on but it would a bit of a fixer upper.

    • @ManandaMooney
      @ManandaMooney  4 года назад

      Thanks Matt. Yep, She's a 1964 M20C. I'm planning to do a video about Marj (the Mooney) and my journey from purchase to where she is today. I made significant upgrades over the last 4 years of ownership. If you're just starting out, that's not a bad route to go. You will probably pay more in the long run, but you can spread those expenses out over years, and tailor the upgrades to your wants/needs. I have no regrets doing it that way.

      Man and a Mooney awesome stuff. I’ll keep an eye out for that. I’ll find it particularly interesting as I have designs on doing the same thing. Love the look of the Mooney and just think best performance for the $$. Keep up the good work 👍🏻

    Fellow Mooney pilot,! Enjoying the channel. Curious if there is something wrong with the Bose mic? You continually grabbed it and adjusted.

    • @ManandaMooney
      @ManandaMooney  3 года назад

      Absolutely nothing wrong with the mic, it’s a bad habit I’ve developed over the years. When I’m not speaking (or making these videos), I push the mic away from my face. That way I can eat, drink, and be merry without accidently ingesting a foam ball. An unfortunate byproduct of that is I’ve now developed a habit of checking the mic position every time before I speak. It’s completely subconscious, but none the less distracting for these videos. Sorry in advance.

    Christian, do mind sharing what video cameras you use and any advice. I have a '59 A model. Thanks N8335E

    • @ManandaMooney
      @ManandaMooney  2 года назад

      Joe, I use GoPros to capture my footage. I recommend using a newer model with Image Stabilization (7+). I also record at the highest bitrate possible and use a flat color profile. This means a lot more work in post-production, but results in more detail coming through in my final videos.

    1:40 great video, but you can’t stop on the hold short line. That counts as an excursion, you gotta be careful about that.

    • @ManandaMooney
      @ManandaMooney  2 года назад +1

      Sound advice Jaden G and I don’t mean to discredit it but, If we’re getting technical here, you can’t have an excursion at an uncontrolled airfield. The principle of “see and avoid” prevail. That said, I agree that it’s best not to get in the habit. FYI: The reason I was on the line here was to avoid blasting the plane behind me while I did a run-up. If you look at a satellite view of KBID you’ll see what I’m talking about.

      @@ManandaMooney That’s amazing! Meanwhile by car/ferry it takes a few hours.
