- Flight from Montauk Airport, New York, Runway 6 to Block Island, Rhode Island, Runway 28. Full flight in a Mooney M20F. Recorded with 2 HD cameras. One in the cockpit and one wing camera.
We had to delay the flight a little bit due to dense sea fog at Block Island. In the video, you see some remaining patches of the fog over the water. The flight was conducted as VFR-flight (visual flight rules). For the approach, we loaded the RNAV (GPS) approach to runway 28 into the GPS-system to have an additional guidance.
Block Island Airport is challenging because the runway is not that long: Only 2500 feet or 760 meters. In addition, there is always a chance for a downdraft near the threshold of runway 28. The threshold is located at an elevation of 108 feet. Just in front of the runway, the elevation looks like about 0 feet MSL, rising sharply to 108 feet.
Montauk is located in the eastern part of the famous Hamptons, belonging to the state of New York. Block island is a favorite vacation spot in the adjacent state of Rhode Island. Block Island is reachable by ferry boat or small private and commuter planes.

Which air service can take me from Montauk to Block Island?
Good question. I think there is no airservice on this routing. The video was recorded from a private, single engine Mooney airplane with 4 seats.
