I got my BOP from Walmart. Got it as a foot tall for $5 and in 3 months it’s almost 3 feet tall. It’s definitely loving the florida sun! One of my favorite plants.
Thank you for this well detailed video, I have a two year old bird of paradise. I just water it and bring outside in the spring. I need to do neem oil solution.
This video cannot come in a much better timing! I recently was gifted a Birds of Paradise. SO so thankful for this! As per always, your videos are informative and you are a wealth of information. Keep it up, Marianne!
BEST Bird of Paradise video on RUclips! I’ve been researching, and have to BOP’s - your video is incredibly thorough and so detailed and helpful. Thanks for doing this, love!
Wow great video!! Love the details and how you explained everything. As a new owner of a BoP, you did an excellent job covering the care with some personal tips. You got a new subscriber :) Looking forward to your future videos. Keep it up!
I put my new B O P in dorect sun today just after biying it . When you said they should not be in direct sun, I ran outside to move it. Good thing I did, one of its leaves had started to curl. It had been out in the sun for only 45 minites. THANK YOU for all the details.
Very good video. I just got one from Lowe’s. It was kind of raggedy. The leaves are burned at the tips and cracked. All of them looked like that, I figured I could try to save it if it watched some videos. I’m new to planting so I wasn’t sure of what to do. I did get a baby bop from Walmart two mos ago and it is growing like crazy. But this one is medium sized.i was about to take all the dirt off of it and soak it in a soapy tub of water a few mins like I did the other plants I have but you said not to repot it. I have it sitting in the garage currently until I figure out what to do with it, in case it has pests in it. It’s been there almost a week.
I’ve had my bop for about 5 years and my reginae for about 4 indoors mostly in ga. I use both bone meal and blood meal as supplements but I also blend ripe bananas and water in vitamin and pour into the soil once a month. They are in my sunroom and I have grow lights for the dark days. The white one is at least 11ft while reginae is about 5.5. Amazing plants good info that I’d say is right on point with what I’ve noticed over the years gr8 video
Thanks for the tip. I found my first one yesterday by mistake and it what you call a hidden gem! I mixed up my own soil and added worm castings and gave it a nice drink of liqui dirt and super thrive because the poor thing was so dried out when I found it. The moss was so hard that even after leaving it in water for an hour to bottom water, the water did not move into the pot.
Just got my BoP from Home Depot for 13 dollars as my first houseplant ever! So happy to learn that its trendy and will add so much to my home over time :)
I finally got mine, in may of 2022 haha. I tried to grow them from seeds and was never successful. I got a white one. It was about 2-3 foot tall. I got it from walmart for only $5.97. Such a great price! Happy i found your video. I really wanna grow this plant huge.
I got my first Bird of Paradise plant 5 days ago at Wal-Mart for $20. It is 3' tall, not counting the pot. I researched several videos, & yours is the most helpful. I have big windows facing south, but they are designed to block direct sun in spring & summer & admit it in fall & winter. My roof overhangs by 2' & the windows are tinted to admit sun in cold weather & block it in warm weather. It surprised me how indoor light (except direct sun) registers at about 200 lumens on my light meters, compared to strong outdoor light, which registers past 2000 lumens. I will try an LED plant lamp, but the ones I tried need to be about 6" from the leaves to register more than 200 lumens.
very very helpful video, i just happened to come across trying to figure out what to do with BOP that I bought from Home depot yesterday. Thanks for answering my main question when to repot, what to do with top soil etc...Just subscribed to your channel.
I completely agree about the Bird of Paradise. FLF are too unreliable for good, regular growth. Monstera's don't grow in height as much as they grow out wide, which can be hard to design around. My Bird of Paradise is one of my favorite plants. Top 5 for sure! And 100% underrated.
Thanks for the wonderful info I recently got a white Bop and feel confident in growing it properly after watching your video & you have a new subscriber . Happy planting 😁💚
I will definitely buy this plant! Perfect for my art deco designed bedroom because of their elegant looking foliage. Thank you for this very useful video. 🙏❤️
Hi, I dug up several BOP plants today out of my friends mountains. I never knew it had rihzomes. Will it grow fast? Can I use it as a natural fence? Does it spread? If yes, how wide?
I re potted mine right away and now after 4 months I want to separate them. There are 2 in the pot. That should be fine right ? I need to get the neem spray. Thank you for your video
I got one about 5 years ago and it's just bloomed 😁 so pretty but it is a bit scraggly looking and some leaves been eaten so I'm going to repot, clean leaves like you suggested
So informative and detailed, thank you. I’ve seen a tree size BoP but no flower blooming, does the size of the plant/tree affect blooming in general? I’m thinking about getting that from Craigslist and hopefully survived the trip to my house to get transplanted 😅
Hi Can you tell when bird of paradise need fertilization Which one I can use Please tell me which pest control I use For all indoor plants I'm waiting for your reply
Hello it's nice to meet you... you did a very good job and a very detailed video but the only thing you left out was clipping the leaves.... I'm at a loss because the stem is green but the leaf is dead... ????? Any suggestions for me? Any advice you can give me? Like I said the stock is green but the leaf is brown curled up and dead... Thank you in advance... TerryLee
This video was super helpful thank you!! I am planning to repot my bird of paradise for the first time and I got a bag of miracle grow potting mix and a bag of organic peat moss. Was planning to do a 50/50 mix - any thoughts on that approach?
Out standing video just purchased one yesterday from home depot however there are 2 of them in the pot however I will separate them and I payed$30 I realized after i bought it home I was going to end up with 2 plants : Update separated and repotted my BOP one of them has a new leaf as far as I can see they are still getting used to being repotted out of all of my plants these are the ones who have me the most curious
Hi Marianne, thank you for making the video! I have some questions, I hope I can get some help from you. I got my bird of paradise for a couple months now. It was not in a very good condition when it arrived. There were some burns, marks, and splits on the leaves. But the shape and size of the BOP was nice. The soil came really wet, there was water seeping out from the bottom of the pot for a week. Under my friend's suggestion I took it out of the pot and dried the soil under the sun for a day. After I put it back to the pot I water it like every 2 to 2 .5 weeks. It grows normally, but the burns, marks, and splits never heal. The soil doesn't dry easily, sometimes even 3 weeks passed it's still wet, when the soil of my monstera in the same size pot has already became dry in a week. I don't want to water the BOP when it's still wet, in fear that it can cause root rot. I wanted to change the soil, but my friend said that could shock the plant. Because the soil is always so moist, it started to have a lot of fungus gnat, I can see the eggs on the soil. In this situation, What's the best solution to get rid of the fungus gnats. Should I do the hydrogen peroxide wash first, and then treat it with the neem oil soap solution for 7 days? Thank you in advance.😊
I got a beautifully healthy BOP from a local greenhouse with 2 3-foot tall plants in the pot for $30 CAD. Really good deal. Would you recommend dividing the plant this time of year? I’d have to wait a few weeks before I do that because I just brought it home a few days ago
Hi! I recently had to repot my BOP because it was infested with little black flies. But since then she started to lean heavily and the leaves are drooping a litte as well as getting brown tips with a little curling. Why is this happening and what can I do?
I'm definitely getting this plant soon! Where did you get your humidifier? How much did it cost? Also how long do you leave your humidifer on? One more thing, what type of water do you use for your humidifier?
I have alot of birds of paradise plant and I bought some with multiple plants inside of one pot . I have one plant thats 4year old its doing good they like to be root bound. I don't take my outside . I try it and my leaves burn up and then I was told to cut of the leaves with a knife and that made my plant like ugly and one die and one survived. I notice the small ones keep pest ,my larger ones don't . I use water globe to water and I get new leaves all year . Thanks for the information I have white and orange bird of paradise mixed in pots together.
Hello, Thanks for your posting! I just bought this plant, please tell how to prepare neem oil solution. How many much of neem oil in 1l water? Thank you!
Such a helpful video and so many details thank you! I really need to be better about wiping down my BOP leaves, they’re so big and they do collect sooo much dust! yours is beautiful
Thank you! I do find they collect more dust a lot more quickly than the rest of my floor plants. Or maybe coz I just notice it more coz the leaves are bigger and longer 😅
How do I save a cut stalk of a Bird of Paradise? One of the guys putting in my fence cut the stalk of my 8 foot tall 14 year old Bird of Paradise after we talked about the fact that it would not be in the way of them putting in the gate. I knew the gate would hit it when opened but I was going to remove and replant that part. The problem was the 2 guys there didn't speak English so while they were shaking their heads in agreement, they didn't understand me and I didn't know that until I saw what they did and asked them why they did it and why they didn't ask me about it.
I left my bird of paradise outside and burnt all the leaves badly 😔 I was told to cut them so I did; almost all of them from the base of the plant. Would they grow back or should I give up? Thanks in advance.
I got my BOP from Walmart. Got it as a foot tall for $5 and in 3 months it’s almost 3 feet tall. It’s definitely loving the florida sun! One of my favorite plants.
Whats!! In 3 months..
Big up to Walmart!
Critter crawling up the leftmost BOP leaf at 9:07?
How did you catch that ?!
Wow, I think you covered everything. I am a new bop owner and you answered all the questions I had! Thank you!
I’ve had my BOP for 4 years now, I love it!
has it bloomed at all?
that was really really useful! thanks
Plants Alive! We have that plant store here in Maryland. Thanks for the great video.
Awesome!! Thank you :)
Just recently getting into planting and this video was very helpful!
Excellent video. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for this well detailed video, I have a two year old bird of paradise. I just water it and bring outside in the spring. I need to do neem oil solution.

BEST Bird of Paradise video on RUclips! I’ve been researching, and have to BOP’s - your video is incredibly thorough and so detailed and helpful. Thanks for doing this, love!
Thank you for this content! Did not know three separate plants in one pot would slow its growth. Makes sense!
Wow great video!! Love the details and how you explained everything. As a new owner of a BoP, you did an excellent job covering the care with some personal tips. You got a new subscriber :) Looking forward to your future videos. Keep it up!
Thanks sally!
Very informative video. Thank you! I bought my first BOD from IKEA yesterday.

Planterina said to put it in full direct sunlight. I have mine in an area that gets full sun for a part of the day.
You explained a few things no other BOP videos/blogs have mentioned! Thank you
Happy New Year Marianne! Glad to see you back❤
Thanks tonya!
Thank you for the video!
Thank you so much!
Thank you for these amazing tips. I was ready to get rid of my BOP plant. I now understand what to do. So happy I ran across this video.

@@dreamHIGH94 I water weekly because it in a south facing window and the room stay 75 . I suggest you get a water meter and check it every week
What type of soil should I use? They (Home Depot) told me that the Miracle Gro Cactus Soil is good for this plant but keep getting mixed advice.
Hello,
Thanks for your posting! I just bought this plant, please tell how to prepare neem oil solution. How many much of neem oil in 1l water? Thank you!
I buy the spray that is already mixed.
I got 2 this year in 4" pots and just in the summer season they are now 3' tall. Home Depot $5.99 ea

How do you know so much?! 😲
Sterlitza alba or sterlitza nicoli
I just got a 3 inch pot bird of paradise from Walmart for $4.98 😁
A white bird of paradise at home depot
these plants are not found natively in the tropical regions, it's natural ranges climate is classified as temperate.
Plop
The word is "foliage," not to be pronounced as "foilage."
I love your videos but the plant is called a bird of paradise, not birds of paradise. Unless something has changed that I don't know about. 🙂
Lol I’m sure you’re right I keep thinking the same while I’m editing the video but just went with it 😂
