  • The Fine Art of Small Talk by Debra Fine rocked my conversational world. Clearly showing me the power of small talk and gave me the tools necessary to start fixing my approach anxiety. I never knew what to say to someone to open a conversation.
I used to have the conversational skills of a block of cheese. Parmesan. Small talk was my worst nemesis. I would avoid it like the plague. If someone didnt open the conversation I would rather stand in silence. I don't care about the weather and I don't want to see pictures of your son playing the recorder.
Unsurprisingly this meant that for a LONG period of time I made no new friends. Whattttt!? Scrooge incarnate didn't make any friends.
Debra Fine does a fantastic job contextualizing why small talk is important and shared valuable small talk tips and techniques. While I wouldn't say small talk is easy now. It is possible. And more importantly I see the benefits of it.
Whether you want to get better at networking, find effective conversation starters, or overcome social anxiety, this book offers practical advice that can make a real difference.

This is so true and highly relatable as a fellow introvert! "How to Win Friends & Influence People" by Dale Carnegie is also a classic on this topic. It's all about asking questions, listening, and making the other person feel seen. =)

Thankkkk you. An undervalued skill that has insane leverage if you are good at it. You are so close to 1,000 subs. We've got to celebrate that in some way
