"Imagine a Jackie Chan fight in an Ikea store"
No, imagine a Jackie Chan fight in an Ikea warehouse where the furniture starts unassembled and he accidentally creates a showroom display during the course of the fight.
Jackie Chan: beating 4 people up by building a desk, and another 6 with the entertainment stand
That would be the best ever! Kicking and flipping furniture until it's a beautiful window display. Lol
Man i need this movie
I’d watch that
if anyone reading this in the future can get the idea to Jackie Chan or Sammo Hung, please make it happen xD
Everybody always reacts to the Legend of Drunken Master, but never the first one. I think it's cool in the lore of Drunken Master that there are, I think, ten drunk styles that he has to learn. The drunken flute player, the drunk with a bad leg, the drunk with a barrel in his hand, the drunk lady... There's a cool scene in the first one where he trains and demonstrates all of the drunk styles.
Check out his reaction to the final fight from this movie; someone commented with each of the eight drunken styles and where they are exemplified in the fight. Pretty cool analysis of the form you're referencing.
I really love how he refuses to practice miss Ho because he's embarrassed and he has to learn the form in the last battle because it's the only thing that can throw off the last opponent.
The final fight, 8 Drunken Immortals. You'll be able to see how they're chiefly depicted like so (not in sequence)...
Tieguai Li - Lame in one leg with iron crutch.
Han Xiangzi - A flautist.
Zhang Guo Lao - An old man with a donkey.
He Xiangu - Young woman with a large lotus flower
Cao Guojiu - Middle-aged politician with a clapper (something like a castanet)
Lan Caihe - Intersex, flower basket.
Lu Dongbin - A swordsman.
Han Zhongli - Man holding giant fan.
This is probably my favorite martial arts movie ever. Drunken Master is also really good but The Legend of Drunken Master (which is the sequel) is fantastic. You should definitely watch them all sometime even if not as a reaction.
Tai Chi Zero is one of my favorite.
Dude when he go between the leg of the bad guy is so sad in the prequel ;p
7 Deadly Venoms for me
@@absolutepower7968 you mean the five deadly venom
@@Ryooken you right. I watched Magnificent 7 last night and got em mixed up
Supposedly, the drunken part wasn't meant to be fully drunk, but more like hammered enough that you won't feel pain from the hits. Still he probably woke up with very bad sores all over his body the day after.
02:46
And on top of that, he's a man of culture!!!!
That's it, new subscriber
When ip man had that fight at the boatyard all I could think was how much mayhem jackie chan would have unleashed there. An army of thugs, tons of random stuff lying all over the place, a parkour playground of stuff to climb on, jump through, roll over, etc. I always love watching jackie chan fight. Its endlessly entertaining.
The fearless hyena end scene. So incredible. Actually the whole film was.
Yes, especially with those 3 halberd guys!
Rock Lee vs Kimamaro is HEAVILY inspired by this movie. This scene even. Lee even does the not falling backwards moment (4:07) in their fight.
Potentially even the spinning headbutt move (don't remember).
I'll have to rewatch the scene and see if I can spot the similarities! One of my favorite anime fights
@@BurridgeMartialArts604 His father gets pissed at him on there for getting drunk lol.
@@BurridgeMartialArts604 The last last fight where he fights Ken Lo is bad ass.
@@BurridgeMartialArts604 When it comes to Thai Boxing watch Tony Jaa and Buakaw and the movie Yamada he is in.
@@BurridgeMartialArts604 Yeah, it's the best. Also, if you do review the last fight scene of Drunken Master (ruclips.net/video/4DASVxFS5tg/видео.html), at 6:02, 6:18, and 7:00, those are all moves Rock Lee does at some point in that fight. Even the handstand kicks haha.
Thank you for reminding me how great Jackie is. I used to watch him all the time for inspiration and comedy when I was younger. You are right, he is mesmerizing. The innovation and improvisation style choreography is just amazing.
Definitely my favorite Jackie Chan of all time!
I love jackie chan movies not only because of the entertaining way he fights but also how much effort he puts in.
Making those fights work with wide shots, long scenes and difficult stunts that take ages to get right ( like the bottle scene you pointed out), you can really feel the fight and dedication behind. unfortunatly martial arts movies like this don't get made anymore lots of cuts, different camera angles that take a lot of fluidity out.
Any and every fight scene from Jet Li's "Fist of Legend". Some of the best ever...
Both Drunken Master 2 & Fist of Legend even came out the same year.
That jump double spin (fake 720 or whatever you want to call it) is just legendary. That's the amazing thing about Jackie Chan movies. It's approachable for the audience member who just wants something entertaining and maybe funny, but if you're a serious martial artist you HAVE TO appreciate the incredible level of skill involved. One of the few ever who could pull off making something that intricate and complicated look buffoonish and comedic.
In the original dialogue, JC's character names the Eight Drunken Immortals mostly after demonstrating each in this scene. My best guesses from what I can recognize:
4:38 Lan Caihe - the drunkard w/ the sudden deadly waist attack
4:45 Lu Dongbin - the drunkard w/ inner strength
4:58 Cao (Tso) Guojiu - the drunkard w/ the powerful throat lock
5:06 Zhang (Chan) Gualao - the drunkard w/ the swift double-kicks
5:09 Li Tieguai - the drunken cripple w/ the powerful right leg
5:16 Han Xiangzi - the drunken flute player w/ the powerful wrists
5:27 He (Ho) Xiangu - the drunken woman flaunting her body
6:01 Zhongli (Jun) Quan - the drunkard holding a pot in his arms
that does not sound right....
4:33 Lu Dong Bin.
4:42 Li TieGuai
4:51 Zhong Li Quan
@@_Wai_Wai_ Is that what the dialogue says or are you going by the movements as well?
One of my favorite films. Wanted to join his stunt team as a kid.
He has amazing control of his body, every muscle is in tune to what’s needed for each scene. Cool reaction mate 👏👏💯💯
Bro I watched multiple of your videos. Cool stuff. New sub
"For me he is hands down my favorite martial arts actor of all time."
You've won a new Subscriber for this.
That female actor's name was Anita Mui! Anita Mui was the equivalent of Madonna in Asia. An absolute legend of Cantopop and the became an accomplished actor as well both doing comedy and serious dramas. We lost this beloved icon on the 30 December 2003 to cervical cancer. RIP MY QUEEN
Thanks for sharing!!!
In case someone not knowing about, the main villain in this figth scene is Ho Sung Pak. He was "SuperStar" in the WMAC Masters series. But maybe you know him from Mortal Kombat 1 & 2 games, as Liu Kang.
He is an awesome martial artist!!!
He's also Korean not Chinese so don't get confused of Liu Kang in MK 1 & 2
I love Jackie Chan's movies too, his skills are amazing and he is the only martial artist actor who combines comedy with fighting, so everyone in the family can watch his movies.
from 4:32 to 6:11 Jackie is naming the moves of each one of the "8 Immortals" of drunken fist techniques.
Chinese version, yes. English dub, no.
Yes when i first time saw this i asked myself why his acting like a girl. I watched in german and the german didnt chabge much it was just translated music the same everything. Then i watched the first drunken master and there i saw that in the style there was a girl style.
@@BetimAlimi the 8 immortals are Toaist dieties; Wikipedia's got a good breakdown of the styles!
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drunken_boxing#Daoist_style
I love Jackie chan he always take things seriously and perform his stunts to perfection but what makes him great is he always finds a place to add in a funny moment example would be where he tried to bite his dads finger when he pointed at him
Greetings from Germany...great reaction video,..as always. I just heard that Brad Allen has past away few days ago. On August 7th..sad News.. i love his style and also his comedy. He had so many talents...behind the camera, as a Stuntman & Stunt coordinator, Stunt rigger. Rest in Peace..
Watched a good amount of your reactions but when you mentioned Naruto , had to subscribe 👍
thanks for the sub mate! I loved that show, I am still working my way through shippuden as well but the episode count got me a bit fatigued!
These drunken master movies were Jackie's pet projects. I think some of the best, if not the best, action sequences in his movies are in these. They are highly underrated.
The Young Master end fight scene is amazing. The Cantonese version is longer than the dub.
Yes! His oponant Hwang In Shik is actually a 10th degree blackbelt in Hapkido!
@@ukguy His kicking skill is very impressive
@@Los-Sanchez616 It's one of my favourite fight scenes from old school kung fu flicks
Gotta love the drunken fist!
Also, I hope to see your reaction to the Daredevil vs. Punisher fight scenes. Those are gnarly.
Drunken master was the first Jackie chan film I watched. Amazed me with his acrobatic martial arts
If you loved this one, you need to see the Clubhouse fight scene from Rumble in the Bronx. In my opinion, that is the perfect Jackie Chan fight, it has everything, Furniture appliances, a shopping cart, prop fighting and a Ski get's involved.
Around 0:28 that serious looking fellow is Ho Sung Pak and that guy was the original Liu Kang for the MK games.
Jackie’s fight scene in thunderbolt that ends in the elevator, I think he trained a lot for it, because his kicks is more smooth
I love all his films
So much fun. I felt like I'm a kid watching my favorite cartoon.
Thee best! ❤️😍
That movie is real classic. I watched it when I was a kid.
Bro dope shirt man!!! Really wish I had one like that lol
Best MA choreography ever.
Period.
And it's criminal that the movie now seems to be unavailable in many countries.
Just as well torrents exist, or gen Z onwards would be unable to see the outstanding efforts of the cast and crew on this film.
Always was one of my favorite Jackie Chan films, also R.i.p Anita Mui
Jackie Chan drunken master did the greatest job in making me understand drunken boxing style. Loved it when a character in video games uses that style. ✌️
Eyy can't wait for you to react to the final fight, the greatest fight scene ever.
I love this film, you should do a video of the final fight.
I love " monkey rolls barrel" or as you called it the " washing machine" it makes me smile every time.
I knew there will be a furniture involved , this is a sentence that will make laugh for a long time
I like Jackie chan but never saw this movie... This scene put a smile on my face from ear to ear.. i guess i will have to hunt this movie down and give it a watch
With drunken fist there are two principles that apply. The first is knowing how and when to tense and having the muscle control to relax all of you. It is a lot like the principles in popping and locking. The other is every action must have an equal and opposite reaction. If you watch closely you can see how he uses a lot of circular motion on one side to drive the power on the other, especially with the hands. Often you'll see one hand moving forward as the other moves back but it's in a half circle motion, long or short, depending on how he wants to generate power. It's a very circular style, as are many Chinese arts and that feeds into the weapon styles which are also far more circular in effect than many of the arts from other cultures, especially eurocentric.
Agreed. Those principles also provide a lot of lot of room for deception, which is the whole reason for the drunken aspect: The trick is to APPEAR drunker than you actually are; you want your opponent to underestimate you. Being somewhat drunk probably improves flexibility and pain tolerance, but this style requires unbelievable balance and control; something you would lose if you were seriously inebriated. Also, to your second point, the action/reaction aspect has an additional function: it's sleight of hand to mask where your true attacks are coming from. What might look like a staggering off balance flail is secretly perfectly balanced and full of calculated power. I think it would be like the difference between an accidental backhand and a full on spinning backfist; one is incidental contact, the other is a sincere attempt to knock your head off lol.
Great movie! The martial artist that plays his dad is Ti Lung Pow I believe that is how is written. True old school martial artist from th 70's through the 80's.
One of my favorite things about this fight is how Jackie Chan just beat the crap out of 5 people, but then Ti Lung shows up at the end and is able to counter every move Jackie throws at him. Can't beat dad.
Imagine if the dad fought those 5 guys.
Also there another old Asian man Jackie dad could not beat
"What's it mean when there's a picture of a skull?" - That line had me in stitches. I've never seen the movie before but now I want to XD
This movie is full of amazing stunts and jokes!
You need to react to the final fight in this film!!!! It's amazing.
This movie is great! When I wasn't laughing at him and his mother I was just amazed at Jackie's fighting!
One important aspect to this style is pretty much just mind games. Obviously in the movie he's getting drunk for real, but in reality the point is to make your opponent think you're drunk and pretty much defenseless.
Great reaction! I have always been a big fan of his. I have 52 films of his in my collection, so far. If you haven't already take a look at the Russian fight scene in Skiptrace. Not only is it great but you have Jonny Knoxville in it too!
That "sassy" woman who plays his mom in this movie is Anita Mui, who also plays the store owner in Rumble in the Bronx. She is actually a Cantopop Diva in Hong Kong and is known as the Madonna of Asia.
I can do the "Crane lifting wine barrel" but it is a struggle, and he makes it look so easy.
I saw him doing the drunken style, but the time period was much further back. Love Jackie Chan. His out-takes are also outrageous.
The scene in the restaurant is even better. The bamboo smack down.
My dream is to one day fight professionally and bring “new” techniques and strikes to the game . Everyone hates on styles but I like what Donnie yen said once in Ip Man, “it’s not about the style, it’s about the martial artist”.
jackie is a legend!
Jackie Chan always puts a smile on my face.
The first Drunken Master has him do each Drunken God Awesome job
Did you notice when he pulled the cork out of the bottle, he threw it at the guy he was fighting. When the guy reacted, he was able to take the bottle and move away. Look at it in slow motion.
You should do a video review of the final fight for this movie! That fight is just amazing!
Cool shirt!
Your laugh is beautiful
Anita Mui (who plays the step-mother), was sometimes considered the Chinese "Lucille Ball", for her ability to bring that unique style of humor to her roles.
0:27 I believe that is Ho-Sung Pak. He modeled for Liu Kang and Shang Tsun in Mortal Kombat & Mortal Kombat 2 and also starred in the 1995 TV series WMAC Masters as well as roles in movies like Bloodrayne. Going by Wikipedia, he mainly works as a stunt man now.
Just to mention if not already: the dad did mention the restrictions of the drunken fists- you have to get it right the amount of alcohol you drink, you do not get drunk, you have to get it to a stage which your body is numb. When your body do not feel pain anymore, that is where this fist gets its power from. Without pain, you attack harder, faster with no fear. But the problem is your body will get used to this, and your body will need more alcohol each time to reach this stage, until you become a total alcoholic. That is why the dad restricts him in using this skill as much as possible.
Yeah that's the part I didn't get coz his drunken master style Jackie Chan is so tough but his dad was able to counter ever move.
dedication to the arts aside, one other reason is that back then, hk movies doesnt have a tight schedule, and most of the time, the director or stunt coordinators plan their fight on the spot. Jacky would take his time, reshoot all day long, until he is satisfied
The mom was played by Anita Mui, 10 years younger than Jackie Chan. Check out her biopic movie Anita (2021).
When he smiles and put the fingers out he is using the immortal woman He. Originally drunken boxing was called zui ba xian quan: 8 drunken immortals boxing, based on the figure of this 8 mythological immortals. The drunken style is basically 8 styles in one, so every immortal you imitate has a distinctive technique. For example when he is balanced on one leg it is the immortal Li a cripple that walks with one cane, when he move the hands to the sides is a flutist, when he moves around the hands like holding a barrel is another immortal, etc. For this film tho Jackie created his own techniques as well, for example the cork opener when he jumps head front rotating his body. Your observation about being able to absorb hits is correct, also being a Taoist style it tries to be very fluid and imitate nature by using circular motions. The use of gravity is also very important in drunken style, you could let your body fall like a rag doll but in a controlled matter, kinda like when you are drunk and lose balance but try to gain balance again... if used in the right way it makes it really hard for the opponent to predict your next move and also allows for weird attacks like backwards graving the throat with the wine cap hand... also this hand is very strong when you turn it and you hit with the end of the arm and combining it with the elbow absorption and attacks moves is really powerful.
4:49 who just throws out a headbutt psycho crusher like that. what a god. they should have called this movie Legend of the Genius Choreographer.
Jackie Chan in an Ikea store would be unstoppable :))
In the Docs My Story or My Stunts Jackie talked about how in these movies to help him appear drunk on screen he’d put his head between his legs & let the blood rush to it so he’d go bright red lol & then the veins showing as well
Love your clips from different movies cuz I know they are awesome. I was wondering if u can find a clip from Jackie Chan in Police story the first one and check out the last part of the film where he’s fighting in the mall. It’s the best fighting u will see.
This is my fav jackie chan movie ever. The fight scenes are impeccable. Also i can relate, i used to be in sales and when i would drink on the job i was like the fucking wolf of wall street like i was unstoppable lol, but obviously a bad habit.
I always, ALWAYS wanted to learn Drunken Fist, but could never find an instructor. My former sifu, finally got irritated and told me in no uncertain terms - He did not teach Drunken Fist. Of course what *REALLY* baked my noodle..? was that he then proceeded to tell me, in gruesome detail, the level of conditioning required, before one should even consider studying Drunken Fist. Long story short..? upon hearing how how hilariously lacking I was, I opted for his Chen style Tai Chi classes. (I also suspect he didn't want me barfing on his floor, which was possible, given that back then I tended to block w/my head...)
Jackie was no spring chicken when he filmed Legend of Drunken Master, so I can only guess how badly he ached after each shoot...
Nice vid. Thanks for sharing it.
This was a great movie. Jackie is so good.
Thank you for not being overly critical about movie fight scenes. There are a lot of “instructors “ who ruin it.
The most important aspect of these fight scenes is fun (especially Jackie Chan) so I always try and take them the way they are intended and not too seriously c:
Really confusing and unpredictable for the enemy's
Ohhh baby! Definitely love this movie and the first one as well. The best way to do Drunken Fist is by drinking lots of alcohol! That’s the secret
i had never done "druken fist" BUT there was one TAO in my style of taichi ( fighting type) that was based on it! You don't forcibly drink will fighting drunking style you act like drunk mostly! The basis was to be unpredictable and more than "resisting" a hit taking it and using the momentum!
For exemple if a hit thow you on the floor you have technics for the time you hit the floor and for when you ARE on the floor same with "out of balance" "showing your back" and everything! the very basic is to be able to fight in any positions with the most unpredictability possible! it's too said to most of the time smile weirdly and move weirdly to throw of guard your oponent without him bein able to " read" your movements!
It's an unortodox technic that like all tech have good and bad part but the main goal is to disturb your oponent with your acting and strange movements! it's Hard for most non practitioners of the arts or "derivated" arts to undertand the ectic style wich is the goal! If a brain can process on a fighting style he will take time to be able to have a gasp on your movements and that will delay hus action! i hope i was clear, but don't forget you don"t need to be drunk or even drink to use it you must more " don't know yourself what you will do next"!
Jackie Chan in IKEA!
1:04 that dude would have been totally out after those two elbows lol.
Everyone gangsta until Jackie Chan gets drunk
Unless you are dad
Drunken Style
Lady Plays The Flute
Was the name of that.
That arm
merry go round
maneuver was him spinning a wine jug around without spilling or dropping it.
The Drunken Master
W/ Sam Seed
will show you also that break dance 🕺 shit also 🤣🤣
Fun fact; after the last bottle, Jackie starts narrating his techniques. At 5:13 he's doing "eagle carries wine bottle" 🤣
So much fun to call all the Drunken God styles he cycles through. God Carrying a Pot, God with a Strong Leg, God Playing the Flute, God with Powerful Grip, and of course The Goddess Miss Ho.
I love drunken master 2
Rock Lee - Kimimaro fight is almost an exact copy of the previous movie Drunken Master
I would like to see the final fight of "the prodigal son"! it is epic
Jackie is probably the most entertaining martial artists to watch on film
Gotta look at Rumble in the Bronx with Jackie
@4:38 the guy Jackie is fighting, Jackie had a lot of problems with him also that guy also was Liu Kang's Sprite in the first Mortal Kombat Game
the subtitle just gave up when Jackie yell out different forms and routines he was using in the fight lol
A Jackie Chan fight in an Ikea store would be one 90 min long fight scene that takes like 15 years to choreograph.
omg what is that spinning headbutt flying attack he does
Jackie Chan- Im For World Peace and Gangsters- GET HIM!!!! *Every Jackie Chan Movie Ever Made*
The first drunken master movie explains some of the "lore" from the style. The moves come from different deities, and at least one deity is a female. Which explains the eye poke moves and the more feminine stances
rock lee and jackie chan what a match up
