That is actually one of my all time favorite fight scenes.
Personally, for me, this is my 2nd favourite..
My top favourite is final fight in Drunken Master 2.
Same. Blew me away when I saw it for the first time and it still does
I would say it’s my favorite Jackie Chan fight scene
@@213chewy same, followed close by the one against Brad Allan in Gorgeous
@@Tenpouin it’s really hard to pick since he has so many amazing fight scenes
Watched Who Am I? multiple times as a kid. Was one of my first Jackie films.
我是中国人。The second one is GIGN French kick
Hilariously, it was actually my very first Jackie film.
One of the great things about Jackie Chan fights is that the choreography always makes him work for the win. You watch him get beaten up in a way that rarely happens with Bruce Lee (or, more recently, Jet Li or Donny Yen) - like the sore shins after all those leg checks. It humanises his heroes in a way that makes you root for them even more.
Exactly. He's always at a disadvantage, and he doesn't win because he suddenly pulls out some mystical secret technique that gives him the edge, or otherwise has some plot armour on his side - he wins purely because he doesn't give up.
@@josephgriffiths9151
And don't forget that one of his perks is his stamina and the ability to soak so much punishment from his enemies.
If you pause at 3:56 - you can clearly see it's one of Jackies stuntmen, Brad Allen. He also played in Gorgeous as hired fighter for Jackie's competiors.
There's some BTS stuff out there that showed Jackie getting really frustrated 'cause Smoorenburg kept moving too close to him after the double kick at 3:57. "Stay where you are, don't chase me!"
Edit: ruclips.net/video/AQ91MusSBv4/видео.html
@@Tekkenfanaat Let's give Smoorenburg his due though. He is an amazing kicker!!!
I thought he looked much shorter there
I don't know if it's clear, but I can see that.
@@Tekkenfanaat right jackie needed him to hit his mark not come toward him with his kicks to maintain the distance. This of course keep jacking from being accidently hit. Jackie prefer to work with his own team for this reason as he trust them know how to kick without making contact.
This is one of Jackie's most impressive and humorous well choreographed and great acted fight scenes he's done. And that's saying something cuz he's done tens of thousands probably.
我是中国人。The second one is GIGN French kick
So the Chinese henchman was using Choy Li Fut, a Southern Chinese style known for its powerful arcing punches. The basic philosophy is that you condition the hell out of your arms and use them as battering rams. While some of its movements may appear to leave the fighter open, the first swing is usually the setup for the second swing, which is the hit (ie, the first swing destroys the guard and the second swing fills that opening). The guy here put on a great display of it in his first bout with Chan with his wide swings and seamless spinning punches.
I always wondered this! Thank you.
I like that the style seems to incorporate elbows or he might’ve just been adapting and going with the flow.
Thats cool. I also just noticed after all this time his last line I think was dubbed by Jackie himself. I guess he didn't speak English cause it sounds like he had multiple voices for different lines
Fun Fact this was Jackie's one of the last movies under Golden Harvest
Incorrect. That would be Accidental Spy.
Fun Fact: You have your facts wrong. Clown.
"One Of the"
This is still one of my favorite fight scenes of all time to this day.
Hard to go wrong with Jackie Chan
@@BurridgeMartialArts604 True, but when are you going to do Godzilla vs King Kong? 🐱🐱🐱
The Dutch kickboxer is so goddamn fluid and nearly flawless with his movement. Some of the best kicks that I've ever seen.
Also, when you said “they apparently hired someone else for the footwork” that was Bradley Allen. A friend and protege of Jackie’s who sadly, passed away this year. He fought Jackie in the movie “Gorgeous”. Great fight scene. RIP to Bradley 🙏
and that is an absolutely great movie from the silly story up to the final fight and the video clip montage in between xD
not all the footwork -- just 1 combo
Just for the combo after the leg holding, rest is all Ron!
Glad you have respect for Jackie. I own 70 of his films.
Anything from 1983 to 2000 are great options for reactions!!!
I must say that’s a impressive collection but my all time favorite is super cop
😯😯😯
I agree,… now I don’t watch his new movies after that
@@matttalks81mw My is City Hunter!
@@matttalks81mw meet the cop that can't be stopped.
Jackie Chan, Yuen Biao, and Sammo Hung are the best Trio Action Movies you'll see. Extreme Acrobatics man.
Check out 'My Lucky Stars' as it has all three.
Agree. Wheels on Meal, Project A, Dragons Forever, Police Story…. and so on
Sammo Hung is a testament that fatties can also be quick moving
Thanks for the reaction. Filmed in my home city of Rotterdam in The Netherlands.... this was shot on the Maasstad building (the one which he slides down from) near the city centre! I can actually see a couple of places I used to live in the shots. A lot of Dutch fighters in this movie if I remember correctly.
That's so cool! I haven't seen the whole movie before so can't speak to the amount of Dutch fighters, but it would be waste if they didn't use as many as they could. So much talent coming out of the Netherlands!
a lot of Dutch angles too lol
I thought it was Australia due to insurance reasons.
Despite their age, Sammo, Yuen and Jackie remain physically fit to do action fight scenes. Such an amazing trio
End fight from Drunken Master 2. Ken Lo (Jackie's bodyguard) was insane with the kicks in that.
jackie chan is such a detail fanatic, the fight scenes flow so well, its just a pleasure to watch
2:43 i spiled my drink when that dude saw what jackie did to other guy with his jacket he immediately took off his jacket.
I've always felt like the fight scenes from this movie and Rumble in the Bronx were heavily slept on. Classic stuff from early Jackie. Legend
The south african’s technique and the movie blood sport are what got me into martial arts
Brad Allen is from 3:54 to 4:00 replacing Ron Smoorenburg because Ron couldn't do choreography without moving forward where choreography required him to hold place while performing the kicks. So Brad Allen did the job, and it's quite noticable because in that shot the character is shorter then Jackie Chan while Ron is few heads taller then Jackie :-D
Never the less Ron performed very well here both choreographywise and actingwise. Definitelly movie that inspired me a lot to improve myself in martial arts. Such a good performance by everyone in this movies.
Probably my favorite Jackie Chan movie. Hugely entertaining, fun-ass movie.
This is my favorite Jackie Chan movie and this is my favorite scene from it!!
3:55 for that scene they took Bradl Allen because the big guy couldn´t manage not to hit Jackie in this scene XD
Yeah, I read bout that, Jackie was angry on that guy for kicking Jackie for real, and u can really see that the guy in the action is much smaller
I didn't pay attention but know you said it, I can't unsee it. The size difference lol
Actually, to be precise, it wasn't that guy hitting Jackie. Jackie clearly stated that if he attacks moving forward, he must block moving backward. HOWEVER, JACKIE DOES NOT WANT TO BLOCK MOVING BACKWARD. However, Smoorenburg had great difficulty with timing and distance gauging that he kept moving forward while striking, but Jackie does not want to move back.
You can also see Smoorenburg had great problem with just timing alone. After many retakes, he still missed a simple timing mid choreography. Jackie already moved, but Smoorenburg was still turning.
Jackie can easily pull a Mayweather and just move back, but they are doing a specific planned choreography and Smoorenburg just apparently was never trained to kick at the pads in the same spot. Jackie just asked him to place his kicks at the same spot in front of him, but the guy kept kicking past the striking point designated.
Imagine me as a coach training a complete fighter. Moving forward is ONE good drill, but a complete fighter must adjust their strikes' contact points, distance, etc. So, instead of just moving back for my fighter, I would hold the pad at the same spot and tell him to pinpoint strike it. That's all Jackie was asking. Clearly Smoorenburg's coach only moved backwards for him, so Smoorenburg actually experienced some new drills while filming this, ironically.
Brings to mind fighters like Pacquiao who can punch with speed and power moving in all directions, and even change impact point and adjust contact integrity mid strike on a moving opponent. Jackie was just asking Smoorenburg to strike the designated points, but Smoorenburg kept on striking past the designated points. that's like me holding the pad, not moving back for him, then he kicks deeper than the pad.
so the guy who stands in for the dutch kickboxer i think is brad allan. the same guy who choreographed the fighting scenes for marvel's shangchi its soo cool to see how much he had progressed in his career. rip to the legend 🙏
Oh there is no thinking it's Brad Allan cause it is him lol.
3:55 onwards’ series of kicks were done by Bradley Allen, from Jackie’s stunt team. Many of the leg-only kick shots were Bradley too, because the other guy had mismatched timing for a choreographed fight.
@3:57 is the part that I was talking about where Brad Allen had to come in and land the choreography cause the actor couldn't get it right. You can notice the size difference, Brad is like 5'5
Brad looks shorter than 5’5”. Probably 5’3”.
Brad's a star here
Watching jackie when still young make me like an old man
My favorite part of Jackie’s fighting in movies is he takes a lot of hits. It always feels like he’s just on the verge of victory or defeat which really keeps you drawn in.
Fun fact the tall lanky guy couldn’t get the time n rhythm right & kept hitting Jackie so Bradly Allen was brought in to Double the guy. Those Flying Kicks into round house & spin kicks & speed kicks are all Bradly
Sadly, the Director of this movie died in 2020 - he was a seriously talented Action Director, with this being one of his first
Best Jackie Chan fight scenes in no particular order:
Gorgeous
Wheels on Meals
Project A
Drunken Master 2
Who Am I.
What a list sir 🙏 Police Story mall fight scene has to be there too. Armor of God fighting the monks never gets old either
@@litttlewing all the fights are great. It's Jackie after all. I focused on fights with less acrobatics and more fisticuffs.
Dragons Forever
Iunno. The ending brawl in Rumble in the Bronx...
@@macdaddymario too short.
I hate heights too. Just seeing that view to street below caused cold sweat to come out of my palms.
the first ever Jackie chan movie I ever saw and the reason he is my all time favourite actor
I am watching all your videos out of order but i really appreciate someone else that can see the martial arts moves in these scenes. I hope it goes amazingly for you and keep it up, I love the videos!
I grew up on this, being born in the 90s. There weren't many great ways to get Jackie's movies other than VHS at the time, so these things were treasures.
This is one of my Jackie Chan favourite fight scene's. Over all the movie was actually pretty good.
This fight scene is unbelievable! To choreograph the entirety would have taken so long!
Thanks for breaking it down
One of my fav JC movies. This is the fight scene that got me into Jackie Chan movies and ultimately extending to Jet Li and other HK martial arts flix.
love how the other guy takes his jacket off right after the rope a dope scene,
and 30 shin kicks give or take 2
the fight in dragons forever is also good, with Sammo and Yuen. Awesome Vid
I used to think that Dude that was mostly using kicks was so sick... like how does his legs move like that😅
professional kickboxer
The best stuntman in the world, maybe in history bar non,
One of the all time greats
jackie has brought me years and years of entertainment that is bar none to others. that kickboxer had perfect kicks and his flexibility was amazing too.
"Yeah, yeah...I've watched the scene a thousand times already...", I said and still clicked the video😅
You can never see enough Jackie Chan!
I think there was some inspiration here for the final fight in Merantau.
I remember when I first saw Who am I. I was I think 20... JC's rooftop fight scene isn't just the greatest fight scene in his movie career, it's the greatest fight scene in cinematic history! I know... that's probably hyperbolic, but it is really badass!
Just remembering that these scenes were actually recorded on top of the building, there are no visual effects, no green screen in the background or anything like that, there it was on the basis of good old courage. 👊🏿😎
Mate I would never be able to do this, not just because I'm nowhere near as good as Jackie Chan, but the heights would do me in
@@BurridgeMartialArts604 I also don't like height 😅
I love the shirt, man!!! 👍🏾
Thanks mate!!!!
Hey man. I love the Jackie Chan fight scene reacts. I definitely had some of the same reactions and thoughts when I was watching his movies. For your fans out there, I am not sure if they ever saw some of the young Jackie in his prime kinda movies. I definitely recommend you react to his fight in Wheels on Meals with Benny the Jet Urquidez and his Police Story movie (The one where jumps onto a pool with lights on it. It's one of his epic stunts).
First ever martial arts flick I ever watched. Still looks great.
You can't help but love what he does and admire the skill of Jackie those he hires for this stuff
2:10 and also 3:55 are different stunt guys. The ladder with amazing kicks is Bradley James Allan cause as you said the Dutch guy had trouble with the choreography.
new favourite channel. Love reliving this stuff. Used to collect Hong Kong Legends DVDs and still have quite a collection. Looking forward to seeing if you discover some more Sammo or Yuen Biao too. Eastern condors was breathtaking first time I watched it.
I love your videos, more Jackie Chan reviews please
I always enjoyed a Jackie Chan movie, I am glad you did this reaction on this film, I am going to see this movie again.
Two legends in your video. Jackie Chan and that classic PlayStation logo on your T-Shirt. 🔥
also as mentioned the dutch kick boxer couldnt keep up.. the moments of fast fighting between the two was a stunt double. One of jackie's. If you go back and really watch after the camera cut... the bad guy mysteriously looses a lot of height. When the fight starts hes taller than jackie, but when the speed picks up hes myseriously almost the same height.
The kicks are by far the best I've ever seen, he's so impressive
3:00 I like how the other guy took off his tie, he's traumatised
In my opinion, this is the best fight scene in any movie. It's entertaining, technical, there are some masterful stunts (the parts with him flying at the edge of the building are real). It's truly peak Jackie Chan, and way up there on any list you could make for best fights for any actor/artist.
You gotta check out jackie chan vs benny the jet from Wheels on Meals, probably considered one of the greatest choreographed fight scenes of all times.
Planning that one for tomorrow!
Brad Allen (RIP) was the stunt double. Sadly passed away a few years ago far too young.
Those edge of the building shots get me every time.
Esse é o primeiro filme do Jackie Chan que assisti na minha vida!! É incrível!
That's the mastery of Jackie, using the environment in the fight. He used to barrier against the guy that had the kicking advantage, and then when they fought 2 on 1, he used the environment at some point to only have one opponent at a time
nobody has ever done it better than him
I haven't seen this movie in so long. It was a fantastic fight scene.
YOU WANT MORE FIGHT...Love that line. Because he'll give it to you, with pleasure.
Dude, do a longer version of reaction to his whole movie. This is my favorite Jackie Chan movie, and one of the earliest that showed real bloopers and unanticipated situations, like the helicopter scene....
The fall Dutch guy is Rob Smoorenburg and he's a stunt coordinator working in Thailand. He doesn't have a competition background worth mentioning. What he shows in terms of skill is definitely not kickboxing. I'm pretty sure he has a taekwondo background and I assume in Thailand he trains some kind of thaiboxing. He also had the national record for the highest kick in the 90s which seems like a taekwondo-esk thing.
I was just about to recommend The Forbidden Kingdom haha, more explanation on the drunken style fights
If u look closely alot of the parts with the long legged guy is actually brad allen from gorgeous due to this guy not being able to get the timing right
Ron Smoorenburg's Footwork double was Brad Allan apparently.
Might be my personal favorite Jackie movie...... Great channel btw
Yeah I watched this movie last week. So hard to find
Watching this making me want to watch Jackie Chan old movies again.
I love this movie and rumble in the brox I gotta find them on dvd ot Blu-ray
And also Jackie Chan jumping down in Building roof up there,it is exciting
Seen this at the cinema in 1998 was a great watch.
Certainly ℹ️☑️,
There's some good fights in The Foreigner, more serious than his other films. The pachinko half fight in Thunderbolt is worth a watch too.
Jackie chan adventures was just Fun!!! Uncle and his wisdom lol
I don’t blame you for afraid of heights. I get anxiety and sweaty feet just by looking over the buildings.
Check out the endfight of the film Master of the flying Guillotine. Jimmy Wang Yu knew already in the 70s what a Streetfighter game needs.
I know just a movie, but J Chan has a endurance and toughness like no other. Did I sound flowery there.
It's possible the guy in the pinstripe suit was using French Savate Kickboxing. He had a european accent.
I love Chinese action movies. The first guy definitely started the fight using a style based in Hungar. I can recognize it now.
Where I'm from we call that shins hahah and we played it quite often then we created a game call knuckles same concept
You can eve see at 4:33 the difference in the first guy with the guy they hired for some of the footwork. Different color hair and slightly different styling of it.
Jackie Chan is my Idol ❤️❤️❤️
You gotta do the final fight scene from Jackie Chan's Legend of the Drunken Master, it is literally one of the best scenes of his career, and is simply awe inspiring work.
I'll add it to the list!
The bit where the kick guys starts and you were saying oh wow was Brad Allen stunt doubling.
Ron Smoorenburg was not up to the same standard as Ken Lo and Brad Allen (RIP) did the double spin, kick sequence that made you exclaim. funny thing . Brad was shorter than Jackie and Ron much taller...so its fairly easy to spot the difference if you look closely.
The combination of moves at 3:55, that's JC stunt guy Brad Allan.
Who Am I is my favorite Jackie Chan movie and I'm sad that it's out of print and not available on any streaming platform :( I suppose I can always try eBay.
Yeah, I saw the Dutch fighter in Triple Threat aswell (you should watch some fight scenes from that movie, stacked with martial arts actors).
Love this Jackie Chan movie
Jackie Chan ain't no joke, man !!!
❤❤
ruclips.net/video/OogUUXaWVMI/видео.html
This whole combo is done by Brad Alan. You can see how the character all of a sudden becomes noticeably shorter. After that it's mostly Ron Smoorenburg, though. He uploaded a breakdown of this fight on his channel, where he showed where he and Jackie Chan were doubled.
This series of reaction vids is great and im happy to see so many people in the english speaking world giving jackie his props.
Just to add what may not be explicitly stated: for much of this fight and many of his others, jackie doesnt need objects or props to make a good fight scene. Sure he uses the cement bags, the earring, and the jacket, but those are far from being the most memorable moments of this fight. He is extremely good at choreo, storytelling, acting, and cinematography for fights, with or without props.
I think this is the best fight scene in any martial arts film. I love the clean kicking, its fantastic to watch.
absolutely one of the best ever!
I love you Jackie chan
