    I don't know what to say... thank you. I have to go vegan for health reasons. My son is allergic to chicken and all dairy products. I have veganized arroz con gandules, habichuelas, habichuelas guisadas and mofongo, but pasteles was something I dearly missed. Thanks so much. Te guillas.

      Why you missed pastel julissa Reyes may I ask I have been a vegan myself for the past 5 going on 6 yrs and I make my vegan pastels and I made them different types and different ways and they taste very good but this is the 2nd time I've seen it with ground provision but I've never tried it

    I have to say you did an amazing job at explaining everything in all details .. I am so excited to make these . I am married to a Puerto Rican woman and I am trying to get her family more on board with being vegan . And I just recently moved into my new home and I will be hosting thanksgiving this up coming year and I CANT WAIT TO TRY TO MAKE THESE . Thank you so much they looked absolutely delicious..     Made these yesterday for Christmas, they were amazing!! Only thing I did different was I used Fields Chipotle chorizo for the middle....nice kick and delicious taste to it!! Thank you!!!

    Thanks for your pasteles recipe. I've been making them for over half a century. It seems everyone has their own version. I substitute yucca/cassava for taro root. I use olive oil instead of vegetable oil and I substitute paprika instead of achiote. I find Achiote makes the oil too bitter. I leave out the pork and don't replace it with anything. For the filling I use corn niblets, capers, olives and diced potato. I make a big batch then cook and freeze them. I buy precut parchment paper on Amazon. It saves a lot of time when making 50 or more pasteles. So good with hot sauce and Spanish rice.

      +carlcat pasteles de yucca😍😍 yes!! I love those..and yes hot sauce and rice on the side is a must. I use to ask my mom to make them with nothing in then for me when I was a kid...i just love the Masa on it's own

    Shut the front door!!! My mother in law is Puerto Rican and came one weekend to visit with all the makings for pasteles! It took 2 days and we made 102! When my husband came home from fishing ( commercial fisherman 😏 yea I know!) he found them in the freezer! I’ve never had them again but miss them! I can’t wait to try this! In stead of taro root she used yuka is there a difference? Also! Please post in my group! Vegan food:it’s just food! Thank you thank you thanks you!!!😘😘😘❤️❤️❤️😬

      Lol wow yeah two days for that many sounds about right😂😂 I use to make them growing up with my mom Allll the time she use to sell them by the dozens. Yeap yucca and green banana ones are different..the yucca ones are much lighter and a little sticky I always say lol...I hated the yucca ones growing up and now I love them..maybe I'll make a video for those too...those are actually much easier to make but the green banana ones are the most traditional...and hubby being a fisherman? No judgement here..my husband isn't vegan and I'm fine with that

    How did you make the vegans grounds? I watched the steak recipe video. Did you grind it in a food processor? Did you grind it before or after using the marinade and browning in the pan?

    Your recipes are so beautifully presented. Do you think it might be easier to film if you had a tripod (freeing you up to use both hands for cooking).

      +Byron Murphy I use a tripod when I film with my usual setup.. This was a very pop up type setting up because of how labor intensive this recipe is

    Do you have a preference in using parchment paper or foil? Does it change the outcome of the pasteles?

      For convenience I like the aluminum foil..you don't have to tie them off or anything...also the taste is the same because you still use the banana leaves for both

    I want 😫😫😫 sadly I don't make enough stuff with bananas or plátanos since my husband if allergic.

      +Mike Lindsey you can still make them by completely subbing out all the veg with cassava root😉 AKA Yucca/yuca root...it's much more simple too..you just peel about 2 large Yuca roots and process them the same way. You will do the filling and all of that the same way and the end result will be a pretty little yellow pasteles rather then brown...you can look up Pateles de Yuca and see how simple it is😉😉💕

      Veggie Rose you've never had rhubarb, girl you've not lived, go to your local supermarket and pick one up, sprinkle some cinammon on top while cooling and serve with some vanilla soya custard on the side for dipping, this is a game changer, well its not, but its pretty good 😁

      Veggie Rose frozen, straight in the oven. Fresh, in sugar water boiling to soften, then add to a dish, top with crumble mix and place in the oven, I think it's an English thing, but if you e had apple crumble/pie, it's the same deal.

    A bit disappointed You didn’t go through how to make the vegan meat as that is a thing that would make vegan not everybody would know how to make.

      Ooooh sorry...I though you were asking about another video...I don't have a written recipe for this..this recipe is really eyeballed because the veggies you buy could be bigger or smaller and if I give you a recipe for different size veggies than the recipe wouldn't turn out right...so if you make it just follow the video and go with your instincts for flavor...it's honestly the best way to make these

    Yautia is yuca root not taro root. Taro root is like a quarter the size of yautia

      +petalk95 Yautia and Yuca are two completely different things...Yautia is taro root...Yuca is cassava which is WAY bigger and has a waxy peel.. pasteles are also made with Yuca/cassava and are much lighter in color and are a bit sticky in texture. I grew up making pasteles with my mom who used to sell them by the dozens..so I'm pretty familiar with viandas

      Yay to Latin vegans!!! Yautia in Cuban slang is malanga. I grew up in NYC with Boriquas, absolutely love them and Puerto Rican food.

      +Cuca Monga We also call it malanga🤗 I love Cubans too...I also grew up with cubans..my neighbors where Cuban when I was little and the mom use to make some killer ropa vieja...I plan on making a vegan version🤗💕

      Yautia is taro or malanga. It is brown and has a thin skin with a fuzzy coat. It is easier to peel. Yuca or Cassava is where tapioca is made from. Yuca is not that easy to peel, it is also brown but has a tougher, thicker skin. Both delicious when cooked.
