I worked in a nursing home setting for years and the number one thing the elderly struggled with most was loss of the ability to get in a car and drive.

That's why car dependency is so insane.
I actually love driving, I love pickups and sports cars.
That's actually part of why I want transportation to be less dependent on cars - less people on the road in my fucking way.
Germany has one of the lowest fatality rates per mile, and yet has highways with no speed limits. America needs to top that shit somehow.

@hellomate639 I live in a very rural area and drive 15 minutes to work all rural country roads with fields. I drive through 3 intersections everyday I know people have died on since about 60 years ago. It can happen anywhere. Still don't agree with less car driving. It's the only way to get to work around here. And it is freedom. I'm a defensive driver, don't trust people with stop signs. I have literally seen semis not stop at stop signs. And locals. Just because it's a rural road doesn't mean not to follow road signs!!! It's infuriating. So just have to really watch and slow down.

@@sonyacarlson5881 Think about it less as "less car driving," and "more convenient destinations that encourage people to gather together and get to know each other."
I'm not anti-car, not at all. I'm pro "build walking, biking, and train infrastructure" on top of having great roads.
Some stores don't need to be in a strip mall, like TJ Max and Target. Stores like Home Depot are better in strip malls with big parking lots.
Basically, anything that can go in a mall can go on a walkable street. We can do better on urban planning design. There's huge room for innovation. We just need to get out of our own way.

I’m offended by freedom that infringes on my personal freedom and privacy. That imposes itself on my consciousness and ego boundaries. That prods at me in the unseen spiritual realm and physically and sexually abuses me. And those who consent to it being diseases into their lives regardless because they are committing a transgression and it is sexually immoral even if they themselves do not regard it to be so. Their body keeps the score of the trauma as per the Dr Bessel Van Der Kolk book of the same name. They may have learned to callous themselves to deal with this harshness of life however regardless so many peer reviewed studies demonstrate that sexual abuse causes significant damage to the amygdala and a persons capacity to regulate their emotions. Not everything that is pleasurable to you is good for you in a holistic sense and especially illicit pleasure gleaned by ill gotten means will cause such confusion inside a person - how many boys have grown up feeling they were not heterosexual because they were abused by some perverted man and because stimulus-response would dictate that the body responds they have feelings of extreme depression, trauma, emotional scars that plumb deep at the betrayal of their trust and yet the body responded even so. They wind up as deeply messed up individuals in their adult years. People have all kinds of mental health issues from sexual abuse and that’s why 666 is a detestable way of life…

Also, as a gen Z person who's fed up with the current state of the automotive industry, cars in the '60s were so much better. It was the time when cars had everything I need and nothing more: a big engine that's easy to service, simple mechanics, air conditioning and a radio. I currently drive a 2006 Mazda, sure that car has, in addition to the aforementioned features, a CD player (my dad's left old Guns & Roses, Nirvana, Bon Jovi etc CD's in the car when he passed it down to me, and his new car has Bluetooth) cruise control (which I've never used, my foot can modulate the speed consistently) and ABS (knock on wood, I never needed it yet, I was taught well).

I've always been a very independent being and loved coming and going as I pleased. After I was widowed the car insurance, license tags and maintenance became too costly on social security and had to give up my car.
My husband was a homebody, but he enjoyed riding shotgun on weekends. We would drive to the woods or an outdoor swapmeet or just whatever struck my fancy. I really miss him!
I live less than a mile to the market and walk over with a cart. I have friends who give me a ride to church and such. I miss just jumping in the car on a whim whenever I get a "scathingly brilliant idea" for a sewing or garden project. Planning things out in advance takes some of the joy out of doing some things.
I've gotten closer to one of my church friends who is also a widow, but she's a bit reclusive and I've been drawing her a little bit out of her comfort zone. It was a big deal for her to drive me to a farmer's market. She did enjoy it and I was glad to get the fresh fruits and vegetables and a couple of tomato plants.
Anyway, walking and sunshine are very good for this 77 year old body 😊

I think you guys are missing the point. He's not saying that public transportation is bad. All he is saying is that there are people (generally those who want total control over populations) who hate cars because it gives a person the freedom to go wherever they want whenever they want. You can take public transportation, but you rely on THEIR schedule & go to where they determine. There's nothing like being to get in your car and just go, and be able to change your mind if you want, and carry with you all the stuff you want. It's about freedom. With public transportation, you have to go on their schedules and you're limited in many ways.

      @seekingtruth1623 Месяц назад

@hellomate639 Christ never reasoned healing, sicknesses. He always rebuked them. Reason is man's wisdom. It is below God's written word. In the NT, I remember years ago, there were 4 spirits that Christ rebuked, and one was the spirit of reason. Our thoughts are to be placed under the Word. Man's therapy/ psychology does not acknowledge the supernatural power of spirits in relation to sicknesses. Therapy is not healing. It is like going to AA. One can learn to live with the spirit, but the root is still there. Bondage. Deliverance is healing. Spiritual infirmities are mental and physical strongholds of the mind. The truth is blocked by spirits. Reading the word allows the spirit of God to communicate supernatural understanding to an individual as the individual grows in the wisdom of God. A verse will reveal the heart condition opening the path of awareness leading to deliverance. Bpd people, some, have placed man/ father/ mother/ above God. They continually seek a parent figure through partners. I wanted God to stop my pain by making them do right. That was wrong thinking/ stronghold. I didn't even know I thought that way, but a little purging brought it to light. I turned from God's way/ wisdom for my own. God recently answered me with not a God of bondage but choice and free will. I had in my past opened the door for entry. I then sought out ways to FIX it myself in other relationships. I was disconnected from God feeling abandoned. People pleasing or placing a man above God is idolatry of man. People who do this attract people who want worship, usually narcissists, and self idolatry. The two feed each other, and torment reigns for that is the purpose for the union, to get them to turn to God. The bpd wants the narcissist to do good. The narcissist wants vengeance and for the bpdp to become as he is. It is spiritual bondage of mental strongholds and spiritual infirmities. They both have left God because they want Him to do something for them. He will not go outside of His Word to accommodate us. We must FIRST leave our wants and do as He says, and then we have passed the test.We are to be as Christ, merciful. Not using manipulations/ withcraft or wrath. God revealed everything to me over years. It is a journey of healing and deliverance, men being made perfect. God told me that He is not in the pain or going there to fix the situation. He said I'm over here on the cross calling you to come and rest. My deliverance from mental torment came after I broke. I finally gave up on the situation. God said my pain was not from them hurting me but from me looking and giving them attention, I was led to JOB 21, 22. I CAUSED my pain when I focused on what the evil were doing, which is unhealthy and a sin. We have dominion over ourselves, not others. God said He is not going over to where they are to do what I want, He said He has passed His test, and that this is my test. This was given AFTER I said I will read after You fix my pain. We have dominion over pain, but we do not have dominion over others. He said HE IS WHERE THE SUFFERING ARE. AND THAT I am to pursue love, not give attention to evil.

I agree there are genuinely loads of advantages to cars, they can do wonders for people specifically in rural settings among many others, but whether they are an efficient way of moving people around medium to highly densely populated urban areas is a different issue and one on which a lot urban designers agree they just aren’t. Governments have many arbitrary laws about minimum/ maximum parking spaces and specifically design road infrastructure with car and not cycling or pedestrian access in mind, which is in effect shielding car use as a method of travel from the mechanisms and tests of the free market, which im sure you could all agree isn’t exactly freedom? If other transportation methods were given equal consideration by the government then the free market would ultimately prioritise the most efficient method of travel in each specific setting (i.e metro and bike in denser cities, cars in more rural areas and trains between large population centres).

      Respect for saying that.
And at the same time, it makes me think you'd be a decent and aware driver.
I'm 50/50 with cars because yes, it's beneficial for me to have one, but it's a money guzzler and in an accident the car is like paper. But I still need it.
I don't think they're a necessity in the first place. They certainly are for some of us, but More just a matter of money and convenience for some people. I have a coworker who lives like a 10 minute walk from her job, and she still drives (and it's not, for health reasons, towards the top of K2, or through a shooting rally). It's a nice rounded street along the flower park. And I hate being reminded that I drive to work too. Because she hates it when I have to park in her favorite spot. But I drive for almost an hour, about 75% is the way over hills and in no-man's land, while she could be walking in the fresh air. I have a car to work, to transport my family and supplies.
While I agree that cars bring freedom and comfort, they still have their big buts.
I'll never forget what my dad told me when I got my driving license, that now I have one foot in jail and one foot in the grave, even if I drive like a god, I'll never know what kind of drivers will be on the same road with me. Three years after that we were hit by a drunk driver at the crossroads, who thought red lights meant GO faster.
More people should be dangerous like you!
      PS: sorry about the length
      Edit:
I think those who prefer to drive only see the benefits of driving, and I get it. But like I said, driving is not a problem for me, with rentals, bigger, longer or trailers...But I know not everyone is that responsible, I meet those drivers every day who overtake dangerously because they are in a hurry to watch the TLS. Or the ones who even though they know they've been drinking, or have used god knows what, and think how big macho they are, and how they know how to drive a car, and then they're on the road with us. At that point, those drivers and their cars become lethal weapons.
I think those who have been in an accident because of people like that will have this feeling of distrust in other drivers.
      It certainly does to me.

I love cars and I love driving. I don't find them dangerous and driving doesn't make me nervous because I know how to drive. I don't care if they are more expensive, I would never choose to enter a big, dirty, loud, smelly bus filled with strangers, that doesn't go fast enough and it doesn't stop exactly where my destination is if there is the option to get there by car. I literally cannot remember the last time I took a bus. It was probably some time in 2018 or 2019.

I'm as much a J.B.P. fan as the next guy, but I cannot understand why Jordan seems to love cars so much. They're dangerous, and lead to poor city design. I bike everywhere for my daily routine, and the number of times I've been hit or almost hit by a car is ludicrous. And I live in an area on the safer end of things. No, I wouldn't ban cars or anything like that, there are plenty of good use cases for them, but the fact is that (at least in the U.S.) we have an over-dependency on cars.
EDIT: To make my point more clear, I am not arguing against the validity of Jordan's point that cars are linked to a sense of freedom, but rather against the almost extremist stance he seems to be taking. I don't think that disliking cars makes one a dangerous person.

I've been endangered by cyclists, 100s of times as a driver. Many do not follow the rules and jump lights or do not stop at lights. You can make the arguments for and against both. It's not bikes or cars, it's the people driving/cycling who are the problem. If everyone followed the rules and showed consideration for other road users cars and bikes would be perfectly safe.

@@cherylwilkinson92 First off, don't mistake my unbelief as anger, I'm just trying to understand. I can believe that there were plenty of times you and a biker almost collided, which would have been bad for the both of you and certainly may have damaged your vehicle, but how exactly are cyclists a danger to you while you are inside your car? The only way I can see a bike becoming a danger to you is if a biker forces you to pull a dangerous maneuver, which I can't see happening all that often
