One thing I would add: When possible, try to SEE all of the watches you're considering in person. Can't tell you how many times a watch has looked amazing online, but missed the mark in person. Can also go the other way too; looks terrible online, but amazing in person. This also applies to colors, as well. Not always possible with used and older watches, but to the maximum extent possible!
Agreed. You will find that many of the opinions people share online don't translate when you have the piece on your wrist. For example, I found the 37mm Seiko 5 field watch looks great on my 8" wrist (when put on the right strap), even though the consensus online is that it would look like a child's watch on me.
It’s awesome to see your success Teddy! Coming from watching your videos years ago to now you have your own store getting more and more brands on board is seriously impressive!

Couldn't agree more with the video. Viability for your lifestyle: There are a lot of cool dress watches out there, but i would never wear them so i just appreciate them. Brand & Story: Watches not only tell time, they tell stories and what would be better than tell yours
I just bought an Emporio Armani AR60053. I 100% knew that the brand isn't Swiss made nor a company who makes strictly watches but it looks amazing, wasn't the cheapest of the range at around 500€. I'm happy with it and I couldn't care less if someone looks down on my purchase for it not being a Seiko or Omega.
The greatest advice here was try the on first then decide what to buy, i was saving up for the prx, but when i tried it on it was large for my wrist, but when i tried the Tissot Gentleman, it was perfect for my wrist although they both have the same case size. Another great video teddy!
My experience exactly - I'd gone in looking to buy a PRX as my first "serious" watch, and walked out with the Gentleman. Wrist is 7-1/2, but the PRX was just too chunky for my taste. Give me great looks, under 11 mm, and I'm interested. I end up with a lot of manual and quartz movements, which is fine by me... not many people have jobs that adequately wind an auto anyhow. (Bartenders and delivery people; who else? )
Agree strongly especially with the point about whether a watch actually matches what you do and what you will wear. I bought an expensive dress watch for myself for my 50th. I seldom wear it, as I would wreck it in months. Gone back to a steel sports watch I can wear in the garden, cycling, skiing, travelling. Not a better watch, but a better match.
I had the best watch moment today. My mother wanted to show me a couple of her watches and, just like that, out of a undisclosed box, I found two treasures: a Ticin manual wind square vintage watch and a Sector chronograph. I am so happy right now, my geek senses are going insane 😍
Amazing. I don't know how long you've been doing this, but you seem to have come out of nowhere, covering the same topics that others have done, yet you do it better and manage to make it fresh and compelling.

Teddy and team you are the best in this business. Jon is an exceptional professional! I look forward to working with him on my second purchase. Thank you very much, Bob! Enjoy the ride and appreciate the continued support. We all love what we do and it only motivates me more to know others enjoy. Have a great rest of your Saturday.
Hi Teddy, very nice to hear that you have started with Certina. Here in Norway you get them "everywhere". They are very popular. I have some of them and I am very satisfied.
I love this series and cant wait for part 2. The brand history part and lifestyle standout the most to me and I got a lot of knowledge about the former form this very channel! Keep up the great work Teddy!
Regarding the first and second points: I recently had my Omega Seamaster professionally modded, in that I had the helium escape valve removed and replaced with a third party i.e. with a valve that sits almost completely flush with the case, whilst still retaining the water resistance rating. Of course this voids the warranty and limits who I can get it serviced by, but it's now an infinitely better watch for me personally.
I have an Omega Seamaster and I like the helium escape valve. But I can see that some people don't. Most Diver 300 M's don't become collectors' items or retain value, but in case yours is a special, rare edition, the guy should have given you the original valve--and you can have it put back on, if need be.
@@highnrising 100%, it's fairly a polarizing feature. I like the clean aesthetic without it at the moment, but that could change. I have all of the original parts and the mod is 100% reversible, so I thought that there really wasn't a downside to trying it out.
I have different watches for different purposes. I wear my Seiko 5 Sport when I honestly have no idea what day of the week it is as it's got day and date, my GMT when I'm chatting to an American friend (6hr time difference). My Doxa Sub 300T when I need something that can take a lot of abuse and water. My frequent daily use watch is my Seagull 1963 chrono, as it's lightweight, looks great, and it's surprisingly accurate!
I have quite a large collection of watches. The last three I have purchased were all Grand Seiko. I got the Cherry blossom, then the White Birch, and then the Night Birch. There is another I have seen I will probably end up getting too. I am very impressed with the Grand Seiko watches.
Wish I had the funds to collect GS . . . I'd probably end up with dozens! The Shunbun (pink cherry blossom) is at the top of my must-have-someday list.
May I know how you feel about night birch? I look at videos and went to GS boutique to compare, I find that most of the videos in RUclips cannot justify the quality of the watch.
I've messed around with a few different styles of watches and different sizes. After a few years I found the 40-44mm watches are best suited for me and what I do on a day to day basis. Big fan of the Seiko's and i'm looking to eventually get a Sub. I am definitely a dive watch guy and wear one at all times.
Thanks for this. It's helpful for a new watch collector like myself. What a coincidence that you just posted this video. I replied to another one of your recent videos and suggested a type of video series to guide a new collector in establishing and growing their watch collection using some recommend best practices. Again, thanks from a newbie 😊
I think one of the most difficult aspects for those just starting their watch journey is judging size and finding their preference. After watching reviews, I ordered the Seiko SNK809 as my first real watch. I loved the looks of it and in the reviews, the proportions seemed OK. When I got it, I was very disappointed because on my wrist (I am not a huge guy) it looked like a toy to me at 38mm. I then went to the opposite direction and ordered a 44mm Seiko perpetual chronograph SPC123 (which wears smaller than 44mm) and liked it more, but realized my sweet spot would be in-between. My 3rd watch was the Seiko SNZG09 at 42mm which is my favorite size now. Since then, all my watches are between 40 and 42mm. I also realized that as a beginner at the time, ordering online after watching reviews made no sense, I should have tried a few in a shop in the beginning to find out what is best for me. I kept the SNK809 just in case my taste changes someday, or my son wants to wear it - but I have never worn it.
Yet another Excellent well Informed Video By the GOAT of RUclips Watch Channels. all Points are very informative. but i think points 2 and 3 Are the Most Critical, ESPECIALLY Point 2 . i work as a mechanic and always need to Stamp Customer Service books so a Date is Absolutely Necessary. so their is absolutely no point in Buying a date-less Dress watch that has 30 metres water resistance and is not up to the task of the hard labour that is insured in my Job. and that stands for any other Job also . excellent video as usual
I own a Certina DS Action chronometer for the price you cannot beat it COSC certified 300 metres water resistance Sapphire crystal with AR coating plus swiss made to boot. A very underrated brand in my eyes also involved in Sea Turtle conservation hence the Turtle on the case back. In all its a well made watch for the price. This is one of the watches in my collection.
Your channel is one of my favorites, Teddy! I love what you're doing and I'm always excited for the next release. Funny enough, I wholeheartedly disagree with the "viability for your lifestyle" point. Although you're absolutely right wearing a Duoface Reverso if you're a cop for example doesn't make much sense, I have an easier solution. Don't wear it while on duty. Problem solved. There will be plenty of other times to wear it. You don't have to be in a tie and suit all the time for you to enjoy it. For instance, I never use formal attire. That would never stop me from buying a Lange or a Reverso. I give less than a flying you-know-what if my watch "matches" my wardrobe or my personal style. Never have, never will. Only three things would stop me from wearing a watch I love: I couldn't afford it. I can't get it wet because I'll damage it. And I'm going through a sketchy part in town and I don't want to get mugged. That's it. Wear your Reverso with your Star Wars pajamas. Nobody cares. Enjoy what you love.
Great points; really enjoyed the video. For me the design that speaks to me is the most important aspect. Have been eyeing (and hopefully getting soon) the D1 Milano navy orange. So many people spoke badly about the price of it but the design for me is the best that speaks to my taste. True there may be better watches for lesser price but they don’t have the design.
Once I was looking for a specific type of watch, and had a few brands in mind. One of the brands was being offered at a reduced price. That sealed the deal. I've enjoyed having the watch in my collection, and like wearing it on certain occasions. It was never intended to be an everyday watch.
Been following your Channel for ages Teddy. I can without any doubt confirm you hit every point on the number on this video. You almost like the father to an orphan to the watch collection world. As I am. Thank you!
Me: 1) Titanium case & bracelet; 2) Simple 3 hand dial with thin case, preferably under 10mm; 3) Quartz (preferably solar & radio controlled & perpetual calendar); 4) Sporty with attractive dial; 5) Reputable brand (Japanese preferred). Collection so far: Casio Oceanus S100 black dial, Casio Oceanus T150 light blue dial, Citizen Attesa Jounetsu Red dial. *The JDM seems to offer more options to fit my needs.
I would add that, if you have already bought several watches, where do you want to go with your collection? Do you want to wear all of them or do you „just“ want to own them. Also, keep in mind the cost of a revision. The manufacturer of one of my timepieces recommends a revision every 2 years; so it adds up. Other than that, you mentioned 5 great aspects to think about. I thought about getting a Rolex Oyster Perpetual, which I still think is a great watch. Very elegant, understated. But it was to heavy on my wrist and therefore it wasn’t meant for me. Put a watch on, see if you are comfortable wearing it. See if it fits under a sleeve. How the dimension are.
I am currently saving for a seiko king turtle spre07 which will take me at least 10 months( have a new born baby and living in the philippines) . It will be my first automatic watch and I am very excited. I have been binge watching your videos and help me made my choice.
As a watch collector, for me it’s a few things 1) how much I am spending on a watch-should not exceed a thousand dollars. 2) does the watch has serial numbers; paper is good. Basically is the watch authentic. 3) will I wear this watch? If the answer is yes, then when? And if that is too I know and it’s atleast once in two weeks and watch is rare, I get it. For ex. Getting the CW moonphase C1/C7 (almost impossible to get) oris’s James Morrison at less than a 1000 usd, they were my deals. And there are a few more rare ones which I am happy to own.
One your first point about knowing what you like sometimes there are certain things you don’t like ie date vs no date, case size, hands, Roman numeral or Arabic etc…. Sometimes the certain elements you don’t like look amazing as a complete package. 😊
I will say I wear my Rolex a lot to work and, while I still love it, it's taken on a bit of a "work" vibe that means I don't wear it on my time off. I didn't expect that and find myself asking if my next piece is a "work" piece or a personal one.
@Teddy Baldassarre I am still waiting on the Orient Star Classic Review you hinted at four years ago. Will it happen? I think by far the best watch for the money whatsoever. My absolute biggest wish from this channel would be to review the golden cased ORIENT STAR Classic Power Reserve Automatic SAF02001S. this would be on of my happiest watch moments I think. I am really thinking about getting one.
I have one of there watches and love it. I have the DS 1 Himalaya. Keeps impecable time, looks and feels great. I'm thinking of getting one of the divers next. Probably the DS Action Driver but also looking at the PH 500 or the DS 2 rotating bezel. Was a diver, which are you considering?
@@karlpfefferle6907 it would be the DS Action diver for sure. I like the piece of mind of the ISO Certification if I am going to actually dive with it. Looks like they have the same clasp as my MIDO.
@@jonathanedwards2983 that's the one I'm learning towards. It is the same clasp. Probably from the same source. Certina had it on the older model is well. Thanks for the input.
For me the one thing I realized is I hate watches on bracelets. Definitely an uncommon sentiment from shopping around. But my Seamaster is on a nato and my Bell and Ross 03-92 is on a rubber strap. So definitely buy what you like and not what someone on IG tells you is the next hot thing.
Great video Teddy. I feel like this one will be a good one for viewers to go back to and reference each time we feel the urge to purchase another watch. Serves as a good frame of reference!
Really useful video. In 'dimensions and wear', another factor to consider is the caseback. Dished casebacks that make a watch protrude from your wrist accentuate the oversized look, especially if the lugs are long and/or have a shallow angle. Look out for this as it can make a watch fit awkwardly as if it is spilling over your wrist. Flat casebacks are better IMHO. Also large plain dials with widely spaced indices and a thin bezel can look odd on a slim wrist. Better to go for a smaller dial with a thicker bezel as it looks more balanced. Good to see Certina is now being offered, a great brand that offers terrific design, quality and heritage at a fair price.
Teddy, one other consideration might be the availability and cost of servicing. For instance, I'd fallen in love with two watches from a luxury brand, both of which were being offered and what I considered a very good price and were gently used and unworn. However, before I submitted a buy order yesterday, I did some online research at quite a few jewelers and watch repair and service establishments online that offered service and repairs on that particular brand. Cost for even minor servicing was high so I made the decision to pass on them. Moral of the story: The higher the price of the watch, the higher the cost of future ownership (insurance, periodic servicing, repairs, etc.) Best to own what fits with your budget than one that breaks the budget.
I just purchased my first real decent watch and my first consideration was what style I wanted. I was after a divers watch, that's what I liked and the style that attracted me the most, next was value, how much watch could I get for a certain price. After that it came down to material and colour and then brand and size of said watch. I ended up getting lucky and finding a Citizen Promaster for 50% off, I think it's an older model, CA0711-80H. I snagged it for $350 AUD, down from $750. It's a massive watch, slightly too big for me after some wearing but not too big that I can't pull it off. It's a statement for sure but all my priorities got ticked off before I came to this negative so for my first watch I think I did well. For my second, well now I know to go a little smaller and now I can get something a little different too, more classic styling maybe or maybe a land watch? We'll see.
For me the bracelet has to speak to me as much as the watch itself. For example: never looked at the Omega Speedmaster because of the bracelet, until the 2021 model came out with the most beautiful bracelet ever!!! Now I can’t stop dreaming about owning one.
Great content as usual..it gave me a little confidence wearing my GMT 16710..I've been able to buy it years ago for a fraction of what they are selling it now and, since I'm a worker,I don't feel it right on my wrist...but I do love aviation and I've bought it also for its history ..
I have a couple of display back mechanical watches for the pleasure of admiring the movement, but my priority is absolute accuracy and a degree of toughness. So it comes down to essentially quartz movements and then the decision as to whether to opt for a digital or analogue display. Another question is whether you are wearing a watch as a vital piece of equipment or a bit of bling for social occasions. While it can be a tough choice, there are watches out there that can do it all and do it without breaking the bank. I have found that JDM watches come closest to meeting my personal tastes and requirements and are worth the effort to identify and source suitable models. The great advantage is that you are unlikely to come across anyone else wearing the same watch in the US or Europe!
Teddy, I think that you should have also mentioned the Certina DS-2 reissue. It's a wonderful watch with great heritage and offers fantastic value for the price.
Teddy, make a video about the lack of good quality control for many brands. Many dont know that Vacheron, Rolex and Patek sometimes look very ugly under macro. People should be aware of this, point this out before they buy watches at an AD(bring a loupe). Make the brand make a better job.
I think another thing is the theme of your collection. For me I only buy white dial watches, while some may find that odd it is what I like and my whole collection revolves around that theme. I have different types of watches but they all are white dial. If you like a certain theme of watches stick with it and don’t comprise for the newest, flashiest, most hyped because at the end of the day it is only for your enjoyment.
Design:- I was once told when buying a car, if you don't look back at it when walking away, it's not the right car for you. Similarly with my watch I often find myself rolling the wrist and looking, but not actually taking note of the time. I have the right watch.
Teddy, fwiw coming from an anonymous internet person, you truly put out the best watch content out there. Your style is easy, logical, authentic, passionate and fun. You also know how to not let your ego rum amok like some many other content creators. Kudos and thanks for your vids!
Size is a strange one!!! It’s amazing how perception changes over time and the longer you wear a given watch. A year ago anything under 40mm was a hard no go lol. Now my favourite watches are my Tudor BB36 and the BB58.. Seiko is another one that works magic lol I still wear my massive Sumo and still looks good on my 7 inch wrist.
I recently tried on a BB58 after wearing a 40mm for a while and it’s a big no for me. Way too small even though it’s such a great watch. Edit my wrists are 7.5”
Great advice. I, however, am very limited in my watch preferences due to my lifestyle and wrist size. ...I have essentially become a Sinn U50 collector lol.
Great content! I would love to see a deep dive (pun intended) into Jacques Cousteau and the dive watches that were born in that era and where they are now.
Im waiting patiently for a "contrarian list". One for the person who would NEVER consider a Rolex. One that dismisses movie or moon watches. One that looks for something special that the watch snobs might not see. Yup. THAT would be a fun episode, as would be ANY microbrand-only video... Oh, who am i kidding. I watch ALL of your postings Teddy and appreciate all you do. Especially when you show Mr Wonderful something he doesnt know. 😉
Man I have binge watched your videos since I found your channel. I started collecting a few years ago. Have some nice pieces. Mostly Rol. You have really inspired me to diversify brands. You have impeccable taste. Quick question- this is a tough one I know..... Trying to decide between the GS 211 vs 413. Any advice?
Hey Brotha, I have a question. Why does the watch community not appreciate Gshocks? The MRG series is pretty awesome. The Gassan is different. I'd like to challenge you to rock a MRG on the wrist for a week. Iget they are not mechanical movements. But I see no love for g shock from. Any of the big watch RUclips channels. Just a thought I wanted to share. Peace Teddy!!!
Very much agree with the most common sense thing: If you do not like the look of a watch, you shouldn’t buy it. Personally, i dislike chronograph watches, but everybody i know who are into watches tell me that you must own one to be a watch collector. Thankfully, i did not cave in to the peer pressure of owning one. Buy what you love! Not what others love
Teddy, great content. What is your recommendation for skeleton watches under $5k for men. I really want to add a skeleton watch to my collection. Please suggest!
Teddy! Would be nice to see a video about affordable alternatives to iconic watches or "combinations". For example, Rolex Daytona or Yatch Master in RG with a rubber strap is kind of an "iconic combination". Btw...best watches channel! You're doing a really great job!

Congratulations on White Birch Hi Beat! Please consider making a video on this jewel in horological history.
As a watch collector, for me it’s a few things
1) how much I am spending on a watch-should not exceed a thousand dollars.
It’s nice to see you with the White Birch! I’m sitting here wearing the same.
That watch on your wrist looks great.. so much presence
One your first point about knowing what you like sometimes there are certain things you don’t like ie date vs no date, case size, hands, Roman numeral or Arabic etc…. Sometimes the certain elements you don’t like look amazing as a complete package. 😊
my dad wears a certina, i love how it looks!
This video put Certina on my radar. I’m thinking about starting to dive again, and maybe a Certina diver would fit my needs.
Teddy, your videos make so much sense. Every inspiring watch collector should watch them all.
Finally, Certina is here!!
I like that orange one at 1:47.
Im thankful for your channel, thank you Ted❤️
Honestly I just want the Citizen Promaster Dive in Blue/Red and a Casio Frogman
I agree, best concise delivery and insightful content! TB knows his horology.
Sleek change of clothing in the intro 👌.
Do you think it's worth saving up for a 2-3k Grand Seiko?
I’m saving up for the new king sumo in blue which now as a ceramic dial, love the sumo range. Great video 👍
Teddy, I have 2 watches and wanted to ask you your opinion of Rotary or Bulova.
Both good companies. Just buy and have a good time with your new watch!
Great video as always! What is that watch at the very end, from the brand anOrdain?! Never heard of them but that dial is stunning!
This is the best one of THESE videos I’ve ever seen. Nice work!
Great advice Teddy! Keep up the great work!
Good video. Buy what YOU want. Wear what YOU want. A watch should compliment you, but should not define you.
I'm lucky enough to have a vintage DS 3 ph1000... and my left arm gets a workout when I wear the old girl!
By 7”, you mean 5 3/4”?
I recently tried on a BB58 after wearing a 40mm for a while and it’s a big no for me. Way too small even though it’s such a great watch.
Edit my wrists are 7.5”
@@markreynolds9135 nope 7 inches as in 1 inch bigger then 1/2 a foot lol
Great advice. I, however, am very limited in my watch preferences due to my lifestyle and wrist size. ...I have essentially become a Sinn U50 collector lol.
Very very cool. People do loose track of their identity when buying a watch. Great video.
Thanks Teddy
My unique hunting parameters have me disregarding value and allow me to drawn toward the watches I like. 😊
Honestly one of the best videos you’ve produced 🤟🏼🤘🏻
Teddy you hit it when you talked about, cost per wear. I had to make a decision 5 months ago trying to decide between 2 watches using this reasoning.
Great video! I just need to know what is that watch at 5:41 in the to right? And the middle one in the bottom row?
Tks
Keep the good job!
“Whatever Teddy says” is my go to answer
i like cheap vintage watch , from 60-70is , handwand , often find them under 50euro , at pawn shops ,
Great to see the OG Birch on your wrist! It’s the only mechanical watch I own. Great topic and video!
Great content! I would love to see a deep dive (pun intended) into Jacques Cousteau and the dive watches that were born in that era and where they are now.
That would be interesting!
Thanks for a useful narrative. It all rings true!
Very great observations.
awesome content. I wonder why don't you do wrist watch check?
Man I have binge watched your videos since I found your channel. I started collecting a few years ago. Have some nice pieces. Mostly Rol. You have really inspired me to diversify brands. You have impeccable taste. Quick question- this is a tough one I know..... Trying to decide between the GS 211 vs 413. Any advice?
Certina! Nice Teddy, The classic dover looks great.
That's good advice Teddy.
Great thought process and advice Teddy - keep 'em coming!
Super excited to be picking up my snoopy Lunar Pilot next week 😁 will be my first chrono
Hi Teddy, please continue this series. Thank You.
Teddy, What's a good watch for playing video games all day? Looking for suggestions.
Never heard of a Yatch Master. Did Manuel wear one in “Fawlty Towers?”
