I feel like cats are the most misunderstood and unfairly maligned animals out there. They are affectionate, very much so, but they don't tolerate BS, and will only give you what you put in exchange. Most people who seem to think they don't like cats once they adopt or have one instantly change their tune. They're absolutely adorable, mysterious, dignified, ancient gods but also very playful

Dunno why the dog woke him up at 3:30 am but for a cat, especially for the first night, don’t close the door- cats are curious and s new home + night = time to explore
You know how at night cats start running around the house and playing? Dogs do that too. Both take multiple naps a day as opposed to sleeping a full nights rest so at night they can be sleeping, playing, eating, ect. That's my best guess as to why the dog was so energetic at night. Also if the dog is young and playful you should add playing to your night schedule to wear them out a little.

@@allisonyoung9371 It might just be anxiety at sleeping in a new place near new people. I brought my dog with me to a friend's house once. If anything, he had gotten MORE exercise than usual that day, but when we stayed overnight in the guest room, he was restless and whimpered through much of the night. (Needless to say, that wasn't good for my own sleep either!) It felt to me like he was saying, "Okay, this has been fun, but we need to go home now."

I don't understand how someone can be a "dog person" or a "cat person". Both are great in their own ways. I have 2 cats and I have a sweet bird too (who's sometimes an ass, let's be honest), and I really want to adopt a dog too once I have my own house. Animals are all great.

Mariam Janahi Well I love them all and I’ve been around lots of cats and dogs my whole life, but I do have a preference for dogs when it comes to this ‘debate’. I think it’s all about which one matches the best your character or lifestyle, and a bit of some unexplainable natural attraction. Its more or less like saying ‘I love green and red, but green suits me better’ ahah
Because they’ve had only one of those as pets, so they know nothing about the other. I have both, and even more, rats, birds, etc... And let me tell you that they require different things, dogs are friendly by nature, they have been bred for that reasons, cats don’t have that friendly nature, cats need to be exposed to humans before 2 months because if they don’t they will not have the social abilities to interact with humans, they will have to learn it instead. So you need to understand the context when meeting a cat, the possibility that it has never been exposed to humans, and behave accordingly for the best outcome. Sometimes cats can be friendly as well, if they are confident, that’s when you get the really loving street cat, or house cat that just comes to people.
Imo cats demand respect, that you acknowledge that they don’t need you, and if they chose to be with you is because they like you. You can win a cats affection if you feed it and house it, but you will never have a loving cat if you don’t treat it with affection and love. To me, cats are perfect to help with emotional support, they are great animals when you have anxiety. Dogs are perfect if you want to socialize more, get out of your house, do stuff be active, they provide great emotional support as well, but imo cats are better for those who are truly hurt inside, that kind of people that just hates themselves, cats are perfect to bring up your self esteem, they cuddle up to you and purr and kneed you, it can be very soothing to your soul, in a way that I personally think dogs can’t, and I have a lot of animals. Both are amazing company animals for anyone that wants to feel loved and love in return.

Jenkins likes to play often, but in the mornings especially. The cat fishing pole toy is his favorite.
Depending on his mood he will either lie on the floor while you dangle the toy for him or he may prefer you to run around the house trailing it behind you so that he may chase you.
You will notice that Jenkins wears his tail in a particularly jaunty fashion. If his tail is raised high and above his back, he is in good spirits. If it is not, you must find a way to cheer him.
Jenkins is inclined to a gentle head butt as a preferred form of greeting, to be followed by pets. He likes scritches on his head and under his little chin, and to be gently petted on his nose.

I'm waaay to low energy and introverted to deal with all their needs for activity and attention. That's why I will only own cats, we're like a purr-fect match.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Pet loss is extremely hard and not often talked about. Both of my cats died this past summer, I know how hard it is. Just know it really will get better, and that you provided a beautiful life for your pet when they could have spent their life in a shelter. Your pet had a full life because of you.

But Jenkins, is no mere cat, for you see...he is Jenkins. From what I gather, dog people want the immediate gratification and as a result, they tend to never be willing to take the time to understand cats. Cat people on the other hand are willing to wait/work, and savour the slow burn. Cats take a while to trust you, which is what makes them so rewarding. Once they do trust you, they open up, their personalities emerge, and their affection is clear. Cats have their own opinions and quirks, they also just happen to love and communicate differently than dogs.

Jenkins was amazingly adapting to the new house so quickly and was being very social with the girl! most of cats can't do that they just hide for a couple of days without eating and avoiding contact! Jenkins is incredible😍

My cat probably would have found somewhere to hide the entire time...he doesn’t do that well in new environments right at first. I think dogs don’t mind as much because they get taken on walks and car rides to random places.
@@betteryourlife865 My dog likes being outdoors in new environments but she hates being indoors in new environments. It took her a few weeks to warm up to my new apartment. The cats were strutting about like they owned the place after 2 days -_-
Luculencia one of my cats is more like that....the other one HATES car rides. Like his anxiety and stress goes through the roof. Last time he puked and pooped in my car. Poor thing!
My cat does well with strangers. We had a house and cat sitter when we went on vacation and she snuggled with him at night. It just depends on the personality of the cat or dog.

No, it's on correctly. It's an EasyWalk harness, also known as a "front clip" harness. It keeps the dog from pulling.

@@user-ru3zw6lz9h Nope. It's supposed to be a norwegian harness and it's definitely upside down. It obviously restricts the dog's legs and is loose in all the wrong places. Plus later in the video it's on correctly with the leash on top and it fits much better that way. The type of harness you mean does exist though.

Cat people can enjoy dogs in short sessions, but not full-time. I'm that way; I truly enjoy meeting and interacting with dogs, but wouldn't want to deal with one as a full-time owner. Cats for meee!

Okay, as a lifelong cat person (my parents had five Siamese when I was born and I imprinted on the appropriate species, thank you) I have to say the grumbling about the dog outside the bathroom door seems... off. I've had multiple cats who wanted to sit on my lap when I was using the toilet; waiting outside seems polite and well-mannered. ;-)
Goldie does seem sweet, and Jenkins seems like a particularly fine and handsome example of felinity. I wish I could snuggle him.

Great idea in theory - but putting a cat in a totally new and unknown territory seems like a really stressful and uncomfortable situation. No wonder that it’s complaining and confused.
Absolutely. If you want to do that you should have the human come to the pets home. With my 2 adopted sibling cats the rescue place required me to agree to keep them in a small room for 2-3 days and slowly allow them to explore. When I moved with my old cat he cried for 3 days from being in a new home. Some cats are extremely stressed in new environments.

Cat's are more active at night but the cat was probably anxious about being in a new place with someone they didn't know. My cat meows every time I leave the damn room. Cats can get separation anxiety too. That being said both of these animals were super cute and I want them both.

Jenkins was probably calling for his human all night. They’re nocturnal/crepuscular, so they tend to be really active at night. You just learn to ignore it, or occasionally call out “I’m here, you’re fine” when they start that particularly yowl that means they’re looking for you. They usually quiet down after that.
Lol of course the cat would be meowing all night because cats need more than a weekend to adjust to a new environment😑

I've babysat cats overnight before and never had them meowing at night. Leave the doors open and have some space on shelves clear for them to jump on.
