Not to mention that still today they are one of the best sounding V8s ever. One of the only cars that you knew exactly what it was when you could only hear it.

Not long ago my oldest son and I were stopped at a place to unload my big truck the next morning. When we were unstrapping load to ready for the next day we seen a fox at a business across the rd. Talked about it and finished working. Bout 30 mins later he was on top bunk I was on bottom bunk and I heard that familiar sound and I said well that fox just fired up. He jumped off top bunk and looked out the window. He was looking to buy one at the time bc I have one. He said dang dad you got a good ear thats exactly what fired up. I said son you know I got hearing damage its just a distinct sound that engine makes that no other push rod v8 makes. It has a sound you can't miss.

    • @charlesgreer7641
      @charlesgreer7641 4 года назад +1

It does have a unique sound yes it has a american pushrod sound but it has a different sound even than a same era regular 5.0. Its in the firing order. A regular roller 5.0 has the old 302 firing order the 5.0 ho has a 351 marine engine firing order. Everything you do to a engine or exhaust changes the sound just like you said on your engine it sound better bc of what you've done. Just like on the mod motors they all have the same basic sound but the 4.6 and coyote sound different. They have different firing orders. And even though the coyote makes more horse power alota people including myself think the 4.6 sounds better. But yes In fact the 5.0 ho does have a distinct push rod sound. No other push rod has the same exact sound. That's the reason I can tell one without looking when I hear it. Just like to most people all vtwin bikes with straits sound basically the same but harley has one of its jugs at a distinc angle and it gives the harley its signature tone and sound that no other vtwin has or can have bc they patented the angle of that jug. They sued yamaha over the vstar bc yamaha tried to copy their design to get the sound.

I’ve always had special place in my heart for the Foxbody. My dad ordered his 87 GT new and it was his baby. He passed away in 2012 and I still own the car. It’s only got 54k on the odometer and always garage kept. Only mods are flowmaster catback and bbk cai, I also think I remember him saying he had the timing bumped up a bit back in the day. Could use a paint job but it’s truly still flawless. Someone could me 50k for the car and I’d decline in a heartbeat!

When I was in High School in the early 2000's The Foxbody Mustangs where popular because even a teenager who had to earn his first car on a summer job could afford one! Some of my friends bought them for as little as $1500! Now they are becoming more desirable because people remember them from back in the day! When the desire to own one shifts from wanting an entry level performance car to nostalgia, that is when values of these cars goes up...

In the late 70's drag racing was slowly dying, all that was left were 60's and early 70's muscle cars that were getting harder to find and when you did they were usually rusted and ragged out and the sport was fading away.... then in 1982 Ford introduced the 5.0 GT Mustang and in no time guy's figured out you could go pick up one of these and with a little weight reduction, bolt on's and tuning you had a brand new race car that could not only compete with the old muscle cars but soon began to beat them, while still under warranty! I remember looking through a Summit catalog back in the early 80's and seeing a 5.0 Mustang section! don't remember a Mustang II section or for that mater any Mustang specific section in any speed catalog before that! the Fox or as it was known back then the 5.0 Mustang saved the sport of drag racing by rejuvenating the old timers with new competition and causing all the other automakers to have to step it up as well! The Fox deserves it's iconic status!

I had the choice of going newer but when I saw the car I always wanted as a teenager, had to make my dreams come true. I want to restore her on the outside/inside as much as I can while showing her lots of love under the hood. This has even brought me closer with my brother in law! It was said that the Foxbody Mustang was the Generation Xs muscle car, which in retrospect its true, I was born in the latter part of the 80s, so all I saw growing up was the 5.0s and IROC-Zs running around, which left a huge Impression on me as a kid, I love them to death, and you couldn't mistake that Iconic 5.0 sound especially match with some original flowmaster 40s. It just hits home, but in the best way lol.
And prior to the Foxbody huge spike In value over the last several years now, these cars were always remembered for being cheap speed, It didn't take much to make these cars a beast, even in stock form, they were contenders. anyone who dogs the ponycars back then either weren't even alive to know the struggle of the fuel crisis that affected muscle cars from the 70s to 80s, which in my opinion they made it worked with what they had to at the time

He had on display the Lotus Espirit's ( copies maybe? ) at his dealership on Van Ness Blvd in SF that were used in Basic Instict. The star for me ( car wise, Sharon Stone is a National Treasure) was the drop top GT. That 390 that Frank had was a beast, but as a kid I have walked some of those stairs cut into concrete kissing the hills of the city that the 302 GT bounced through ending up at Moscone Center. 9 yrs ago I bought a survival car for $6500 and didn't think twice about the price. I bought it off the original owner that was in his 70's so I knew the car was never beat on to hard. The only issue was the clear coat peeling but that is normal. As of today I wouldn't consider selling for less than $20k.

Not being a negative Nancy here but to get 20 it has to be relatively stock, have under 80k and have good paint and interior. There's one down the street for sale right now and it's pretty much perfect with a 1 year old paint job, cam, exhaust and subframes with 75k for 11,500. You'll get 20 in a few years.

Good description. I loved my Foxbodies that I owned. Just last week I picked up an ‘83 LX Convertible locally that needs a little work, but is very straight for its years, and was garage kept for a lot of those years - it was a great find to get an all original ‘83 in relatively sound condition. I’m excited to get it back to roadworthy status.
Even now, while I’m restoring it, that sound you get when you turn it over is everything I remember from my late teens and early 20’s and reminds me of why I started this project.
I jumped into this like one of those naysayers about the value. It surprised me how much these things are going for today, compared to 20 years ago when an ‘80s Fox was still a dime a dozen.

The cry was "Why did they put a smaller engine in the Mustang? Why couldn't they make it just a bit bigger so that it could retain the 5.0 badge?"BTW - in 2002 I paid $3500 for mine, but it was in sad shape!

It's not very fast, its got an AOD and is pretty much stock except for 3.73 gears and full 2.5" exhaust and a K&N panel filter currently has about 78k on it. In high school in 88l I had a black 79 trans am, very "cool" car, my dad bought it for me from a little old lady and it only had 40k miles on it. My best friends dad bought him a brand new 88 mustang GT with t tops. Dark blue on top gray bottom with a lighter blue stripe. I fell in love with that car. I appreciated what I had because growing up in the 70s and 80s Burt Reynolds was the man and the trans am was my dream car. And it was affordable, my dad have $4k for it and I felt like that was an incredible amount of money. Of course I wrecked it and life goes on. Then in 2000 I finally got my own fox body, a 1990 lx 5.0 5 speed in midnight blue. 20 years later and I still have it. It's been painted once but needs it again. It was my daily driver until 07 then it sat for a few years. I've had it running again for about 2 years now. I know it's not a big up car but they feel fast, very fun. I guess I'll always have it, and it's crazy to see the price of these things now. I paid $5k for it in '00. Of course seeing the price of the old 6.6 T/As I wish I still had it too. One thing that i find interesting is looking into vettes how many parts are out of production but these fox bodies you can buy every piece for them, you could build one from nothing just ordering out of a book lol.

I like that from '87-'89 (pre 25th Anniversary cars) the ONLY place these had the pony logo was the under hood liner.
Also, of course, the Fox brought the muscle back to the Mustang.
Bonus: If this car has the stock H pipe (I can't remember) I highly recommend just taking the mufflers off. It's nice and docile when you're cruising so it doesn't attract attention, and then you floor it and it's a crack of thunder. God I love the sound.
Oh, and Eagle One Mag cleaner will clean the turbines up new. Just keep it off the center caps.
And to me, a Fox is the best looking Mustang. Especially when they look like ours. White, turbines, and graters.

LOL keep these videos coming, I am 39 years old and have always loved these cars and finally just picked up one of my own about 2 months ago. No offense to the V6 and Ecoboost 4CYL people. But old 5.0’s and either the 2 valve or 3 valve V8’s have the best sound. Can’t bring myself to own anything other than a V8 Mustang. The sound of a V8 anything truck or car will never replace that sound! The real insane part is today. No car is really that affordable. Everything is way overpriced! Mustangs used to be called the affordable sports car. Which now prices are in the high 30’s and close or over $100,000 depending on the model. That’s insane!! The some what affordable ones are obviously used ones with a hell of a lot of miles and God knows what has happened to them over the years of different owners.
