Top notch all on their own, but sweet harmonies all together. And? Vince Gill gives back to all the newcomers in Nashville. He's truly one of my favorites
Vince wrote the first verse of this song when his friend and fellow country singer, Keith Whitley, died. Then he wrote the second verse when his brother died. He is one of the very top country singers, song writers, and guitar pickers. His duet with Reba McIntyre of "The Heart Don't Lie" is my other favorite. I love the respect you show for country artists and their music. Great job!
Vince gill has one of those sweet, silky, humble voices. But when you combine Ricky Scaggs and Patty Loveless, a beautiful bluegrass trifecta is created. ❤
Vince Gill has an angelic voice and it's above beautiful beyond any male vocalist I could listen to him forever and never get tired he does gospel and it is beautiful I know Jesus is happy with him
A good live version of this was from George Jones' funeral. Other songs of his to react to should include "It's Your Call" with Reba, and "One More Last Chance". Also, the 'background' singers on this song are both Legends in their own rights, Mr Ricky Skaggs and Ms Patty Lovelace.
It was a beautiful performance but he was so upset because he truly loved George, he couldn’t even hardly sing. Patty carried him and I loved how he played when he was too choked up. Powerful but not his best vocal show off.
A few thoughts. (1) if you ever just need an emotional release…watch Vince and Patty sing this song at George Jones’ funeral and you’ll cry like a baby (2) Vince’s “When I Call Your Name” is probably in the Top 10 of greatest country songs ever written (3) one of the best? Just go check his career list of awards (4) as you know from his video with Carrie, the man can tear up a guitar…that’s why you’ll see his Entertainer of the Year awards along with Male Vocalist. He’s good enough he was offered the job with Dire Straits years ago. He’s also playing with the Eagles in recent years.
Vince has one of the best male country voices of all time, imo. He's also a very accomplished guitar player (yes, he only played the guitar during his and Carrie's rendition of How Great Thou Art). Also the two singing with him (Patty Loveless and Ricky Skaggs) are both very accomplished country singers as well. :)
Love to see people giving Vince Gill his due. Yes, he has one of the sweetest, clearest, beautiful voices; not just in country music, but in any genre.
I agree this is s beautiful song but my opinion it has more of a gospel song than county it s song that brings a tesr to everyone's eye. I don't know anyone that listens to this song that doesn't cry when they hear it
While he isn’t hitting the notes like he is here, the version at George Jone’s funeral is definitely the live performance to experience. It will fill your soul. If you can make it to his guitar solo you will even hear mourning and sorrow from the strings. It’s truly a beautiful tribute from two great artists to another.
Vince Gill and his wife Amy Grant are heavily involved with Habitat for Humanity. He performed a concert in my hometown of Wichita Falls, Texas years ago and after the performance found out the the concert was organized as a fundraiser for this organization. He then refused any form of payment and insisted it all go to Habitat for Humanity. He and his wife Amy then invested heavily in this city for more homes in one areaof the city and the city officials named a street where these home are at as "Grant Gill Lane".
He definitely has a very distinct voice. He actually wrote this song for his brother when he passed away. He is one of a kind. One of his songs that I love is: When I Call Your Name.
Vince was also a singer and guitarist in the 1970's pop group Pure Prairie League, who had a #1 hit "Amie". Thanks for playing this musical masterpiece.
One of the most angelic voices ever! Love me some Vince Gill. My best friend passed at 30 from cancer and this was played at her funeral..it will always be special to me
He’s very talented. He’s also very down to earth… we were visiting our son in Nashville and we went to a restaurant. When we went in we ran into Vince Gill. He was so polite and nice.. such a nice gentleman. Very classy human being.
Vince wrote this after his brother passed away. Vince is a humble down to earth person with immense talent. No ego or arrogance just a very nice guy. First time I met him he treated me like we had known each other for a long time.
He’s a member of the Eagles now! A couple duets I would recommend with him are “I will always love you” with Dolly Parton and “Don’t rush” with Kelly Clarkson.
This song was played at my dad's funeral. I can never listen to this song without thinking of him and any of my other loved ones who've already passed.
All the pertinent information has been given; I will add that Vince has covered pop, country, gospel, contemporary Christian, and bluegrass. I fought to have this played at my mom's memorial (my stepfather and I never did get on), and I know that mama heard and embraced the message. Lovely reaction; I always look forward to your videos! eta: Both Ricky Skaggs and Patti Loveless deserve a listen on their own; Vince also did a Crossroads with Allison Krauss, which is amazing. Oh, And you ought to check out Alison Krauss, with or without her band, Union Station. Good food for the soul, my friend.
You’re exactly right. Vince Gill is NO joke. Look up his musical stats. They are phenomenal. He is hugely talented ! Over the years? I’ve seen him 35 times.
When my first cousin younger than me passed I was holding it together ok at his funeral until this song was played. No dry eyes afterwards. Vince Gill wrote this song when his brother passed.
'Whenever you come around' is another beautiful tune by Vince. He is a GOAT of country & along with his hits, he does back up for many country stars too. This tune is played at so many funerals, I've heard it a zillion times & it moves me every time. For the fun side of Vince, check out 'One more last chance'. Hilarious.
This is the type of song you want to play for your grandparents. Vince was in a band years ago called Pure Prairie League. Listen to Amie. Vince played guitar and sang with them in the early 80s. He was the lead singer in their Greatest Hits album. The harmony will give you chills as this does. This is the type of song that will be eternal.
Vince is a generational talent. Not only the incredible voice for solo work, but he has done some unbelievable duets as well (Reba - Heart Don't Lie). He is also widely regarded as one of the best guitarists as well. This song as you said was number one when it came out. It's also a song played at many a funeral over the years.
Not only is he one of the greatest male vocalists he is also one of the best guitar players we’ve seen. Most ppl don’t know of him but music artist sure do.
I had the upmost privilege to talk to Vince Gill. He is the most humblest and kindest man I've ever talked too. He is brilliant and amazing. He wrote that song after his brother died. It gives me chills everytime I hear it.
One of my fave country artists ever. Super respected. It's why stars like Carrie want to work with him. This song is one of my faves from him. Another fave is Whenever You Come Around. His voice is heavenly for sure.
Loooove Vince Gill! The 2 singing with him is Patty Loveless and Ricky Skaggs. Both are just as highly talented singers on their own. If I could recommend songs by patty loveless it would be How can I help you say goodbye and you don't even know who I am. And Ricky Skaggs would be I wouldn't change you if I could or Country Boy.
Do yourself and all of us all a favor and do a reaction to Vince"s "I Still Believe In You"! I promise you will be doing a "stinkface" throughout the entire song!! It's amazing!!
Other Vince Gill Songs that I like: "Liza Jane", "Don't Let Our Love Start Slippin' Away", "One More Last Chance", "What the Cowgirls Do", "High Lonesome Sound" "The Heart Won't Lie" (Reba McEntire with Vince Gill), "Daydream" (Kermit the Frog with Vince Gill), "I Will Always Love You", (Dolly Parton with Vince Gill)
If you want a real tear jerker, watch “Go Rest High On That Mountain “ performed at the Grand Ole Opry for George Jones’s funeral. Vince is crying orange juice and it’s live.
When my friend Jason died in an apartment fire trying to save another tenant+his body was found in their doorway) his friends requested this song be played. The church refused though they did allow a reading of The Road Less Traveled. We played the song in the parking lot as the people filed our of the church. No one complained. We were so proud.
I love Vince Gill, he has always been one of my favorite vocalists. His voice is truly beautiful. This song is also beautiful. It's also special to a lot of people. I know that when my grandmother passed it was sung at her funeral, and I know many other people who also had this played. It is heartfelt, and expresses the belief that they are in a better place, and the sincerity that he sings these lyrics with has comforted many people. Edit: I fixed my mistake, and learned not to comment on something when I'm half asleep.
I had this song played at my Dads funeral. He wrote this after his brother died. Last I heard he did a tour with the Eagles 🦅 after Glen Fry died. ❤️❤️🔥
Vince Gill is not a singer, He is a vocalist. There is a big difference. His voice is 1 in a million. Anyone in Country Music would be honored to share a stage with him.
Not only one of my favorite artists ever but I did get to see him live about 25 years ago and it's still the best concert I've ever been to. His voice is amazing live
Vince has one of the smoothest voices in all of country then and now. If this song don't bring a tear to your eye you need to go to the doctor cause your heart stopped. I'm so thankful to still have my dad around at 40. He's 75 now and has taken a beating and this song always makes me think about that day. Some days I can't even listen to it, but those old men are tough af. He walked a mile the next day after back surgery. I couldn't hardly get out the bed after mine and he's had 4
I love how you love the heart and soul of the music. Vince is the real deal. I saw him play to a packed arena in KC, but he was singing only to me. 🤣 He just stands and sings with his guitar--no fancy lights or stage show, and has multiple CMA Entertainer of the Year awards for all the reasons you nailed in your video. Try "If You Ever Have Forever In Mind."
I’ve been listening to Vince’s music since I was 14 in 1994. Vince has an amazing high tenor voice. He sings with the Eagles now. I remembered when this song first came out. It wasn’t a huge hit. I think it was top 20 song. Now Vince sings this song at a lot of people’s funeral in the entertainment industry. Its a very popular funeral song now.
“When I Call Your Name” by Vince has one of the best vocals in country history.
100% agree
That is my favorite song of his!
Love that song Vince can make you cry for sure though
Every song he made was awesome
Absolutely!
Ricky Skaggs and Patty Loveless are the two singing with him and they are also phenomenal
Truth! Ricky Skaggs is a phenomenal musician. Patty Loveless is too often overlooked. She’s very talented
Agreed with both comments. Phenomenal is exactly the right sentiment 😊
Oh yeah. That harmony is unmatched!
@@ddwm_mua that harmony is unmatched. I've yet to hear another rendition of this song that brings me to tears the same way. 🙌🙏

Thank u for the recommendations and the info. I have never listened to Vince Gill b4. I plan to remedy this the rest of this day. Beautiful.
Vince Gill has the voice of an Angel! This song always brings on the tears.
Vince is Country Music Hall of Fame. Period. He is one of the single greatest country singer/songwriters ever. He has 22 Grammy Awards.
AMEN ❤
Vince is humble. When singing with Carrie he just laid back and his simple, perfect harmony made her better. He makes everyone better.
The vocal harmonies are gut wrenching. They are beautiful and melancholy at the same time. Very bittersweet.
He sang this with Patty Loveless at George Jones funeral, and that will make you cry
That was heartbreaking.
This was played at my brothers funeral August 2023 - still brings me to tears 🥺😢😭
It was played at my son's funeral..
He was the love of my life.. I'm brought to tears every time I hear this..
I've dedicated this song to my son in law, who recently passed at the age of 33. This song brings me to tears every time. I loved him so much.
He’s a country legend! One of the best male vocalists EVER!
Vince is one of my favorite voices ever. Pierces through to the heart & soul. THIS is also one of the most beautiful songs ever written!
