I'm about to buy my first pair of hearing aids. This was very helpful. Thank you. I don't care what they look like and I want rechargeable batteries and volume controls on the hearing aid itself. Don't care to have to rely on bluetooth.
I’m glad this was helpful! Knowing what you want will enable you to tell the audiologist your preferences so they can recommend a hearing aid that will fit those and your needs.
Excellent explanation of BTE hearing aids. I'm at the point of needing my first hearing aid, and your video has indicated that I should talk to my audiologist about them. On my first visit, I was shown and tried top of the range RIC, which wowed me, but so far I'm undecided. Can you go into more detail about any issues with ambient sound with moulded ear pieces (crossing the road, strong winds etc) and any difficulty when wearing spectacles with BTW devices? Thank you again for your advice.
What is your degree of hearing loss? Mine is moderate to severe so I need the power a BTE offers to reduce (it eliminates it for me) feedback, and pushing the upper sound clarity thresholds. Yes, I can do that! Thank you for the great video ideas!!
I have oticon miniRITE with a power receiver and custom mold. I love it. My hearing is normal in the low frequencies, moderate loss in middle frequencies, and severe to profound loss in the high frequencies. My power receiver can amplify up to 100dB. My high frequency loss is right at 95 dB so I need all of the power I can get. I may need a BTE in the future as my hearing loss progresses, but the RITE/RIC is perfect for me now!
agree. widex RIC were giving horrible FEEDBACK. switch to BTE LIVIO. custom earmold and like you, moderate-severe they are perfect. will now get the new starkey BTE genesis when available. thanks for your video. well done
The biggest thing i noticed about BTE hearing aids apart from the power was the size of the batteries it took 675 the largest a BTE could take! Because my loss is profound i have powerful BTE hearing aids! And am considering a cochlear implant in one ear! Why do companies still push the invisible hearing aids? The stigma is bad enough when your young & need aids! So its down to people like emily to make hearing aids cool to wear! I am doing my bit with coloured earmolds! Maybe in america people dont care if their hearing aids can be seen! Nobody bats an eye lid when you wear glasses or get braces for your teeth! But you get people that think your stupid when you wear hearing aids, this has to stop our ears dont work but our brains do 😠😠💖💖
You seem honest. That's been rare in my search for help with hearing problems. I'm retired and can't afford $4000, or more right now. Are there any over the counter BTEs you can recommend? Thank you.
I still have yet to see an OTC BTE. RICs are all I’ve seen. The reason for this is the FDA only approved the OTC hearing aids for adults for mild to moderate losses. For those with severe to profound losses (like me in my right ear) an OTC hearing aids doesn’t work. They need the power of a BTE. OTC hearing aids are not made for that severe to profound degree of hearing loss. So the solution for that severe of a loss is to go to an audiologist and get a “prescription” BTE. If you need help paying, look up and consult with your state’s vocational rehabilitation department. They may be able to help.
@@DefiniteHearing since posting.. I've learned that my insurance will actually cover some costs. So,.. my primary care doctor has written a referral to a ENT doctor. The office has several ENTs and Audiologists and a hearing aid center. I'm hoping to get an appointment soon. With the written referral there's no charge for the exam. One more question.. with prescription hearing aids .. can we get Bluetooth capabilities and rechargeable aids (no batteries)?
When you had RICs, What power level were you given? If you were given a low power receiver, you certainly wouldn't get by.. You would need a medium power level probably for your loss,.. I'm flat moderate and use a medium power and they sound great.. The RIC is more preferred because they have more open space for a more natural sound amplification, as the receiver is placed inside the ear. Most people ive known with a variety of losses do soo well with RIC.. I'm surprised you had no lick with it. It also depends on the manufacturer.. Also, Whats the difference between the slim tube and regular BTE?.. other than that, they're really similar and are supposed to fit all ranges of hearing loss, which is why they have multiple power levels to accommodate all losses,..
@@DefiniteHearing I cant remember the brand. Its been awhile. I just remembered thinking if this is what its like to hear "normally" I'll live without.
Getting my first hearing aids in 3 weeks (from VA) and definitely enjoy your videos (I'm 71). Very informative and helpful. Thank you.
I’m so grateful you’ve found my videos to be helpful. Thank you for letting me know!
I was self conscious about my BTE at first… but have come to embrace them
I’m glad to hear you’ve been able to overcome that self conscious feeling. It is certainly an adjustment.

You’re welcome
did you notice a difference in the quality of music particularly in the bass tones with bte, vs the ric?
Yes. BTE is better for me.

@@DefiniteHearing Ohh, you need a medium power receiver in that! thats why
Im very disappointed in mine. I quit wearing them. All I could hear was noise. Never could talk to people as I couldn't hear what they were saying.
What brand did you have and what kind of loss do you have?
