  • I participated at one of main attractions / things to do / ceremonies in Luang Prabang, Laos, which is Alms Giving Ceremony. Unfortunaltely the beautiful spiritual ceremony has become almost fully into a tourist attraction.

Extremely informative video, I was listening to this while cooking and I truly thought this was a some insider journalist report on the news haha. Extremely well spoken and respectful attitude towards it, I appreciate how you inform the audience about this, (including me, I wasn’t aware of the effect that tourists have had on this ceremony). A very casual and realistic commentary! Cheers, looking out for more of your content 😌

Yes hopefully! I’m trying to visit my friend in Kenya and I also always wanted to go to Rwanda so that might be a back-to-back trip.

Great ceremony. Laotian people pay homage to Buddha.

I have seen how the monks ritual is done in Thailand and I agree that what you have been differ. One obvious in your video is that you have no monk blessing....and yes, it's because more a "tourist ritual" than a "buddhist ritual" : monks themselves know very much why they have to proceed like that. One best way to view the authentic is simply to visit a rural village wat : the wat and the monks are part of a community and there is no tourist procedure. I have seen the same elsewhere : in Vietnam, in mountains near Ha Noi, our bus stopped in an "authentic village", and authentic village people floked nearby the bus, and we share with them one hour in their "authentic houses". In fact, it was simply a pale image of traditionnal living.

Yes, this happens. The same for example in Kenya, where tourists pay quite high fee to get into the « authentic » village, where people literally live off from the tourist activities, not from the traditional means. Thanks for the reccommendations.
