As I'm watching you walk around all of these beautiful places, I'm finding it hard to believe that I was walking around those very same places just two months ago! I totally fell in love with Luang Prabang and hope to go back one day to see all the things I may have missed. Even though I was there in the rainy season, all the rain seemed to fall at night, leaving the days to be sunny and hot. Just wonderful! ❤
Visited Laos, Luang Prabang in 2019 and I'm going back this April 2024 during the new year spending 5 days there ... to say I'm excited is an understatement its one of the most beautiful, magical places on this earth ❤
Wow so surprised I was eating breakfast in the best viewpoint cafe just weeks ago. Lungprabang is relaxing place and looking to revisit in the future again. Keeping up with the good videos.
Very informative and your insights as a local hits different! I had a better understanding of Luang Prabang from your video, Nat! Only thing missing now is to finally make that visit 😊
It is. You should consider creating tours with included meditation. That would be awesome. Now that I have bought Dammapadda I am soon prepared :). Combined hiking with vipassana, that would be quality.
@@natnomadThank you very much. Just a fun sidenote. Maybe you could make some small guides on those subjects too? I found this excellent channel "Buddhism" but you have your personal style and imho it could really be the thing that sets this channel apart. Your unique experience.
Btw, have you heard of Björn Natthiko Lindeblad? He passed away two years ago in ALS but he had a very fascinating story. He left a very succesful career as VP of a huge company to become a Buddhist Monk in Wat Pah Nanachat. But after 16 years he found love and decided to leave but he continued talking about Buddhism, meditation and life in general. Did you ever visit that monastery? That is actually another subject. How common is it to enter and leave monasteries? Can you go take "vacation" from them? Or is it more typical that you go in as youth and stay all life? I was also thinking of those famous Shao Lin monks (that I actually met once on a flight). There they have to queue up for years before they are even let in but you get some awesome martial arts education.
I will arrive on February 10th for my 3rd visit from the UK. I volunteered at Big Sister Mouse school for the day last year and went on an Orange Robe tour with guided meditation, which I was not good at!
It still is on my list to visit first thing I go back. Will probably stay for a month to wander and tour. It’s nice to know there is a library there now. When you do have a tour, please post it here. I will definitely sign up with you.
There are two Libraries in Luang Prabang, the one on the video is called"Luang Prabang Library" and another one called"My Library" runs America lady. I will keep you posted if I ever do the tour. That would be a long time away from now, but I've been thinking about for awhile.
Hello from Cambodia. Yes, I love to visit Luang Prabang one day. By the way, you should create another channel to teach Lao language, because I come to see your video after watching some Lao teaching videos. But they are not good.
I'm coming to Lao at the end of June for two weeks. I have been an English teacher for over 20 years in countries all over Asia. I would love to meet local students and help them improve their English. I will be staying at the NamKhan Riverside Hotel, arriving on June 24. I hope I can meet you and you can introduce me to the local students.
Welcome to Luang Prabang in advance. You can drop by at the Big Brother Mouse. It is in town near the main street. Here is where you can meet with Lao students and help them practice their English. Opens from Mondays to Saturdays, morning session is from 9 till 11am and evening from 5 to 7pm. I won't be around by the time you're in town.
Luang Prabang has always been like that. The price of the property is insanely expensive. It is only getting worse after the inflation hit. Back then, you would pay $100k-200k for a three bedrooms house in the old town center. Now it's more
@@natnomad Wow, that's high considering income in Laos. My family was from Xayaboury village. We don't know too much about prices though since we are all here in the US. Thanks for the inside scoop as always Nat. 🙏
Exactly, probably around 5% of all the properties that have been listed for sales are actually sold. No one can afford it. Some houses have been listed for sales since years ago and are still there unsold.
Here is one thing I often wondered about. Is Taoism also prescent in Laos? I always thought Laos had connections to Lao Tse but that is just a coincidence or?
AirBnB is known to be expensive here. The alternative is probably getting a guesthouse room would be a lot cheaper. Or if you can find, renting a fully furnished home with two bedrooms would cost around $500-600/ month. The thing though, it is hard to find a short-term rent here. Most houses are on long-term rent from 6 months to one year
Laos border immigration officers always asking "tips" from chinese tourists. It's so annoying. I know it's common practice in southeast Asia like Laos, Cambodia, and certainly African countries to do that to specifically chinese tourists.
Yea, I hope they change it. This topic was brought up during the conference sometime ago, as the government is trying to promote Laos tourism in 2024. Let's hope they change this habit.
@natnomad Cambodia, according to Chinese tourists, is notoriously targeting them for so called tips. If not complied, immigration officers would ask you to step aside from the queue, having you to wait for hours until you give up and hand them money, I too would love to see the ancient site of Angor Wat, but this practice really turns me off, so I decided to not going.
Nice video, from a local!! Thanks for sharing. I will visit Luang Prabang and Vientiane in early Oct, your video really helps. From airport to city centre, just take the fixed price tuk tuk or taxi at airport will be ok? The Luang Prabang airport website does not mention how much is the fixed price, and Grab seems not used in Laos, do you have any information for the transport option? Many thanks!
Both airports have fixed price to the centre. Luang Prabang is 80,000 to town by van. Vientiane airport, there are local buses to the center but not sure what's the schedule. In Laos there is no grab. We use Loca. You can download it from the appstore or play store
Hey Nat, could u bring us to Sop Chem please? I found that the place if quite remote and there isnt much found on youtube about that place. It looked really charming and I would love to learn more about the place and those who live there.

I remembered that, too. When I was a monk here in the U.S. We didn't have cell phones or the Internet 😂. We had to find things to do in the temple.

Sad but true. They do it to everyone coming in to Laos. They always asked for extra dollars, like $1.
