im a big fan of Saitek harware. I have some goflight and Vrinsight things, but they are expensive and you need to buy many of them to build a cockpit. Saitek has great quality and is basically plug and play
Yes it did. Happy flying!
The shelf idea is great, just make sure that you are able to sit comfortably at the unit. It will take some time to adjust the shelf height to what is best for you.
There is some play, yes. It can be a bit annoying at first but then I remembered a C172 I flew at Sporty's that had a nice dead zone on the yoke. It had about the same amount of "Wiggle" as the Saitek Yoke.
Nice a/c ctrl! The only device I wouldn't get is the trim. You can do that with button in the yoke.
Are you satisfied with the Cessna yoke? I've heard that it still suffers from the same binding/stickiness of the elevator axis as the "standard" yoke when you're giving it got aileron and elevator input at the same time.
Some people have also said that the 180° aileron angle doesn't really match up well with the relatively short elevator axis.
What are your thoughts on that?
Still trying to decide whether to get...
- a CH Yoke and mod it with softer springs
- a Saitek standard yoke and mod it as well (there is one that makes the spring for the aileron axis obsolete and supposedly improves the "stickiness" issue a lot.
- or a Saitek Cessna yoke, about which I've heard a few conflicting opinions.
alright thanks for the help. I think I might just go with the new one because I'm getting the laptop for college and I want to make sure that x plane will run smoothly on it
I am working on another video that I hope to have up before I leave for Sun N Fun 2013. Which aircraft would you all like to see me pair with the video?
Choices are; C-17 Globemaster Challenger 300 DHC3 Otter PC-12 Mig-29 F-16
Let me know which one you all might prefer.
I do not have Windows 8 but I have heard that if you do a "compatibility" check it should work.
The instrument panels currently only work for FSX and Prepare 3D. There is a new plug in at x-plane.org for the instrument panels but I have never tried it and cannot endorse it yet.
The type of PC you need will depend mostly on how nice you want the sim to look. If you have a desktop with at least a quad core proc, dedicated video card of moderate strength (and no more than 3 years old), and the required memory you should be good. I ran that entire rig on my laptop(Alienware first Gen M17x)
I agree. I'm running 3 montiors and after some tweaking it works for the most part. I heard xplane takes advantage of a graphics card better than FSX.
Cool, I might try using clamps because I have an actual desk. Wish I thought to use shelving instead of a desk, I see it has more flexibility of what you can put on it.
You have a lot of choices today for a PC but not as many for the Simulator program.
PC first - If you are buying a desktop try to get a pc with specs no lower then
i-5 quad core ( or comparable AMD), Nvidia GTX 760 (or comparable AMD Radeon Chip), min 8 gb RAM, a 120 GB or more SSD for the operating system and sim program. Those specs should keep you safe if you were to order a desktop. Dell, Origin PC, Alienware, and others make great systems.
Simulator Program - X-Plane 10, Microsoft FSX, and Lockheed Martin Prepare 3D are the best flight simulators out there today. All three or capable and scale-able in terms of graphics and realism.
Also, as you purchase the flight siming hardware know that you will have to fine tune sensitivities for realism.
If you search at x-plnae org you should find plug ins that work with MAC. Sorry for the delay in the response.
The rack is a simple powder coated black steel frame shelving unit.
Anytime, hope the power issue is a simple fix
the flashing is normal. Depending on what aircraft you are flying and sim software. The aircraft issue is whether or not the built in autopilot for the aircraft has a altitude capture mode. In other words, you set the altitude and vs and when the aircraft reaches the assigned altitude it stops climbing. Software issues will vary depending on the plug-in you are using and which simulator. Give me some more details I will try to duplicate your issue.
I assigned reverse to a button on the yoke. Currently I am unaware of any way to assign reverse to the throttle quadrant throttle axis.
I have used it in FSX. All you need are the stock drivers from Saitek and you are good to go; I also think that Windows has a built in driver to make it usable, Win 7. Not sure about Win 8 though.
Tough call. They both have their good and bad sides.
FSX - FSX has a wealth of add on software, new aircraft and sceneries. It is simple to setup and there is a plugin from every hardware and software company that works almost perfectly with the sim.
However, the sim is old! Even with all of the new add ons for it, she is showing her age. You might be better off with Prepare 3D from Lockheed Martin.
Nice set up man! Even nicer flying. That flight was short but everything was smooth and professional. Where can I get these set up attachments?
add a freetrack or trackir to that for the next (huge) step of immersion.
Can you make a video showing step by step how to configurate your kit, I have the same, but I don´t know to do it in my xplane10.
X-Plane - My default sim. I have upgraded to X-Plane 10 since I posted this video. I prefer X-Plane 10 over all other current and old sims. It does come with a learning curve and at times is less intuitive than FSX. However, X-Plane 10 is the best sim right now. After you get used to it you can easily update all the Nav data, add new free or payware aircraft and scenery, and even plug ins.
Just note this, X-Plane 10 is a giant BETA. Be patient with it and take your time learning it.
that setup was done via zip ties. I have now replaced the zip ties with wood clamps, better stability.
I plan to build a yoke system but as I see even a factory made one and a simulator does not have realistic feeling and does not have the small "force feedback" movements during flight
You can get the gear at Saitek's main site or resellers like Sporty's, pilot mall, or even Amazon. Did that answer your question?
Joe great video and landing. I recently got the Cessna pro flight yoke. I was wondering if you have some play or wiggle in the roll axis. It doesnt affect flying but is slightly annoying to me.
Hello,
just wondering if you observe a nasty null-zone issue with your Cessna yoke.
Many users of the normal Saitek Pro Flight yoke, including myself, experience a "clearance" of about 0.5 inches in the pitch axis and some degrees in the roll axis intentionally designed and built in the hardware controller of the unit (see forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/forums/topic/44922-saitek-yoke-dead-zone-issue/)
A couple of users, however, report that the Cessna yoke is not affected by the problem.
Can you confirm by checking in X-Plane's "Joystick & Equipment>>Nullzone" tab and see if the indicator there move even when applying small movements to the yoke?
Thanks
Michel
Put on the yoke or the shelf? My sarcastic side thought of the movie "Airplane" and the moment when they asked what the aircraft looked like.
Cool. I was going to exchange it thinking mine was defective. Barely touching it will wiggle but then stop. About 5.mm then stops once there's spring tension. Next for me is rudder pedals. Do you like xplane better than fsx.
hi thanks for your help but i have found out what it was, there was not enough power coming from my usb cable.
thanks anyway
My M17x is from the 1st gen that they did. It came a full year before the i-7 chips shipped for laptops. It does run an SLI 280m gtx gpu setup, with a 9400m that I have turned off for better performance.
The specs that you have listed should run X-Plane 10 at a similar rate to my laptop if not better. The 650m might be the limiting factor. It should run HDR better than my dual 280m GTXs but the bandwidth is still higher with my dual cards.
Are you purchasing directly from Dell?
I am fliying om xplane and oni mac but i dont succed dont make work my multiple panel. How to do?
hello
I have the same material at home but ihave a big problem; i d'ont know the path for put the profil game. If somebody know, help me please . I have a Windows 10 with 8 Giga Of RAM
Sorry for my english I'm French
Marc Peycelon download drivers from Saitek website, you can also use SPAD. If you are running Windows 10 you may have a problem i had too, no display in the screen. You have to disable the energy manegement so your displays will start working
that was awesome man really cool and great performence you have
I want to explain to you how you can do that, because i recently see in the web. But my english is not perfectly so I'll explain you in spanish and you can read it in the traslator, ok? Well...
Sorry, I was saying that I liked your idea of using, what looks to be shelving units? instead of a desk to put your whole flight simulator setup on.
You seem pretty pro, nice video.
Thank you
i Have the saitek yoke, throttle quadrant, rudder peddles, radio panel, multi-panel, and switch panel. i called and they said it wont work but you are using it in your video so im just wondering what i have to do cause im buying x plane 10 tonight and i want it work with all the saitek products. i really appreciate the help
I am working on a video response for your issue. All of the products should work when paired with the correct third party add on. Just to be sure, everything is working for you except for the pro flight panels, correct?
nope, wish I could. 3rd generation US citizen and my grandmother that recently passed was the only person left that spoke some.
If you are purchasing from Dell get the newer model with the NVidia 750m. If you are purchasing from a re-seller, then look at the new MSI laptops that come with the new Nvidia 780m GTX. That card alone has more power than both of mine together.
If you like the M14x then go with it. IF you are buying it to run X-Plane alone then go and make your own desktop with the money you would spend on the M14x. Looking back at what I paid for my M17x I should have just made a desktop with that money.
Very Nice! How did you mount the yoke to the bottom of your desk?
I will place a link to the shelf in the video.
the link for the shelf is now in the video description box.
This is a great video on the use of Saitek control products. I really like the Cessna control yoke, but many reviews I've read online say that there is a center detent issue that make it difficult to use for fine adjustments needed for landing, etc. What's your take on that complaint? Thanks again for the great video. DH
Are you using Microsoft FSX? If so make sure that you are selecting the other throttle quadrant when assigning the values. X-Plane is even simpler.
great video, nice setup you have there.
when i turn my altidute on my multi panel to 1500 or any number its fine but when i turn the left know to vs or anything then all the buttons flash and the alt goes back to 0000. to know anything i could do ?
I saw this video with good mind. but I have a question about yoke.I got this kind of yoke few hours ago. and when I using it, It always set turn left. so I can not turn and handle it. up and down is possible. Would you mind if you let me solve the problem, plz?
Nice setup bro.
That looks like an Alienware M-17x Frisbee/paperweight...
this is nice, but can this work on a mac and is it necessary to get every piece of the system (i.e. the switch panel and radio panel).... if not what are the most important piece we should get.. obviously the yoke system and....
It is not necessary to get every piece. The main components that you need are the yoke, rudder pedals, and a throttle quadrant, and yes they work with mac. In X-plane and FSX the cockpits are built to be used with a mouse, so you can click and change things with the mouse cursor as needed. The panels and such make it simpler and more pilot friendly in getting you used to turning knobs and flicking actual switches.
looks great
thank you. I have a new video with a portable unit now, the video is over here
Saitek Portable Simulator update
Can you explain the reverser and how you set that up?
hi, does your yoke make click noise when being pulled and twisted? see my video Yoke Noise
I had 2 yoke, they are all same
Translated into Spanish for you.
Gracias por la info, voy a dar que probarlo cuando vuelvo a casa.
You might have to run "Windows 8 Comparability Mode" to solve any issues, but otherwise yes.
Great video.. excellent job..I am trying to set this up on a desktop with MS FSX for some reason all the Saitek panels hooked up are not being recognized. Should I used powered USB 3 or USB 2 hubs will that make a difference ? The radio panels and the multi panels are not stable and it's very difficult to use. Any suggestions. .thanks
The powered USB hubs are a must! Any USB 2.0 powered hub will work. There are add-on hubs that you can connect directly to your motherboard but I still prefer an external powered usb hub.
Thanks for the update..appreciate it. I got a powered hub and it works much better now...thanks..
Hy Joseph Szpak. My question is. Is the Saitek equipment (Multi Panel, radio panel and yoke System) Compatible with Windows 8?
You have to run them is "Compatibility Mode" in Win 8.0. There seems to be better reliability in Win 8.1.
do you have to have the trim for fsx because I don't have enough and I can only get the game yoke system and throttle equipment please get back to me
Track IR or similar in your system would work great!
But nice video and system! :)
Thanks Joseph, hey,, i installed the plug in for my multi-panel and ive been trying to fly with it on xplane 10 but it seems really different from microsoft FSX, i understand the flashing lights on the multi-panel but i cant change the altitude for the autopilot in flight,, am i doing something wrong? Thanks for the vid!
Hello, my name is Nick and I am currently wanting to get into flight simulator. I am starting from scratch. Would you be able to share with me a few things such as the type of computer system and desktop tower, etc you use and also how the trim wheel, yoke, and throttle all hook up to the computer. Thanks so much and great set up. I want mine to look like that!!!
Sorry, I play a cheap flight simulator on my iphone and do everything from it. I currently own a laptop and want to buy a desktop suitable for this simulator. Just wondering a good affordable setup
What does the joystick thing do? If you have the wheel do you still need one?
hey Joseph was wondering cause i built a full sim in my garage and i have all saitek equipment but i called mad catz and they said it wont work with x plane 10 was wondering how i can i plug in and play with them using x plane 10 or do i have to install a certain driver
thanks
thank you, I really enjoyed your video. This really helped me. :)
Where can I get that autopilot system you have above your screen? (Where you insert altitude, heading and vs, and where you activate autopilot, dont know what its called) ? )
I got a yoke, pedals and throttle quadrant, just need the autopilot system if you know what i mean? :)
Michael Jensen the system is the Saitek/Logitech Multi Panel. www.logitechg.com/en-us/product/flight-sim-autopilot-multipanel
Good video, very well done.
still all messed up i went to the link and downloaded the driver from saitek but the pro flight panels wont work in tune with my x plane 10 so if you can help that would be great
Nice setup. No TrackIR?
Any chance for a more detailed video on buttons assignment s for noobs like me?
Thanks.
Dekel
Sure. I will be detailing that over at Joe ndbaviation. That is my new youtube channel that I am moving/producing new content on. You can also find it on facebook/twitter called NDBAVIATION
Hey, Nice landing! I have a Logitech joystick and saitek throttle quadrant. Will this work without plugins. I'm asking because i already have FSX and just recently switched to a Mac and don't want to buy windows. I'm looking at buying x plane. Please respond.
Thanks
you werent flying out of ottawa were you?
Hi, can you tell me whether you are using mac or pc, if you are using pc, do you know whether all of this equipment will work on xplane 9 mac??
You would need to check the forums at x-plane.org
From what I have been told they do but I would double check. Most of the plugins have moved to X-Plane 10. With that said I am not 100 percent sure what will and won't work on a Mac these days.
Nice set up
Thank you!
Awesome setup man :p
Could you link the rack?
yes it is.
Hi my Cessna trim wheel is way too sensitive, is there any ways how to calibrate it properly? Thanks
Depends on which flight sim you are using. Any sim based off of FSX you can change the basic sensitivity in the sim settings. In X-Plane it can be tougher. Which sim are you using?
I'm using x plane
Hi Joseph... My yoke, rudder, and pedals are too sensitive for the C172... how can I change these settings to make the sim more realistic? Thank you!
what sim are you using?
I am using x plane 10.
You need to change the sliders for sensitivity in X-Plane under "settings" and "joysticks and buttons."
Please check out this video from my other account, my business page.
ruclips.net/video/1kir0h5oRxs/видео.html
How did you configurate the reverse?? I try to do that but I dont know how. Can you explain me it please? Regards from Spain :D
do u know the specs of your m17x? i am about to get a m14x with the i7 3.4GHz processor, 16GB dual channel DDR3 memory, 1GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 650M with Optimus video card, and a 750GB 7,200 RPM SATA + 32GB mSATA Caching SSD hard drive. And i was wondering if u think this setup would work well for x plane 10 and the saitek pro flight yoke system, before i purchase them. any help would be greatly appreciated.
nice..
nice
Dude, why do you not use fsx
Alex Osterrieth I do but at that time I was mostly using X-Ppane. The fsx programs out today are very nice and are my go to for practicing some basic skills at home for the new aircraft I fly. At this point each program has specific uses for me and my training needs. Some aircraft with reasonable modeling of systems are only available on one program.
HI, how do you have your yoke mounted? I mean without the clamp? Cheers.
Wood clamps. Now I have attached it to a table via drilling.
Here is my latest setup. New one is in alpha build.
Joe NDBAVIATION ruclips.net/video/yr8bB19ZjtA/видео.html
Which products are you using? I can better assist you once I know. Some devices will require a driver and if Saitek does not produce it "In House," then they will most likely not recommend it. My next video will cover some basic X-Plane 10 issues and suggestions. If you have not already, go check out x-plane.org
i like your lvl of cool :D
Hey mate just wanna ask watkind and specs of laptop ur using.?? And how to plug another monitor to laptoo.?
Most laptops with a quad core cpu and a discrete video card will run most sims at reasonable settings. The cheaper the laptop the less performance. As for the laptop in the video it is 2009 Alienware M17x R1. Way out of date for the current simulator programs. You can buy a new Alienware or similar laptop. As for hooking up a monitor or a tv to a laptop. All you will need is an HDMI port on the laptop to make it easy. There are other ports that can be used but that is the most common. You will need a different connector other than the HDMI port if you want a high refresh rate such as 144hz.
Joseph Szpak tnx for the reply :) still using the yoke ? :)
Hi everyone I was just wondering if this game (xplane 9) will work with a regular home PC not a gaming specific one? I want to get into flight simulation and am wondering what set up will work.
That is a pretty broad question about PC these days. Most pcs around the $1000 Mark will handle xplane and it's latest generation(xplane 11). I will link a few examples of you can give me a price range.
Joseph Szpak I was looking on the 500$ or less mark
Joseph Szpak thank you for your reply.
you need a cockpit son. link below
windows its is compatible i have win 8
hi you happy with the yoke?
Yup! After all these years it still works like the day I got it!
+Joseph Szpak thanks also the rudder peddles have you up graded to new onces?
+James leicher I am still using everything in the video. All of the products have maintained a high level of functionality except for the trim wheel. The trim wheel bit the dust last year.
+Joseph Szpak did it literally bite the dust hehe
if u want to fly a 737 do u need two throttles ?
No, you don't.
What laptop are you running his on?
I was using my 2009 Alienware M17x R1. However, the Alienware has fallen on some hard times and just can't run sims anymore. I have built a new PC that I will detail on a video soon. I have another channel "JoeNDBAVIATION" where you will find new videos soon. There has been a delay because of the old laptop and building the new pc. Also a new job has taken the majority of my time.
Most of the brand new laptops with a discrete video card will run flight sims at this point.
what all controls u got there on this video?
Saitek Cessna Yoke RuddersTrim, Switch panel, multi panel, and twin Saitek throttle quadrants.
What site did u go to get that stuff from and do you know where I can find fsx game at cheap maybe even gold edition?
Just posted a new video that might help.
you went too low on your approach but nice vid thou
Is your surname polish?
