Gynocentrism is as much a problem of collective perception as it is our collective behaviour. Gynocentrism is the driving force of gamma bias (absolutely brilliant video!). Our prioritisation of female wellbeing on the basis of simply being female leads to gamma bias. Great to see the field of male psychology investigating it! Excellent actually.
Everynow and then a great vid comes along. I have to share this one far and wide.

Let's finally admit to ourselves and each other that Camile Paglia's obliteration of the notion of The Patriarchy ( ruclips.net/video/ABXCNKWCHbc/видео.html 5:58-6:04)is no less applicable to deliberately vague and amorphous drivel like this whole business of Gynocentrism. Yes, it's true that we humans sympathize more readily with all creatures that APPEAR to be cute and cuddly at first glance, be they dolphins or attractive young women. Ergo, both shark conservationists and men's advocates have to be twice as innovative when pursuing their goals as do dolphin conservationists and women's advocates. That's just life though; no amount of us protesting or lamenting is going to rewire the human race into something that other than what we are
The assertion that we must first eliminate this quirk of human cognition via a psychological revolution(an assertion put forth by folks like Paul Elam from the mid-10s-today, which has gone unchallenged for an unforgivably long time)BEFORE we can achieve legal and policy reform doesn't just give rational thought a bad name: It's inconsistent with the way in which humans have advance the cause of liberty and justice for all throughout the history of our species

This codifies perfectly the feminist's toolkit for argument, as well as the cultural and media narrative to pander to feminist agendas. I routinely see in the British Press, such as the BBC website, examples of Gamma bias, such as the domestic violence statistics 2019 which showed an increase in DV against women but made no mention of the DV committed by women against men - the focus of the article was on the increase against women. (I can't find the article because the BBC's search tool is just awful.) Another example of a cultural, and legal change, is this one: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-53012585 which proposes that misogyny become a hate crime in law. So that's a double whammy for a man harming a woman - he'll get an enhanced punishment, as if men don't already serve stiffer sentences than women, on average, when committing the same crimes. How they might measure misogyny motivation is beyond me. But notice there is no equivalent misandry hate crime proposed?

Wow, I think this can make us more systematic and rigorous in our social criticism. I'm not sure how much use that is in persuading unwashed Reddit users, but perhaps we'll win over more clever people to our cause this way.

Good question. Not as far as I know, though there is already lots of evidence showing the existence of gamma bias that doesn't explicitly apply the theory e.g. this study ruclips.net/video/iR9tixOJSi0/видео.html recently published which was also presented at the Male Psychology Conference 2019.

Hi! you provide good examples to support the theory, as you suggested, but none to attempt to falsify it. I realize this may have been outside of the scope of this initial presentation, but you state in the video that the theory would be tested against empirical evidence (if any) towards the beginning of this video. Any updates on that? Id be very interested to know.
I would also like to attempt to falsify it, but I (or any one person, with one lived experience) am not an ideal for comprehensively undertaking something like that, so.. yeah. updates would be fantastic

The problem is nothing is ever going to change.
We must focus our efforts in helping men individually to navigate through and succeed despite all this gender bias (and mostly, not feel guilty about putting themselves first and women last).
    Society will NOT change.

Societies change all the time. Certainly we must support individual men suffering through gender bias, but we can't lose the focus and energy to push for change at every opportunity.

@@karma99 Societies do change, usually for the worse, and usually by those who have all the power in their hands.
Our society is dominated by few, privileged, powerful men, that obtain great benefit in manipulating the masses of women to feel oppressed by the masses of men, while they, the few privileged and poweful men, rise even further above the common man.
This dynamics is not going to change because it's comfortable for the few privileged men and for most women, even if it hurts most men. Just like slavery, that did eventually change, but it took 400 hundred years to do so despite hurting and oppressing generations after generation of people back then.

The fact that the gender of heroes is not celebrated is a good thing. Celebrate people, not labels. But of course, the same needs to apply to everything else. Any victim should be able to get help, any person contributing a significant development to humanity should be celebrated, any person doing harm should be punished according to the law - all without consideration of gender, race or any other label.

It's not a matter of celebrating the gender, it's about mentioning it. These biases create excess compassion for women and a deficit of compassion for men.

Aren't "biases" supposed to be ways in which human psychology works? This sounds like the researchers dislike some cultural norms of western democracies and so they call them "biases". Is there any "gamma bias" in Saudi Arabia?

    • @thecentreformalepsychology8489
      @thecentreformalepsychology8489  4 года назад +14

Biases change with time and are different across culture. Like much in the field of psychology, the animation applies mainly to what is happening today in western culture. Some people will dislike the animation because it makes them have to face the fact that anti-male bias is the norm these days in the west. You can't convincingly argue there is no bias against men in the west just because there is bias against women somewhere else in the world, or in some part of history.
