  • I did source a new spring from Steiner Tractor so I will be installing that as the one in the video is too light.

    I had problems with the governor on mine and can't remember what I did to fix it...i still don't have full throttle...might be the spring....that fix put a smile on your face !

      The first gov was plum wore out, loose as could be. The second one is pretty tight but this is the second spring Ive replaced. I have sourced a proper replacement as this one is too light, it wont hold rpm under load. Im still going to overhaul the original one. Ol girl runs really good for her age. Has done a lot of work for me and done it well.

    Omgoodness I love it! Farmalls are our family tractors …my uncle has one that he used in tractor pulls all the time …it’s now sitting but it’s still a beautiful piece and filled with awesome memories. Governor looked easy to get to…awesome stuff my friend! 👍✨🌻

      Thats awesome, I had gotten this one for tractor pulls. I was self employed at the time and ended up putting it to work instead, lol. Now it just plows my driveway in winter.

      Thats great, thanks for watching. Ebay has been a big help for me sourcing parts. I dont have any tractor salvage places close by. One I can think of but its almost two hours away.

      Thank you, its a pretty good running tractor. I havent had much troubles with it other than the gov is wore out. I have an old 8N ford too in about the same shape as the farmall here.

      Thanks Vic, the spring is a little weak. Its usable but wont hold full rpm under load. Luckily I found a spring on line, that rascal is 10 bucks tho, dang, lol.

    Good stuff I wouldn't think they had governor's back then but I don't have a tractor yet 6 acres I should but the cost even at the age.

      Theyre not bad. This is a 1948, it handles a 6 ft finish mower and a 5 ft bush hog. I have an 8 ft grading box that I plow my driveway with its a little heavy for the hydraulics but it does it. I need weights in front as it get pretty light when the implement is lifted.

      Good to know, I'll check them out. I had just found a spring through Steiner Tractor they want 10 bucks for that bad boy tho. I'll get it most likely since the one I used is a little weak.

    Yeah a tractor video!! LOL I've had some experience with those governors on a 130 Farmall. Very similar.
    Hope you can find a stiffer spring. That should take up some of the non responsiveness in the throttle lever.

      @GuntersGarage  2 года назад

      Way back when I first had problems with it I couldnt find one. I recently found one at Steiners Tractor. I'll be getting one, this one is too light. It does fine riding around but under load it drops rpm.

    When putting the governor back together is there supposed to be any lubrication inside?

    • @GuntersGarage
      @GuntersGarage  6 месяцев назад

      You could put some in there so its not dry on first start but I dont think its critical. Once the engine starts in a few moments oil will be circulated to it.

  • @jrgold490
    @jrgold490 Год назад

    Something isn’t right, you should have almost instant rpm change as you move the throttle lever. It looks delayed. Having the correct spring is important, if it’s soft you are not going to have the same power.

    • @GuntersGarage
      @GuntersGarage  Год назад

      Thats correct, the spring is soft making squishy throttle response. This is also in part with a worn out governor making a lot of looseness in the linkage. I mentioned in the video this will get me by until I can rebuild the governor and install the correct spring.

    Nice ole tractor Gunter! What year is it? Is it difficult to get parts?

    • @GuntersGarage
      @GuntersGarage  2 года назад

      Thanks, its a 1948. You can find parts to rebuild most stuff on it. Theres not much to the older tractors. You can get engine overhaul kits for them. If you mess up the transmission or differential youl have to find a used one for gears and such. Bearings can be sourced through many places but most stuff can be found in kits on line. Theres a few places that sell antique tractor parts new. Mostly the popular tractors, Farmall, John Deere, Ford, Alis Chalmers and some others.

    I have a 1948 C and the throttle seems to be stuck wide open, does anyone think I have a similar problem?

    • @GuntersGarage
      @GuntersGarage  7 месяцев назад

      I would definitely take the governor off and see if the spring is broke.

  • @mattmopar440
    @mattmopar440 8 месяцев назад

    So I have one that will Rev up but wont rev down is this the same issue by chance ?

    • @GuntersGarage
      @GuntersGarage  8 месяцев назад +1

      Thats a good question. The way it works with the spring inside it pulls or extends the spring to rev up and when you decelerate the rpms the spring will collapse and is basically a pusher from the throttle input arm to the governor arm. If its not slowing down I would say look into wear in the shaft and or shaft bearing/bushing. Also wear in throttle linkages. This could let it rev up and enough play just lets the linkages flop around and not really push it closed to slow down. Just a guess really but someplace to start. Mine doesnt slow to a full idle either but its not bothersome so I leave it be. My governor is pretty wore out.
