CAN FLEX SEAL STOP an OIL LEAK on a Rusty Rear Axle???

- We took in a Grandpa fresh Toyota Tacoma as a trade-in. The rear differential was so rusted out that it was leaking. Literally oozing out of the axle housing. I drained the oil, cleaned up the diff, knocked off as much rust as I could and sprayed it with brake clean. Then generously applied Flex Seal. Did it work? #TACOMA #flexseal #fixedisfixed #rusty #oilleak

Way to go! This truck is sealed up and ready to hit the road! 💪🔛
😂
It broke the next day had to take his truck to the junk yard
You right i fix my 2005 ranger with that flex seal thank you,
No more leaks,
My mechanic say can cost me $280 to be fix but thanks to RUclips and those videos i can fix my car leak for just $6 flex seal and 45 minutes working in my parking area =save $274
Flex seal is the newest iteration of bubble gum and bailing wire.
Great help for us caught up in the same problem. Thank you for sharing your experience and problem solving method. God bless🙌🏻
Fix lasted a couple of months. Enough time to get through winter, so now I can weld on a new rear cover.
THANK YOU!!! going to try exact same on my 4Runner!
Gonna do this to the oil pan in my 7.3 sure beats pulling the engine for a new pan
Thanks. I think I'll try it on my 01 Tundra. My rear axle isn't quite as bad.
Thanks gonna try this on an old mustang oil pan leak🎉
Man that thing is rusty. I live in Detroit so I'm super familiar with massive rust :( Glad you got it sealed up. Just don't bump that center section on anything lol
I did the same thing on a few of my yotas. One I used flex seal paste other I used Pur 15. 1 month in they’re both still sealed. Hope they last a wile
I have a 99 4runner with the same issue. I've jb welded it twice now. Usually lasts about a year. Was thinking flex seal will be my try this time around (leaking again). Doubt it will last u more than a year, but hopeful
That breather on the top of the housing looks choked up. This could cause a buildup of pressure forcing the oil out any weak area (perhaps only marginal though)
YES, IT WILL FORCE HOT OIL OUT.
nah, needs a 2jz #sellcaseytaco
in all seriousness, I love my Tacoma. They're hard to beat.
If you find a good deal on an axle down south, you should road trip that truck to pick it up.
Haha, 77% confident!
Any update on this fix? Holding up?
Not really a long term solution, the oil will break the rubber down over time. My vote is to cut it off and weld on a new cover.
Thinking this will fix my small timing cover leak on my 305 SBC...definitely going to try this !
I would love to hear if it works!!!
@@PatinaPitstop I'll update...
Did your boss sell you the Taco ?
@@tynandill926 Did it work for your timing cover? Might do this too!
@@PatinaPitstopGreat video.. I'm getting ready to try this on a 2008 Kia Sorento differential.. did you use automotive flex seal or just regular flex seal? I cant seem to find the automotive flex seal.. is it still holding up?
@@tynandill926update Bro?
Good Afternoon, cool, job. Did it seal?? Thank You Very Much and Stay Safe!!
6 months later...no leaks!
@@PatinaPitstop cool, Thank You!! Stay Safe out there🤗🤗
Update please ASAP
Almost a year later and still not leaking!!!!
Damn 1 year? That's pretty good
What about the breather valve on top. The pressure will build and start leaking if it is broken
You know Dorman parts makes a replacement cover for the rear take it apart cut out the rusty cover and weld in a new one takes 3 hours from start to finish
Can this flex seal work on or near a oil pressure sensor, my oil is leaking wild I have a 2000 acura tl
Did it get hard like JB weld would ?
It says flex seal isnt good for oil leaks
Wow
Need to sand blast that mess lol
Tonight at 6, little girl gets shrapnel from compromised structural integrity
Of course that fixed it...
Hmm i have a leaking rear end on a chevy avalanche but the hole on the bottom. Im gonna try this.
How much would it cost to have the entire underside sand or soda blasted?
I just tried it on a transmission leak on a semi truck 10 speed eaton fuller trans i cant seem to find the leak anywhere so i coated it all over 😅 wish me luck 🤞
How did it hold up?
Any update?
No updates guys… hope the car didn’t blow up
I don't work at that place anymore so I'm having a hard time getting updates
👍👍✔️
😂 awesome
Hi, think this will work on a leaking engine oil pan with a poor rtv installation? My only concern is that there's more heat there than by a diff...thanks in advance
It's worth a try. I would drain the oil and clean the pan really well. Then generously apply Flex Seal!
My 02 Tundra looks just as bad as this one on the Tacoma. I've tried JB Weld, flex seal, permatex, nothing has stopped the leak.
My 06 Tundra looks just as bad. JB Weld didn't fix it. Going to try Por 15. Pinhole at the bottom, of course.
I’m doing this on my engine
I'd like ta know if it worked. If country boy knowin' needs ta be kept secret, okay. Let's try ta talk some car lingo 👍 I imagine ya tried coat after light coat til solid.
Any update
thats what she said
Can I put that on an oil pan leak?
I actually want to try that one!
Go to pick a part and get better rear end
My Nissan Patfinder leak from transfer case it is common
Wondering if this work?
Drain all the fluid out, clean it really good. Apply a ton of Flex seal, let dry for at least 24 hours...should be good to go!
BLACK RTV SEALANT WILL WORK BETTER
This will only make things worse over time it will create more moisture under the flex seal then there was before. Better option for quick fix would not recommend this fix.
It was definitely intended as a temporary fix. I have lost track of the truck but last i heard it wasn't leaking after 1 year.
