This module has a very very important topic, which is not only interesting fur drummers, but also for all areas where people work (or play ) with fast and strong movements and perhaps sweating a lot. I mean touchscreen versus buttons/switches/faders. For years it was the top of technology and new to have the best tap and slide touchscreens. But while playing and with lack of time it is a thousand times better to have a bigger zone or plenty room with a lot of remarkable reference points than a surface, big as a smart phone with only 5 buttons, but 8 different layers of editing levels. Lets get 3 steps back but with modern logic and possibilities.
Touch screen is hands down better. You want a large touch screen with a few knobs and faders to assign inputs to. Touch screen is just more versatile and then you have a few assignable physical controls for fine and quick adjustment.
I'm not sure if I understand that correctly, so these use samples as basis but modeling too for changing the sizes, tension etc? Or are these samples only?
Seem to be sample only, but they are implementing some modeling to the shaping of the sounds, which is something that software like Superior Drummer already do.
I want the 713 footprint with the 716 toms. I wonder if the BD is going to be better than the previous versions 140. That old one feels solid. This new BD looks lighter. If this new BD has no tech up date just cosmetic then I might keep using the old one. I will us Superior Drummer. The sounds are still way better than what I'm hearing on these demos so far. Do you have to have a subscription to use this set as is? If so then I just won't do any upgrades.
Subscription service for a module and an ever increasing price…idk what to think Edit; i do know what to think, a subscription service for a DRUM MODULE, on a kit thats already £7700, thats just in europe. Are you fucking high
Everbody who complains about thr prices. You are wrong. I am a live drummer and had to add to gether the prices of my simple three peace setup for insurence reasona recently. Guess what, it came out at 7k. This is not factoring in mycrophones, new drumheads every tour, new cymbals every two years or so. This is not cheap. But it is not expansive either. And by the way I dont play an expansice ludwig kit and i only play two! Cymbals...
big. It's not a PC but a modelling, WAV and drum synth engine so you can do all three and also run soundworks for VST style kits which uses no internal space but if you like some of those, they load in...Best of all worlds...

I have had the TD 20 kit since 2009. I never was a fan of the snare sounds; they always sounded like a machine gun. I've been wanting to upgrade, but every module since the TD20 still had that lame snare sound. Well, I have a feeling that's all about to change. This kit sounds very natural so far. Time for a loan.
Wait, the whole "V" was their psychical modelling generator. If they're just using a sample library, how us this then just about any other drum software library?
@@TruthAndMoreTruth it uses 3 user editable /layereable engines including modeling, wav triggering and drum synth and usb-c with low latency for streaming SoundWorks directly through the module and out the balanced outs through the p.a. There are also multilayered and fully tweakable DW kits that load directly in. SoundWorks also lets you create your own kits with your own samples. 18x8 layers with 5 mics per drum… huge
Subscription is not a good look, Neither is not having a large touch screen. I'm team Alesis at this point even though I own a td20. Alesis seems to be the only one pushing advancements and I believe the only reason Roland has finally moved to vst style triggering. Rolands just to expensive and under delivers... For example why not wireless triggering now that they own the tech... They hold things back just so they have something to add next time... Same thing with the digital versions of pads, they drip feed upgrades every generation.
*****QUESTION TO ANYONE WHO CAN ANSWER ***** Hi everyone !!! I'm trying to get this kind of reggae snare sound in this video I'm posting (below) at around 6 minutes in and 11:35min in. That high pitched crack when you hit the head as close to rim on an acoustic drum. I tighten the head more around the crotch area, and when I play reggae music, when I angle my stick and hit the head close to the rim, it's like a high pitched screaming kind of thing. Like a high ting !!! 😁👍 I can't get it to do this on my digital snare on the TD27. Have any of you tried this by chance or know how to achieve this ? I dont see how you can control the positional settings inside the snare, so the sensors closer to the rim can sound different. I do get lost in the settings though... I'm just wondering if this is possible, and if anyone can tell me the setting to look for ? The digital snare on the TD27 is a bit better then the one that came on my TD17KVX, but it's just still not everything I want. Close but no cigar anyways....lol Thanks ! i cannot comprehend the point of making electronic drums with full size drum shells that are for aesthetic purposes only. if the shell contributes no sonic purpose, why bother?
Frequent Roland shell player here! The benefit is in ‘feel’. There is shell resonance on impact which makes the playing experience much more realistic. Of course the ‘look’ is part of it, but the shell resonance makes a huge difference in feel compared to the smaller plastic shell pads, at least for me
I feel like the extreme effort taken to get electric drums to sound like acoustic drums is asinine. don’t get me wrong, I’m impressed by this kit, but I’d still choose a $300 pocket kit with a small set of Zildjian A’s over these kits. Now if electric kits were developed more like synths, then I’d be more interested. Or if electric kits were developed with pedals and effects in mind, like an electric guitar. You guys ever hear Dan Mayo play drums with all his effects? give me that in a box.
finally.. after like 40 years, roland departs from that FFT horrible sounds and implements real samples!!, Even thought in the producer perspective I can still hear the old days spilling out from my monitors. It is kind of good that they captured the raw flaws that some times happens with E-Drums 3:10 Choke not picking well Something that I don't quite like is how thin the hihat sounds
As much as I loved my kit, you just can't capture the response needed for a reggae drummer, sad to see the hi-hat has still not been developed further.
Calibration is step 1. Plays perfectly as long as they know what closed is via the calibration. They even recognize L&R hands and skin touch. Doesn’t get better and the new sound engine also allows it to recognize where on the Hats you are playing. Never been possible before

@@dvamateur TD-50 introduced sample playback and modelling. V71 adds a drum synth too so all three possibilities happening in real-time. Make any sound you want or sample your faves.
@@onomatopoeidia I thought that V71 uses round robbin sampling as opposed to physical modeling.
Some great updates, but why oh why can't you make a PD-14X 14" tom pad? Currently I have a PD-108-BC, PD-128-BC as rack toms and a PD-140DS as a 14" floor tom which gives a nice acoustic experience when playing. Will probably swap the 10" and 12" toms out for the PD-10X and PD-12X purely to get rid of the horrible hot-spotting of the 108 and 128! A matching PD-14X would be a welcome addition.
Oh, and as for subscriptions, is this going to be a six month trial of everything you need, then pay per month for the rest of your life if you want to keep it?
Roland é Roland!
I wonder if kits created on the TD-50x could be imported into this new module. Anyone know?
I would say so. There is a free download for all TD50, TD50X and TD30 kits.
Wow !
is a subscription necessary to use this kit? what’s going on???
Nice, I will stick to 1985 Simmons SDS8. XD
Looks awesome but, theres no mention of user samples as far as I can hear, whats the situation there?
@@levia2805 you can add hundreds. Multi-layer and combined with SoundWorks which is included you can create your own samples with 18 dynamic layers 8 nuances x 5 mics per sound!
@@onomatopoeidia dang. these kits are hard
hh why this module don't have 2 mix in like the td50x? i need to use my pedal trigger connected to that port, maybe because of the bluetooth?
LET’S FREAKING GO!!!! 🙌🏼
I wonder if I just got a TD-50x or V71 module to my TD-7 kit, i wonder if it would work.
@@dvamateur yes
@@onomatopoeidia Although I probably wouldn't get all the sound nuances with my rubber PD-7 and PD-9 pads.
Can I use this new module on my 706 with digital hihats snare and ride
Lcd screen is still too small. why? I just can not get it, why??
This is all very cool and all.....but why tf does my pre-order now tell me 3-4 weeks instead of 4th Oct Roland?
Subscription service for a module and an ever increasing price…idk what to think
Edit; i do know what to think, a subscription service for a DRUM MODULE, on a kit thats already £7700, thats just in europe.
Cymbals...
how big is internal memory?
big. It's not a PC but a modelling, WAV and drum synth engine so you can do all three and also run soundworks for VST style kits which uses no internal space but if you like some of those, they load in...Best of all worlds...
@@tcellen2136 how many gigabyte is internal storage? 4gb 6gb ect, not trolling just interested my mimic has 120gb not saying its an issue but i would like to know before shelling out hard earned cash and alot to by the look of the cost, but high end i think worth it, however i like to be totally informed, i looked up manual no mention of internal storage size but says sd limited to 32gb
Welp, time to take out a personal loan.
yeah dumb subscription BS too -
I have had the TD 20 kit since 2009. I never was a fan of the snare sounds; they always sounded like a machine gun. I've been wanting to upgrade, but every module since the TD20 still had that lame snare sound. Well, I have a feeling that's all about to change. This kit sounds very natural so far. Time for a loan.
I would like to see inputs for a second hi-hat. Right now I have to use a second brain.
Both simple….and easy
Subscription is not a good look, Neither is not having a large touch screen. I'm team Alesis at this point even though I own a td20. Alesis seems to be the only one pushing advancements and I believe the only reason Roland has finally moved to vst style triggering.
Rolands just to expensive and under delivers... For example why not wireless triggering now that they own the tech... They hold things back just so they have something to add next time... Same thing with the digital versions of pads, they drip feed upgrades every generation.
Is Roland finally leaving the machine gun era behind? Are they finally using round robins? That's good.
Ralf!!
*****QUESTION TO ANYONE WHO CAN ANSWER *****
Hi everyone !!!
😁👍
I can't get it to do this on my digital snare on the TD27.
Close but no cigar anyways....lol
Thanks !
Have a great day !!!

It makes sense they have diffusounds now like Yamaha because Roland now owns DW drums so they can take full advantage of recording their actual acoustic drums rather than their usual crap synthetic sound samples...this should be interesting. Yamaha vs Roland vs Efnote
They look and sound great but in Australia they are just to expensive.
Subscription. Subscription. Subscription. Join the queue of organisations trying to bleed me dry. I'll be sticking with my TD30kv and second hand market on ebay. 8k? Are you kidding? As soon as someone cracks a slim VST, decent installable triggers and cracks latency, wraps them all (and can use all your older components), you're toast. I don't think its far away.
subscription.... NO. You are becoming as evil as all the car and tech companies..$$$$$ Also, still lacks dynamics, .. multi layers... as much as life>?? NO. same old poop
I have the Alesis strata prime it sounds better I think. I can get what so by using a monitor soun from out front
i cannot comprehend the point of making electronic drums with full size drum shells that are for aesthetic purposes only. if the shell contributes no sonic purpose, why bother?
Yes. I actually prefer the scaled down Tom’s with 4” shells and an 18” kick. Nice and compact but still look sharp.😊
Cause it looks cool! You can't put a price on cool...... well maybe you can and it's pretty steep.😆
Trade-off of portability aesthetics. There are many other pros/cons of electronic drums that still apply.
I'd personally prefer the hexagonal Simmons type drum pads. Never liked the acoustic drums look.
Frequent Roland shell player here! The benefit is in ‘feel’. There is shell resonance on impact which makes the playing experience much more realistic. Of course the ‘look’ is part of it, but the shell resonance makes a huge difference in feel compared to the smaller plastic shell pads, at least for me
....Midi 2?
@@dinguswingus3663 14bit hi-res midi was implemented in TD-50 V1 years ago. TD-27 has it too. Waiting for software developers to catch up.
It is kind of good that they captured the raw flaws that some times happens with E-Drums
3:10 Choke not picking well
Something that I don't quite like is how thin the hihat sounds
As much as I loved my kit, you just can't capture the response needed for a reggae drummer, sad to see the hi-hat has still not been developed further.
Calibration is step 1. Plays perfectly as long as they know what closed is via the calibration. They even recognize L&R hands and skin touch. Doesn’t get better and the new sound engine also allows it to recognize where on the Hats you are playing. Never been possible before
Reggae/Ska performance video will be released soon (Andertons)
@@michaelschack I'll be watching for that video for sure !!!
(Question and thoughts for your upcoming video)
I have the TD27 with the digital snare and I've been trying to get a good high harmonic rim shot like in reggae drumming on the snare....
Can you please talk specifically, IF, the V71 can do different RIM SHOTS ?
Like close to the rim so it let's off that high pitched harmonic SCREAMING ring !!!!!
I've been looking for any video for years now that showcases this.
I'm mostly interested in module to hardware integration that puts edrums in the same depth as acoustic drums.
That would be a great step forward if this is the case with the V71 and the new snare !!!
Also, is there a bell zone on the digital hi hat now ?
That again would be a great step forward.
If not, I'll probably just stick with my TD27...lol
Can't wait to see yer video !!!!
Have a great day !!!
👍😁👍
Ps. For that matter, can you please do a video on how to achieve "the best rim shots on any edrums ?"
There's none of these types of videos.
I'm not sure if it's even possible, but that would be awesome !!!
Maybe an explanation of what settings would help achieve this, even if it's closer to the acoustic feel of it.
Thanks !!!!
@@michaelschackI just subscribed to you so I don't miss it !!!
