"I'm used to losing things" hits so hard when you realize that as an Elf with an impossibly long lifespan- she is constantly losing things- whether it be possessions, status, recognition and most importantly people.
Speaking of voice actors, Himmel is voiced by the same guy who voices Bakugo and Genya (Characters who are angry 99% of the time) and here we have him voicing the most gentle and honorable guy to ever exist.
Himmel was fully aware that, being human, his lifespan will never measure up to Frieren's, so he contented himself with just showing his undying love to Frieren through subtlety, and ensuring the legacy of his existence through statues.
@@alessharu3634 he probably never wanted to tell frieren outright cuz he knew eventually she'll understand these feelings, and it'll probably hurt her a lot when she finally does years after he's gone. Despite it not exactly being subtle, it was all he could do for someone like frieren So he did litearlly everything BUT tell her directly so she can slowly come to understand what all these gestures and gifts really meant, and I think Frieren appreciates that a lot more
It might just be that Himmel just doesn't want to force a relationship with an elf, knowing his own lifespan is but a fleeting thing for Frieren. Like he's been doing all of that for Frieren without expecting anything from her. all those statues he make them made so she wouldn't be lonely in future. he knew the meaning of lotus but didn't tell her he knew he dies way before she does he didn't want her to feel grief after his death. He loved her. And that was enough for him. It's honestly admirable if you think about it that way.
There's a little detail about the ring and the bracelet. Fern's bracelet is a full bloom Mirror-Lotus, meaning their love will bloom between them. Frieren's ring is a bud Mirror-Lotus, meaning their love never bloomed.
Well to be fair, it was already mentioned that it's a species trait of elves to be lacking on the aspect of romance, resulting in lower reproductive rate.
Just for the record, I haven't read the manga, so this is speculation but the way she behaves makes it seem clear to me that she knew he loved her and she also loved him, but didn't want to allow feeling attached to a human due to the fear of eventual but inevitable loss. The way she looks at Himmel whenever he drops some flirt to end all flirts, the way she looked at him when he put a ring on her, the way she cried bitter tears at his funeral and the way she quickly told Fern "Himmel probably didn't know what the ring meant", even though her memory is clearly indicating otherwise are dead giveaways. She is just now coming to terms with her feelings and regret that she didn't instead allow herself to fall in love with Himmel.
@@peffiSC2source Dungeon Meshi and Frieren series have almost the same case of elven romance with other species [SPOILER]... And you will just realized that the clock tower symbolizes the only thing that stands between them was - - - TIME
You caught that Himmel was watching Stark and Fern apologize to eachother. Can't miss that Frieren was. But... You missed that Frieren was watching them WITH Himmel. Himmel had no second generation. In that moment, they were watching their friends' kids... Also, Frieren's ring is a lotus in bud. It never blossomed. Himmel knew how he felt, and how Frieren didn't. At least at the time.
Ep 14 is my favorite of the series. The growth of Fern and Stark, Sein finding his role, and Frieren and Himmel were all stellarly voiced, scored, and animated. I cried ugly, ugly tears. Also, Frieren handing out headpats stands in stark difference to ep1 when she said several times "Don't pat my head." So that makes the scene of her and Heiter stand out even more!

I totally forgot Heiter being a picky eater and flinging his food lol. Oh man I love the flashbacks. The bracelet gift is so freaking great and Fern getting mad when he mentioned about returning it. Relationship blossoms
Notice that Fern's bracelet the Lotus is in full bloom, showing that love has or will blossom fully into it's full form. Frieren's ring, however, is still a simple bud and hasn't bloomed yet, showing that Himmel's love will never fully come to fruition, even if it still exists and is still eternal.
I dont know if anybody here have mentioned it yet but..Did you know, the ring that Frieren has is a different design than Ferns , the lotus on her ring is un blossomed , meaning the love that never blossomed
I love the head pat twist. She always complained about it because she could not understand the meaning of the gesture. But after Himmel's death she wanted to learn more about humans. So, I always interpreted the scene to mean that she is showing Heiter that she has learned more about humans because of him. Almost like she's telling him not to worry about her anymore, because we know he worried as much about her as Himmel. I'm probably making it bigger than it is, but I love the idea of her returning the head pat :)
Just like the ring. Himmel's love was eternal for Frieren. Even after his death, he continued to love her. It was not a full bloom flower but I think Himmel knew it will eventually do one day.
I was crying too when Himmel give her the ring. This moment is so... how definitely to say that I don't know... amazing? I should to learn English better...
