I've seen a small few say before that Himmel seemed unrealistic and even pathetic (one of those bad Twitter takes) as he could have moved on while he was alive (which is very fair and normal for what people would do). But it's probably more like he couldn't love anyone else like he did Frieren, so he was more content to be single than just getting with someone else for the sake of it.

The scene Frieren look at the clock at fisrt as before Himmel donig the proposal thing, he was looking at the clock too. He was waiting the about ringing clock. Just like the wedding in the church.
And sad fact: The ring type is bud means the love never bloom, that's why Himmel was kind sad at first sight, but still gave her the ring romantically as he could.

@@tebasnineone Yeah, if you have Tasha's, they get Quickened Healing which allows them to use 2 martial arts dice to heal themselves for 1d6 + proficiency bonus as an Action. If you want to be able to heal others, you have to take the Way of Mercy as your Monastic Tradition at 3rd level.

I like the mirrored moment with first episode, when Fern wants to stop searching for the flower and Frieren want to search more, and when this happens, Frieren just accept that the ring is lost, and don't wanna make others search for it, and Fern is the one who say "We don't leave here until we find it".

Slight detail on the mirrored lotus design. The one Fern got was a fully blossomed mirrored lotus. While Frieren’s ring is unblossomed one. Perfectly signifying himmel and frieren relationship i think.
The music for THAT SCENE hits so hard. Really, the entire score for this series is phenomenal. Evan Call is a musical genius.
What hurts is going back to Episode 1 and seeing him smile as she walks away.
I love Frieren, the character. You understand why she's distant. 1,000 years of goodbyes.
It's not really subtle, it's quite literally there. But the fact that the clock tower is standing in between them (time) tells so much about their dynamic and what sets them apart. I could go on and say an essay how this whole story about the ring is impactful in a lot of ways, but, that one clock tower subject in particular holds strongly about them. I'm in tears ...
There's a reason Himmel wins every official manga popularity poll, he really is the best, hurts more and more after every scene with him
Himmel knew that love doesn't always need words.
Himmel gave her the ring in front of a clock tower. You can see it behind them. And at the episode beginning, Frieren stops to stare at that very same clock tower. Stark calls her to catch up. She doesn't mention it. But if you follow her line of sight, she was looking at that same tower.
And just after Himmel put the ring on frieren's finger, you can hear the bells from the church, like if it was a wedding.
Himmel is voiced by Nobuhiko Okamoto while in the Eng dub is Clifford Chapin which fun fact both voices Bakugo (My Hero Academia)
What makes all the beautiful scenes painful is the fact that they have been separated forever.
That Himmel had died, and everything was just a memory.

I did, and cried.
Himmel showed his love for Frieren even though he knew she wouldn't understand.
The old Frieren didn't know that this was a human engagement, and even if she had known, she probably wouldn't have felt anything.
Frieren now begins a journey to understanding humans.
Her thinking has changed.
I think that's why she kept looking for the ring.
I guess she's starting to understand Himmel's love little by little.

When Frieren said "im used to losing things" she was talking about more than just physical objects. This show does reading between the lines very well.
Frieren is slowly realizing through those flashbacks how much Himmel meant to her.
Himmel was always clear of he's emotion of love for her. That scene never misses.
So sad now knowing Himmel loved and Waited for her for 50 years just too see her one last time.

Loved the reaction, don´t know if you noticed but the flower of mirrored lotus in frieren's ring is closed, probably hinting at himmels eternal love that didn't bloomed. While fern's are blooming, probably hinting that she and stark will develop romantically!

Himmel's attitude and actions are emotions that we humans can easily understand.
Frieren recovers the magnificent foreshadowing drawn by Himmel through ``Now's Journey'', and Frieren gradually grows to understand Himmel's emotions (human emotions).
After having watched this show multiple times in sub and just recently in dub, I gotta say I genuinely appreciate the dialogue in dub a lot more. A lot of lines are just delivered better. For example in episode 13 instead of Frieren telling Sein "I'm talking about the present", in the dub version she says something like "Don't dwell on the past when you have the present". It just hits different just as many other lines do.
It's the way Himmel has ALWAYS known flowers, even the specialty flower of his home region YEARS after he left. He knew that she'd never return his feelings, he knew she'd likely never even love him back in the same way. But that didn't matter, because that ring would last far longer than he would, just like his eternal love for her.

He kinda knew that she will realize too late so he made that enfasis for the statues and making his mark on the world
Most elfs in this series are emotionally stunted but they feel just soooo much, lifetimes upon lifetimes of memories that they treasure but can never truly accept as precious due to this lack of emotionality
But Himmel knew that she cared, even if she didnt know herself
Part of his love for her is accepting her difficulty with knowing her feelings so he did the best thing he could manage to remain part of her life after his passing
Ahhhh the season 2 marriage scene gonna make everyone go crazy..
